Does anyone know of any easy-to-find bananas that can be grown in a pond? Most of the naners I read on are said to love water, but not sitting in it. A friend of mine claims he used to have one in his pond before someone took it, so I am going to get him one to replace it. He just doesn't know what kind and the nursery he got it from hasn't been in business for over 10 years.

I'd be careful planting it too close depending on the kind of pond/liner you have. I planted mine 10 feet away to be safe as I had some elephant ear type plants someone gave me and it sent roots and new plants up THRU the liner.
My banana grove has on occasion sent up pups that actually push unit patio pavers up and out of the way to get thru! Be careful!

I saw several varieties growing in water at a local nursery. I remember a cavendish-type, but there were others as well. BTW, cannas can do really well in water too.

I think you could plant bananas in a pond, but I wouldnt plant them deeply (maybe 2 inches deep the most). I also would make sure that its warm outside because I dont think that bananas can handle being wet and cold without rotting.
Good luck!

You can acclimate any banana to the water. I've done bordelon, and dwarf cav personally. All you do is pot them up real small in tight pots. Get them real root bound so they need a lot of water everyday, then you put them in the edge of the pond with rocks or bricks holding them up. That's been my method so far.
I was thinking about trying basjoo and seeing if I could leave it in the pond, but so far I haven't gotten there yet. Theoretically, it seems it could work because I've gotten cannas to overwinter there.
