I was awake last night until around 5:30 AM, after the paper boy had already delivered the Washington Post. Awoke around 4 hours later when the guys started mowing my lawn. This is regular sleeping problem for me, as anyone who looks at my posting times will know.

It's not illness related in my case, but I do spend many nights awake. Just awful lot of work, hobbies and insufficient amount of ladies in my bed that would tire me up.
Nighttime is ideal for working (in my case) because everybody else sleeps and I get all the silence and peace I could wish for.

Lately I go to bed at a pretty early time for me (but late for most people!), but when I dont I'll be posting here for sure!

Now Jack, you didn't think I would let this go by without comment, did you? ".... and insufficient amount of ladies in my bed that would tire me up." I think that well may be my problem too. As you all know, men are widely known for falling asleep right afterwards when she wants to cuddle and talk! And I'm not even talking about the possibility that you meant more than one at the same time. :ha:

You guys are too funny! :ha:
Just be sure you don't have too many ladies in your bed or you might end up in this situation, where you might need a little reminding...

I had trouble sleeping last night and tossed and turned for a couple hours as usual, but it wasn't from a lack of ladies in my bed! http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/2nd%20album/emo1.gif
Nope, for me it was because I'm excited about weekend plans, and had to get up early this morning to meet the boyfriend for a coffee date. I've been up since 5:30 am!!!
Hopefully tonight I won't be posting in this thread with another case of insomnia...

Well here I am, up until the wee hours of the morning...once again.
Kind of like it when things are quiet at night sometimes and you can think though.
Went for a bikeride earlier in the afternoon yesterday and thinking of going again tomorrow...I mean today. The cold weather is approaching fast and soon biking season will be over.
Here's my bike...

Thinking too about the rest of the plants I have to bring indoors tomorrow for Winter protection. Brought in my mystery banana plant from Texas a couple night's ago, and it's growing again already. :D
Feel free to babble on about anything at all in this thread for middle of the night ramblers & babblers about nothing in particular. :ha:
Here's a nice shot I took on Friday afternoon of some October trees near my place...

What can I do to improve my sleep habits?
Here are some things you can do to help you sleep better...
* Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, even if you didn't sleep enough during the night. This will help train your body to sleep at night.
* Do the same thing every night before going to bed to help your body get ready for sleep. You might try taking a warm bath, reading or doing some other relaxing activity every night before going to bed. Soon you'll connect these activities with sleeping, and they'll help make you sleepy.
* Use the bedroom for sleeping. Don't eat, talk on the phone or watch TV while you're in bed.
* Make sure your bedroom is quiet and dark. If noise is a problem, use a fan to mask the noise or use ear plugs. You may hang dark blinds over the windows or wear an eye mask if needed.
* Avoid trying to fall asleep. The more you try to fall asleep, the more trouble you may have. Don't watch the clock. Turn it away so you can't see the time.
* Lying in bed and not being able to fall asleep can be frustrating. If you're still awake after 30 minutes, get up and go to another room. Sit quietly for about 20 minutes before going back to bed. Do this as many times as you need to until you can fall asleep.
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/2nd%20album/sleep2.jpg
Tips to help you sleep...
* Avoid or limit your use of caffeine (coffee, tea, colas, chocolate), decongestants, alcohol and tobacco.
* Exercise more often, but don't exercise within a few hours before going to bed.
* Don't start worrying about things when you go to bed. Set another time aside just for worrying. For example, you could spend 30 minutes after dinner writing down what's worrying you and what you can do about it.
* Try eating a light snack before going to bed, but don't eat too much right before bedtime. A glass of warm milk or cheese and crackers may be all you need.
*Don't nap during the day if naps seem to make your insomnia worse.

Maybe I'm shooting wildly here, Holly, but you're young, these disorders can easily be cured by the presence of a man (or more men). Most of these issues (including many other illnesses, diseases...) are a matter of psychology and psyche; the problem is usually hidden somewhere else than the physical manifestation or the "effect".
I know, for example, what would cure my temper and behaviour, and it is, not so surprisingly, a much warmer (and sunnier!) climate. Though beeing born here, I can't stand the cold, darkness that is present here usually at least 6 months/year... etc. Yet I can't unbind myself from this place... Ironically.
When a summer comes, I'm literally happy, relaxed, peaceful, ... have a great daily regime, but as it gets too cold to wear only T-shirts (outside), I start beeing aggressive, my natural regime is completely upside down, bad moods... are so natural, that good mood is a welcome change and it causes me physical stress that manifests as various health problems (non-existent I might add).
Maybe insomnia is just a way your body and mind tries to compensate or warn about something that causes you stress yet is unconscious or invisible for you under normal circumstances.
When I started fighting my winter moods and temper psychologically, it brought me great relief (and so it did for everybody in my surroundings :08:).
At some point, I was even happy for the snow and cold (yup, there were some moments, when I liked snow :D )
Is there maybe something that could be the root of your insomnia problem?

So this it the new boyfriend you've been talking about lately? :ha:
The Hollyberry Lady
10-20-2010, 05:06 PM
Sometimes I wonder Jack...because Henry is worse than a jealous boyfriend at times and doesn't want me looking at, nor talking to any other birds, other than him! :ha:
Even sometimes when I'm on the phone with my boyfriend, Henry gets very jealous that the attention isn't on him and he squawks loudly and does bomb dives over my head to let me know he completely disapproves. It's kinda funny how possessive he is of me.
He's even jealous of my plants and if he sees me spending what he decides is a little too much doting time, he has an absolute flipping fit!
Who really needs a boyfriend with him around anyway? Well ok, I guess there might be a few reasons why! :ha:

Warm milk and honey with an over the counter or Dollar Store Benedryl will work for me sometimes. Then sometimes nothing works. Those PM medications have Benedryl in them. Chamomile, Valerian, Passion Flower combos work sometimes too if you stay natural - both as teas or in pill form.

