View Full Version : A Place To Vent

Thought it would be helpful (and kind of fun) to have a place where someone can vent about any topic that peeves them, not limited to the garden. No profanity, of course, or religion or politics. And no replies are necessary, the object being that merely blowing off steam will help.
My first entry does have to do with my garden and mail order suppliers. I ordered a fancy and expensive yellow tree peony a few years ago. It came and was the puniest thing I'd ever seen. I called the company, who told me to plant it and see how it did. Needless to say, it did not survive the winter. Another call did bring an immediate offer of another plant, which I accepted. After 4 weeks of nothing, I called and was told that they had no stock left of my plant. They sent me another yellow tree peony, one cheaper and not as pretty as mine, and a credit for the difference. Last year it gave me one lousy looking flower, This year it gave me one beautiful flower. However, apparently the non-tree peony root stock has also given me 5 buds that look like they will be white. I'm really pissed, and will call to complain again. Now I have a really weird looking tree and bush peony combo, and not something a breeder would like to achieve.

well it kinda lost steam because religion and politics are the only topics people want to fuss about..
ok what about this. you have only general knowledge about a certain engine. all of the dealerships in your area have gone out of business. no one will touch your car because they're not familiar with it. you take your car to a person who is supposed to be a specialist and he charges $1,300..you agree because after all he is a specialist and you shouldn't try to fix it yourself because if you aren't familiar with it. you may get hung up on something. after the third day you start questioning whether he is really as good as he says he is. you then find out he probably knows as much as you do. he ends up taking a week and two days and talks about charging you extra to repair things that are clearly his mistakes..
after everything is said and done you find out he wasnt the only person besides yourself who could have done the job, in fact there was a shop across town who would have done it for $800.00 and their shop has ase certified mechanics. they would have guaranteed a 2 day turn around.:ha:

Why was he on the roof? :lurk:
He was being chased by a huge dog and the roofers had a ladder so he climbed up to get away from it. when the cops find out whos dog it was they are really going to be sorry they left there dog out running loose cuz they will have to pay for the hospital bills.

I agree with the commercials. Another thing I realized is that every channel I turn to seems to have commercials playing at the same time. I guess thats just a coincidence, but it still annoys me.
What annoys me even more is when professionals get plant names wrong. Mandevillas and allamandas arent the same plants and neither are bottle palms and spindle palms.
And Im tired of all this rain. April Showers bring may flowers, but my plants dont even have flowers anymore because the 4 inches or rain we got last week destroyed them all. And today felt like March.

I really need to vent...
Boy am I ever getting sick and tired of certain members who are hogging the picture bar...all day and everyday! It's discourteous to other members to not allow them to show their shots for awhile as well.
Some people who barely post pics ever, have their pictures rudely shuffled off within the hour (if they're lucky), only to be replaced by pics we see constantly! It's like picture diarrhea or something! I wish it would stop and that people could be more polite and thoughtful of others.
I know I like to load a lot of shots too, but it's only fair to let other people have a turn as well. Do onto others as you would have them do onto you. ;)
There's a way to turn off the setting, so that a person can continue to load their shots into their album, but not display them on the bar. This would be an excellent idea for some members.
Thank you.

Im not use to doing this much, its like im complaining but I think this is so funny. I have a gardener that mows my lawns. They come on Mondays. I dont have much in the front of my house. Four queen palms and a few elephant ears. My grass usally gets real green fast I hate to brag but its actually greener than anyones on the street. What I do have in the front looks nice.Any way the people across the street from me cut there lawn like a golf course they started getting there lawn guy to come on Mondays too now. They cant stand my lawn looking so good ! :08: She noticed my lawn was getting greener than theres I saw her out there starring at my lawn she ran in and got somthing and started spreading it all over her grass. LOL. They act like there trying to get the best lawn award. She always ask me what do you do to make your lawn look so good. I just smile. My brother says that im Mister green thumb ! :lurk: When there trees start going dormant and the leaves start to fall they go out with long polls and start trying to make the leaves fall before they fall on there own its so funny. I guess I should be happy they do take care of there place. :lurk: Any way I guess I can look at it as entertainment !

