:waving:
We had Christmas dinner today at the Armory. :0521: That is really getting me in "THE MOOD" for Christmas! :ha:
Pictures Jordan! We need to see! Ha! Ha! :ha:
Cam that sunflower is beautiful - mine are all done, so I am envious. :)
Waiting for lemon tree pictures from you too Tommy!
Hello Terry, glad you could join us!
Hey, Sherry - what are you doing this evening? Need I ask, Miss iPad Lady! :ha:

Wow Janan that is great. Today we put up our Christmas tree. The past couple of years we didn't put one up but my sister wanted to have one for this year. I may cut the flowers from my sunflower and bring them indoors so I can enjoy them. I wonder if the unopened buds would still open up?

I don't know Cam. What can it hurt to give it a try?
I'm glad you put your Christmas tree up. I love looking at it all lit up - it makes me happy. I put mine up the day after Thanksgiving. Sometimes I can't wait and put it up Thanksgiving evening. :ha: I leave it up until January 2nd.

My dad put up our Christmas tree today :) Saved me the trouble of helping ;) :ha::ha::ha:
My aunt and uncle are wanting my to go to ABC Warehouse tomorrow and pick out my Birthday present or something. I was thinking of picking out myself a cheap little camcorder or camera. My camcorder I have now is not working very well and I need a new one anyways.

"iPad Lady"...:ha: Too funny! You know me well, Janan. :waving:
That thing is the best toy I ever had. :goteam:
Yup I just got home. I was out with a friend and we had a game of scrabble on my iPad in their car, before I went upstairs to my apartment. My friend thought it was just way too cool.
Ok so I was out today but I will spend tomorrow getting the bulbs ready to send off...and more seeds. I was able to buy some strong little boxes yesterday to mail the bulbs in so they don't get broken. I will also write "fragile" all over the box so they make it to you guys in one piece. No worries. You are gonna enjoy using them, I'm certain. :D
Gonna post a shot of my new purple purse I was telling you about Janan, in the girly thread...

When my dad was alive, we put up our Christmas tree after Thanksgiving dinner. We bought some LED lights today and used those on the tree and they look much better than the regular ones. One day my mom and sister want to put up lights outside. I'm going to cut those sunflowers tomorrow. It won't hurt to try because the freeze may kill them
The Hollyberry Lady

I've been decorating a little bit here and there. Today I got this beautiful LED church that lights up. It's about a foot and a half tall and I have it in one of my windows for Christmad. It's too nice. Maybe I'll try to get a shot of it soon.
Gotta go for a bit but be back later with some more pics...

I absolutely love the look of the LED lights too, Cam! Eventually I will have all my lights replaced with them, but I have to do it a little at a time because I have a LOT of lights! :ha: That's right - they will freeze anyway so you can see if it works then we will all know!
Me know YOU Miss iPad Lady? NAH!!! :)
Ohhh a warehouse store, Jordan? That sounds like fun! What kinds of things do they have? Do they have plants and animals also?
Willow87
12-04-2011, 09:36 PM
That sounds very pretty Sherry. I put up all LED lights for a friend. Her regualr lights always blew out so she replaced every single one with LED. They are kind of expensive but I guess they pay for themselves with the energy savings
Jananas Bananas
12-04-2011, 09:42 PM
EXACTLY! That's why I am replacing mine. I have very high electric bills in December. I have all my lights on timers so they come on at dusk and go off at sunrise - so they are on all night long.
I did find some really cute solar lights this year that are red and white candy cane striped. The light part was just the regular white, but I put some red cellophane down inside so I changed them to all red. It could work with any lights too, and cellophane comes in a lot of Christmassy colors. And they don't cost me anything to have on! :ha:

It's not really a warehouse store. ABC warehouse is just the name of it. It is like a BestBuy with lesser and more expensive stuff. They do have a large number of cameras and camcorders though. It's mostly house wares and large stuff. Like washers and stuff.
My Birthday is December Eleven, this Sunday. :) Gonna be 16 :D

Here's a picture for you Jordan!

He was in my bathtub last night. Kind of late in the year, but I guess the weather has brought them roaming again. Had a couple of baby June bugs too that I forgot to get a picture of for the Critters thread!

Very cool :)
If I had stuff like that wild around here I would need for tanks to put them all in :ha::ha::ha: They would all be m,y pets ;)
I have pictures of some water falls from around here and of a dam to post. Will get them posted soon :)

Didn't you tell me you had a pet Scorpion? Does it glow under a black light? These brown ones do. I think that is very interesting.

12-05-2011, 01:07 AM
Wow, cool pic Janan!
My mom's birthday is Desember 9th. We're thinking of going to the theatre to see a play.
So I've been busy all weekend but hope to have more time this week.
I like LED lights too because they last so long. I must say though that I'm disappointed in their version of white because most of them either have a blue-ish or a yellow-ish hue...never a clean, clear, and crisp white.
I really enjoy those little battery operated light sets of 20 on a string. You can put them anywhere and they have built in timers of 18 hours off and 6 hours on. They come on each night at the same time and they last about three weeks before you have to change the batteries again.
I'll have to show you guys my mini poinsettia tomorrow. Too cute.
Yes Cam, the LED church is really great and they only had one left. It even has angels at the top of the church, blowing into trumpets. I'll show you guys soon.
Hope everyone has a great sleep. G'night.

