Whole wheat pasta is way better for you so it's good you're eating it, Janan.
Oh I love cherries! They're at the top of my list of favorites...along with mangoes, raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries. :D
Yummy! :goteam:
It's currently 35°C...95°F and muggier than a bloodey sauna! It's no wonder why I'm enjoying one of these...

Gonna make a meat loaf with the whole hard boiled eggs in it, along with the standard BBQ and Worcestershire sauces, fresh beaten eggs, bread crumbs or stuffing, chopped onions, and Mom likes it with ketchup coating the top and a squiggle of mustard before I bake it. Have some fresh peas and a salad. Should be good. She has a severe hiatal hernia, so I can make the blandest thing and she may still have to run to the john sick. The joys of being 91 I guess.

Sounds yummy, Jordan. :08:
Janan, that looks amazingly delicious. :goteam: My kind of meal. I eat Angus beef as often as I can.
One of my most favorite things in the world is an ice cold ripe mango, peeled and dripping with juice. These fruits I picked up recently are of excellent quality and taste...

Alright then, here is my peanut butter ball recipe :)
Ingredients:
18 ounces peanut butter
1 (16-ounce) box of confectioners sugar
1 1/3 cups graham cracker crumbs (or just busted up in small peices ;))
3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) of unsalted softened butter
12 ounces milk chocolate melted (Hersheys candy bars work good, and when melting it is best to have one pot with hot water, then another smaller pot inside that one with the chocolate)
In a large bowl, combine peanut butter, confectioners sugar, graham cracker crumbs, and softened butter. Mash together until combined. Form the mixture into balls. Then put a tooth pick into each ball so you can dip them into the chocolate later. Transfer to the refrigerator or other cold area until hardened, about 30 minutes. Then dip the peanut butter balls into the melted chocolate and set back into the cold until the chocolate is hardened.
Thats it :) Here is ours right now:

I'll find the recipe tomorrow for you Janan. I thought the macaroni need more cheese because it was a little too dry for me, my mom also added a less crushed red pepper because she doesn't like spicy food. . The recipe called for a different type of bread crumb, but my sister wanted to try the japanese bread crumbs.

Tonight it's gonna be red beans and rice. Tomorrow night will be beans - maybe black beans or navy beans - some fresh collard greens and some mustard greens if I can find them. I'll cook corn bread on top of the stove - I like it that way. Oh, and some buttermilk. I think I could live on beans, corn bread and buttermilk. If I make black beans I'll top it with sour cream and then add a mixture of onion, tomato, jalapano with olive oil. Now I'm hungry!

Of course we did, Sherry, I really pigged out and stayed until they kicked us out :ha:
Seriously, the lady put on a fantastic spread. She really likes to cook gourmet style. That of course
creates a dilemma for us. There is no way we can reciprocate in kind. I hope the husband meant it,
when he said that he liked my front yard and wants to do something similar with his. He just retired
and has now more time to do it. Maybe I can help him with providing some of my plants and muscle.

Guess what? This morning the neighbour came over with a tray of turkey meat, stuffing 3 kinds of

1. I have behaved reasonably civilized :)
2. The neighbours are tired of the leftovers
I like to assume #1 and take full credit for it :ha:

: )
Any lady, who feeds me that well is not just nice or sweet, but terrific! :)
I had previously spoken to 3 different ones of her Grade 12 history classes about the Nazi era.
Last night she approached me about doing the same on Globalization. I am not sure she meant it and I
didn't think I wanted to do it, but after I got back home I considered it and found, that there was a lot
I could talk about on the subject.
So just an hour ago I roughed out a concept and emailed it to her, but the elephant in the room is our
trip to Vietnam and preparations for it won't leave me enough time to flesh out the details in preparation.
So I could not do it before March 20, 2012. I presume by that time her class will be well past the
subject. :( [:)] Phew! :ha:

It's tradition for me to make a roast beef each year for new year's. Here's the Angus Prime Rib I cooked at my mom's place...
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/3rd%20album/IMG_3541.jpg
Ontario is the beef province of Canada so we have the best. This one came from a farm, and the quality and flavor were superior to the ones I've bought from the grocery store. Way more juicy and tender too. I made it with onions and fresh Bay leaves from my tree, adding worchestershire near the end of cooking...
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/3rd%20album/IMG_3547.jpg
The gravy came out incredible too. So rich and full of beef flavor...
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/3rd%20album/IMG_3545.jpg

Thanks for the photos. I'm in awe from the pictures, I can imagine how you must have felt. Besides the food presentation I was struck by the pots, especially the one with the full sized tree in it. Amazing! Thank you again. I'd like to see more.
Thank you, Terry, I was actually quite concerned, that I was overdoing it with this series of pics
This makes me feel better.
As I said, we will head for Vietnam again next Wednesday and I am looking forward to take a lot more pictures.
Just in case you are interested in this beautiful country here are more pictures: http://www.bananas.org/f2/i-think-i-scored-coup-13386.html

