This thread will be a spot for members to discuss & arrange seed trades with other members. :D

You can list the seeds you want and also the seeds you have to offer. Frankly, I have too many to list, so I'll just start with my most recent.

Here are some new seeds I got yesterday that some folks could be interested in. I thought I'd show pictures...

I always want to participate in all the threads that I can, and do have a ton of seeds. At this very moment I have a lap kitty and cannot disturb the QUEEN to get new pictures. I promise I will get some new pictures to post here soon, but will post these that I have already taken just to get started.

http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n580/JaNan16/20110310006.jpg

A lot of my seeds aren't in pretty packs though. They are some I have gathered and saved from my own plants or gotten more than I can use from prior trades.

So, to be accurate and not rely on my swiss cheese memory, I will have to sit down on the floor with my big seed bin and my computer to type in the varieties.

This will be a fun thread! Thanks Sherry!

JaNan...I want some of those peppers, but just pick me out the seeds that look like they came from a white variety. :ha:

I'm hoping this thread might bring a lot of seed traders together. ;)

I'll show a few more shots of some stuff I have available shortly...

How do you grow those water lotus?

The Hollyberry Lady
03-20-2011, 12:09 AM
Real easily, Dean! ;)

You just file the seeds a bit to allow moisture inside and then you put it in a dish of water. It'll sprout within 3 days if things are warm.

The plant can be grown in a container pond like I did one season. I even had minnows in the container to eliminate the algae & mesquito larvae. Here was mine so you can see if it's something you'd be interested in growing. It was still young in this shot but just so you can get an idea...

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/2nd%20album/515.jpg

You bury the sprouted seedling about an inch below the soil in the container.

Half barrels are ideal to grow these plants in. If you'd like, I can send ya a seed or two. :D

:waving: Hi Seed traders!

Sherry those Bells of Ireland are stunning! My niece used them in her wedding bouquet and I got to take some home with me to put in vases. I loved them. Can you tell me what zones are they rated for? And have you eve grown them yourself? Difficulty? I like that Dark Opal basil too! It looks black it is so dark!

Bob3 I would like to try some loquat seeds if there is anything I have you might be interested in.

Dean is that pequin pepper that is native to Texas and can just stay out year round as a perennial bush? If so I would like to try them. Sherry are those the same as the Texas bird or something like that - that you have? I think we were talking about it in the hot pepper thread one evening.

Penny, I need you to PM your mailing address for your Hot Marble Pepper seeds if you still want some and Blake I will be mailing your seeds tomorrow. I think that will have me caught up then.

I can surely send you some of the dark opal basil seeds too JaNan, but I've grown it and it's a dark purple with bronze in it sometimes too. It's my mom's favorite. ;)

Yes JaNan, I wondered the same thing about Dean's bird peppers...if they were the same as the Texas Bird ones I have...which never came up for me, by the way. Not one! :( I got the seeds from someone else so maybe they were too old...not sure. Still waiting but it's been three weeks already.

Ok let me get the seed packet for the Bells of Ireland ad I'll be back...

Yes, those are the native peppers/ bird peppers that survive most winters outdoors. My hands were very hot w/ the oil after removing the fruit pod.

I'll PM you about where you can get some.

Ok about the Bells of Ireland...

It's an heirloom favorite annual and it's excellent for drying. It grows 2 feet and blooms in summer in full sun. It reaches 2 feet tall.

I've never grown them before and the seed packet says nothing about appropriate zones, so you might have to google some info, JaNan.

This is one of the first sweet pepper varieties I ever grew when I was just a new gardener, called "Topepo Rosso". The plants are small, short and compact, producing masses of round golfball size fruits that ripen red. An unbelievably sweet type...

Ok, I've got some of these available, although limited supply at present...

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/2nd%20album/DSC03668.jpg

They're a compact everbearing variety, that are suggested for a hanging basket. They really should be sown in late winter although they bear fruit all season.

Even though it says they're new, they're just "Temptation" improved with less runners so now they call them "Patio Temptation". It's the same thing though and I've grown this type many times before...the berries are big and delicious! :D

If anyone's interested in these, please only expect a few seeds to get you started, and then you can collect more from your growings. Unfortunately I don't have a huge quantity but do have some to share.

It's called "Table" tomato and it grows less than a foot tall. Perfect for pots and doesn't need a lot of sunshine either. It dislikes too much fertilizer and requires staking. An excellent variety for an indoor fruit producing houseplant.

Soon again, I'll have a whole whack of seeds for it. :D

The Chinese / Garlic Chives (Allium tuberosum) are starting to come into seed. There are just a few right now but by the middle of May there should be a good supply.

*UPDATE* Just started shaking pods, got a pile of seed here now so pipe up if ya need any!