I think that is what I really like about the LED white lights, the one with the bluish cast. It's very calming to me.
Are you going to bed or are you still up?

We put up the LED lights that have the bluish glow. I really like them. I would be terrified if I saw a scorpion, the first time I saw one up close was at a friends house last year. It was in her kitchen sink lol

Morning Cam! They are thick as thieves here in Central Texas. The drier it is the more you will see while they hunt for water. I had them in East Texas too though I didn't see nearly as many. That is typically the kind I find. This latest one was very large for that type at just shy of 4 inches. They are usually about 2 to 2 1/2 inches. I am surprised you haven't seen them around there though! :ha:
Willow87
12-05-2011, 12:11 PM
Good morning Janan. There probably are some around here but I have been fortunate not to see any lol. I did find several snakes in my yard this year but they were the harmless variety. I've also seen some very big spiders. I found a pair in one of my pots, one was all red and the other one was purple and white.

Hi you guys!
Hope you're all having a great Monday. I'm just reading that iPad guide and thinking about what to make for dinner.
Jordan, what do you do if some of your stuff you bought in the app store or from iTunes, is lost? I can't retrieve some of my movies on my iPad and some of my mom's songs are lost on her iPod. Should we contact Apple and let them know?
Did you guys see my mini poinsettia?
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/3rd%20album/IMG_3260.jpg
It's only 6" tall...

Cute as a button. ;)

jreidsma
12-05-2011, 06:15 PM
What do you mean "lost"? Are the items still on your itunes account on your computer?
If you mean they just disappeared from ipad and computer then a contact from apple would be a good idea. You will be lucky if you can get a hold of them though, I never can.
That is a very cute plant :)
The Hollyberry Lady
12-05-2011, 07:17 PM
I see that they are on my computer but I gotta get them on my iPad now too.
Thanks about the plant. It's so tiny!
Ok I have the bulbs packed up. Now I'm doing the seeds. Likely bring everything to the post office by tomorrow. What will you guts grow under the bulbs?

All you should need to do is plug the ipad in and it will sync the videos onto it. Maybe also you need to check and make sure it is set to upload them onto it. On the itunes screen with your ipad make sure on there.
You not talking to me about the AG bulbs right? I am confused.... :ha:
I saw a bunch of poinsettias at the stores around here. The tiny ones are cute but I passed on them.

Did you see my new fish Grumpy? I bought several this weekend since we have been talking so much about them. (In the pet thread)
The Hollyberry Lady
12-05-2011, 08:52 PM
I did have them synced together I thought but maybe not. Thanks Jordan. I'll connect them again now.
I'm playing Wheel of Fortune on the iPad right now! :ha: Beating the pants off the computer on medium level. :08:
Yes, you are included in the list of bulb people Jordan. :ha: I bought a few extras so I could share with you guys and a couple family members too. You screw them into your desk lamp, like Janan clarified. ;)
Ok so what are your plans for your birthday, Jordan? What will you do?
: )
The Hollyberry Lady

jreidsma
12-05-2011, 09:00 PM
I have my left over lamp waiting ;) :ha: I remember now, I am going to use the bulb you send me on the dragon fruit Jana sent me :) Maybe that will be enough light for them to fruit indoors. I am really looking forward to hopefully getting fruit indoors :D That would be pretty cool :D
My moms side of the family is having mine, and my aunts birthday party Friday. And then Saturday I am having some friends over :) Than Sunday, on my actual birthday, I will make up something to do maybe. I don't know what I am doing on my birthday.
Hope your ipad syncs ok :)
I picked out my camera my aunts getting me a couple hours ago :) I picked a nice looking slim one that can take up to ten minute long, HD videos. It will be replacing my camcorder, as camcorders are too expensive. So a decent camera will work in its place ;) And if it takes picture pretty good I might use it instead of my dads $300 one :)
I was hoping I could pick a different color, but all they had was one and it was black I think. Which is ok :)
Jananas Bananas
12-05-2011, 09:15 PM
Sherry I put pictures of them in the pet thread. I have only named one so far and that is Grumpy. You will see why when you look at his picture. That name may change, but we'll see. :ha:

I can't wait to see them Janan. I'm gonna ask at PetSmart if they have them or can get them. I need some kind of pet...but not another bird yet. Maybe next year because I'm far from being over Henry.
I got the bulbs wrapped up in the box and today I'm packaging up the seeds to go in the boxes as well. So excited for you guys to grow stuff under these bulbs. It'll be so fun.
Hope you're are having a great Tuesday.

I came home today to my dad already home, which startled me. And he explained that my grandma had just fell off her house onto her head. She broke/fractured her neck and pieces of her back (We think that's what is broke). She is in surgery that we know of now and they are trying to save her.
What news to come home to......

Jordan thats terrible! I 'm so sorry to hear about that. I hope she makes a quick recovery. I'm sorry that I havent been posting much on here. Janan I saw a picture of your bettas, they are beautiful. It was also very sweet of you to send Sherry that beautiful bulb with Henry painted on it. You are very talented

Oh my goodness Jordan, I hope your grandmother is going to be alright. Poor lady. What was she doing on the roof?!
Please let us know how she makes out. We'll pray for her recovery of course. Sounds like she hurt herself pretty badly. It makes me want to call my own grandmother and make sure she's ok...
You must be real worried Jordan. We all feel for you...and your grandma. :(
I went to visit my brother's grave today but I didn't see any deer at all. Not this time anyway. We had this on the grave for the fall...

