Al Gore said Florida would get swallowed by the sea but for some reason, this year we have had the coldest Jan-Mar on record and we are heading toward the coldest December in memory. Somehow we squeezed in the hottest june on record too but that seems a distant memory. I'm below 27 degrees latitude and the temperature hasn't even gotten above 50 at noon today.

You know my banana trees had just started to grow again and a little bit of green was starting to peek out and now another frost/freeze. I am starting to feel like I'm in Mobile or Biloxi with this weather. How do you guys deal with getting froze out every year because I have had bananas since 2006 and had never froze until now.

Take it as blessing. At least you won't have to deal with non-native fauna for some time now. It will just die off. ;)

Nick,

The freeze outs used to be few and far between.

I thought last year was a fluke that we wouldn't soon repeat. Well, guess what! I'm really tired of this now, this morning was 24 and it will be below 30 in the morning again. Maybe "climate change" is a more accurate name than "global warming"!

Yeah maybe I can rest assure that there won't be any burmese pythons infesting my bananas in the near future

Nick --- What were your temps last nite? I saw high 20's for awhile here in PSL. Managed to cover the important stuff though. Friday will tell the extent of the damage.

As far as Al Gore's predictions are concerned, just look at the Island countries that will cease to exist in the near future. The ice is melting with no trend change in sight.

I've actually stayed fairly warm the past 2 nights, we had a low of 38 the morning of the 27th, and a low of 42 the morning of the 28th. We had wind all night which helped out. I am worried about tonight because there is no wind at all. I won't argue that ice is melting, the sea level is rising, co2 is rising and global temps have risen. However, a lot of the weather is more influences by cyclical things like El nino, the north atlantic oscillation and the Arctic Oscillation. Why there is a persistent low over greenland this year I don't know

The NOAA report said that this december was 10 degrees colder than average and that the year as a whole was 1 degree below average. Weird year!

From the Potsdam Institute summary:

Our simulations reveal a rather pronounced nonlinear response of air temperatures and winds to the changes of sea-ice cover," Petoukhov, a physicist, says. "It ranges from warming to cooling to warming again, as sea ice decreases." An abrupt transition between different regimes of the atmospheric circulation in the sub-polar and polar regions may be very likely. Warming of the air over the Barents-Kara Sea seems to bring cold winter winds to Europe. "This is not what one would expect," Petoukhov says. "Whoever thinks that the shrinking of some far away sea-ice won't bother him could be wrong. There are complex teleconnections in the climate system, and in the Barents-Kara Sea we might have discovered a powerful feedback mechanism.

+ volcano. ;)

You`re not the only one who`s disappointed, now. :0491:

It seems that there`s no need to run our coal power stations any longer... :ha:
