Hi ...
Last week I went to my friend living a few kilometers from my home and we harvested some basjoo bananas to see if they have seeds...My friend has two clumps of basjoo bananas ;one is very high as it grows in a very rich soil (3-4meters)and one is smaller while it's growing in a poor soil (2-3m) both of them have the same origin ,in our area basjoo bananas are cultivated since about 100years,and it seems that only the old basjoo clumps can produce bananas with seeds...For exemple mine have never produce seeds but they are of Tc ...

this one is very big but bananas seem to have no seeds

no seeds here too

But in this one, some bananas have seeds so we decided to collect 5 or 6 bananas..the bananas are not ripen so the bunch will be wrapped in a plastic bag with an apple to mature them(apple produce ethylen gas that make the bananas ripen)

you can see the size of these bananas(cms down, inches up)

Finally we harvested only 10 or 11 seeds and some are sur not viable, but I sent it to Gabe for trying an embryo rescue

Bon Jour, biroko child,

The pix are very nice and cool, and nice to see them.

In our country of Japan, Basjoo is very common and planted every wheres
wild. However it is seldom to find fat naturally pollinated Basjoo fruits.
Most of them are angular and thin with no seeds inside.

Yes, there also are two types in height, one is tall(over 4m) and the other
dwarf type of under 3m or so. I really don't know if this is due to the soil
or inheritance.
And I find also there are two types of colour of its brackts, one is yellow,
and the other is browon with slightly yellowish colour.
I also don't know why.

Hi Ivan,
I have a Sakhalin basjoo that has never been TC it was collected on the island by Alan (musa monkey) in 2007.
I can send you a pup from that plant if you would like one!
It would be useful if you ever fancy hand pollinating the two different clones.
PM me your address if your interested and I will post it to you.

Cheers,
Tony