We took down the cross and replaced it with the new Christmas wreath I got for him for the season, and for winter. It's full of berries and can be seen from a distance...

I guess they also have a brain surgeon in there also. They might be in surgery all night...
She was cleaning off their roof or something. The neighbors looked over and she wasn't there so they went over and heard her on the ground.
She will most likely be paralyzed, we are hoping she would at least be able to move her arms and head. She loves family and it would just be terrible if she couldn't move anymore.
Sounds like everything's about to go downhill again around here. Hope nothing else happens. :(
The Hollyberry Lady
12-06-2011, 05:26 PM
Wow Jordan...such terrible news. :( I'm so sorry.
Try to be strong for your grandma. She's gonna need you. Good thing she has such a terrific grandchild. ;)
So is this your dad's or your mom's mother?

She's on my dads side.
I don't even know where they are right now. They might still be in south Carolina, or they might be in Michigan. I don't know....
Willow87
12-06-2011, 06:05 PM
That would be terrible Jordan, but like Sherry said, you have to be strong for her. Sherry that berry wreath is beautiful, I really need to visit my dad's grave one day. Its been over a year since me and my family have visited him. For some reason I kept thinking about him yesterday, I guess its because of the holidays
The Hollyberry Lady
12-06-2011, 06:28 PM
Thanks, Cam. ;) I love berries and when I saw a wreath full of them I thought it was so pretty. It will show up really well on the grave when it has snow on it.
I'm sure you're anxious to visit with your grandma Jordan, once you figure out where she is. She's gonna need lots of rest when she gets home.
So I'm just hanging out making dinner.

Very cool looking tree :)
They can't operate on my grandma until her blood starts clotting right or something. Which might be 8AM in the morning. They have to remove two of her vertebrate and a bunch of other stuff.
My dad might have to fly down there to where she is. One of the Carolina's.... I don't remember which....
We have our tree up but I cant look at it. My eyes are really sensative to light.

Oh Jordan I am so sorry about your Grandmother. Do you have any updates yet?
Cam your tree is beautiful!!! The decorations look perfect to me. You need to put that picture in Sherry's Christmas thread.

Have to go take a few pictures, then I'll be back to post.

She did good through the surgery, so hopefully she will be ok.

Just found out that they had to stop the surgery because she was bleeding too much. They are going to finish the surgery next week sometime. She is ok though, passed out still I think.

I've been back at the video games again. But taking a break today. I had a scare at work yesterday. I came in and my badge didn't work to let me into the area I sit. And my name was removed from my mailbox.
I've been told nothing to worry about. They were re-doing security to certain areas and doing re-organizing of the mailboxes. I'm still a little dubious about it, but I'm just going to mellow out and hope for the best.
I have pretty much no money right now and don't get paid until next friday. I told my son that he may not get any good Christmas presents until after Christmas so he shouldn't get his hopes up. I really need a better paying job. But at least I have one and I'm thankful for that. And at least in my company there is a lot of room to grow.
Oh, my wife asked what I wanted for Christmas and I said a few containers so I can transplant my cactus and banana tree, and some soil. So I am going to be pretty cheap to buy for this year.

Sorry to hear about these hard times, maybe the economy will settle out and get better soon :)
I am planning on using the money I get from Christmas and my birthday to buy a Playstation 3 and then I have been saving up for a little while to get myself a raspberry pi computer. They are about the size of a credit card.

Hi gang! :waving:
Great shots, Jordan! :08: Thanks for sharing. How's your grandma doing?
That micro computer sounds like it would hurt my eyes! :ha: Will you be squinting to see the screen? Sheesh, and I thought my mom's iPod was small.
Love your tree, Cam. Nice of you to show us too. ;)
I was just having a game of tetris on the iPad and loading a couple pics. How's everyone doing. Ready for Christmas?
My mom has had some trouble with her bunny so I've been unexpectedly busy with her this week. At one point she thought she was gonna have to put him down! He's ok now though.
Thought I'd pop in and say hi. :)

Oh and too funny Tom about the video game addiction. My mom is the same way. She's hooked on this one computer game right now called "Bejeweled" or something like that. She called me one night at 2 am to tell me she's nearly collected all the badges. I didn't know what the heck she was talking about of course and I was half asleep, so I said "congratulations" and we hung up. :ha:

So I was just watering and feeding my thousand plants this morning. What are everyone's weekend plans?
Did I mention that we have snow now?! Yup. Just a little, but it's here. I suppose it's nice for Christmas.
I was gonna get a shot of some peppers this morning and a couple other things too...

Morning! :waving:
Cleaned out an AG this morning. I put only lettuce in it. I want some fresh salad this winter, so I thought I would try all seven pods in lettuce. We'll see how that works! :) I think I might do the same thing with strawberries, if I can ever get them to bearing size! SIGH!
Don't feel bad Sherry - I thought the same thing. A credit card size screen! :ha:
I have a couple more Thanksgiving cactus that have opened and showing their colors. I will try to get a few shots later today. I am so glad I bought these last year. The only colors Lowe's are selling this year is pink and red. I am hoping one is yellow - I still don't have that color showing! I really wanted to buy a big yellow one this year but I guess that is out of the question now. Oh well, I will eventually - I can always order one online if I have to.