Yes Jack...some changes are indeed in order and I'm working on it...
I usually have insomnia worse, staying over at someone else's place, but maybe I should have him stay over more often. You just love it when you're right Jack! :08:

Yeah, thought that should be in PM. :)
It's just an essential need to want to be close to somebody from some point in your life (depends on personality, 18+ years). Could be your insomniac trigger, could not be, I don't know, worth a try.

You know, Holly, that's a very long story. To make it short: I look like a teenager, am in my twenties and feel like a 30 y/o on the inside (sometimes even more).
It's lots of lives, stories, problems, sorrows, broken spirits, joys, happiness... that I've gone through with hundreds of people in their life stories (I really like to listen a lot).
You just have to know when to listen, to make sure you won't repeat somebody else's mistakes and that you'll relive their joy and happiness, when it knocks on your door. Besides, I'm in the "want to find somebody to share the pleasantries and wrongdoings with" phase... so that's why. :ha:
The Hollyberry Lady

I get it Jack. We all go through our phases in life.
Last night I went to a girlfriend's birthday party, and ended up crashing there overnight and coming home early this morning. Actually got a few hours sleep there too! Must have had something to do with the wine. :ha:
Anyway Jack...good luck finding that special someone to share 'pleasantries & wrongdoings' with.
Gonna try to get to sleep tonight at a decent hour. :08:

SLEEP QUOTES...
"It is better to sleep on things beforehand than lie awake about them afterward"
"Life is something that happens when you can't get to sleep"
"To achieve the impossible dream, try going to sleep"
"People who say they sleep like a baby usually don't have one"
"Not being able to sleep is terrible. You have the misery of having partied all night... without the satisfaction"
"If you can't sleep, then get up and do something instead of lying there and worrying. It's the worry that gets you, not the loss of sleep"
"Death's brother, Sleep"
"There is a time for many words, and there is also a time for sleep" but it isn't now! :ha:
Well Jack, to continue on with our discussion...
I'm in my thirties but look like I'm in my twenties and still get asked for I.D.!!!
Funny that you said you're in your twenties but feel like you're in your thirties because I had you pegged for a really old guy when I first joined the site! :ha:
Even funnier is that on other sites where people have never seen me, they've thought I was an elderly
lady! :ha::ha:
About meeting someone...
I don't know about where you live, but a great place to meet single people here, is the grocery store! :) Plus then you can find out if she can cook, while you're at it! :ha:
It's just a great place to strike up a conversation with someone and discuss food prices and items, etc. I've had more guys try to pick me up at the grocery store, than in bars...not that I frequent them too often. Frankly, who would want someone from a bar anyway? Yuck! :(
Hoping tonight won't be another sleepless night again, but we'll see...

Holly,
Here are a few thoughts for the Insomnia.
1. Be a grazer and eat about 5-6 small meals a day.
2. Get some sort of exercise; albeit walking or something 15-20 minutes a day.
3. Before you go to bed, try to read for half an hour.
4. Have a small bowl of cereal during your "study time"
5. Try to go to sleep every night (excluding party nights) at the same time.
Maybe it will help you!

Holly,
The Drex name comes from a friend of mine I workout with at the gym. He also calls me Batman because of my abs coming through the workout shirts. And he calls me Dr.droolo
because I am always figuring out ways to deal with all the drugs I have to take for my kidney in addition to what the Drs.telling me what I can and can't do.
I feel great though. And it's great to be on this side of the earth!
Try and get some sleep. Good Night!

I said at the uni, not at the party. ;)
I, pardon me for saying it like this, don't have the time to party if I'm to master what I want to master.
It's like 1 happening (disco, meetings, no parties ;),...)/month.
Really. I meant like lunch break, breaks between lectures, during lectures...
You know, we are kids from the East, there are other bars for us to jump over than in the west. Sure, there are people who party a lot etc, but generally, they are being reduced every semester... Until the iron core of the really studying (and best) prevails. (you know, the scale is like this (from the least working to the most working) - USA, GB, France, Germany, Italy, CET, Russia/India, China...) the more to the east you go, the more work and jumping you will have to do. That's a fact (from my discussion with friends and people who have actually tried the East and the West).

I hear ya Jack...and I also have a University education, but half the time here, campus is no different than the parties! At least for the insincere bunch, that is. Usually ones whose rich parents are paying their way...in my case it was my rich grandparents! :ha:
In fact, one degree program I was looking to get into a few years back, was actually encouraging people well into their 30's to apply. It was said to me in no uncertain terms by the school program counsellor when I went to inquire, in these exact words...
"We are looking for people who are in their 30's and through their 20's bullsh*t"!!!
The program was so gruelling that you do nothing but eat, sleep, and drink it.
Due to some family obligations I would have been unable to focus 100% on the courses at the time, although my grades would have granted me acceptance. Apparently halfway through certain programs, it's not uncommon for students to drop out...even if it means losing out on half of their tuition fees!
Pretty wild.

