Has anyone got a photo of a desuckering tool?I've never seen one .A new one costs $100. Maybe we could ask our handy-man to make one.

Hello,

I am using this tool, especially for big suckers, but with experience you can also use it for small ones. There are also smaller ones of this tool.

As you see there is a step for the foot, you can make pressure excellent with this and desuckering becomes very easy.

From what I have seen and read the banana farms use a sharpened spade.

I use a digging bar. I have gotten the workout of a lifetime pulling all the suckers out that I need to plant the new farm.

Veronica ------------- I use this guy. It's a standard 2 inch blade 6 foot long digging bar sold at Home Despot and Lowes. Less than 30 bucks. Welder work was another 30. Worth every penny.

Had my welder add a foot assist per my sketch. I use a wheel chock for a fulcrum when pups are very large, or run deep like Pisang Klotek.

Dan Thanks for the photo of the desuckering tool (and the very nice fence its leaning against)
The one available here that "everyone" uses, is about 4 foot high. It's a flat "Bar" about 2". wide with a T Bar handle on the top. the end is sort of spadeded inwards at 30 degrees. No foot assist. Its on the heavy side thus, easy to"spear into the ground. I usually put my foot on the bar to leaver it down to the ground. No home Depot or Lowes-it cost- $90!!! at Rural Buying service. Staggerations!

Staggerations indeed! If I had to pay $90.00 for a measly 4 ft digging bar, T-handle or no, I'd be mad as a cut snake. Certifiably ropeable!

Why don't you try to get around this by taking my pic to a welder and get a quote? Tell them it's 6 ft long with a pommel at the other end. For a complete pic search Home Depot for digging bar. Cheap link, sorry.

Andreas, Is THE 70" bar (very) heavy to lift?

It's actually not that bad. You should be able to manage it. The length is definitely more of an issue than the weight.

The weight is not bad if your going to be pulling 2 or 3 suckers every now and then. I think it weighs 15 lbs. However, if you are establishing several acres you will exhaust yourself with that thing. It's surprising how much of a workout lifting punching into the dirt a 15 lbs bar a few hundred times can be.

17lbs and 72 in. length use for digging and cutting through hard soils in deep holes

My bar isn't as long as the one from Home depot, but the shaft is industrial stainless so its heavy for being a short shaft.. I need to make a foot peg for it yet, maybe a harley one would work.. :^)

I have found that HALF of a Post Hole Digger works great. Simply remove the bolt that that holds the two parts together and WALA....

Creates a long tool with a sort of curved blade that takes just the right amount from the mother plant while removing the pup.

Now saving them after removal is a whole nother story lol

Just my 2 cents