Hi Janan! :waving:
So you were imagining Jordan squinting as well, to look at a tiny little micro screen and trying to type! :ha: How ridiculous.
So I took a couple shots but they turned out horrible so I have to re-do them...

Hi Sherry!
Yes, I was. I thought man that can't be good for the old eyeballs!!! :ha:
I'm loading a few shots right now.
I cleaned and re-started another AG and put nothing but strawberry seeds. We'll see how that one goes! :ha: I've got one more that I think I will redo. It may be just tomatoes. I am going to need tomatoes for all that lettuce. :) I am just thinking of ways that will be the most useful. The Table and the MicroToms should work out well together.
The Hollyberry Lady
12-10-2011, 03:11 PM
Sounds good Janan. The strawberries should do well in there.
I'm still working on taking some better shots. Looking forward to seeing your pics too. ;)
I was thinking the same think about Jordan's little computer and thinking he'd need a magnifying glass to see the screen! :ha:
I'll try to post shortly in the dinner thread too.

Well they SHOULD do well in there, but they haven't yet for me. :( I just keep trying though! I'm hardheaded and just keep on trying until I have just pooped out on something. Those darned strawberries just WON'T win!!!
I just posted in the dinner thread too. I have a couple more shots to put in there too, but I like you to put something in between mine. :)

Hi everyone. I got part of my xmas present today. I got a beautiful braided lucky bamboo plant and a small Italian Stone Pine. I'm probably going to bring the pine indoors when we get bitterly cold temperatures, but its outside right now

I have part of my present early because its a plant and my mom wanted to finish christmas shopping this weekend. I still have another present that I will open on Christmas day. Here are a few pictures of the Lucky bamboo and the Italian Stone Pine. The pine was only $3 and pretty healthy. I may try creating a bonsai but I don't have any experience with bonsai. Its worth a try lol.

Great Pine, Cam. Love the Bamboo also. ;)
I'm not as into Christmas as I usually am most years. Sucks without Henry around. :(
I tried to re-do the shots I screwed up on but the phone kept ringing and I couldn't get to them. I wanted to take a shot of the Jade flowers because they're now blooming. Remember I told you about them Janan...a few weeks back? Bob told me they'd be white, but they're not! Can't wait to show you...they're adorable.
Making dinner now...

Yes Sherry I do remember you telling me about the Jade. What color are they? Hurry up with dinner!!! Take pictures between bites!!! :ha:

They're pink!!! I can't show them until tomorrow though because they're in a spot that can't easily be reached. Once daylight hits, I can zoom in.
I'll get some shots of a few other things tonight if I can though. I'd like to show the many gifts you sent me Janan.
I'm planning for Monday...to send off the parcels. Sorry, but I just got busy at my mom's with her bunny, Janan & Jordan. I didn't forget about you guys though and the bulbs are packed well in the little boxes I got. Don't laugh when you see them.

I wish I could help you with your Christmas cheer Sherry. In previous years especially after my dad passed away I wasn't in the Christmas spirit. I miss Henry too, he was such a smart and cute bird. Thanks Janan, I've never seen them as lush either and this one was from Lowes lol. A lot of them were yellowing so I picked through several and I spotted a nice healthy one. I have an Oriental theme to my room so I wanted to add a plant that could tolerate low light. I love the Stone Pine but I don't have any ornaments small enough for it. It came with a stake that has Merry Christmas on it, so I put that in it lol
The Hollyberry Lady

Thanks Cam! ;)
Yeah, I know you guys all love Henry and miss him too. Poor little guy. He would be perched on my shoulder right now if he was here, gently pecking at the side of my face and making me turn to face him for kisses! He'd even make a kiss sound as he pressed his tiny beak right up against my lips. It was utterly adorable. What a little character he was. I miss him bad.
So I was loading and posting some shots. It's sunny out today and the pics are much nicer when it is.

Yeah Cam I've been watching movies a lot lately too, on my iPad.
You're right, it is hard to get into the xmas spirit when you've lost people you love. I know just how it feels. :(
Glad you like my Venus Flytrap plant, Cam. :D Hopefully I can keep it going for awhile. I just can't believe how much it's growing right now. It sure is happy.
Think I'm gonna go Christmas shopping tomorrow. I got my mom a gorgeous HD 40" Sony television for Christmas but she got it a couple weeks back. I just have to shop for a few friends still.
I really don't need or want anything for Christmas this year. I have everything. I want things that money can't buy.
Gonna get the Christmas groceries on the 19th or 20th, so stuff will be fresh. Definitely cooking a turkey this year with all the fixings. :ha: Don't think we're gonna do too much baking though for xmas. I ate like a queen at the cottage and it's time to cut back. I like staying slim, even if it means sacrificing. I'm not gonna gain weight over Christmas.

Yeah that Venus fly trap is very cool! I have bought several, but killed them pretty quick.
I do have some good sprouting news. I noticed I finally have a Cherimoya seed sprouting. I had given up on those dang boogers! And a dwarf pomegranate also. I'll take some pictures in the morning.

I also have a PS2, and two PS1's. I have all the game systems from Atari to now (except xbox 360 and PS3, but will probably have both soon) I think.
I like the Final Fantasy games. Final Fantasy 13 is out for the PS3 and I will probably rent some games for a while before buying any. I am also planning on getting Naruto ultimate ninja generations and a bleach game I found. Maybe Call of duty Black Ops. I am also planning on getting a game card and buying Blade Kitten from the online store.
The PS3 can play bluray DVD's also, and has some online games to play and everything.