Our schools are paid by the government per head, each student is financed for 3 years in Bc (Bc=Bachelor = BSc) and then 2 years Ing (Ingenieur = MSc) degree. You get paid for studying for the PhD (~250€/month). (there goes the "college loan" (which by the way is a pretty frick*ng ***) or whatever nonsense you in the USA and Canada have...)
If you drop out of some year (bad marks, didn't manage to collect enough credits... you pay for anyting that is above those 3+2 years, so it's not about rich parents/grandparents here, not like this).
Yeah, isles, right.
Your possible future husband, holly...
http://www.cxpartners.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/supermarket-shopping-isle.jpg
Just to conclude: degrees from economy, law, management... aren't considered very serious here. Those types of schools are commonly nicknamed "the most difficult high schools" or "the tram schools" (unless you get hit by a tram and die, you will eventually get the degree, no matter the effort).

MAKE LOVE NOT WAR! :08:
It's not about insulting, it's about discussing. :ha:
Gotta clear you on that first.
Why would we insult each other's countries? I've talked 2 hundreds of people from dozens of countries about their countries and nations recently, not one country was better than the other... they were, unfortunatelly more or less the same, just with different pros and cons.
You can actually be free, if you won't look at people through countries and nations and start judging individuals for their contribution to the society. That's when you get a not so surprising enlightenment, that people are essentialy the same wherever you look. And that's when you stop talking about nations or countries and start evaluating each person, each individual according to the amount of humanity you can see in him manifesting...
Eventually, you will find out, that insulting nations or countries is as illogical as it is pointless, untrue, ungeneral and waste of one's precious time.
Now, about the religion... :ha:

I do agree though Jack, and have found it to be true also, that people from all over the world are essentially the same. I also agree with your outlook that people should be evaluated individually and for his or her own personal contributions and deeds, either good or bad.

Beautifully spoken; thank you, Jack!

Well, here's my 2 cents...
Drink plenty of water throughout the day, it helps with getting better sleep, don't drink any water/liquids 2-3 hours before you go to bed. Avoid alcohol as this dehydrates the body and reduces the amount of rem sleep you get. Herb/Vitamins that encourage sleep are L-Tryptophan - increases serotonin and melatonin levels for deep restful sleep. A good combo is 1000 mg of l-tryptophan and 100mg 5-HTP (another form of tryptophan) with a b-complex on an empty stomach before bed.
Some people also benefit from a timed-release (under 3mg) of melatonin (makes me too groggy the next day no matter the dose). Chamomile tea, hops and valarian root teas are great at getting you to sleep quick, can also be used in combo with l-tryptophan. Some people also benefit from low dose 5mg 1-2 times a day of DHEA (only take morning and no later than 2-3 pm). Dhea is a master hormone and the body will make the appropriate downstream hormones from it that will ultimately result in better sleep. Care should be taken as this should only be taken by individuals over 40 and a dhea hormone test to determine he optimum dosage...Generally 1-5 mg is a safe dose without bloodwork.
Some people suffer from sleep apnea usually from being overweight, work on losing the weight or get on a cpap machine.

The Hollyberry Lady

Cool that you use a mister and humidifier on your plants, Cam. Certain people have made fun of me for misting my plants.
Not mentioning any names though...
BOB!!! :ha:
I bet your problems with spider mites are minimal or non-existent from keeping a moist atmosphere?
I'm sure it was a lot of work to bring them all inside. I bring mine in over time...a few plants each day. This way it's easier.
Jack, don't think I've forgot about you! Where is that deleted post? :ha:
: )
Willow87
10-28-2010, 10:13 AM
I know people always say that its just temporary solution, but to me its better than nothing lol. I have always misted my plants. I bought a humidifier to make things easier and I have to admit its really useful, I need to buy another one.
Luckily I've never seen spider mites on my plants, but I have had a problem with mealybugs, but since I have my humidifier I havent seen any pests. I need to buy some insecticidal soap too just in case I have any surprises lol. I wanted to bring mine in little by little but this frost advisory just popped up really quick, and I check the weather forecast several times a day lol
The Hollyberry Lady
10-28-2010, 10:23 AM
Cool that I can call ya Cam, Cam! :ha: Thanks for letting me know. I figured as much.
I think it's totally cool that you mist your plants! :08: If you showered them once a week with a hard spray of water, you'd never see another bug again and wouldn't ever have to put out for insecticidal soaps nor any other expensive pest preventative spray again.
I haven't for years. :goteam:
You shoud have started bringing in your plants a little earlier instead of waiting so late...but I've been known to do the same some years. Hard frost and snow is just days away for us. :(
Jack, I'm waiting...
: )
Willow87
10-28-2010, 11:02 AM
Yeah I was wanting to bring them in earlier but its been so warm lately. The day before yesterday it was 88 and I saw that it was going to be in the 40s but today they just issued the frost advisory. Last year I was able to keep my outside in November without having to worry about a frost or freeze.

Do you know the name of the plant in the lower left, the one that has long and skinny leaves? I have one of those, kept indoors, for many years now but can never keep it happy. The pot is too heavy for me and normally I'd keep it indoors. How do you take care of it during the cold season? Does yours get a lot of lights?

