View Full Version : What's Growing on your Compost Pile?

Every now & then something odd, unusual or interesting escapes the compost pile & starts growing.
While getting ready to dump some of last year's pots out & reprocess the dirt & plant material I noticed a couple oddities in the leftovers from an n. tabacum plant, a little oak & a hops vine.
The local "bushy tail rats" are no doubt to blame for the oak but the hops are a head scratcher.
So... what does everybody else have going on their compostables?

i havent started my compost yet.. i have a huge pile..prob 50 bags of shredded leaves from last fall.. have to go get some straw.. and rabbit
manure..then the fun begins.. :08:
i get mushrooms,i stir mine pretty good..so the weeds from the straw get
cooked pretty good.. but always interesting what sprouts from that
golden stuff...

I've never had much grow in my compost piles
I re-use dirt/potting soil - so that usually does not go into the compost

I tend to get papaya plants, because we eat a lot of papaya and discard the seeds...

Oysters! I haven't seen any fruit bodies this year, but there is a lot of mycelium still breaking the stuff down.