Stocking stuffers are cool. I'm gonna get a few of those iTunes giftcards for stockings.
I also would like to find a matching scarf and mitten set to go with my new purple coat. I picked up a 2nd nice pink Columbia coat too but it has built in gloves attached to the sleeves so I won't need any for that one. I sure hope I can get some sleep tonight. These new people moved in below me a few weeks ago, and last night at 2 am they were having a ripping fight. It woke me right out of sleep and it went on for 2 hours! I decided to let someone else call the police because I'm tired of always being the one.
Anyway, someone finally did call the police but when they arrived and banged on their door, they didn't even answer! The police banged for an hour but no one ever opened up.
Then today before I went out, I heard them at it again! It was brief but they were screaming at each other.

Thanks, Cam. I really like it too.
It's rainy and sucky here today. Going out later this afternoon...with my umbrella. :ha:
Wow, Christmas is right around the corner now! I'm nearly ready.
My mom's is trying to find a pair of winter boots that have good support in them so we're gonna go shopping for them this evening. I already have my winter boots but I'm looking for a purple scarf.
We've been lucky with hardly any snow. I love it. :D

Good morning everyone. I got another amaryllis today lol. It was 50% off since most had bloomed in the boxes. I currently have 4 different types. Me and my mom and sister went to game stop at the mall and it was very very crowded there. Its an outdoor mall

Good Morning!
You'll have to show us your Amaryllis plants, Cam. They sound lovely.
So I have a new pet now! :goteam: It's not a fish or a new bird though. I wasn't ready for another bird yet. I'll post shots in the pet thread shortly...
Who's around today?

Its a variety called BestSeller. Its a raspberry color amaryllis. All of the amaryllis plants were 50% off. I wonder what new pet you have:goteam:

I love your little froggies. I had one of those several years ago, but he disappeared. Me and my sister would always fight over his name. She called him "Kermit" and I called him "Frogger" I think my new amaryllis has a flowerbud peeking out of the bulb

I like the colored stones too...
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/3rd%20album/IMG_3455.jpg
People were buying them like crazy and one lady told me she already had some but was back for more! She's part of the reason why I got them because she said they are terrific and fun to watch. She's had her little guys for a year already and got another kit for her and her niece!
The kits are 40 bucks and then 5 bucks for a year's supply of food. In the new year, I'm going to transfer my frogs into a much bigger container with more things in it so they won't be cramped and bored.
I bet you're excited about your Amaryllis buds about to bloom, Cam. I used to grow them all the time and loved them. I still have one but it hasn't bloomed in a while. It just doesn't get the light that it used to but one day I will make it bloom again. It's called "Charisma".

I know they are very popular here. But I haven't seen them for sale anymore at Petsmart. All of my amaryllis plants haven't gone dormant. I had a few planted in the yard but I dug them up because I didn't want to take a chance of losing them, though one woman around here leaves hers in the ground all year long. I'm going to look for St. Joseph's lily amaryllis because its the most cold hardy one. I think it can be grown outdoors to zone 6
The Hollyberry Lady
12-18-2011, 06:07 PM
They've never sold the frogs at our PetSmart stores. Only Green Earth sells them here.
I've never seen that cold-hardy Amaryllis Cam...what color is it?
: )
Willow87
12-18-2011, 06:11 PM
The Petsmart around here sells some pretty black and green aquatic frogs sometimes. The St. Joseph's lily is red with a white stripes down the middle of each petal. The petals are more narrow than the other amaryllis. There is a yard near me that has a whole flowerbed of St. Joseph's lily and its breath taking every time I see it. One day I want to get some courage and ask the people for a bulb. I saw some online and they are $20 a bulb, because its an heirloom amaryllis
The Hollyberry Lady
12-18-2011, 10:08 PM
Sounds beautiful, Cam. You should ask for a bulb. The worst thing they'll say is no.
I think I've seen other little frogs at PetSmart too, but not these ones. They're so tiny. I guess you can't handle them because they'll die. I'm gonna look at other aquariums tomorrow and a hidey house.

I think the little aquariums they send them home in are pathetically small. I feel guilty, like it's cruel to keep them in such a small area to live out their days. Not my frogs!
I doubt it will be 10 gallons Cam, but I'll get them something a lot bigger than what they've got now.
Also too, they said I only feed them 2 pellets each, 2 days a week! I feel like I'm starving the poor little guys! How can they survive on just 2 tiny little pellets on Saturdays and Tuesdays?! It doesn't seem like enough but they told me over-feeding can kill them!
What did you feed your, Cam?

Morning Gang!
Everything is relative Sherry. You have to imagine how tiny their little stomach's are. Did you ever dissect those large frogs in Biology class? Remember how small the stomachs were in those big ones? A lot of animals only eat every few days too. :) You don't want to feed them so much they explode from the inside! Aren't they like the size of your thumbnail? An ant would be a holiday feast for them.
The Hollyberry Lady
12-19-2011, 11:38 AM
Wow, I guess I didn't realize, and thought they might be hungry.
Also too though...how do I make sure they each get two pellets? I've had pets in the past that were greedy and tried to steal the other guy's food! :ha:
Ok then, so two pellets a week it is. They're due for some tomorrow.

