I saw something like that at the UCR botanic gardens a couple days ago. I'm going back next week, I'll see if I can find it again.

Thanks. I wonder if it really does get 4-6 feet tall. I was thinking about adding it to my plan for my lawn free front yard...but 6 feet would be too big.

Yes, Echium candicans does get 4-6' tall. There's one in my neighborhood that is nearly 5'. I had thought about putting one along our curb, but it gets too big. Bummer. Very pretty and the bees seem to love it. Now back to bananas...

I've grown Pride of Madeira and want to get it again. My last one lasted about five years and was probably about four feet tall but I've seen larger ones in Marin County (north of San Francisco). In that area it has become naturalized and is considered invasive. Besides it's beauty, I like it especially since my father's parents immigrated from Madeira. It's best if it isn't watered too much to avoid root rot. I planted mine on a mound and it rarely got water besides from winter/spring rains. When my uncle died two years ago we bought my aunt a Pride of Madeira for the funeral and then I planted it in her front yard. My wife was very thoughtful in picking that up but should have got one for me also! :)
Tony, besides Praying Hands, what are the varieties of bananas you have photos of? Maybe you can edit your first post and put the name under each photo. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Tony
Did your Double Mahoi produce a double this year? What do the fruit taste like, are they similar to a Dwarf Cavendish? How many fruit per bunch, was it about 90 you had last year? I am thinking of recommending this to some local growers as a commercial plant, is it fast to produce the fruit?
Sorry for all the questions but you had several threads pop up in my Mahoi search so I figure you are a good person to ask.
Thanks
James

The fruit never matured and I removed all the large p-stems for lack of room.Only have 1 small pup left. I think Dwarf Namwah would be a better choice, more hardy

Thanks for the reply. Is that because winter arrived? What is your average temp? I am in Bermuda and we have an average winter temp of 68F so may be it would be fine. I did also look at the Dwarf Namwah but the concept of the double bunch is pretty cool.
