Does anyone have a list of rare/ new banana plants available for purchase in Australia?
We want to plant just one plant of a rare variety. But don't know where to find what is available here . The Dept of Primary Industry has many varieties available but you have to know what you're asking for. Thanks

best source is backyard bananas here in Tully , though they may have been trashed in recent cyclone. You are supposed to be able buy from DPI Nambour .. and allowed list was a bit longer .. I would recommend Ducasse and Blue Java

DPI have a list: see post previous post by Gabe 15 . I'm waiting for a reply from Nambour re. suggestions for type to plant here [Lismore NSW].I purchased T.C.'s from DPI.
Yes I was looking at the types you recommended: a Ducasse or Blue Java T.C.
Do you have suckers available ?
Are your Narnies getting back on their feet after Cyclone Yasi?
Thanks for your suggestions.

Yasi was not as harsh on the nanas as Larry was .. I was advised to de-leaf heavily , and this really helped . Could not do all stands , but the ones I did have nice tall stems with good leaves coming out . Pisang Ceylon , I left alone and it got trashed , but not my favourite fruit .. bunches are congested and way to big . I had several bunches to eat during the weeks with no power . Mona Lisa is another excellent eating nana , . I do not think I am allowed to distribute suckers , strict rules here isn't there ?

Available bananas in Australia? The DPI (Sharon Hamil) suggested
Dwarf Ducasse or Dwarf red Dacca.T.C .@$ 8ea
You may be able to distrubute suckers but you have to be a DPI approved grower. with a registered permit to move the plants from and to a disease free area.I enjoy growing bananas. Ours are doing well.
I still haven't got around to working out how to post pics.