Hi Rae. I like seeing the snow, its kind of rare here too but I like the cold better than the Texas heat. That one is Dracenea Marginata. I have 2 pots with 3 plants in each. This is actually the second one I've grown. The first one didnt get enough light. I have the variegated one that looks similar and I just have it in a bright room and let it dry out between waterings. I have the current ones by a south facing window. I had a friend that had one that was several feet tall and she put it outside every summer. I find them a little hard to keep alive but hopefully with more light these should do better

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/2nd%20album/2.gif
I guess that's why you didn't join my Halloween thread. Hope you had a chance to check out some of the cool shots anyway.
Tomorrow night is "Devil's Night" or "Mischief night" where many people will wake up to gobs of egg smeared on their windows or cars. You just always hope you will be one of the lucky ones and that your house or car won't be hit. It's not too bad around here though and we don't ever usually have a problem.
Funny because I recall one Halloween morning going to school and seeing a bunch of cars had been hit the night before with ketchup, relish, & mustard!
I would have killed the little bastards! :ha:
So what's everyone's plans for tonight? I have to break the disappointing news to my girlfriends that I don't think I'm going to the Halloween party tomorrow night after all. We were going to go pick out and rent our costumes this evening. :(
Bet I'll hear later that it was a complete disaster anyway and I'll be glad I didn't go. Last year too, someone puked all over a couch!
: o
What's everyone making for dinner tonight? I'm having steak & onions with homemade taters and greek salad on the side. Thinking of making a huge pot of spaghetti sauce tomorrow, ladened with portabello mushrooms, to keep in my freezer for over the next few months.
Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend.

What a fancy dinner plan for Friday night, Sherry. You sound like an Iron Chef Canada and I bet you make a wonderful Greek salad. :goteam:
Plan to rest tonight since I work hard bringing in most of the plants today. I'm beat from walking up and down my deck, the only safe place for my plants.
Leftover spaghetti for dinner is not so bad a choice, is it? I used to make my own spaghetti sauce but never with portabello mushrooms. Maybe I will try making some this winter and see whether my family like it.
Cory,
Good luck with you Trigonometry study and avocado growing and have fun at your Halloween party. I'm happy to hear that you read the comments for your avocado photos.
Just so you know, Tbaleno, you are not alone. Some years back, I have to make two trips buying halloween candies. ;)
Hope everyone have a restful Friday night or party all you can if you like!!!

Hi Cam :03:
Here's some stuff about Cancer...
Characteristics of Cancer Zodiac Sign
•The crab is Cancer's ruling animal because it represents the fact that Cancerians can come out of their shell and fight but they can also hide in their shells in depths of the ocean.
•Cancer is a mysterious sign filled with numerous contradictions.
•Cancerians want security and comfort and yet they seek new adventures. They are helpful to others but can be cranky and indifferent at times.
•Cancerians tend to live in the past since they hold past events close to heart. This habit can tend to affect the Cancerians who find it difficult to let go bitter experiences and move on.
•Cancerians do not trust people easily; this lack of trust can harm them at times.
•Cancerians are deeply sensitive and easily hurt. A Cancerian can forgive but can never forget.
•One of the most endearing qualities about Cancerians is their ability to make others feel good about themselves and loved.
•Cancerians are kind, loving, intuitive, imaginative, shrewd, cautious, protective and sympathetic souls.
•Cancerians are also known to be moody, over-emotional, touchy, untidy, clingy and sometimes exhibit the tendency to wallow in self-pity.
•Cancerians dislike failure, opposition and other aggravating situations. However most prominently, Cancerians hate being told what to do!
•Cancerians make excellent businessmen because of their intuitive abilities, creative mind and their ability to predict future trends.
•Cancerians need constant support and encouragement. A Cancerian always wants to feel needed and loved more than anything else

OK Tbaleno, here's Gemini...
Gemini Characteristics....
Dual-natured, elusive, complex temperament and contradictory are terms that best describe a Gemini. Just like the sign of twins, a Gemini is capable of producing the virtue of versatility and the vices of two-facedness and flightiness at the same time. He can never ever be boring as he loves communicating and gossiping. His talk is not rubbish, rather interesting and informative. He will have lots of friends and neighbors; in fact, he will keep in touch with anyone on his wavelength. Ruled by the Mercury planet, Gemini guys often get easily bored, impatient and frustrated by things that move slowly. Basically, they are intelligent, imaginative, lively and adaptable to any situation and person.
Gemini people are very active and hence, tend to injure or infect themselves in areas like hands, arms, legs, thymus gland and upper ribs. They easily get subjected to mental distraction and hovering between alternatives. Though they feel less confident and have less faith in themselves, they are unaware about the capability of using their flexible mind in a surprising numerous ways to their benefit. With a highly flexible body, Gemini people love agile sports like gymnastics, bicycling, swimming and others. Due to their love for talking, they spend less time on eating and hence, generally stay fairly slim and fit. Belonging to a dual sign, Gemini people are chameleons, as they blend well with their environment and at the same time, stand out apart in a gathering with witty remarks and seemingly limitless knowledge.
Gemini people are very attractive when they are good, but when they are bad, they are worse than what one can expect. They love to play the game of life filled with fresh moves and continuous entertainment. Changing decisions in the mid of a race distinguishes a Gemini from the rest, as sticking to a particular decision is difficult for them. Affectionate, courteous, kind, generous and thoughtful towards the poor and suffering: a Gemini exposes these traits only when they do not interfere with their personal lives. They are smart enough to use their outward attractiveness to achieve their goals, be it unscrupulous lying, cunning evasiveness or escaping blame by contriving to put it on others.
When happy, a Gemini is honest and straightforward but when things go against him, he can sulk like a kid. Furthermore, a Gemini demands attention, admiration, energy and money, and dedication of time on him during childhood. Gemini makes a charming companion and you are lucky enough if you have a Gemini friend as he is the best person to approach for advice. Generous with his friends, a Gemini likes spending considerable time with them and loves to share everything. He judges a person by the way they treat him rather than looking into their personal qualities and traits. Often, this leads to wrong impressions, thereby leading to problems in relationships. A Gemini can be identified by a cell phone as it is the most treasured accessory for him.

