View Full Version : My Pet Store Visit...
The Hollyberry Lady

My mom and I often go to the petstore to pick up supplies for our spoiled little cutie pies, Henry the budgie & Buttons the bunny. ;)
Today was my mom's birthday and we found ourselves at the petstore after lunch, meeting some adorable little creatures. I will take shots each time I go and post pics of the new pets they get in.
I am a bird owner so today I looked at nothing but. This stunningly gorgeous baby African Grey really took to me and even let me scratch his head twice...
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/2nd%20album/DSC00620.jpg
The petstore guy was super jealous because he said he's been trying to scratch his head for days and he won't let him! :ha:
Here he was playing...
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/2nd%20album/DSC00627.jpg
I fell in love with him but of course I had to be loyal to Henry and couldn't get him. Plus too, he cost 2000 bucks and I wasn't prepared to put out that kind of cash!
Here were some other adorable birds I saw, including this pretty Conure...
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/2nd%20album/DSC00618.jpg
All these next ones were so cute too...

Next time I go, I'll take some more shots of some other pets they have too. I just love birds! :D
If anyone else visits a petstore and remembers to take some shots, feel free to post them here also...

He does look pretty fat!
He was napping though and had his head down in his neck and looked much fatter in the picture than he actually was. :ha:

LoL Tom! :ha:
Did you know that birds can make themselves look really fat? Henry does it all the time. They can squeeze super thin too...it works both ways. ;)
Yes Janan, that white bird is quite unusual looking, isn't he? He looks kind of grumpy in the one picture...I dared to disturb their naptime!
I could have stayed there the whole day watching them. They're so interesting and adorable. I want to go back and see that African Grey and felt like he bonded with me today...
No I better not on 2nd thought...or he'll be under my tree for Christmas!
I'll just look at his picture when I miss him. I sure hope he finds a great owner to care for and love him. For the money they're asking for him, no doubt it will be someone who will adore and spoil him. I just wish it could be me. ;(
Henry would have a fit if he knew I was talking like this! :ha:

WOW! I had no idea finches came in that multi-colored variety! :O
We got my mom two Zebra finches for one of her birthdays and they quickly grew in numbers. Eventually their family reached it's end through a few ceiling fans, a couple of dogs, and some bad interbreeding genetics, but I enjoyed 'em while they lasted.

Yes they are kinda cool Zac and they have many other colored ones too. I've seen some real cool ones there over the years.
They'll likely get more in for Christmas so I'll show them if they do...

I saw the dog grooming station first but as I snapped a shot, the lady in the photo informed me that it was against policy to take a picture of other people's dogs, even though the lady that owned them was standing right there and said I could...

That gecko looks like he is smiling! I have those all over my windows in the summer time. They like to snack on the moths that come to the windows at night. Here's a shot I took of one of my "wild" lizards:

Yes I thought the same thing about that gecko...that he looks like he's smiling. Some of them really look like they're posing for the shots.
Animals seem to like my camera and are curious about it...likely because it's bright hot pink! :ha:
That African Grey just loved it.

Yeah, she was gorgeous Janan. If she was a male, I don't know if I could have left the store without him!
It's too soon for me to get another bird yet though. I am stil grieving Henry and need more time. That Conure was so playful and comical I couldn't believe it. He was 700 bucks!
Oh pardon me...$699.99! :ha:

I think the pink one was $99.99 and the white one was $49.99. I could have bought any one them and have the cage and things to make any bird happy...but I just couldn't do it. Not yet...it's not the right time.
I like Janan's idea though about getting some fish. What about those mini frogs I told you guys about before that I saw at the GreenEarth store? I would want them in something bigger though.
I don't know if I should just yet. Not sure.
I don't want anything high maintenance, because I will eventually get another bird someday...a male budgie. He'll be a different color than Henry was though.
I still haven't put away Henry's cage yet. Can't seem to do it.
Maybe I will get a fish...

Get the fish tank first though, and set it up with everything then "cycle" it before putting fish in it. Usually a couple weeks after setting it up.
If I trusted shipping them I could send you the fish, my endlers are small and low maintenance. But I don't trust the mail services with living animals that much.
The dwarf frogs need a bit more maintenance when it comes PH wise though. But that isn't that much. Just a good filter and everything, and some PH checking kits.
Do you know what you might be wanting fish tank wise? Freshwater, brackish, saltwater? Community (more then one type of fish), single species, or single specimen tanks?
Jananas Bananas

I agree Sherry too soon!
You need to consider a rescue too! You have so much love to give an animal. And there are so many that need love and attention.
The Hollyberry Lady
11-22-2011, 01:06 AM
Even the ones in the petstores need rescuing. They told me that people buy rabbits and then drop them off at the petstore doors just a few months later and leave them there! Other pets too that people don't want anymore.
I want a bird and usually our animal shelters here only have dogs and cats. We'll see. I'm already discouraged about fish I think though. I don't want to have to get an aquarium and all that stuff. I was thinking like a fish in a fishbowl type-thing. Easy but something that sort of resembled a pet.
I could impulsively buy another bird sometime soon so I don't want to invest in a big fancy fish outfit in the meantime that I might lose interest in once I get a bird. Make sense?
Maybe I'll just catch a spider in a jar. :ha:

Jananas Bananas

Yes, that is why I suggested a Beta fish. The are beautiful and graceful, tons of color (even purple) and can live in a fish bowl. No fancy set up required. They live in mud puddles overseas.
That is true - that happens sometimes here at the pet stores too. A lot of the specific rescue groups sometimes set up outside the major pet stores with adoption stations.

Check out those shots. You can only have one male per bowl. They are also known as Siamese Fighting fish or Japanese Fighting fish. If those pictures don't convince you nothing will!!! :lurk:

Our Wal-Mart sells them. You can usually find them at the big pet store chains too, like PetSmart and PetCo. They usually have them stacked up in small cups on a shelf - or maybe one male in with a group of other fish.
I thought you might like them. :) I've had many - my most beautiful one was a purple and white paint. Be warned though - the life span is not terribly long. About 3 years is about the oldest I have had. You can set a mirror beside the bowl (or they look real pretty in a larger brandy snifter with matching marbles) and they will flare like that thinking it is another male.

Nice pics! I really like the reptiles! I think Iguanas are so cool! I saw my first one in Mexico and it was probably 4 feet long! They are all over the Place in the US Virgin Islands as well and in Southern Florida (they are probably everywhere in the Carribean though).
We have a few species of wild lizards here, apparently we used to have a ton of them 50 years ago when things werent as built up. Probably my favorite wild lizard here is the Italian Wall Lizard. They was introduced here accidentally from Italy. They are probably the most "tropical" and one of the larger lizards around here. I still havent seen one here though, they live in certain neighborhoods.
The birds look so nice too and so do the Fish!
Thanks for sharing!