It pushes other peoples post down to the bottom. Why not give other people who don't post much a chance. It would be nice if there was some way to stop some people from posting so much, and being rude, when someone with a legitimate

I just noticed this forum doesnt have a fights section. =D i had a special project one time and got stuck in a fights thread with another kid for 2 days! My project was late and the fights mod wouldnt even let us out when we agreed not to fight anymore. She said we had to have a positive solution. grrrrrrr!
This time wasnt as bad but i didnt get to go anywhere and had to stay home and just play video games. I dont get that i have to stay home all day!
But mom got me another banana tree to grow so that really helped. =D
Btw, sorry i had to remove some "thanks" but it wouldnt be right to thank posts if members are having issues with each other. Its not polite not to thank people for participating, but this time i think it is.

This is a great place to be, I am thankful to banana.org for the space they allow us. Here we are not charged, are not limited on size.
Stop moaning, life is too short.
Peace.

I usually view the "new posts" when I access the site, that way if anyone has made a new post I'll see it regardless of post after post after post after post being made.
Regarding 'hogging' the picture bar, I usually upload the pics to my gallery where they can be viewed if desired. I really don't need them to be in the picture bar, but don't know how to avoid it. If I want them in a specific thread, I will put them there. I would prefer my photos don't show up in the picture bar at all, and if anyone wants to see 'em, go to my gallery.
(in other words... I don't see what you folks are complaining about :nanadrink: can't we all just get along?)

The intent of my post was not to complain about someone who post to much. That's not my business is it. That's the job of the moderators .My suggestion to anyone who has a complaint, is to contact a moderator not someone who thinks they are.

My Basjoo flowere @ four (4) feet tall.
My neighbor still mows part of my yard, and does so with the lowest setting so it looks as scraped up as his yard.
I never have time to visit the org because of work and my new homestead.
Some arse from the electric company turned his truck around in two rows of my spaghetti squash.
My wife bought ONE (1) spaghetti squash, and realized after getting home with it that the crazy thing cost $10.00 !!! This is why I saved the seeds and planted them all over the place.
My compost won't hold water anymore.
I fell asleep on the couch today, and slept til' after 7:00, so I missed most of my Saturday.
There are too many 'New Post' for me to even consider looking at, so I chose one, and leave the rest to pile up.
My camera is kaput, so I can neither share the cool things going on in my new place, nor super rotate the pics for HBL ;)
Tiny beetles have invaded my tomatoes.
I have some things to vent about current global relationships, but Salty said not to.
Got a dozen Coronation sussex eggs from a friend, and only one hatched.
The weather is so hot, I fear that my Jericho, Grand rapids , Nevada, and Victoria lettuces will bolt before they make it to the hydro.
It rained on the wood I salvaged, and warped some of it. Meanwhile, we are still in a drought. A drought with flooding. :P
I dug up another batch of P. Lutea for Frank (Bigdog) and they fizzled before I could get them in a box.
Wow, nice thread, Howard! I could do this all night.

Bob... We overwintered in our workshop for the first time and after a winter all wrapped up in a plastic tarp and swimming pool solar blanket we opened it all up and found mush. Sooo disapointing but this winter we'll try again in the basement of the old farm house on the property with no plastic covering and see if that works. This photo is last fall of some of them, when we were still full of hope and happiness.

Got my chainsaw stuck in a tree. It's still there, like Excalibur.
Spent an hour trying to position my greenhouse frame over my NFT tables, only to decide to use boards with the posts that are already holding it up.
Last week I tried to burn the branches, cardboard, and what-not in my compost area. The wind picked up, and I decided to put it out. I sprayed it for 30 minutes. There was no more steam, no more smoke, nothing but a big ol' mud hole. TWO days later, it caught up and burned half my pool area . I lost a lot of grass, all the velutinas, Orinoco, and palms were toasted. My wife called the fire dept, and they used my garden hose to put it out.

I agree, spaghetti squash is pretty expensive (and pretty hard to open!). I also planted seeds everywhere. Im not very good with growing edible plants (I think I used to get an average of 10 tomatoes a year before I just gave up trying to care for such ugly plants). Squash is a bit nicer looking and its in an area that needed a ground cover plant, so hopefully it will prove to be an ornamental and an edible!
And Im really hoping for fruit from one of my banans this summer. I was originally thinking my Ice cream banana might get it done, but its been 2 days of 85F heat and the newest leaf is just starting to emerge. My saba and one of my basjoos are VERY competative. I just gave then both plant food today. They are working on one leaf a week! By Late June I might already have 6 foot tall plants (they are about 4 feet tall now).
Not really much venting, just a lot of hopes for the yard.

Fortunately it looks like we will be getting that kind of weather next week (and it should probably stay that way for the rest of the Summer).