You do celebrate Christmas though, right Jack?
Something like that. It is a holiday alright, so that gives me enough time to celebrate. But more than anything else, I comemorate my real ancestral heritage, from the times way before the Roman invasion to these lands - pagan celebrations (not Pagan, like worshipping Pagan gods), changing of the yearly periods, moon periods,... this kind of stuff.
The things my ancestors used to do, before the Christianity took all the dates and stuck those aritficial, nothing saying holidays onto it.
And whether you have a family dinner and put a book on a table (be it a bible or anything else), say some prayers, have a good time - that had been done centuries before any Christmas (as Christian celebration) occured.
And to make this clear, no Santa, no fat man, no imaginary land, no flying animals, no souls, no spirits, no damn pole, no Coca-Cola ads, no wishes, no lists, not anything like that. That's not Christmas, that's just a big ad.

Ok Jack, here it is...
Scorpio Astrology October 23 - November 21
Scorpio Strength Keywords:
- Loyal
- Passionate
- Resourceful
- Observant
- Dynamic
Scorpio Weakness Keywords:
- Jealous
- Obsessive
- Suspicious
- Manipulative
- Unyielding
Scorpio and Independence:
Scorpios are fiercely independent. They are able to accomplish anything they put their mind to and they won't give up. They are perfectly suited to being on their own. They are not social butterflies like some other zodiac signs and some actually prefer to live on their own that way there is never any issue of who controls what at home, they like to be in control.
Scorpio and Friendship:
Relationships with Scorpio are always complicated, just like the person, their relationships are a series of extremes, they can even be downright moody for no apparent reason. Scorpios are known for their possessiveness and jealousy but on the other hand, they are extremely loyal. Scorpios have an excellent memory and combined with an inability to let things go, they can hold a grudge against someone who did them harm forever, in fact a Scorpio rarely if never forgives and forgets. They will even go as far as get vengeance on the person. On the other hand, they will always remember a kind gesture forever and repay it. Any kind selfless gesture done to a Scorpio will gain trust and respect which is extremely important to them in any relationship, either romantic or not. The best advice is to be honest with a Scorpio friend and in return, you will gain an amazing friend you will never forget and who will be loyal to you and never make false promises. Their truthful and shocking sense of humor if different than that of any other zodiac sign and the Scorpio makes an amazing, powerful interesting friend that can be trusted.
Scorpio and Business:
Scorpios make excellent doctors, surgeons, scientists and leaders, they are perfectly suited to any form of business that makes a difference in the world, greatly impacts people and society and a most importantly, Scorpio has to be in a power position, this is why these careers are suited to the Scorpio, they all demand one person in supreme control giving orders and leading a unit of people/practices. In business, Scorpios tend to easily gather wealth, they make very wise business decisions and they are very conservative about spending their money. Scorpios are known for making money and hiding it, they will not announce it due to to fear that others will take the same route and becoming a possible competitor, or worse try to use the Scorpio to their advantage to use them for their money.
Scorpio and Temperament:
Scorpios are extremely ambitious, persistent and determined which is shown through a power hungry, controlling attitude. Not in a stubborn sense however, because a Scorpio will work for what they want and control will justified reasons. This is obvious to any onlooker. A Scorpio never gives up, they are so determined to reach their goal. The key to this success is their flexibility. They are able to re-survey a situation and take a different approach if necessary. This makes them very adaptable and versatile. Scorpios are fierce competitors, combined with their powers of observation and their excellent memory, they will recall facts and when necessary, bring them to the table at the time of need. They will win justly, with proper facts and arguments to support their thoughts and opinions. Scorpios are excellent at restoring order to a chaotic situation and they are just as capable of manipulating for their own greed and benefit. The un-evolved Scorpio is a very dangerous person because they use their powers to benefit only them and step on other people in order to satisfy their own greed.
Scorpio Deep Inside:
Scorpio is the most misunderstood of all astrology signs. They are all about intensity and contradictions. They like to be aware of a situation and always know what's going on, figuring this out with their probing mind, on the other hand, they are interested in the occult, the paranormal, conspiracy theories and other types of similar unknown mysteries. They are very capable of hiding their true feelings and motivations, they often have ulterior motives or a hidden agenda.
Scorpios are all about control, they need to be in control at all times. To be out of control is very threatening, even dangerous to the Scorpio's psyche, when they control, they feel safe.
Scorpios are very intensely emotional, their emotions are intensified, both good emotions and bad. Negative emotions of jealousy and resentment are hallmarks of this turbulent astrology sign. On the other side, Scorpios are well known for their forceful and powerful drive to succeed and their amazing dedication. Scorpios are constantly trying to understand their emotions through finding a deeper purpose in life.
Scorpios are very intuitive, but not as in a psychic sense, more as intuitive into the human mind, they have a great understanding of the mystery and the power of the human mind.
Scorpios have a fear of failure which they keep hidden extremely well, should their confrontation not be successful, or their career fail, they will simply use their adaptive skill to quickly move and and leave the bad experience behind. Do not ever expect them to fess up or share their tale with anyone however because this shows signs of weakness and Scorpio always wins, they are always the self-proclaimed best! One of the reasons they seem like they always accomplish their goals is because they set tangible short-term goals that they know they can accomplish, they know what they are capable of and this is what they go for.
Scorpios are very weary about trusting anyone, a person needs to gain their trust and this gets built up over time and once all the 'trust tests' have been passed, Scorpio loves deeply and intensely. Underneath the cool exterior, energies and emotions are constantly flowing but the Scorpio deals with this be channeling this into useful activities, hobbies, relationships or a career. This is never apparent to the outside observer but knowing this fact explains why Scorpios are so passionate about whatever it is that they are undertaking. Scorpios have powerful instincts and they trust their own gut feeling which is another reason why a Scorpio seldom fails.
The ongoing lesson in life for those born under the Scorpio zodiac signs, is to channel their powerful energy into positive goals and not succumbing to the darker forces in life such as manipulation and greed, they will then have great success in their life and have a clean, happy conscience and a circle of friends they can trust and hold dear to them.
Scorpio in a Nutshell:
Scorpio is the astrology sign of extremes and intensity. Scorpios are very deep, intense people, there is always more then meets the eye. They present a cool, detached and unemotional air to the world yet lying underneath is tremendous power, extreme strength, intense passion and a strong will and a persistent drive. Scorpios have a very penetrative mind, do not be surprised if they ask questions, they are trying to delve deeper and figure things out and survey the situation. They always want to know why, where and any other possible detail they can possibly know. Scorpio's are very weary of the games that other people try to play and they are very aware of it. Scorpios tend to dominate and control anyone that lets them, or anyone that they find weak. The person that a Scorpio respects and holds close to them is treated with amazing kindness, loyalty and generosity. On the outside, a Scorpio has great secretiveness and mystery. This magnetically draws people to them. They are known to be controlling and too ambitious but only because they need control for this makes them feel safe.

