My wife is active in the local chapter of Grandmothers for Africa, which is associated withe the Stephen Lewis Foundation*. A friend, who travelled recently to Kenya (strictly on donated air miles and her own expenses, not taking any of the raised money out of the charity coffers) brought this ornament back for my wife.

I think it is beautiful and the attached label (4¼ inch by 3¾ inch for scale) explains, what it is.

*For non-Canadians: Stephen Lewis stems from a Canadian family of politicians, was several years ago appointed as UN Ambassador to Africa and remained there after his term was up to alleviate the plight caused by the ravages of AIDS, which left many innocent children orphaned and in the care of their grandmothers. Grandmothers for Africa is trying to support their African peers, saddled with a burden late in life, they did not deserve.
Best,

Olaf

Very nice. All us bananimals should have one to go with our living banana collections.

Most of our bananas are now in some form of "hibernation" or trying to grow indoors. While we are anxiously waiting for spring, to see how they fared during this uncertain period, we should relax and observe customs and traditions in places, where bananas are still doing well in this time of the year.

While bananas are not central to this fun video, they are present all throughout the background.