Hi guys!
I was at PetSmart today and I got a bigger aquarium for my little froggies. It's a 2 and 1/2 gallon one with a lid. They sell the little frogs there too I guess but not in the kits like Green Earth does.
I found out some better information from PetSmart though than I got from Green Earth. Apparently I can feed them daily but just a little bit. I got them some dried bloodworms too!
I'll show the stuff soon...
Did you see my new bowl?

Yeah, they were helping hands in the movie! They kept Sarah from falling down the hole or they slowed and stopped her fall. If you haven't seen the movie though I am sure that makes no sense! :)
I don't hate it.......are the hands life size? I am undecided. If they are life size I think it might give me shivers. I think I have had too many nightmares where hands are trying to grab me.

You gotta love the pink and purple castle! :ha:
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/3rd%20album/IMG_3508.jpg
Yes, the hands are life-size and the bowl is really super large. There's something about it though that I find appealing. Some of the hands are small however like a child's hands. It's a pretty unusual and different kind of thing to have so I couldn't resist.
You guys have no ideas on what to use it for, huh? Ok then, I guess a fruit bowl.
I haven't seen that movie Janan but it sounds cool.
Sucks about the dreams though. I have nightmares often too where someone is chasing me and trying to get me.
Ever had a recurring dream...the same dream over and over again?
So what are you guys up to tonight?
I thought my frogs were listless because they were all motionless on the bottom of the container today, but tonight they're swimming and jumping around everywhere. I guess they're nocturnal.

I can't think of anything unless you could make it a pool or a fountain since it is so big. You could fill it with water and a tad bit of blue coloring would look real pretty. Change the food coloring to fit the holidays or your mood. Fill it with beautiful Christmas balls for a centerpiece. Fruit would go bad before you could eat it if you fill it up! :ha:
They are kid movies Sherry! Very enjoyable at least I think. I love kid movies though and pretty much all Disney and such. Fantasy movies are my very favorite. :)
Very cute hidey castle!

My mom thought I got the bowl for my frogs to live in! :ha:
I enjoy children's movies too Janan...but I especially love cartoons. Bugs Bunny and Friends are my favorite and I even have them on my iPad!
Yes, I thought the hidey castle was too adorable, Janan. I just hope the little froggies like it. Do they need an area where they can come up out of the water? I gotta do some more research I guess.
I only meant that if I used the bowl for fruit, it would be just to sit my bananas, oranges, or apples in, but not to necessarily fill it up. ;)
I was thinking it would make a nice bird bath someday, but I already have one. Then I thought I could set a vine type plant in it, to allow it to drape itself all over the hands. I suppose there are a lot of things I could use it for. I could even paint it!
: )
Jananas Bananas
12-19-2011, 08:05 PM
The Dark Crystal I think is a Jim Henson movie. It was all puppets. Labyrinth had real people and puppets. David Bowie is really neat in it. If you enjoy children's movies you would probably like them both.
It would make a great bird bath sitting on one of those large pedestals.
I like the drapey vine type plants idea, that would be really nice. I kinda like the rawness of it without paint, but it would probably look nice painted also.
The Hollyberry Lady
12-19-2011, 08:25 PM
I like the raw and natural look of it too, Janan. Doubt I'll paint it.
I just fed my two frogs and they were getting aggressive with each other. Not sure if both of them got something, or just one. One was trying to bite the other one's foot!
I was told they're a community frog and like to live in groups. I might get a couple more later. Hopefully these ones will get along.
You don't think one would kill the other?! Frogs aren't like that, are they? I really don't know much about them.
I've got the bowl packed away. I really bought it for my new place...wherever that ends up being.
I guess I should name the frogs soon. :ha:

Sherry I really don't know much about frogs so I can't be of any help. I would find the technical name of them and Google it. I'm sure that would help. If one is too aggressive over the other you may have to separate them until you get them in the larger container.
The Hollyberry Lady
12-19-2011, 08:43 PM

I will definitely make sure Janan because that's something I'm concerned about. One looks bigger than the other and he's the one that's aggressive.
They've settled down now and are not attacking each other.
I'm gonna have fun setting up the new aquarium. Hope they like it. I might get a Betta fish, Janan! :goteam: Gonna wait until Friday though when I go back to the stores one last time. I'll try to get a pretty one.

Sorry Janan but I've been busy setting up that aquarium. I've nearly got it going!!! :goteam:
I'm gonna run it tonight for the first time and keep it going. It says it's best to wait 24 to 48 hours before adding anything living. I want to do this right and don't want to kill my little frogs before they even have a chance so I might wait a day or even two before I introduce them to their new pad.
Truth be told, I bet Jordan's just busy playing all those games he bought with that giftcard I got him for his birthday! :ha:
Omg, I now have to go get the bamboo plant out of the container the frogs are in, and I'm afraid! Not really afraid but just nervous. I can't have my hands touch their water, to pollute it even more! I hate that they have to stay in that stagnant water a couple more days but I don't want to risk killing them altogether. I hope there won't be a gaping hole when I take the plant out. How nerve racking.
Yeah, I'm pretty disgusted with Green Earth, Janan. Imagine even calling themselves "Green Earth" and keeping the poor little frogs in these conditions! The almighty dollar is more important than the quality of thier little lives. It's not right. Glad my frogs won't be living like that. :D

I remember the Neverending Story too. I haven't seen that movie in years. Sherry when you said that your frogs were nocturnal, my little froggie did the same thing. I can' t believe your frogs were fighting. I had some fish a few years ago called Green Terrors. I put 2 in a 29 gallon tank and I rarely saw them. They only came out during feeding time, anyways one kept picking on the other until he died. I saw them all in a community tank and I thought they would be peaceful to their own kind but I was wrong. The bully fish ended up jumping out of the tank, when I found him he was shriveled up. I put him back in the water and that revived him for a little while but he didn't have energy to swim. I was so sad because I lost both fish.