Holly, "weaknesses" from your list about scorpios and how you have to see them, once you realize what world you live in:
- Jealous agreed
- Obsessive positive
- Suspicious positive/neutral
- Manipulative definitely positive
- Unyielding don't know what that is - that's not me. ;)
Scorpios make excellent doctors, surgeons, scientistsLuckily, phew...
They always want to know why, where and any other possible detail they can possibly know (agreed). Scorpios are very weary of the games that other people try to play and they are very aware of it (once they are trained in it, everybody sees that). Scorpios tend to dominate and control anyone that lets them, or anyone that they find weak. The person that a Scorpio respects and holds close to them is treated with amazing kindness, loyalty and generosity (agreed). On the outside, a Scorpio has great secretiveness and mystery. This magnetically draws people to them (or, more usually, the other way around, ay? :ha:).

Unyielding would be endurance & steadfastness. It's kind of a good quality, or at least it can be if used that way.
Keep in mind these are only general descriptions and it can also be the way someone is only some of the time...not ALL of the time, if you see what I mean.
With Scorpio though, there is usually no grey areas, they are generally either good or bad. When you meet a bad Scorpio though, my advice is to run like hell!
Gotta go for a bit, but be back later...
P.S. Thanks about the blue moon shot, Cory. I love it too! :08:

Before I sign off for awhile, I just had to give you a friendly reminder, to mind that sharp Scorpion tongue of yours :ha: and keep it nice...
like I know you can do. ;)
There could be people from Britain on the site and we don't want to offend anyone. I'm like you though Jack, and have a lot of strong opinions and beliefs about certain things, so don't get me wrong.
However, when on a public site, we must be careful with the words we choose, so we don't offend or hurt others unnecessarily. Things can look especially bad in typed print, because people can't hear our voice or tone and fully understand what we mean, or know how to take us.
Let's just all try to be careful is what I'm saying, and let's please try be thoughtful about how we express ourselves. I am guilty of it myself so I will try to make sure I don't say anything too outrageous either.
I really want this thread to stay nice, so we might enjoy it for a long time. It could be really cool if we all practice respect and diplomacy.
I have always loved the old saying...
"Do onto others as you would have them do onto to you"
I'd like it if that rule could apply in this thread especially. No fun when things get ugly and nasty. :( Just thought it needed to be said since more and more people are joining and are continually chatting.
Thanks for your co-operation you guys! :waving:
Hope everyone enjoys their Saturday. I'll be back later...

Somebody's got to tell them about benefits of putting some layers on those bricks. Don't worry, this is not anything against the people, Ukrainians leave their houses without any external layers too (or they did a decade ago), but it's just terrible... to see a street full of houses built of old bricks.... and what I could swear is that many of those bricks even in the new houses are recycled! And they don't match the new ones in most of the cases... :ha:
Those are just strange architectonical practices.
Big colonial house in a modern house street is less of a pain, than brickhouses anywhere... anytime.
It was a trend here too at some point in the past, but most of those people were forced to/penalized by the local administrative offices, that they decided to at least paint them.

