I am trying to keep my Ae Ae alive for another winter inside. So far it looks rough but it is putting out new leaves. So I have hope.

Looking good! Mine is looking worse, but I had spider mites just after I moved it inside in October.
Mine isn't really growing at all, at the moment, but as long as it looks healthy, I don't worry too much.

I keep spray on hand in case I see spider mites. I already had some on my coconut palms. I keep my Ae Ae on the dry side for the winter inside. And it is in a west window. We have a lot of cloudy days so it is alright there. I have watered it with miracid only maybe 3 times in almost 2 yrs. It has some new leaves so I will keep fingers crossed. The only problem with it is the trunk needs to get thicker and stronger. I also have some spaghnum moss in its dirt.

Hi Vickie I also see a papyrus in that pic that looks a lot like mine do right now. I tried to overwinter some inside last year, but they were dead by spring! Do you have any tips for success in getting them over the winter? Thanks Max

I just keep papyrus and all water plants in the basement in water under lights all winter. I also have umbrella palm, water zinna, Taro, blue bells, water cannas and bog lily. The coldest it gets is 50* when it is very cold outside. Most of the time it is between 55* and 60*. Even my bananas I grow in water are in water all winter down there too. They survive. But after taking them outside in June they take off again.
