Just uncovered my sikkimensis last evening. Looks like the psuedostems made it. This plant has been in the ground for 5 years now.

lwabirds what zone are you in? I tried overwinterign one 10 years ago but it didn't make it. I was thinking of trying again but with a different way of covering it.

I'm in zone 6. Southernn Ohio. I have 3 different plantings in the yard. All come back each year. It's tough to find the plants out there. Apparently they don't tissue culture easily.

mine looked great when I uncovered it, solid stem and all, but not growing and water comes thru the top in the middle when lightly squeezed....but still solid at the bottom, first year plant and only had half of growing season last year....fingers crossed. Yours looks great!

Mine always look great when they are first uncovered, but the bigger pseudostems always have the centers rot out. The pups survive and grow quickly to a point, then pup out themselves.

I used a few black bags of straw. All three of my plantings of sikkimensis psuedostems made it. Hopefully I'll get one to flower this year. I"ve never had a sikkimensis flower yet.

I have been looking for sikkimensis all winter. All I can find is seeds. Mine have not sprouted or rotted. The directions said up to a year to sprout. So I am hoping to find a pup.

From what I have read in this group it takes years for a seed to get any size.

If you get a pup to share or sell I am interested.

The sikkimensis seeds that are out there aren't generally sikkimensis. Just because a seed comes from a sikkimensis fruit doesn't mean they will produce plants like the parent plant. You have to take into accounct where the pollen came from. Pollen from a different species will produce a hybrid plant.

I should dig up some sikkimensis pups this summer. Anyone interested in buying some?

I think you could say that about every open pollinated plant in the world.

Sikkimensis comes from a region where sikkimensis predominates, I think you can be as sure as you can be that the seeds you get are Sikkimensis.

Where did you get your Sikkimenis plant from? Was it dug up in India and flown to the US?

We expect to finish our vacation in Fremont Ohio the last week of June. We usually do not go south of I-70 on the way home but we could is we could get a banana plant.

we are 45 miles south of I-70 and should have plenty of pups to give away by then.

I have sikkimensis available now. They're on my webstore and growing fast. I ship, too. Or you can road trip to Indiana and get a truck load of plants. We only have 3 greenhouses crammed full of everything right now. It's almost spring, but not quite here yet, In two weeks, it'll be crazy here.
