I think most if not all the Burmese Pythons were wiped out in last winter's cold spell. Probaby wiped out the monitor lizards as well. I'm not certain about the rest of the invasives, but I'm sure most had serious dents put in their populations.

Yeah, Mom nature will always find a way to make it right. Unlike people, who have screwed in every possible case.

Don't forget about Hawaii!! Florida gets a lot of press as it's part of the continental states, but Hawaii is just as much under threat as Florida, although Florida is a little more messed up.
We have the same problem of trying to keep out pests, but we also have the highest number of endangered and extinct species listed out of all the US states.
Hopefully that cold spell did help wipeout some of the aliens. Too bad we don't get cold spells, haha! Yeah, right!

Yeah, I remember being in Hawaii and seeing all these exotic birds begging for crumbs. Not native, but what you'd see in an exotic bird store. I think Maui has a problem with Jackson's chameleons. They are expensive exotic pets everywhere else, but too many on Maui. I also remember seeing where they were dropping people from helicopters to destroy these large, beautiful tree ferns. I know they needed to get rid of them, but at those sizes it might be best to ship them to L.A. and sell them for thousands of dollars each. Hawaii might be too perfect. Everything thrives there a little too well.

I remember hearing that the iguanas in Florida on the roads might not have been dead, but just pretty much in a coma. Not sure if that goes for all of them, but Im sure that many iguanas died from the cold anyway. Im glad to hear that the pythons decreased in number!
Hawaii does have a huge amount of alien species. Fortunately they do seem to be much stricter about what comes in and out of the islands now.

Those were all posted in 2009 and 2010. The burmese pythons didnt die and they are still spreading in Florida. this happened last October.

It shows that they are trying to stop them spreading into north Florida and the keys and that the numbers are increesing.

I don't really envy you these aliens. But hey.... you brought them there. What did you expect would happen :bananas_b?
The nature will find its way. Most probably by eliminating the weak - many native Florida animals.

There are Indonesian, and Australian fern trees that compete with Hawaiian fern trees. The Hawaiian species has more brown 'fur' on the fronds and stem and it supports far more critters living in it than the other types. Plus, the brown 'fur' makes it more attractive IMHO. :08:

California has a huge problem with invasive species too. The reason mountainsides are green in winter and spring and brown in summer and fall is because our grasslands have been completely overrun by invasive Mediterranean grasses. I don't think invasive animals are nearly as much a problem here as invasive plants.

I would have thought that some insects would be invasive too. There are non-native insects everywhere, like earwigs and European bees.