My brugmansia is getting eat up! I think its a cut worm, or some other type of catepillar. I checked everywhere, but no bugs. But every morning there is more and more damage. This is my first year growing Brugmansia and I just want some blooms! That wont happen if this bug keeps eating my plant. It it doing so well too. It makes me so angry :(
Good news is that my bananas got a ton of growth on them today with this heat! I hope I get some full plants soon but I dont have a ton of patience.

Sometimes folks don't have anything serious to complain about so they just complain about trivial things. And here I'm doing it myself.
We've got children and their families in Nicaragua that we sponsor and what has surprised me on our visits is that these kids that are going without food or decent shelter don't complain but are always smiling.

I also sponsor a child too...in Mombasa. She sends me pictures of herself...smiling as well. This is a girl whose father is deceased and who has been taken away from her mother because she is too poor to look after her anymore. Her only sibling is dying. Yet she smiles and writes me letters and draws pictures for me! It just breaks my heart. :(
What have we got to complain about? Absolutely nothing.

I just noticed that there isnt a "no thanks" button at this forum.
If peeps didnt complain there wouldnt be any organizations helping those people. Then kids that got beaten by their parents wouldnt get any help and nobody would complain that they get beaten. Complaining changes everything and makes the world better.
Not complaining is not caring.
No way shes happy that shes hungry and peeps are dying. /vent

Got my chainsaw stuck in a tree. It's still there, like Excalibur
I stopped using my chain saw when I have to climb a ladder to cut branches
Instead I use my sawzall, if the blade gets stuck I flip the lever, leave the stuck blade in the tree...pop a new blade in & keep cutting
I do have 2 small electric chain saws that I ended up with, so use those sometimes now

I have a few things to rant about. I agree with Yug that politics and stuff like that should be left out of this.
The weather lately has been unbearable....hotter than hell! High of 111 degrees today! It's so hot that when I go to get into my car after it's been sitting in the sun, the steering wheel is so hot it's hard to touch! And when I first get in, it feels like I'm in a kiln...:2708:
I'm also sick of crazy drivers. They always tailgate me when I'm going the speed limit, and then zoom around me at like 10 miles an hour faster. I wish there were more cops around to bust these people for speeding.
Although, on a positive note, I've been taking care of my grandpa's garden because he's out of town in New York, and the figs are just starting to come in. Loads of them! And to think this is just beginning of the annual fig madness. :ha:

The only thing I really have to rant about is I ordered a sofa.. They said it would take 10 weeks to get it; now I find out its 12 weeks time until it leaves the factory.. I know one thing it better be comfortable when it shows up in 6 weeks or so.. lol :^)

my rant--we've finally started getting some rain here on and off, but it's been so dry. I go to farmers market and people are like, why don't you have bushels of tomatoes to sell like last year, why isn't the corn filled out all the way to the tip-I don't want that, these eggplants are soft (never mind that they were picked 15 minutes before I left the house). My electric bill is up $75 this month from all the watering we've been doing, my eggplants have so many spider mites, even with spraying my soap/oil mix on them, and the tomatoes are just limping along even with drip irrigation. Oh and this week we finally got some rain, we got 1.7" in one day and every tomato on my plants split, even a lot of the green ones. So I only have like 20 lbs to sell off 300 plants. It's so fun being a farmer!

OK this isn't exactly a vent but just some crap I have to get off my chest. Last month Steve was kind to hook me up w/ some Ice Creams and Caligolds and I was edging the 2nd caligold when I discover this lady in my backyard, red convertible in my driveway, and one huge luggage rack under her shirt.. Some Doctor did some fine work for I (Me being a Higher educated neanderthal) had trouble looking her in the eye. I figured my backyard, I'm sweaty and tired I deserve a good peek, yah know.. So back to the reason she was there.. She goes I see you working on your yard, and I know how it was before and how its looking alot better again I'd like you to do my back yard, since I know you know what your doing. So I asked her about her landscaping, and she told me what it cost her over the past year, and said they just didn't get the look she wanted. I said to bad you can't get your money back, since they cost more than what the good Doctor put in front of her. So in the end I asked a bunch of questions and got the dumbfounded look from a High school principal. So I said I'd take it under consideration in the end, but thought myself if I was student of hers I'd be in so much trouble..lol getting sent to her office.. lmao All those poor boys.. but anyway the nerve of that woman, she must have I want syndrome... enough is never enough.. Kinda like us and banana's :^)

Horrible day. I watched the smoke drifting up the Hudson River from my house's front porch.
My motorcycle was nearly stuck by a STOP sign running Prius.
When confronted @ the next light the driver replied that I should drive a car if I wanted to be safe.
HA!
I told her the Prius was gonna get smashed by one of those big trucks if she kept running through intersections.
Everyone now threatens to call the POLICE over the slightest variance from their ideal world view.
I suggested she consume a lethal dose of fecal matter, then closed my visor.