I'm back everyone :)
Sorry to disappoint, but I was sick again, then had two migraines on top of that :(
Ok Sherry, what do you need help with? I have set up quite a few tanks :ha:
If that is a three gallon tank, just make sure not to get too much. Don't want it staying constantly dirty and the PH level messing up all the time. The PH for those frogs you have needs to be as close to 7 as possible I think. They are a bit pickier then others are.
I hate the idea of betta cubes and other very small containers. Unless used for shows and they are only in there for a very, very short time.
Don't know if you already got the other frog and fish, But I would personally stick with just the two frogs for a week or so then get the betta. And maybe stick with only two frogs at first to see how clean the tank stays. It shouldn't hurt to put the betta in soon though. As long as you monitor the PH a bit closer. You do have a PH kit right? They are only about $5 and are a necessity for fish keeping ;)
I didn't read all of the pet thread, but skimmed some of it :)
One thing you need to watch is the depth of the water for the frogs. They have to go up to the top every once and a while. Your tank doesn't look very deep though.
Hope everyone is having a nice day :)
tbaleno

I should stay up and see if can get a look at them in their new tank. I'm sure as soon as they are in there your camera is going to come out ;)

Jordan I'm so sorry to hear you were sick. I hope you are feeling better? I looked at the forecast and there is a chance for rain and snow on Christmas Eve, but it depends on how cold we get here. I can't wait to see your frogs in their new home
The Hollyberry Lady
12-21-2011, 07:39 PM
I knew you'd know a lot Jordan. Sorry you were sick! :(
Ok I will maybe forget the third frog for now but just get the one Betta...will that be cool?
The tank is actually twice as deep as what you see in my pics because I'm only showing half of it. How tall would you say it is Janan? A foot and a half maybe.
Is it ok to put them in the new tank tonight, Jordan? It'll be 24 hours that it's had to cycle. Is this enough? I used bottled spring water to fill the tank...3 gallons.
: )
The Hollyberry Lady
12-21-2011, 07:44 PM
Too funny, Tom! :ha: Yup, you know me well. The camera will be out as soon as they drop.
I'm still worrying about transferring them because I was told they can jump away!
I'm totally excited about it too, Cam. They are really funny sometimes. Earlier when I was feeding them, one of them was on his back with his legs up in the air, like he was playing dead. The other one fills himself with air and floats to the top. It's hysterical. They're very active tonight.
Do you think they'll be shocked to see the new tank?
: )
jreidsma
12-21-2011, 07:47 PM
You can't really cycle anything without having some sort of ammonia in it. So if you put the frogs in now then they would be a source of food for the bacteria that are needed for aquariums. The bacteria eat ammonia and help keep the tank clean and are a vital part of every aquarium.
Really a bottle of instant cycle of what ever its called would be a good idea also, but I think it is rather expensive.
I would put the frogs in when you are ready to, as long as the water is around 7 PH. And then just check the PH once a day or so until it stays around 7 without you having to do anything. Then PH checking wouldn't become a everyday thing.
In a tank that small just putting them in and doing like above should be good enough for it to cycle. And if you are monitoring the PH and water it should be fine.
I am going by what I do for fish, don't know exactly about aquatic frogs. But I am guessing they should be about the same.
Don't take everything pet stores tell you as true right away ;) I have been lied to many times by big chain stores. But usually small family or local owned stores are better.
You do have chlorine remover right? If you don't have chlorine remover and didn't use it in the tank you just set up I would wait a day or two, maybe a bit longer. Chlorine would burn their lungs and kill them.
The Hollyberry Lady
12-21-2011, 07:58 PM
Thanks Jordan, because I can be gullible and too trusting sometimes, only to find out later that I was told a bunch of Horsesh*t!
So I guess I need to get some kind of test kit? Should I test the water first before I add them? This would mean I'd have to wait, but I don't mind if it's better for them. How bad can it be though, compared to what they're in? I feel so guilty that they're in there.
Ok the small one is called Finley and the fat one is called Filbert! :ha:
If anyone laughs, I will kill them! ;) Who knows what to name a frog!

Ok so you need a bottle of chlorine remover that is safe for fish and frogs. Which should be what ever is good for fish because those are aquatic frogs anyways. Something like this:

That's what I use, it is usually in stores for cheaper. It helps the fish heal and de-chlorinates the water and makes it safe for them.
Then also you need a PH kit:
Amazon.com: API FRESHWATER pH TEST KIT: Pet Supplies (http://www.amazon.com/API-FRESHWATER-pH-TEST-KIT/dp/B000255NAK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1324515632&sr=8-1)
And then a bottle of PH up and PH down to change the PH:
Amazon.com: API pH UP 16 OZ: Pet Supplies (http://www.amazon.com/API-pH-UP-16-OZ/dp/B0002ASGC2/ref=sr_1_1?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1324515679&sr=1-1)
Amazon.com: Aquarium Pharmaceuticals pH Down 16oz: Pet Supplies (http://www.amazon.com/Aquarium-Pharmaceuticals-pH-Down-16oz/dp/B001EWC1XC/ref=sr_1_3?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1324515697&sr=1-3)
You can get way smaller bottles, I just found the first one that came up for example. And these last a long time.
With the PH test kits I have found the one I posted to be the best. And the brand API is the brand I have used for years.
There are tiny bottles of the PH up and down for a couple bucks.
It is also recommended to have a ammonia, nitrate and nitrite checker. But if you keep the tanks nice and clean then I find no need for them. I have always been able to keep those three in check all the time though :)
I would wait to put them in the new tank until you know the chlorine and metals are out. The chlorine should have evaporated out of the tiny tank already that they are already in.

