Anyone else growing Ramps (Allium tricoccum (http://www.ars-grin.gov/cgi-bin/npgs/html/taxon.pl?101616)), the north american wild leek?

Here's a few starts in a 4-inch pot:

I have seeds, just getting ready to stratify them. A couple at the farmers market asked if I'd try growing them some starts. Any tips?

I found this article helpful: Cultivating Ramps (http://www.hort.purdue.edu/newcrop/ncnu02/v5-449.html).

I'm feeding them a formula usually sold for hydroponics: 15-5-15 "Cal-Mag", plus a sulfur compound to lower the pH.

Very nice, worth a try. Another Allium worth growing is Allium Cepa var.
viviparum. It produces little onions on top of the plant. These onions
are about half an inch and you can eat or propagate them. Also known
as "three onion" or "Egyptian onion." It is very hardy and one of the first
plants that grows in spring.
In fact, any part of the plant is edible.
