Hello all,

I recently caught the banana bug (and I'm not talking about Fusarium oxysporum). I have purchased two very young plants, a Siam Ruby and Red Abyssinian (obviously, I enjoy the more flamboyant varieties). They will be grown indoors exclusively due to high winds in my area with relatively low ambient lighting. At night they are currently growing under two 96 watt 6700K CF bulbs, remaining from my aquarium keeping days. I'm looking into getting either T5HO or MH lighting for the kids when they are larger; I have read a few quite entertaining and informative threads on this topic, but still have research to perform. :03: I'm not exactly optimistic regarding my chances to successfully keep banana plants indoors, but it certainly sounds like some of y'all are veterans and might be able to provide advice!

On to the less important details: I'm a mid 30's married male living in Northern California. I work as a resident in San Francisco. Two dogs, two geckos, one cat, and an entourage of plants keep my wife and me company. We look forward to getting to know you all and your bananas!

Best,

Robin Price and the family

You have very good taste in names! Does your son assist with the banana cultivation?

Haha, I remember those days. Well, if your Robin is anything like me, his interest in illicit growing things may blossom into a love of all growing things. :)

Well he isn't growing anything right now, but if he were to.. it would not be bananas at this point..lol Maybe he'll grow a sense of responsibility and some work ethics? :P hahaha

Let us hope so, Miss! My parents certainly shared your concerns during my teenage years... Not their fondest memories. How old is he?

I giggle to myself again, Miss. I certainly support a laissez faire approach to life while going with the flow (this is challenging for me), but I agree that having some direction to that flow is beneficial. I hope you two can find a place of balance. :)

Thanks, Kat. I'm in diagnostic radiology. Are you in the medical field?

Thank you for the colorful welcome, Sherry!

Dentate, welcome to the group and have fun there in SF area with your naner kids! Your region is where I was born and raised up, but I never got the banana bug until I traveled halfway around the world to here where I am now.

Congratulations, Kat. That is quite an accomplishment! I'm a touch confused by the masters (I am not very knowledgeable about the mechanics of the process for RNs)... Are you starting the masters program imminently, hence only one week off? If so, how will the decision process work between CRNA and ARNP? If you are not starting the masters, what classes are you taking after graduation?

Thank you very much for the welcome, Chas! How old were you upon departing the SF Bay Area? What took you to the Philippines?