We have some sets (little bulbs) available currently.

Garlic chives - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garlic_chives)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/8e/Cut_Garlic_Chives.jpg/800px-Cut_Garlic_Chives.jpg

In warmer climes the stuff can spread profusely but with just a modest amount of attention they can be kept to their own little (or large) bed.

We have just a tiny little patch but luckily the neighbor has a back yard full of them! :08:

Were your bluebonnets from me Sherry? I thought I sent you some but I can't remember.

Those tumbling trailing tomatoes are like those of mine. I have the Red, the Gold, and the Tiger. They are delicious and I think small enough to grow in the AG because they naturally hang over the edge. Mine are in hanging baskets.

That pepper mixture sure is pretty! You'll be able to take pictures like that of all your pepper bounty soon, Sherry!

I love lavender. I use lavender scented laundry detergent and fabric softener sheets and have a linen spray that is lavender scented. It is supposed to make you sleep better and I need all the help I can get! :) I may have to get some seeds and try them potted!!!

Nelumbo nucifera, sacred water lotus

INDOOR OR EXOTIC:
Solanum melongena var. golden eggs egg plant

I also can get cuttings from Christmas cactus, hedera helix 'glacier' and 'patricia' or other plants.

And I can get seeds from other places to ;) mainly a local seed store or online if its something special.

I like everything :D. But I am mainly a houseplant person. And I love cacti and succulents most of all. So anything small, exotic, unusual, rare, or just what ever you have I will probably be interested in.

Banana wise, I would need anything very very very VERY small. My truly tiny I used to have was pushing my space limit I had for it.

It is kind of hard to find any useful info online about the type of banana it was. But it was very very small, I think they only get about 1-2 foot tall and have a spread of a couple feet or something like that. It is the ideal indoor banana! :D Atleast for me anyways.

I have found it to be compared with 'little prince' a lot if that helps.

O ya, and your stuff you sent me is doing well ShearMe :) The sedums are taking off like they are going crazy or something.

Goodies we have up for adoption:

SEEDS: (refrigerated)
Eriobotrya Japonica (Loquat)
Datura Wrightii
Nicotiana Rustica
Nicotiana Tabacum (also fresh n. tabacum currently in blossom)

And:
Loquat seedlings from 4" to 24" tall.
Allium Tuberosum (Garlic Chives) some seed, but mainly bulbs/plants. (they grow like weeds here)

New stuff:
Passion Flower seed (Passiflora amethyst)
Datura:
D. wrightii (solid white flowers)
D. wrightii (lavender rimmed blossom)
and solid lavender.

The N. rustica have developed into a HUGE strain, double the "normal" height and at least 6x-8x the leaf area.
The N. tabacum are pushing 12' tall, and are going into their 4th year!!! (a hummingbird favorite)

also: 2 varieties of papaya, Sunrise & Sunset.

My seed catalogues always come early each year...right after Christmas. Even the seed companies know how addicted I am. :ha: I also like to place my orders early so I don't hear the old "sorry, we're out of stock" routine.

It's normal for me to go a little crazy each year with seed orders but this list is ridiculously long. The trouble is though...I want them all! :goteam:

Do you have unlimited room or something! :ha::ha::ha:

Don't forget that you are getting stuff from me also ;) Once it warms up I was going to order you stuff form either
Seeds from Whatcom Seed Company - Catalog of Rare, Exotic, Unusual Garden Seeds (http://www.seedrack.com)
or
J. L. Hudson, Seedsman (http://www.jlhudsonseeds.net/index.htm)

That is quite a list you have there.... :ha:

Does anyone happen to have any paw paw seeds? (from an identified variety, preferably).

Too funny, Jordan! :ha: Nope I didn't forget.

Of course I'm gonna shave some things off this list. I go overboard every year and this is just the beginning.

Ok Bob, are you talking about Asimina Triloba? It's a hardy deciduous tree with 3-5" fruits described as having a creamy strawberry-banana custard flavor?

I can get 10 seeds for 3 bucks. I'll grab them for ya no problem, but not sure exactly when the order will come in. Some of my seeds get here immediately but with some others they make me wait until spring. I'll be placing my order next week, after I condense this list! :ha:

Let me know if these are the "paw paw" seeds you want. I'll be getting them from J.L. Hudson in California...my favorite seed company. The fruits are highly nutricious and contain anti-cancer compounds.

Dang~ Thanks for the offer; I was thinking about looking in my new Hudson catalog too (it's around here *someplace*) ;)
One of my seed customers was just asking about them so I'll just pass along the location.

...can't you tell by that list of mine that I've got enough?! If ya had enough, you'd have some white carrots!
Besides, they're good for you.
Don't tell me you were one of those kids that didn't like their veggies???!!