My aquarium kit came with a water conditioner to make the water safe for them, which I added last night at 2 am.
Ok I gotta get the test kit. So you think I shouldn't add them yet until I test the water?

If you are getting the PH test kit and PH up and down soon then I would wait. They aren't dead in the little tank so it should be ok for a day or two. Probably not the best conditions, but atleast the water seems ok for now.
I would test the water in what they are in now before changing the PH in the larger tank. If the PH they are in now is, lets say, 8, then putting them in PH 7 might shock them. You would want to put them in around PH 7.8 to 8 for a while, then lower it a bit, then wait a while, then lower it. And then after a week or two the PH would be perfectly at 7.

Good Lord, now I'm terrified Jordan! :ha: I hope I can get the hang of this pH stuff. I guess it's a lot like soil pH.
Ok, I'll wait before adding them. I would feel horrible if I killed them. Better to do it right since I've gone to all this trouble. They're pretty cool little guys and I'd like to keep them for a bit.

Once you get used to fish tanks PH is something very easy, unless something weird happens ;)
I am feeling a bit better then yesterday. I never feel 100%, I haven't for years now. I can't even remember what it feels like not to be sick or to feel good :(

I am now :) Sorry had another bad headache :(
Just read your post in the pet thread :) Sounds like they are enjoying their new tank :)
If there was too big of a PH difference, or if it would have harmed them then they wouldn't be swimming and acting better then usual.
What pet stores use to test water is the same stuff I told you about, just I wouldn't trust the little paper slip ones unless that's all you can find.
Do you go on your youtube account anymore? You could record them and put them on there also :) And if you named stuff then you might get some views also ;)

It's been raining all day so far :) Better than snow! ;) :ha::ha::ha:
I am going to "flowerland" tomorrow possibly with a friend of mine also. It's a large plant store. Last time I was there though I bought a baby orchid and it had rot so bad it died even after I tried to get it off. So I will need to pull up the plants and everything before even thinking about buying one.
Last time they had some very cool looking pre-bonsai I might have to look at also. Maybe get into bonsai again :)
I am really wanting something that will flower, nothing I have right now is flowering, or at the flowering age.
I was at the petstore with my friend the other day also. They were having a sale on fish tanks and I just about got a dwarf frog and the tank to get it. I then realized that my mom would be mad if I got yet another pet, and I wanted to go to flowerland to I forced myself not to get them :ha::ha::ha:

Hi everyone. Jordan I had a PS3 but its not working at the moment so my brother got an xbox 360 from a friend. I got Skyrim for it and its a very fun game. I've played most of the Star Ocean games. I ran out of spring water, so my dad is getting some more tomorrow. Once I get the new, clean, water I will cut off the overgrown parts of the pre-bonsai and take off all the unwanted dead parts. I am going to try cuttings off the overgrown branches.
I only water my plants with pure spring water.
I am probably going to go back to the store I got it from and buy some adeniums that they had.
They also had some pachypodium lamerii that where atleast a meter or more tall! Oh yes did I want to take them home. But they where a bit big for me :ha::ha::ha:
I might let my fukein tea go a while before getting it a bonsai pot. To make sure it does well for me.
Would anyone be interested in seeds off of it if I can get it pollinated?
I love the PS3! :ha::ha::ha::ha::ha::ha: It has so much to do on it. It's a lot cooler then other game systems I have seen. And the graphics are awesome! :D

I had to throw out the fukein tea :( :'( It had snails, some weird white things, and had apparently had some weird white powdery mold like stuff and that spread all over it from being in my bathroom.
I am not buying anything from local stores anymore. No one knows how to care for anything and everything is sick once I get it.
I will just have to stick with online, PROFESSIONAL, dealers of plants.

Hey Jordan, I don't know if you want a very small one, but if you do then I have a sago palm for you. They are not my favorite plant, too stiff looking and they stick you. PM me your address and I'll send it to you if you want it.

Thanks :) Sent you a pm :) I got this weird email today, the topic was "nice present" And all it had in the body of it was a link to a untrustworthy viagra dealer that scams people.... So I deleted the email and ran a very thorough virus scan from a linux rescue disk and nothing was found. I also changed all of my password using a different computer. I don't open suspicious emails like this one, but my charter email opened it once the email loaded so it was open once my email loaded..... Friday I am probably going to order my sago palm and O.B. seeds mentioned above :) Hope everyone is having a nice day :)

Yup still addicted to the video games. Right now I'm playing Minecraft. I made a server that my son, my wife and I can all play on. It is actually hosted on my web server so it is accessable by anyone. If any of you want to join, let me know and I'll provide the info.
It would be funny to have our own virtual gardens. It would be loads of fun if they would make a larger variety of plants available in game.
