I just noticed some strange marks on the pseudostem of 2 of my bananas in the front yard. It looks like something scratched the pseudostem 1 to 3 feet up from the ground. The leaves have not been eaten. I live in a suburban neighborhood but with all kinds of wildlife including deer, racoons, opossums (I saw a red fox in my yard 2 nights ago). I think this might be caused by a buck rubbing the velvet off his antlers. Any other thoughts? Has anyone had similar damage?

I was thinking a buck too. Do you see any prints in the pine straw?

I just checked, but I don't see any prints. Although I don't think I would recognize hoof prints unless they were in mud or dirt.

Whatever it was, it looks like it came back last night and finished the job.

I was originally planning on leaving this banana outside through the winter. Do you think that I should dig it up and bring it inside or leave the corm in the ground and hope for the best?

Remote cameras could help you with your answer. I hope your plant survives.
