So Very Sad Indeed...

Please help me to give poor "Blake09" some acknowledgement and support for something terrible that happened very recently...

Poor Blake's Guinea Fowl were all killed by the dogs. This can happen sometimes, although it is most unfortunate. I'm sure you all remember his cute pics of them in the image thread.

I would post a shot of them that Blake already posted, but I don't want to upset him if he sees this thread. Poor guy.

I know how badly he's been feeling about it, as anyone would be, understandably. Poor Blake.

I know he is planning to get some new Guinea Fowl but it is just very disheartening & discouraging when something like this happens, nonetheless.

I'm so sorry about this, Blake. Don't worry though, brighter days are ahead...

Blake,

I know what you feel like with such a close loss for you. I lost my brother 3-months ago.

It doesn't make things any easier, but; take solace in knowing you have plenty of friends on here with you at this time! Time does heal all wounds!

Blake,

I've had multiple similar experiences with irresponsible "pet" owners. They've killed chickens, attacked a new born calf, and attacked my niece and I. All were separate incidences. Look into the "use of force" laws in your state, especially when dealing with animals.

I feel for your loss.

Thanks everyone, for all your sympathy and understanding. Nice to see so many people care. ;)

Blake, I hope you're feeling a bit better, but I know this kind of thing would take awhile to get over. We all feel so bad for you.

Hope this thread makes you feel a bit better though...

I've had the exact same experience. I raised the guineas from little keats and hand fed them often. They were really sweet and I enjoyed having some life around the garden. Well, the neighbor's dog kept coming over and killing them one by one. I don't understand how they could seem so unconcerned about their dog killing my pets. Even if they were just livestock...I'd have plenty of reason to be mad. On top of this, all the killings were on my property. It is not like my guineas were going over to their property. They offered to pay for the killed guineas the first few times. Well, I should have shot their dog and then offered to pay them for what they had in it. Anyhow, I've given up on guineas. Originally they were a bit of an experiment to see if I could keep Peacocks without them being eaten by predators. I never realized that the predator lived next door. Anyhow, I've gotten over most of the disappointment by now (a year later) but I've written off the neighbors. My wife and kids still socialize with them but I'm done with them. I think my next project will be an aviary with cactus planted all around. At least then the neighbors might keep their dog in just to avoid having to pick out all those spines. I did have someone say that you can feed chickens rat poison and it won't kill them but will kill whatever eats them. That sounds a bit risky. Anyhow, sorry for your loss. Sadly I haven't figured out a solution to keep guineas safe from neighborhood dogs or I would have gotten more. They sure did eat the ticks. I guess the best part was having them follow me around while I worked in the garden and they had a really pleasant whistling coo that I liked. Man, now I'm bummed again.
