Earlier, my 7 year old daughter and I went looking for a Mother's Day present for my wife and my mom. We went to the local garden store to see what they may have for presents (actually, I was checking it out to see if they had something I might want :08:).
They had some fairly healthy looking M. Basjoo that I spied across the aisle, so I made my way over because I wanted some Basjoo to plant in the ground. They were about 2' tall so I was getting pretty excited. Then I looked at their price tag. They wanted 39.99 for one. Thought I was gonna choke. Gonna have to look somewhere else for some Bajoo... Anyone have any ideas?

not worth it, they are basjoo's ! maybe it it were a praying hands or something edible, I would never pay that much. Keepp looking for a lower price there are lots of places you can get one, have you checked online? they can be bought for like $10 or less online. they would be tc too but grow fast and usually they ship plants that are something like 8-10 inches tall. Hope you find something good.

This one actually had a tag. Most of the other plants are a crap shoot unless you really know what you're looking for. It said M. Bajoo, but didn't have any other tags. I'm going to bite the bullet and buy from an online source. Thanks for the reply!

I saw some in nurseries around central Pennsylvania for $8.99-$14.99 this weekend. They are usually labeled Japanese Fiber Banana.
Last year, I bought a few locally for around $20 each but they were big and healthy. I also bought a few TC Basjoos online. They arrived really small with tiny root systems but if given some TLC, they'll turn out just fine.

Japanese Fiber Banana? I never thought about looking for a name other than Basjoo. We have a huge flea market, locally, on Memorial Day. The Amish and Mennonite people come and bring their produce and plants to sell. I'm going to check them out and see what they have, because last year my wife picked up several very nice looking Mandevilla.
I think I am going to stay away from the TC plants. From the stories that I've heard, it seems like they are pretty sensitive. With their sensitivity and our unpredictable weather, I would probably be better off buying a plant that has some growth on it.

I found some at santarosagardens.com and they were only 9.99. Don't know if they have any left, but you can get some good deals if you sign up for their newsletter.

I actually had their page bookmarked, but had never gone back to check it out. I'm going to check it now, though. Thanks for the recommendation.
