I am obsessed with candles and thought this would make a good place to show your flames...

Nothing lights up the cold depressing nights of winter like a candle does...

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/2nd%20album/DSC01468.jpg

...and they make things more cheerful & interesting also...

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/2nd%20album/DSC01364.jpg

I love them in summer as well...

If you love candles too, and want to share a shot, feel free...

I got this 2 in 1 Glade scented candle with 2 layers. It's called "Creamy Custard & Blushing Apple" and it smells up a room wonderfully...

Candleholder shots are welcome too...

We burn a lot of white tapers and tea lights here. A few other essential oil candles too. I'll get some pics.

I was gonna say...I'd love to see some candle shots with that camera of yours! :08:

I find candles make excellent subjects for photos. They're just so bright and beautiful.

Excited to see your peeks too, Mitchel. I know they'll put mine to shame! :ha:

My favorite use of candles is lighting bonfires to burn pagans at the stake.

I like tealites too, Mitchel. I use them in this favorite mosaic globe lantern sometimes, and votives also...

No rush & no problem, Mitchel. I'll be looking forward to seeing them...

I just like to post shots of my new candles I light. This is another 2 in 1 Glade layer candle I've got burning this morning. It's a dreary overcast day today in London and candles cheer me. :D

This one's called "Fresh Berries & Wild Raspberry"...

So fragrant...my whole bedroom smells like berries!!! :D

This three-wick candle is especially aromatic...

It's a Cranberry Glade soy-based jar candle. ;)

It's the cranberry glade and my whole apartment smells like it. It's been burning since this afternoon...it's one cool candle with great fragrance! :08:

When my girlfriends showed up they both commented on the smell of it throughout my place. I'm going to get the velvet vanilla one next...

It's another scented Glade called "Island Bliss" and it's really getting nice now after burning it for an hour.

Someone say candles ?
I usually buy 50 lbs of wax at a time
I also refill the glass jar candles

Thanks for sharing.

HBL, you know all that Fabreeze and Glade crap is toxic right?

The Hollyberry Lady
03-09-2011, 10:52 PM
Even the candles?! How so?

I don't buy sprays but I do enjoy the candles. Do tell though...

Is this why no one's hardly posted in my candle thread? :ha:

Cyclodextrin in Fabreeze candles. I'm sure there is something just as gross in Glade.

We only burn unscented or essential oil scented but I don't even care for those. I'm not a fan of perfume either. My wife has an essential oil infuser and it drives me nuts even though the oil she uses is very expensive and natural. Yuk!

The Hollyberry Lady

I absolutely adore perfume and scented things, so you'd hate being anywhere near me!

If you knew how many perfumes I have, you'd run! :ha:

Just be grateful that in this thread you can enjoy the candles without the scents! :goteam:

I've heard that a lot of candles, and not just the scented ones, can be toxic. I like the Glade ones actually because they're one of the few candles I know of that don't give off black smoke after it's been burning for a few hours. I can't stand black smokey out of control candles.

Nowadays, it seems everything is toxic. Do you know one summer they told us that walking barefoot at the beach in the sand causes cancer!

I'm not as big on Fabreeze candles but I do like the passion fruit one. I find there is something in Fabreeze that really doesn't agree with me though because my friend uses this one Fabreeze spray that pretty much makes me sick. I tell her not to spray it if I'm around. Yuck is right. :(

Alright, back to lit wicks...

I buy my own scents & color dyes too
I have a bunch of bottles of different scents & add them to the wax
Some of the molds I have are over 35 years old
I used to refill tall cylinder candles for a local restaurant when I was a kid
I used to have a few more molds, but they are plastic & break over the years
One was an old style canon = one of my favorites
2 more were a tall seahorse & a ship

I usually make them during the winter in the basement
Just getting the basement cleared up this year so I can use it again

I used to add my own scents and fragrances to my candles too. Such a fun hobby, candle making is. Be sure to show us some of the candles you make later, Dave. Love to see them, even if they're not lit. ;)

Here's another Glade I've got lit this morning in my dark bedroom, that I'm really enjoying. It's called "soothing escape"...

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/2nd%20album/DSC02572.jpg

It's cold & rainy out so it's just what I need to cheer me up. :D

SOME SCENTED CANDLES KILL! It has been reported that certain scented candles have caused the deaths of birds. Better to not use any and be safe rather than sorry. Many candles also contain lead wicks which emit poisonous fumes and also fragrances that contain neurotoxins.

You get the idea. One person said "If a list of everything dangerous were listed, the bird would be living in a bubble..." which is true too. Whatever..... just sayin' ;)

Lead wicks in candles in the US went out over a decade ago - since 1999/2000
And most Mfg's in the US took the lead out in the 70's
The new metal base is a zinc core
Not sure about any imported or made in other countries if they are still sold here, but not legally
The full ban on lead wick finally went into effect in Oct 2003, on any made/sold imported into the US
No birds in our house

I can only light candles & incense in my bedroom with the door closed because Henry can't take heavy perfume smells of any kind...and I am extremely conscientious of him. I was told when I bought him that he wouldn't appreciate my perfumes and glade oil plug-ins so I took them all out and only spray perfume when I'm going out, but never near Henry.

Thanks for bringing it up though Mitchel because some people may not know about not subjecting their birds to toxic smells and irritating perfumes. Henry mostly stays in the living room where there are absolutely no fragrances and odors of any kind. I also have a very expensive air purifying unit that I use in my living room for Henry too.

It's pretty wild about candles being toxic...I think I'm going to make sure I only buy good toxin-free candles from now on because I really don't want to be breathing harmful substances either.

Oh and another reason I don't light candles near Henry is because I don't want him to get burned!

He's very curious and would likely fly into the flame or try to land on the hot jar! :(

I always makes sure my little bird is safe.

We bought 4 of these hand blown pieces from a glass bower in Denmark. We watched him make similar ones while there. They get used a lot, sometimes on the backyard coffee table, sometimes on the fireplace mantle, sometimes on the living room coffee table.

I absolutely love your shots...and your candles! Very stylish and nice, Mitchel. Thanks so much for finally coming through with such fantastic peeks. I enjoyed looking at them. :D

I have some candleholders similar to yours and have bought many kinds throughout the years. Now I'll have to show off some of my nice holders soon too.

Thanks to you, I can no longer burn a Glade candle in good conscience, so I've switched to plain tea lites and plain white wax votives. ;)

I guess it's time for me to pony up on our bet...

Did I mention how busy I am this evening? Yup...it's laundry...er...hairwashing night, and it's against my religion to have dirty hair! :ha:
