I would like to offer some marigold seeds for your ipad Sherry ;) :ha::ha::ha: (joking, sarcastic)

:ha::ha::ha: Duh, otay!!! Sounds like a fair trade. :ha:

I've been feeling kind of guilty about getting it but my mom said I could justify it by keeping as my Christmas present for this year...and the next! :ha: Sounded good to me!

I do think it's cool and find it convenient too when you go to a restaurant that offers internet. You can read your emails right from your table! Can't wait to be able to read books soon too. That will be handy.

Actually I can justify it for you Sherry. I'll PM.

Glad you are enjoying it :)

This is going to be like the AG's.... We will all have one in a year or two :ha::ha::ha:

Or we will all be trying to show off something the other person doesn't have ;) :ha::ha::ha:

"Oh ya, well I have a stuffed cat. Match that (Sherry pulls out an Ipad)..... Oh ya, well I have two stuffed cats"

I think I might keep it and agree with my mom's logic...it's this year and next year's xmas present to myself. :ha: Too funny.

It wasn't something I really needed but it was something I kinda wanted and thought I'd check out. I already had a kid that looked like he was around 8 or so ask me "Is that an iPad"? Of course I said "Yup". He just stood there and stared at me for a few more seconds before running off. I thought it must be pretty cool because kids always know what's hot.

I was watching some video on youtube last night...it was a guy giving the 10best apps for your iPad that he thinks are just fantastic. A lot of them are free too. I will pay for the ones I really want but apparently the free ones are just as cool also.

Yeah Tommy, the battery life is like 10 hours!!! I love it. Oh so you're suggesting I might meet a mate with this little number too, eh? ;) That might be cool. I need to find me a computer geek. :ha:

How many stuffed cats do you have, Janan?

My cat butter is stuffed with something, I don't know what though:

Oh wait, you mean fake stuffed cat right? Are you talking about the ones that look like they are breathing?

I thought you meant a live cat at first, I confused myself  ;)

Nope, it's been real quiet around here...likely because none of their rents are paid! :ha:

Yeah, I thought you meant a live cat too Janan, but I just couldn't picture you doing something like that. LoL!

How did you know I was on the phone, Janan?! Yup, I was. ;)

Otay then Jordan, I'll send the iPad...but only if I get 10 marigold seeds! I'm in the know, so don't try to jip me off and only send 5!

Sorry about that. It's rather rude of me if I do say so myself. But if I don't answer the phone, the person keeps calling back incessantly, like a desperate individual. :ha:

So um yeah, I was gonna get a shot of the bulb and the seedlings soon.

It took about 2 weeks for the marble seeds to come up. Looks like I've got about 10 sprouts.

Jananas Bananas
11-22-2011, 01:19 AM
Well see now Jordan is gone. He must have gone to bed.

That's OK Sherry. We can figure it out! :ha:

10 that's great! You may have to put a couple of fresh seed in my seed request packet since I can't seem to get ANY to sprout. Maybe I should try again in starter soil.

The Hollyberry Lady
11-22-2011, 01:23 AM
Do you mean marble seeds? I have lots if you need some. They are the ones that are just coming up now. Very fresh and viable.

I sent some to Tommy also.

: )

Jananas Bananas
11-22-2011, 01:30 AM
Yes.

I have been trying for two years to get them to sprout without any luck. I even put a paper circle over the last three I started in an AG slot to try and prevent the algae growth. NADA!

Hey did I tell you I am going to try a watermelon in one! :)

The Hollyberry Lady
11-22-2011, 02:10 AM
Don't mean to laugh Janan, but nope, you never mentioned a watermelon before! Omg that is too hilarious. What kind will you grow?

tommyg

I am trying to grow my pepper seeds in three ways. Just a small experiment.
I have two in growing soil on my bathroom window sill, one in soil in my sunroom and one in 70 percent water and 30 percent soil in my kitchen. I've been using warm water on all of them. I'm hoping something starts to grow in a week. We'll see what works best.

Jananas Bananas
11-22-2011, 11:20 AM

My pepper seeds in general pop fast in the AG. I think in seed starter they took about two weeks. Are you talking about the Marble seeds from Sherry? They are beautiful plants Tommy. You will enjoy them I think! :)

jreidsma
11-22-2011, 11:39 AM
I'm back :D

It's not rude to answer the phone, I do it all the time ;)

Except when it's those annoying "toll free" or credit card people. And if I do answer them they don't call back for a while ;)
"Hello, would you like our new credit services, they offer a bunch of crap you don't care about"
Me-"no would YOU like MY credit card services, I offer nothing and you deal with it"
(The conversation continues until one of us don't talk any more and give up)

And then when we have the people that keep calling, but never answer. My mom calls them back and tells them off

I should be generous and send you 11 marigold seeds :D

Jananas Bananas
11-22-2011, 11:51 AM
Hi Jordan! :03:

Where is Cam? He must be busy on a project or something.

My project for today is tearing down two of my AG's and restarting them. My phlox in one has basically turned into a weed and that is the only plant that is still growing in that one. And the other has my spoon tomato in which will be a little more work because that plant is a monster. I will probably mess it up and it has just started to bloom. :( It has made such a mess in that corner though and I have to get it cleaned up for the holidays.

jreidsma
11-22-2011, 11:58 AM
Good luck with your projects :)

I am going to plant some pachypodium seeds in a couple minutes. That's pretty much all I have planned for today.

The Hollyberry Lady
11-22-2011, 12:09 PM
Good afternoon! :waving:

Hope everyone is having a good day. I was loading some shots of one of my plants that has started to bloom in the last couple days. The fragrance of the blooms is so incredible. I'll post it shortly.

I insist on only 10 seeds, Jordan! I would't want to take advantage of your good nature. :ha:

The iPad is on it's way! :08: OTAY!

I was thinking about going downtown this week to get those shots but kind of been procrastinating because I'm nervous about going downtown with my camera. There are a lot of desperate people around and you never know. Maybe I'll wait until my mom goes with me. Two people are better than one. Women have been attached and even shot and killed in downtown London, so it can be a scary place if you're not careful.

Boy am I enjoying that iPad. It's just fabulous. I like when I send emails from it and at the bottom of my note it says "sent from my iPad". I guess iPhone, iPod, and iPad can send imessages to each other. I think we can see each other with our cameras too, if we talk. That will be handy because my aunt likes to webcam and I think she has an iPod.

Ok shots are loaded. Gonna go post them...

: )

jreidsma
11-22-2011, 12:15 PM
I haven't used my messaging thing yet on my ipod. I do have text for free and stuff similar though.

There's also a free phone app thing. It lets you call from your ipad and ipod. :)

The Hollyberry Lady
11-22-2011, 01:01 PM
You mean I can make actual phonecalls from my iPad? Now that would be cool. Then you could see the person while you talk to them!!!

I'm just loading iBooks right now. Thought I had done it already but I guess I hadn't. I would love to use my iPad to read books when I'm on the bus or waiting at the doctor's office. It will be really convenient.

The touch screen is really amazing. It weird not having an actual keyboard but I'm getting used to it.

Sherry you should try some audio books. Just stick your earbuds in like you would if you were listening to your music. It is GREAT!

Got one AG soaking in the hot soapy and bleach water now. Two more to go! :ha: I decided to do another one while I was at it! I already have the plants in them planted outside. One for sure (the tomato) will have to come in tonight - but it is in the 70's right now going up and nice and sun shiny!

Just got done planting my Pachypodium Horombense:

I put all the ones that got crushed a bit in one pot, the 2.75" and then of the ones that looked ok, I put them in their own little tiny pot. Those tiny small pots might be 1"?

Nevermind the smell...get it into some pasta! :ha:

Omg I can't live without basil and always have some onhand. In fact, I'm so addicted, I can't even eat pasta without it! So if you ever invite me over for spaghetti, be sure to have lots of fresh basil around! ;)

I just got in. Boy is it cold and rainy out tonight. Good thing I brought my umbrella. It was wickedly windy too. Good to be back home in my warm & cozy apartment.

Oh yeah, I told Janan, but forgot to tell you guys...I finally found a winter coat on the weekend!!! :goteam: It's purple and it has a hood with poofy purple fur all around it. I love it! So glad I finally found one, and it isn't black, brown, or grey. To me, those colors are more for guys, than girls. I also got a terrific deal on it too. It was on sale. :D

I put up my little mini xmas tree up yesterday. I have it lit tonight and you can see it from my window. Looks so pretty.

Well, I might post a shot or two as soon as my green tea is ready...

I have a pink coat too...but it's for Autumn. Too funny, Jordan. :ha:

So how do I delete an app from my iPad? Lots I don't know yet. Gotta keep reading. I've been buying iTunes and adding to my music library! So much fun.

Ok yeah Janan, that sounds good. So someone is essentially reading the book to you and you just listen? That would be too cool. I'm so glad I got this thing. What a great xmas present. :D

Did you check out my aero garden plants tonight? Everything is growing terrifically.

Ok, so on your ipad screen. Hold your finger on the app you want to delete. All the apps should start jiggling and then touch the X in the corner of the app you want to delete.

I am pretty good with ipad's and ipods. So I am here to help :)

Just found a new musician to listen to :) This time I have something in common with them ;)

Jananas Bananas
11-22-2011, 09:54 PM
Audio books are very cool Sherry. Yes, I just got back on and saw your babies in the AG's.

Jordan we need to see your grow tails on the MicroToms! What musician is that?

Basil does smell good Tommy - it is a beautiful fast growing plant too. I love the purple ones!

Cam where are you?

The Hollyberry Lady
11-22-2011, 10:07 PM
Wow Jordan, thanks a lot!!! I've been trying to figure that out for 2 days! I guess you are an excellent person to ask. Thanks again. ;)

Audio books do sound neat. Are they expensive and is it through iBooks? When you buy a song, movie, or book, do you get to keep it permanently?

The songs are only 99 cents but some are $1.29. They don't charge tax either so it's pretty cool. I just bought one of those iTunes giftcards to make it easy. I'm having a blast with this thing! Can't believe how long the battery lasts!

jreidsma
11-22-2011, 10:21 PM
My camera doesn't show the seeds very well. I will try again tomorrow, you might have to remind me though :ha::ha::ha:

Glad I could help Sherry :)

I record my songs off youtube with a free sound recorder I found ;)

The musician I found is Kim Petras. I am more into faster songs though so I am only listening to one or two of her songs. I will be on the search for more songs tomorrow.

Sherry, do you know how to change the wallpaper of your ipad? I also know of a couple good wallpaper apps if you would like. Like "wallpaper box", "iwallpapers", "wallpapersHD" and such.

And then theres this one called "flower garden", you grow flowers and can make bouquets out of them and gift them to each other :)

And then the best of all, NYAN CAT!!! Also known as poptart cat! :D

I also have robot unicorn attack! MWAHAHAHA

:ha::ha::ha:

Jananas Bananas
11-22-2011, 10:30 PM
Yes, Sherry you can get them anywhere and yes they are yours to keep just like the music you are buying. I think you can get them at the same website you purchase your music through. Plus Amazon, and other places like that. No I don't think they are very expensive though higher than one song. The first time you get a good book read by an amazing reader you will be hooked, so be prepared! There are book clubs that you can get the downloads from also, that you can join and get good discounts on best sellers, favorite authors and such. I really think you will LOVE it! :)

The Hollyberry Lady
11-22-2011, 10:37 PM
Those sound cool, Jordan. I guess there's this other neat app where your iPad or iPod turns into a sketch board! Lines are drawn wherever your fingers move. Apparently it's free and a neat one to have for when you're bored...or even if you're a real artist. You can apply colors to your sketches as well!

Yup I know how to change the wallpaper and did already, but I'll check out those apps you mentioned too. That flower garden one sounds like such fun. Do you ever buy any of the apps, or just use the free ones? I hear the free ones are just as good.

Sounds just fabulous Janan!!! I am excited. I love to read but having someone read to me would be even better. How cool is that!!! Do they have current and modern books...ones that are currently in the bookstores? Is the selection good?

What about garden books? Can you get the reader to fast-forward to parts of the book you wanna hear and skip parts you don't? Sorry, but I know nothing.

Janan, I'm just too tickled about this whole audio book reading. I was gonna download some xmas carols for December, to listen to. I wonder if they have the book 'twas the night before xmas'. I'd love to listen to the story when I'm in the mood.

Oh this is too much fun. :woohoonaner:

This guy was telling me that him and his mom play scrabble back and forth on their iPads. He made her get one because they live far away from each other so it's a great way to stay close.

I wish my grandparents would get a computer but they're afraid of them and think they won't be able to operate it. Whenever I bring it up, they are not receptive to the idea so I drop it. They miss out on stuff though. I just copy my pictures for them however at Wal-Mart and send them to them. My grandmother adores my plants and the pics I send.

Ok so there are free audio books to try! Wow, that's so cool Janan. I think you guys are trying to get me to keep this iPad! It's working. :D

Merry Christmas to me! :ha:

If you want to get a new ipad, like a bigger one, then you can sync all the stuff from this one over to it. I havent done it ina while but I just synced my ipod to my computer, then went to set it back to factory setting. and it ask if you want to move it over to a new device or something.

I would try to find out from apple about that one, it has changed sense I got mine.

The Hollyberry Lady
11-22-2011, 11:32 PM
I was trying to attach my iPad to my computer last night, but the manual implied that the same cord used to charge the battery could also be used to attach my iPad to my laptop. Not possible though because one end plugs into an electrical wall outlet. There were no other cords in the box. Maybe I'll call the store in the morning and inquire. I am going to return this one though in exchange for a 64GB iPad. Then I can buy movies, books, videos, and songs GALORE!

I use the notes app a lot to keep a log of dates I sowed seeds and how long it took for them to come up. When I last watered and fertilized, etc. It's too handy and convenient.

I guess it's better to buy an Apple tablet because they're independent and virus-free, whereas other cheaper non-apple tablets are prone to a lot of problems with viruses. Glad I won't have to deal with that.

What do you mean a bigger one, Jordan? This was the only size iPad they have. Do you mean just a normal apple computer...like a mac? I'm not too sure. I have two laptops already but they're not apple.

It makes me want to sell all my other ones and buy nothing but apple though. They're too cool.

: )

jreidsma
11-22-2011, 11:45 PM
By bigger i meant the 64GB one. More space o it.

I use linux on most of my computers :) its even more virus resistant then Apple is :) Then if you put anti virus on it also... :ha::ha::ha:

The plug in that goes to your ipad and to the wall should come apart. Where the cord meats the block thing, it should come apart there. Its then a plug in into your computer via USB

No Sherry I have not been able to germinate any Marbles in over two years. Probably better. I might have a better chance with fresh ones.

I am going to post a new picture of my Little Blue Pot in the AG thread. Both those first blossoms are making peppers. The "necks" of the blossoms are getting really really thick!

jreidsma
11-23-2011, 12:19 AM
Hope you guys have better luck with these "marbles". i hope you are talking about the peppers and not the glass ones children play with  :ha::ha::ha:

Oh, also, can we make "groups" on here like we can on plantswap? Just a random question I came up with :ha:

Do you want me to send you some of my fresh marble seeds, Janan? They take two weeks but they're incredibly viable an will come up. I have 10 seedlings now. Thought it might be nice to grow a pot stuffed with a bunch of them. I'm gonna try.

Let me know about the seeds, Janan.

Yes, I would Sherry. I am really struggling with them!

The Hollyberry Lady
11-23-2011, 12:50 AM
You won't be struggling long, so don't worry. ;) I'm thinking that it wasn't you, it was the seeds that were the problem Janan. For whatever the reason, sometimes seeds just aren't good.

Just have patience but these will come up for you. I'll send you a bunch of them. So glad you've got a 'little blue' growing. That is such a fun plant and it performs exceptionally in the a-g. Hope I sent some of those to you Jordan. I can't recall offhand. You'll know soon.

I just bought two big boxes of coin envelopes so I can package up some seeds for you guys. I'll get busy with that because I know you guys are anxious. Plus I wanna get those bulbs off to you too. What are you guys gonna grow under your bulbs? I'm growing the marble seedlings.

Where's Cam? Miss him. :)

Thanks Sherry! I have had older seed germinate so it really frustrates me when something doesn't work, you know? Yes, I tried and tried with the Little Blues too, until I have this little one working. I think it is a dwarf too. I measured it yesterday and it is just a little over an inch tall!!!!

The Hollyberry Lady
11-23-2011, 10:52 AM
Wow, that is tiny Janan! Don't worry it'll grow. I think it's just anxious to give you some fruits. ;)

Hope everyone is enjoying their Wednesday so far.

I was looking at the marble seedlings under that sun blaster bulb and boy are they purple! They've turned a dark purple. Hope they stay that way.

Ok I'll send some your way Janan. You should have good luck with them. No I wasn't thinking they were old seeds you had...were they underdeveloped in some way? Maybe they got wet and you didn't know it?

Maybe it was the soil you were using because sometimes too, damping-off bacteria can kill seedlings below the soil.

Anyway, I'll mail some asap.

Thanks Sherry! I really appreciate it. I always loved my Momma Marble because it was so unique and no one else around here had one. Since you had luck with them and have had a lot of peppers I was hoping you wouldn't mind sharing them with me. :) I think I have forgotten to ask - what do you think of the flavor and what degree of hotness do you think they are? No rush - as long as I know you have some marked for me.

Been busy already this morning, doing laundry and cleaning. Bah!

I did start a few new seeds in a freshly cleaned AG too. That was fun picking which ones.

Hi Guys! :waving:

Gosh Cam you had us a little worried - but I guess turn about is fair play right? :ha: I remember now that you told us you were going into major cleaning mode and major cooking mode for Thanksgiving. I know that is exhausting!

Great you received your stuff from Sherry, Jordan. She really gets mad at her postal service sometimes. Hope your peppers do as well as in your AG as ours have done!

Cam did you ever start any of those Mexican Bird of Paradise? I just started a seed in the AG this morning. I hope I have as good of luck with it as I had with the last one. I moved the last one outside since it grew so large. It has lost it's leaves but the stem is still very green so I think it just did it out of protest. I think they lose there leaves in the winter anyway. Guess I will know this coming Spring if it made it or not. :) I started one of the palm seeds too! A palm tree in an AG! How about that? :ha:

Willow87
11-23-2011, 03:45 PM
Hi Janan. I just got back from the grocery store because my sister wanted some red wine to go with Thanksgiving dinner. We finished the cheesecakes, 2 other cakes and now the buttermilk pound cake is finished. We still have to bake the apple pie and the lemonade pie and then tomorrow will be the rest of the food for dinner.
I did start the Mexican Bird of Paradise, the seeds are swollen but none have any roots yet. I remember an old friend had one growing in her yard and it actually came back every year, she lived a little further north. I still havent seen any signs of life with the palm seeds. I can't wait to see a palm tree in an AG

JaNan,
In response to your post 4 days ago. Most of the stuff in my basement is dead again. I still have a few garlic plants alive, the dragon fruit is doing well, my SDC is still alive. What I should do is make an office down there so I go down there every day. I tend to only go to my basement once a week or so.

I've been busy with video games the last month or so. Now I think I can finally spend more time here.

I really miss everyone here there is generally always good conversation gong on.

Jananas Bananas
11-23-2011, 06:09 PM
Ummmm.....chocolate peanut butter balls, do they taste like Reese's Pieces? Lemonade Pie sounds yummy too. Does it have a bite to it like Key Lime Pie? Datura seeds take a loooong time to germinate, so if you haven't given up on them yet - give them more time!

I've got to make some stuff this evening too. We will be taking a bunch of stuff over to my daughter's house. This will be her first year to host, they all usually come over here. Greg's making two pumpkin cheesecake pies and the Waldorf salad. I will be doing the sweet potatoes, pea salad, and stuffing.

Tom that might be a good idea, an office there so you can keep an eye on everything. Are your kids going stir crazy yet, or have they been able to get outside a little bit?

Your Palm seed sounds great, Janan!

Cam, so great to 'see' you again. Sounds like you guys are putting on quite the spread! Wish I was coming for dinner. :ha:

Jordan, I can't beleive you got the seeds from me!!! :goteam: I thought it would surely be another week yet! It's near Christmas too so they're usually extra slow. So glad you got them and that you sowed a "little blue" hot pepper seed!!! Oh boy you're gonna love it. Enjoy!

Nice to see you too, Tom. Great to hear you'll join us more. We sure miss ya. ;)

I may make the lemonade pie another time. Everyone is tired and we still have to make the rest of food tomorrow. The buttermilk pound cake tastes really good . pumpkin cheesecake sounds really good. It sounds like you are going to have a nice dinner Janan. Me and my family usually have dinner without any relatives., though we do get invited to a few Thanksgiving dinners. You might want to cut some circles out of paper to block some of the light from the sponges, the algae will be next and I hate the algae! At least the peroxide makes the mold go away immediately (though it comes back fast).

Yeah we will have a big spread. We are going to have fried turkey this year. That's why we aren't having it at my house. We don't have a turkey fryer and that is how my son in law wanted to try it.

Sherry that is the only reason you and your Mom didn't get an invite this year - not having it here!!!

About six different ones. Sherry's fall thread is the one at the moment. You have to put at least two of the words just right or you get a bazillion responses. Tom that might be a good idea, an office there so you can keep an eye on everything. Are your kids going stir crazy yet, or have they been able to get outside a little bit?

The kids have lots of activities. They are out of the house pretty much every day. I was kind of sad though, my son didn't want to plant garlic with me a few weeks ago.

Wanna bet ;) :ha::ha::ha:

I eat vegetable soup, but I strain the stuff out of it and just eat the juice with crackers ;)

I Have a weird gag reflex, if I eat certain things I throw up on the spot. So I don't eat much with variety.

Not really.... :ha: I guess my diet is a bit on the different side...

According to the doctors I am in perfect health, other then all these illnesses I have. Like acid reflex, eczema, migraines, ..... I could go on and on.

There's nothing missing in my blood either. So I guess I am some how getting all the stuff I need.

I don't eat completely bad. Just I don't really get any fresh fruits or anything.

I got the same song on replay over and over again :ha::ha::ha:

Oh I guess I rented it, didn't buy it. It says you get to watch the movie for 30 days if you rent it. Have you rented movies for your iPad...or your iPod?

I guess the songs you get to keep permanantly. I'm building up quite a nice library of music. I just buy the giftcards so I don't have to use my credit card online.

Movies do take a while to download.

That I know of, if the ipaq is completely turned off then it won't download further. I've never tried it though as I have mine on almost all the time. Now if its only asleep then it will continue to download.

I've never gotten a movie, I have some free shows though. Like punkin chunkin' :ha:

Ok yeah, I figured out last night that I didn't actually have to wait for the movie to finish downloading in order to watch it. I was laying in bed until the wee hours of the morning watching Chevy Chase's Christmas Vacation! :ha: It was too great watching it on the iPad. I used my headphones to listen.

their bettas :) They are pretty cool. But please don't do a bowl....

The bad thing with bowls is then they can get kind of depressed and everything. They end up not living as long as others would in tanks with filters and everything. And then in the bowls where theres not filter or air pump the water can get deprived of oxygen, then the fish has to get more breaths from the top of the water and the water can get dirty very fast.

You could get a small 5 gallon tank and set it up for reasonably cheap also. Then the fish could live a lot longer and not be as depressed from such a small tank.

Pet stores like to sell small tanks because they can get more money if they do. Because a lot of people will come in and want one because of how small and cheap it is. The betta (beta?) only lives in a small amount of water for a short time when everything gets dry where their from. They are not used to being in a small amount of water for years on end.

Five gallon tanks can be cheap also, for just the betta I wouldn't mess with a bottom filter unless you got a kit with one in it. Then you would just need the rocks, small filter, and then what ever else you wanted to put in it.

I have had many betta. One I had for about 7 years in a five gallon tank with a filter and everything. If you get a healthy looking one and have nicely set up tank then they can live for a very long time.

Gonna go to the pet store, maybe I'll bring the camera, they have some exotic stuff there. I need some more cleaner critters or something to eat my algae. Maybe some snails or something, might end up with a shrimp or two also ;) Or something else that I end up liking :D

Jananas Bananas
11-27-2011, 12:42 PM
Jordan sometimes people just don't want to mess with an aquarium big or small. It's the solitary existence that is depressing not the bowl. If you set a mirror beside your fish it won't be depressed, or you can get two and set them beside each other. Better yet get a male and a female, and they definitely won't be depressed. I have had Bettas live in a bowl for slightly over 6 years, but on average 3 is more likely and I have had a lot over the years. This by no means is a put in the bowl and forget about it. The environment still has to be cleaned. The food for Betta doesn't cloud the water like some other fish food. And they don't fowl the water as quickly as gold fish. IMO they are wonderful fish to have. You have to remember though, you do not know how "old" the fish you are buying are. The larger and more showy the plumage on the male Betta the older they are which means a shorter life span for you.

Jordan is right an aquarium is always better for oxygenation. But if you don't have a plug for electricity or want to mess with an aquarium, you can still enjoy fish in other containers!

