Today is the first sign of life from my in ground bananas, and to my surprise it is the Saba!. My zone 8 area is about 3 to 4 weeks later than inland zone 7 because I am on a island with cold water around me,but I do get a extra month of late season growing, hopefully all the others will come up soon. This Saba is also the earliest I have ever had a banana come up in the spring, normally I dont see any growth until about the fourth week of april.

Great news. Maybe my saba still has hope. I have not seen any growth yet here in zone 9 on my saba.

I guess the ocean water around Nags Head is relatively cool, but it is warm compared to U.S. Pacific coast temperatures.

Ya richard our water is similar or maybe a little warmer, we are just now having nights at 50 or above, Its funny here in the spring, and summer it is always about ten degrees cooler than just a few miles inland and those guys always get there bananas before us, so I was guessing it had something to do all this water.

Not near you, but this is what two of my unprotected Sabas look like.