THere's only one architectonical attrocity that can actually compete with brickhouses... and it's a socialist solution to living: welcome to paradise:

Jack, as promised, here's your Chinese Astrology sign...
SNAKE...
Abstract information about the Snake:
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/2nd%20album/insomnia88.gif
The Snake (Serpent) is strongly related with deep and eternal wisdom. Snake people are always enigmatic and maybe the most wise of all Chinese Horoscope signs. A Snake usually evolves to become a philosopher, deep thinker, theosophist, magician or leader of the back scene. Snake people love learning, reading and eating good food. They are also very concerned about their outer appearance. Their best attribute is their excellent ability to communicate with others and successfully engage in interesting conversations.
Snake people love new ideas and innovative thoughts and actions, but they will usually reject advice from anyone but themselves.
People born in the Year of the Snake are deep. They say little and possess great wisdom. They never have to worry about money; they are financially fortunate. Snake people are often quite vain, selfish, and a bit stingy. Yet they have tremendous sympathy for others and try to help those less fortunate. Snake people tend to overdo, since they have doubts about other people's judgment and prefer to rely on themselves. They are determined in whatever they do and hate to fail. Although calm on the surface, they are intense and passionate. Snake people are usually good-looking and sometimes have martial problems because they are fickle.
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/2nd%20album/insomnia88-1.jpg
Told ya you couldn't keep it light, Jack!
It's not your fault, my intense & deep thinking friend! Please rave on! :ha:
My Chinese Astrological sign is Tiger. It just so happens that 2010 is the year of the Tiger...
TIGER...
Abstract Information about the Tiger:
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/2nd%20album/insomnia90.gif
The Tiger is said to be lucky, vivid, lively and engaging. Another attribute of the Tiger is his incredible bravery, evidenced in his willingness to engage in battle or his undying courage. Maybe he’s so brave because he is so lucky.
Chinese astrologers consider the Tigers (not the lions) as kings of all animals. Tiger people are usually very attractive and persuasive. You cannot resist them easily and at the same time, you cannot attract their interest unless you try hard and be sincere. They like mystery, fairy tales and stories about courage and love. They will likely spend an adventurous life triggered by their instincts and strong emotions. Another important attribute of people under the Chinese Horoscope sign of Tiger, is the fact that they like surprises and out of the ordinary situations. If you want to have a Tiger as a friend then it's up to you to make sure your friendship will last since a Tiger will generally find it hard to maintain any relationship.
People born under the sign of Tiger are sensitive, given to deep thinking, capable of great sympathy. They can be extremely short-tempered, however. Other people have great respect for them, but sometimes tiger people come into conflict with older people or those in authority. Sometimes Tiger people cannot make up their minds, which can result in a poor, hasty decision or a sound decision arrived at too late. They are suspicious of others, but they are courageous and powerful.

Funny you mentioned a Haunted House, Cory. There's one near here, but I didn't go this year. It was intended for kids and adults, but the kids got so terrified and cried until their parents took them out, that now it's mostly adults that walk through. However I admit being a little spooked myself and at a few different points...
SCARED SH*TLESS!!!
It has three levels and so you're in there for quite awhile. It's pretty dark inside and the floorboards are all creaky or loose, and "dead" people jump out at you...bats and spiders everywhere. It's really quite something. If I go next year, I'll be sure to take some pics.
Hope everyone had a great Halloween. I had fun watching horror movies and making homemade pizza.

Sherry,
Glad to hear that you got your plants inside before the frost. :)
I saw the flower pictures Tony posted in the passiflora thread and thought the flowers were very unique, something you might like to grow. Generally I prefer not to grow any vine plants because of the cons of growing them, with the exception of some squash plant I like. I also tried growing Morning Glories from seeds this year, but I don't think I will next year because of the deer and insect problems. :(
Wish you best of luck on growing passifloras!!!
Your tomatoes look great, by the way. I'm sure you are happy about the results.

Thanks Sherry, I had to show my mom the pictures of those and she was amazed. I would love some seeds. I wonder the germination success rate of those? I love that color

Love that shot! :08:
Cool that you and your mom liked my shrubs, Cam. The seeds are exceptionally viable, so if you're interested I'll send some later...
I'll check out your shots momentarily, Drew...
Here's my Christmas cactus today in full bloom...

That would be great Sherry. I need to start eating those prickly pears before they ruin lol. Your christmas cactus is beautiful! Mine isnt looking too well lol.

Thanks Cam.
Make sure your cactus isn't getting too much sunlight and that it's not over watered. I let my cactus' soil dry out completely before watering again.
I can surely send you some Beautyberry seeds.
I guess everyone is asleep already. I was just listening to some music and doing some posting...

Thanks for the info Sherry. I have it indoors in a bright area but its not getting direct sunlight and its in a small pot so it gets dry quickly. Thanks I would love to grow the beauty berry, its a beautiful plant. I wonder if it would do well in summers here lol

Wonder what's going on with your cactus, Cam?
If you can, post a shot of it? That'd be cool...
Guess you won't know if you can grow Beautyberry until you try, eh? I'll send you the seeds and you can experiment.
Great shots Drew, by the way. Your plants all look fantastic! :08:

Most of us are watching the election results I would imagine. :lurk:
Here is an informative link I found on the "holiday" (Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter) cactus - think it was what Palmtree was talking about:

It started out really healthy and lush last year and then it deteriorated this year. I'm wondering if it needs a bigger pot. I'll have to post some pics of it tomorrow. It gets salmon color blooms on it that have this faint rose smell to them. I love christmas cactus. I guess I should do research on the beauty berry shrub. I just love the berries.

Thanks Janan. That's interesting because I have been mistakenly calling mine a christmas cactus and from the diagram its a Thanksgiving cactus.

Thanks Janan. :waving:
I still believe my plant to be a Christmas cactus, but open to the possibility that it might not be.
Whatever it is, it's gorgeous! :goteam:
The pictures I've taken don't even begin to do it justice. It's just breathtaking when you're standing in front of it. I love the snow white blooms with the pink centers.
Mine's kind of root bound Cam, and has been for years, so I wonder what else could be your problem. Definitely post a shot of it soon if you can...
Here's my ripening tomatoes today, by the way...

