So i recently got interested in growing a banana tree in my garden and did some research and there was a lot of noise about "California Gold". Well long story short i have this California Gold tree (apparently) which my friend got for me yesterday for $20. I hope the pic attaches but its 4ft high at least.

So questions are: How often do i water it? How often to fertilize and what with? I want to plant it in the garden, when is good? And can i plant it in my front lawn? Its due south, no shade, and water sprinklers. I thought about raising it in a bed at the front as i did read not to water the plant from the top somewhere.

Any advice would be great.

hey..its addictive these nanners..LOL i started with 4 or so..im overwintering over 40 now..LOL
im in utah..but u in cali i would think you would have great success growing your plant outside.. im sure others here are familar how cold tolerant the cali gold is.. u may have to cover it in dec..jan..?
i use an all purpose fertilizer "banana fuel" 15:5:30 i get it on ebay..but there are some great people on here that sell a good nanner fertilizer.. when i grow my outside i make my own fertilizer.. i use rabbit manure tea ..thus why i only use it in gardens only.. lol smell..:)
most nanners need alot of sun.. even ones im overwintering now..are in my 2 big windows face south..and get tons of sun..
watering..winterizing..i back off alot on watering.. not letting them go bone dry..but definately on drier side before i water again..and these are the active growing nanners.. not unpotted ones..
good luck to ya.. u will love these plants.. i sure do !!!