I agree with Terry, Olaf! :goteam:
Please take lots of shots of your meals when you're away in Vietnam so we can see them too. Very unique and unusual. ;)
Had spaghetti tonight! :ha:

Okay, here are a few more dinner plate presentations:
http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=47531 (http://www.bananas.org/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=47531&ppuser=7269)
What you see here intruding on the table edge are my shorts, when I leaned over to take the picture

http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=47529 (http://www.bananas.org/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=47529&ppuser=7269)
Well, it is not all about dinners. The coffee in Vietnam is incredible. Since I cannot get it here,
I am ordering it from a guy who imports it to the States.
http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=47536 (http://www.bananas.org/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=47536&ppuser=7269)
It isn’t just the dinner and the p.m. cup of coffee, but breakfast omelettes are pretty fancy too. :)
And then, of course, there are the eateries; The meals are almost all under $10.-, mostly 5.- to 8.-
The following pics are all from a restaurant in the centre of Hue:
http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=47528 (http://www.bananas.org/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=47528&ppuser=7269)
http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=47532 (http://www.bananas.org/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=47532&ppuser=7269)
http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=47533 (http://www.bananas.org/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=47533&ppuser=7269)
The restaurants are often quite ornate, but nowhere near as garish as Chinese Restaurants are here.
http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=47535 (http://www.bananas.org/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=47535&ppuser=7269)
And some of the landscaping outside
If this gives the impressions, that Vietnam is all about restaurants and good food, - far from it. It is a very
rich country, not in money, but in culture, natural beauty and, for this forum, beautiful landscaping artistry.

Gravy Making...it's all in the method. ;)
When most people think of making gravy, they think of an over-sized soup pot brimmimg to the top with it! :ha: This is the #1 gravy no-no (unless you've got a 30 pound bird!) if you want yours to be rich and full of flavor. Less is best if you want a rich and flavorful gravy, as opposed to a bland and tasteless one.
There's nothing worse than greasy gravy! Disgusting! And you don't need one of those silly separators either. Just a big spoon and some patience can go a long way in removing the grease off the top of the pan drippings before you make your gravy. If you have more time, you can put the drippings in the fridge and the fat will harden on the surface...then you just skim the top to remove it.
After you've skimmed off the fat, you put just the drippings in a pot to cook it down over medium heat and make it browner and richer. Then use boiling water from the tea kettle to add to the pan drippings in the pot...just a little at a time (1/4 cup) until it bubbles and then you add as much as you need (usually four to six cups). The amount of boiling water to add should be in accordance to the pan drippings, so that it doesn't lighten the color or lessen the flavor. If the color does lighten, you'll know you've added too much.
Now you can add some chopped onion or some seasonings like summer savory for turkey gravy or bay leaf in beef gravy, garlic in pork gravy....or anything that you like, to enhance the flavor of your gravy. Mushrooms should be added at the end so they don't over-cook.
Now for the tough part...
Use a small glass jar with a lid (about the size of a cup to a cup 1/2). Fill it up 3/4 full of cold water, and then add three heaping tablespoons (regular spoon, not a measuring one) of all-purpose flour. Make this jar mixture after your gravy is boiling on medium heat...do not make it any earlier so it's sitting around. Now put your lid on your jar. Shake that jar for all your worth, until the flour and water have completely mixed together and there are absolutely no lumps. It must be smooth. When you open the jar there should be no flour around the top...this will tell you it's ready. Shake for at least 1-2 minutes.
Pour your flour/water mixture VERY slowly into the boiling water in the gravy pot, using a whisk and stirring constantly as you're pouring. You do not need to use all of the flour water and you will usually have at least a 1/4 of a jar left over. The idea is to thicken the gravy without lessening the flavor. There's nothing worse than gravy that tastes like flour so you're only gonna use just enough to thicken. The color will lighten slightly as you add the flour water and this is normal, but don't add too much. Taste it as you go if you're new at this, so you can make sure you're not losing any flavor. When you get to be good at gravy making, it then becomes a judgement call.
Tip: It's not just the ingredients you're using, it's your method that counts most. You can drain the water off your carrots, turnip, and potatoes, to add to your pan drippings instead of kettle water, for a more intense flavor. Fish gravy can be made with milk, onions, and chives...but that's another story. :ha:
Note: gravy is not healthy on a regular basis, so it should not be made too often. I like it over the holidays and special occasions. Moderation is key.

While most of you were still sleeping and possibly dreaming of breakfast, I went out for dinner by myself. Margot,
my wife, was too 'bushed' after 36 hours of travelling, followed by 6 hrs of sleep, so was I, but I couldn't
possibly admit that. :ha:
So I had a curried pork (lean, three brochettes) $3.85 and a bottle of beer, $0.60 For a grand total of $4.45 :)
Oh yes, I tipped generously to bring the tab up to an even $5.- It is amazing, how tasty they can make little
pieces of dead porkers. :ha:
Eat your hearts out!