Your welcome Cameron! We all call it Christmas cactus. It isn't our fault though - that's what 90% of our suppliers that sell them to us have them tagged. It's the little points on the leaf or stem segments that are the identifiers.
Yours is a stunning plant Sherry! Yours and Tony's are the prettiest I've ever seen. I have two salmon colored ones that have teeny little buds on them - not even close to blooming yet.

Ok I'll take one tomorrow morning. I think mine is root bound too. Its been in the same pot for 3 years. I also have a problem with my basjoo. One of the pups died. I dont know if I should repot the plant or not or if there is something wrong with the whole plant
Willow87
11-02-2010, 09:16 PM
That's true Janan. I followed what the tag said and listen to other people calling it a Christmas cactus. I want to buy another one but Lowe's didnt have any last year, which was strange. I dont have room for anymore plants anyways LOL
The Hollyberry Lady
11-02-2010, 09:18 PM
Cam, mine's been in the same pot for four years but I guess it just depends on how small of a pot yours is in. Looking forward to seeing your shots tomorrow...
A pictures says a thousand words so hope you'll show the Basjoo as well...

11-02-2010, 09:21 PM
Yeah its in a shallow 8 inch pot I think. Pieces keep falling off of it. I'll take a pic of my basjoo too
The Hollyberry Lady
11-02-2010, 09:24 PM
Oh yeah Cam, I forgot to ask...
Have you ever fertilized your cactus? Not that it's a real requirement but I do give mine some in Summer and throughout Fall. It's become very full and has many blooms each season. Sometimes it blooms in September but this year not until close to November.
The link said they bloom twice but mine only blooms once and is more like a continual bloom throughout most of winter.
I'm just totally in love with it and might make some more plants from cuttings.
: )
Willow87
11-02-2010, 09:27 PM
I've fertilized mine sporadically throughout the summer and I did a few foliar feedings. I may get some cutting from a friend. She has a huge plant that blooms throughout the year

When you say 8" Cameron...
Do you mean 8" deep, or wide?
: )
Jananas Bananas
11-02-2010, 09:33 PM
What kind of fertilizer do you use on it Sherry? I guess I should give mine a couple of shots of something if I want those teeny buds to do anything. It's a cool looking plant even without blossoms, but holy cow they are just stunning when they are in bloom! I don't think I have ever seen a white one with the pink either. ~j
Willow87
11-02-2010, 09:35 PM
Its 8 inch wide I believe. I need to get correct measurements lol
The Hollyberry Lady
11-02-2010, 09:49 PM
Thanks Janan. Mine really is special and I went to a lot of trouble to get it from a special nursery that assured me it was an authentic Christmas cactus...
but after seeing your link Janan, I am questioning whether it really is...
What do you honestly think it is, Janan? Just come right out and tell me because I don't want to be calling it a xmas cactus if it truly isn't! :ha:
I am more than willing to share cuttings with those interested. I think we were going to exchange some pepper seeds, Janan, so I can include some cuttings for you then.
I can send some for you too, Cam, when I send the Beautberry seeds. How deep is your cactus pot if it's 8" wide?
My bf would kill me for promoting Miracle Grow at all Janan, being that he is a 100% organic gardener, but the truth is, in my potted non-edible and flowering plants, I use Ultra-Bloom Miracle Grow 15~30~15!
It works like a charm for blooming plants but on my edibles and my gardens I use organic formulas.

It may be 6 inches deep. Its one of those azalea pots i think. its wider than it is deep. I take the measurements tomorrow when I take pictures.
The Hollyberry Lady
11-02-2010, 09:55 PM
It sounds ok to me, Cam, but again it depends on the size of the plant.
We'll figure out what's wrong, just post your shot tomorrow.
Going to get more ice water and some yogurt...

Ok Thanks Sherry. I just need to remind myself about taking a pic. My memory has been bad lately LOL

No worries...just whenever you get around to it, Cam. It's all cool.
I went to get some yogurt but then I remembered my mom had made homemade brownies with coacoa and homemade frosting too...with walnuts on top! ;)
Guess what I'm eating right now?! :ha:
Um, isn't there caffeine in chocolate? I'll be up the night!

I guess I am an organic gardener as well, though I am not opposed to using packaged ferts. But having horses and chickens and composting, I rarely spend the money. Really I just call myself a tightwad gardener. :ha: I think I may have a large container of Miracle Grow out in the storage building that I haven't ever opened. I may have to crack the seal on it! HA! HA!
I bought three new tomato plants when I was out today, and I happen to have broken off a branch when I had to slam on the brakes thanks to an idiot! It will be the perfect chance to start rooting one. Do you just do that in water? My Spring tomatoes were already waaaay done and fried so there was nothing left there to experiment with. ~J
The Hollyberry Lady
11-02-2010, 10:21 PM
Yes Janan, some will root in water, but some also rot...just depends on the individual cutting.
They will root in soil too but benefit from being covered until rooting actually takes place...usually in three weeks time.
Do not worry if your tomato plant's top is broken off because it will still continue to grow for you and may even end up a fuller plant because of it.
You can use any fertilizer on your cactus Janan, just make sure it encourages blooms and doesn't have tons of Nitrogen in it.
Stick to your organic stuff if that's what you're used to though. Don't let me be a bad influence on you! :ha:
