My family went to Fl. 3yrs ago and I found this great plant grown in Fl. that I could buy and take home with me so I could remember my trip. So I packed it in our van that was already crammed with clothes toys for the kids and playpen. Just barely fit but I had to have this plant. When I got it home it looked great after the 700 plus mile trip, but I was sure glad to have it back here in MO with me. Hard to believe that a week later I found that you could buy these almost anywhere here. Well it was well worth it because of that plant now I've gone crazy with tropical plants and have even went a little overboard to have a website that I check on everyday where others go to talk about Bananas!http://http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=1811&size=1 (http://www.bananas.org/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=1811)

I also brought a plant back from Florida, my first banana, purchased in the Keys in October '05. I ended up in a hotel for a week with no light for the plant, since I had bad car trouble. After a very long 1500 mile journey I was home but the plant couldn't deal with leaving sunny Florida and ending up in a dark room in NJ with only 3 hours sunlight. Coupled with my being a novice the plant promptly drowned, but sent up a pup on it's way out. This pup survived, and thrived this spring and summer.

Halfway through summer:

End of the summer, the plant on the right, 2x the size of the previous pic:

The plant now has one leaf, and is surviving by a window in the bedroom. It had its own pup which I separated this October at 1" of height, a gamble, and two days ago went from being an ugly brown mess which I thought was about dead, to a bright green pup which has grown 1" in one day! So even if the mother doesn't survive the winter, its pup will live on!

Wow, can I ever ramble...

Nice Yucca, BTW!

Joe great to know your brown mess turned out to be a green giant. I have a few brown messes right now that I'm still holding out hope for. Most I still have a psuedostem in hibernation for but would like to get a good jump with the pups I've separated from them. The biggest problem I've had is with musella lasiocarpa that pups ranged from 1 to 4 inches, some with as few as 2 roots but are still growing but don't look to well. Just thought I'd give them a shot. If they don't make it my one plant I'm sure will give me many pups in the summer to chose from. :moosenaner:
