Our county picks up the fallen leaves every fall. They then have a composting center where they make them in a compost called LeafGro. I've heard some nice things about it. Has anyone used it? I assume I'll still have to put shredded hardwood mulch on top to provide enough cold protection in the winter? Thanks.

Excellent stuff! Get as much as you can & use it like fert... put it all around your plants & even till it in if you can. It's the best esp for free!

me too !! ive collected leaves in the fall for yrs now..
i got some 30 bags today.. i'll mow them down.. most go on the vegy
garden..i spread rabbit manure,leaves,and grass clippings..then throw
garden soil on top..let it compost over winter.. its not all broke down when i plant..but by end of sept it is..
i save some back just for compost i make in hot method..
worms seem to love it. ya cant have enough organic matter in your soil..
and more diverse the soil ..better to fend off diseases/molds..etc..
i wish they sold just leaf compost here.. :( the city mixes it with everything
else they compost.. trees,grass,etc..
