I have purchased 2 VCs over the years. One never returned so when the second one never popped in April/May I gave up hope.

However, a few minutes ago I looked down at its old mulch and saw real growth. I snapped these:

Never give up on a banana until there is a hole in the ground(machete in hole) and then some!

Ditto. Mine have struggled through out cool summer last year, and barely hung on through the winter, but has finally pushed out a first new leaf this week.

My 3 VC (1 on loan from Chong) are doing pretty well, but spent the winter in the greenhouse. One threw a pup last year so I separated them and potted them up in the late fall. With the cool spring we've had, I am not very hopeful any of the 3 will be fruiting this year but I hope to at least get enough pups to pay off my "loan" with Chong! ;)

I would still like to try another one but after two that did not make it I just cant see spending the money on another one . To me 25.oo plus shipping is not worth it.

Greg, they might be able to survive most winters if they get some better size to them. Otherwise, I don't think I'd try it to over-winter a smaller plant outdoors in our climate.

Wow, I sure don't baby my plants and give them a fair amount of neglect and they did okay. Sure didn't grow as fast as I would have liked but we had quite a few summer nights below 60F last year. I'm hoping this year will be warmer. We're well below normal thus far but we're supposed to get toasty next week.

The main positive characteristic of Veinte Cohol is that it is supposed to be a fast grower and the fruit matures quickly, enabling it to be grown somewhat as an annual. Tony, glad to see that yours is picking up speed now that it's got more room. Mine are doing pretty well also now that we've finally warmed up. I noticed yesterday that one of the three plants (largest one on the left of the photo posted earlier) has a pup poking up.

This plant looks very similar to Kluai Kai. If mine keeps up this pace it should pup this year and maybe the CG will also

Plants seem to be taking off now. I noticed a pup coming up on a second plant today (back one on the right in my photo above). Most of the time we get down to the low 60s at nighttime but this morning we had a north wind blowing and it was quite warm. I fertilized them and watered the well yesterday.

I wish I would of had it potted in a larger pot a long time ago. The VC and both CG have put on more growth in a month than they did in a year in the small pots

I was gone for a week at scout summer camp and one of my VC plants now has 3 pups, another has 2, and another still is without any. We're around 100F so things are moving fast.