As many of you saw my post,I should have had a HF GH by now. But have to wait till a later date, and hope that they have them on sale then. SOO now I have to use a storage closet connected to the back of the house. Hoping my Siam's and other nanner pups will be okay. A few hanging baskets and others. Plan is to use a small thermo control heater,a strip light with two 20watt or more grow lights. Running for who knows how many hrs?? I just want them to stay alive, not really worried about killer growth. Considering where I live on the coast and if we have a normal winter then the heater wouldn't run much or be needed at all. As long as we have a normal winter. Worried about bringing some inside as my kids ir the cats might mess with them. Makes me wish I could be one of those people that could go out and buy anything and not worry.

Guy pulled up next to her & planted his boot into her door, then slammed his fist against her window

I can't say I have anything to complain about. I'm a little disappointed that the "Texas Star" I've been growing for a few years finally flowered and turned out to be a basjoo, but it's still a pretty plant and a pretty flower. Haven't decided if I'll get rid of the mat or not. I've got lots to be happy about. Michael, my son, is advancing in Boy Scouts well and will soon make Eagle. He went through his Order of the Arrow ordeal this weekend and I finally dusted off my OA sash from 41-42 years ago and went to the ordeal and advanced to the Brotherhood honors level so it was a fun father/son weekend. Hope you all get through whatever distresses you quickly.

Oh boy....here we go.....
In light of the recent happenings with the pop music industry's token prick, Justin Bieber, I think now is the right time for me to voice my opinion on the state of music today. For those of you who haven't heard, Bieber caused $20k damage by egging his neighbors' house, an act of vandalism that will (hopefully) land him in jail. Now, let's take a look at what exactly happened with Justin Bieber. The music industry found this kid from Canada who could play a few instruments, sing, and write a few songs. They took him in and made him into a superstar. They cultivated him into a teenage girl's dream boy. They hired writers and producers to “help” him make music, and he became the person who performed music written under his name, and in the process, also a spoiled brat. Now, here's the thing. He's not the only pop music legend that has followed this formula. Take a look at Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears, Ke$ha, and a majority of other big name music acts. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying all mainstream and pop music is bad, nor are all of these people bad people. Some of them are genuinely talented and genuinely good and wholesome people, but others are essentially just performing artists, and nothing more. Some are even complete and utter jerks, like our friend Bieber. But the bottom line is that they are the ones who deploy mass-produced “music” to the populace that is created by the industry simply to generate profit.
And therein lies the problem. Much of mainstream music today is intended only to satisfy the masses. Songs are designed specifically to be catchy and relatable to the immediate interests of a majority of people in society. And when music is relatable and catchy, people listen to it. Bottom line. The people who produce, perform, and distribute this music resemble a marketing team rather than a group of actual musicians. This is not what music is all about, is it?
So then, what is music all about? Well, let's look at where it came from and what it's supposed to do for us. Music has been around perhaps longer than civilization itself, and has been used to experience emotions not attainable otherwise, to enhance spirituality, to connect with other human beings on a level that is simply not possible by any other means, and most of all, make us happy. Those who create it pour their hearts and souls into as well as their talent and skills. So then, what is “real” music? It's music that fits that definition; music that is created by people who are talented at what they do, and who want to share their emotions and experience with others through organized sound. And I don't care what genre it is. It could be the underground gangster rap that a teenager in Compton listens to that tells a story about hardships and experiences that he can relate to. Or the emotionally charged death metal that your high school's resident metal head pumps into his ears through his iPod in between class periods. Or the loud, dynamic, big room house music that thousands of people listen to and move their bodies to at electronic dance music festivals. And yes, it could be one of those rare pop music hits that was written, recorded, and performed by a truly talented and successful musician. It doesn't really matter in the end. Because all of this real music is created by people who want to share some aspect of their life experience with others. Music is not supposed to be about commercialization and feeding the masses. It's not supposed to be created by a specially commissioned team and mass marketed to generate profits for big name record companies. It's supposed to be about human beings communicating their hopes, dreams, fears, wishes, and emotions through a universal language that we can all understand. And that language is music.
I rest my case. End of rant.
