I started flushing my Cycas today,

Does anyopne else do this?

I am hoping to get rid of the varigated fronds if it flushes enough new fronds.

Thanks!

Hi!

Nice cycad!

May I ask what you do to flush your cycad? I am not familiar with this procedure. My cycads may need it!

Thanks!

I flush mine from 1st of june with loads of water,

The thing you are doing by flushing with water is to get the new fronds. By flushing with loads of water your mimicing a torrential tropical storm. Better still if you have the use of a hose pipe, leave off the rose and give the cycad some hammer with the water. I do it every day for the whole month.

Remember to feed them as well, for that I am usiing good old Phostrogen. I used that on an allottment I used to have. Ask around, there are loads of Palm feeds on the market.

Happy flushing seathingie :ha::ha::ha:

My Cycas Revoluta flushes when it wants to and how it wants to. Actually most of the time mine flushes indoors which is bad because that means all the new fronds look terrible because they didnt grow in enough sunlight. I rarely water mine indoors and I pretty much treat it as badly as possible to keep it from flushing, but it never fails to flush indoors! At least this year it started flushing in March which was late enough for it to finish growing its fronds outside.
My Dioon Spinulosum is a lot better with its timing for flushes. I kept it in my unheated garage and it didnt like that too much. But when I took it outside and the weather started getting hot, it started growing some new fronds! Now it has a really healthy flush comming up and my dioon will look very nice for the first few weeks of Summer!

Good luck with your cycad! Dont forget to keep it in lots of warm sun! My cycads love sun and water (and plant food!)

There are loads of Info on Cycas flushes,

Some say varigated fronds are result of the sun...put them in dappled shade.

Mine was all green till I fleece wrapped it last winter, in spring it looks like the below.

Some say no need to flush with water as the Cycas will flush without it.

I got my first Cycas last year and flushed the water for a month and got four new fronds. Would the Cycas have flushed without me using water...who knows. I need new fronds as mine are so ugly lol

The best way is to do whats working for you. But you really need to take it outdoors during the summer. They are ok triple fleece wrapped to -13 under shelter.

Lets see who gets the new fronds by september.

I will do the water treatment...I started it last night, three bowlfuls.
