We managed to stay snow free, here, until Dec.26, but then we got a doozy; 30 inches (72 cm).

John, I am so glad the storm veered out to the east, as we only got a dusting, but sorry for you guys. That's one of the things I don't miss about New York!

Definitely a LOT of snow! The roads still arent all plowed here and some people cannot get off their blocks! Cars stranded on the street and lots of icy spots!
Im pretty sure 30 inches is an all time record amount of snow for Staten Island. 27 is the record for Central Park and they only got 20 inches there (5th highest snowfall total of all time)

Thats crazy how much snow you got in NYC. I am in St Louis MO, we got about 3 inches christmas eve, now is foggy and raining outside and its melting, supposed to be 55 degrees tomorrow so it will be gone then.

Yes, Bob was bragging about how you guys had no snow yet, but it looks like you finally got yours, eh?! :ha:
I have no sympathy unfortunately ;) because we've had it for 3-4 weeks now!
Poof, be gone!

We got hit w/ about 6-12 inches once so far (few weeks ago). Today is 40's & sunny & tomorrow even warmer. I'd rather have snow than those mudslides in CA!!! That & eastern snow/blizzard & then the frost in FL killing the citrus crops. I feel very lucky ...but, we'll get ours soon I bet.

:coldbanana:I've been watching all this on the news. All these stranded people at airports all over the world.
Patty, I'll bet you are really enjoying that new wood stove, eh? I'd be backed up to that most of the day.

Yeah Janan, that little thing has never gone out since we lit it. It's in basement under garage but it helps heat the whole house... the garage is always around 70 - 72F. We have a sofa sleeper in front of it so sometimes we stare at the flames (mesmerizing) and then fall backwords asleep. It's often 80F in that room, & then I come home to my house at 68* ...that's why I'm sick right now LOL.

Sounds so cozy Patty! I would fall asleep too! Yeah, that would have a tendency to make you sick with the temperature fluctuating. And getting in and out of the cold. You need to take care!!!
I wanted to ask you how your Dragon Fruit tasted the other day, but saw you just posted it hasn't ripened yet. ~J

Praying for no more snow storms and no more snow.

Nice snow pictures. I miss the snow since I grew up in north central Kansas. It's supposed to be in the 70's here tomorrow... not quite like winter.

Thanks Howard! ;)
That shot was taken at the bridge, just steps from where I live. I took the shot right after a huge snow storm. Here's the other side...

While this storm wasn't the record breaker, it was close. The city was loudly denounced for the way they handled the clean up. Places in Manhattan, like around city hall, and tourist areas were down to bare pavement in a matter of hours, but in the outer boroughs, (counties) it was a differnt story. Staten Island (one of the outer boroughs)got the most snow, but we also have the least population, hence the least clout. The local newspaper had a picture of one S. I. block that was well plowed. It's the block where the Sanitation Department comissioner lives.
Here's an excerpt fom an editorial, in the paper.

You see, gotta mean something for them to burn the fuel and plow during nights. ;)
John , have you been plowed out yet. I saw Bloomberg on the news spewing his spin on it. Not good that so many people died due to budget cuts and emergency services being hindered.

Hi, Bob. We're kind of half way plowed. In the tracks, where the wheels of the vehicles travel, it's mostly down to wet pavement, but there's still plenty of slop in the middle, and on the edges. It's almost like they went down the street with the plow blade a couple of inches off the road.

What is the record amount of snow for Staten Island? I know that 27 inches is the record for Central Park, but I cant find anything about Staten Island. Since Staten island got 29 inches, that has to be close to a record if it isnt one. I think this was the 5th highest snowfall that Manhattan has ever received with 20 inches of snow on the ground! Ive never seen this much snow here and the roads are still not great (4 days later!).

Saw, in yesterday's New York Post that some whistle-blowers said that some supervisors had told the men to do just what I had suspected; keep the blade a couple of inches off the road, and generally slow down the whole operation, in order to protest cut backs.
Here in Denmark we also have got a "little" portion of snow, the picture are from one of our island called Bornholm. The ground have been covered with snow since the middle of november, and temperature down to -24c. Normaly we first get snow and freezing temperatures after newyear, but our last two winters have been very extreme. Today we have sun and 2c, the first day for a long time where the temperature have been over 0c.