Oh one other note, if you purchase a fish that is coming out of an aquarium that is oxygenated with a certain temperature - for instance a gold fish, then put the gold fish in a fish bowl with room temperature water and no oxygenation chances are it will struggle and often die. Also, if using tap water - let the water sit out for at least 24 hours before putting any fish in it. FYI :)

Ive had several bettas. I started out with bettas several years ago. My first one was named 'Flame' He lived for 4 years and then I got one and named him Aqua. He was my favorite. He was black with gold fins, when he died I was just devastated. But that was several years ago. My sister got one that went into a shell and we thought he was sleeping in there, but after a day passed and he still wasn't out of the shell, I had to pull him out and he had died. From that point on We never put shells in tanks. Now I know that the shells also make the water very alkaline. Janan I found out that a few of my Mexican Fan palms sprouted. I thought the top of my fridge was too insulated, but I guess there was still enough warmed to cause a few to sprout. I forgot about them and they haven't had water in a month. I gave them a soaking lol

Janan I knocked over one of my germination containers before. When I rushed to bring in the rest of my plants I broke a few, I was so sore and tired after that lol. I see all of the freeze warnings south of here, its amazing. I got the gloxinia from a friend. She kept insisting that it was dead even after I told her they go through a dormant period. The blooms are a dark purple with a frilly white edge and the center of the flower is speckled (purple and white) I've never had a gloxinia before but I read they are similar to African Violets.

I brought the camera, I went to atleast 6 pets stores. But like my mom said, it might not be a good idea to bring a camera into a store. They might not like that there. So no picture from stores, sorry :(

I bought a mystery snail and six ghost shrimp.

One of the pet stores had a dwarf lionfish  I really wanted it :ha::ha::ha: I don't have a saltwater tank right now though.

We did see a fox on the way to the pet store. but I couldn't get a picture of it :( It ran away too fast, and it was raining so the car windows were fogged up too much to get decent pictures of the trees and stuff.

Oh pooh Jordan! I love seeing Sherry's pet shop pictures and was looking forward to seeing what your stores had. Maybe you can ask permission next time. Just go to the manager in charge and ask, that would satisfy Mom and all they can say is yes or no! If they say yes you may have to turn off the flash though, just in case it would frighten the animals.

Cam gloxinia are absolutely gorgeous. Here's a link for you to see them. They are very similar to African Violets, but the flowers are huge compared to AV's You are going to love them!

gloxinia - Google Search (http://www.google.com/search?q=gloxinia&hl=en&rlz=1C1AVSX_enUS387US387&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=Ht_STvLqG8apsAL8nKzJDg&ved=0CCkQsAQ&biw=1600&bih=775)

The 5th gloxinia picture looks very similar to the one I got from a friend, though hers was a little more frilly. It was a huge plant when she got it, almost over a foot across. Jordan I wish I had a saltwater aquarium, my favorite fish are the clown fish. I saw a saltwater starter aquarium at Petco one year.

Next time if I remember I will ask :) My moms just a bit protective, which is probably a good thing :) Maybe that means they will be more excepting in the future.

No new growth in my AG yet, my micro tome is kind of curling up? But it has new leaves budding on it, so maybe it is ok.

One thing I want to do is set up a micro-reef. You take a ten gallon or five gallon tank and set up a small reef in it. With maybe a clown fish or two.

I like all the fish, but probably lionfish stand out to me for some reason. I also like pretty much anything else.

What also would be cool would be to set up a small portable plant setup in those little "Critter Keepers" that are sold around here. No fish in it though. Just some plants and maybe a snail or shrimp.

Maybe a type of dwarf shrimp or something incredibly tiny. Or I could start brine shrimp again, all though they are salt water....

I could always put a air tube into a water bottle and start some brine shrimp in there. That would be cool.

I am saving my money for when the Raspberry Pi computer comes out. Now you guys have me wanting another fish tank :ha::ha::ha: Too bad I don't have enough room :( Oh, well. Maybe I will set up that tiny plant set up ;)

I am just throwing out random ideas now :ha::ha::ha:

Thats something I would like to do, set up a smaller tank with just a couple of clown fish. Maybe one day. I think its cool that you have shrimp for pets. I've seen ghost shrimp before at the pet store. Lion fish look so neat but I would be scared of the venomous barbs they have.

Ok I know I've been raving on about my new iPad but omg this thing is way too amazing! :goteam:

You can listen to your tunes and even watch your movies while you're out, regardless if there's WI-fi available or not!

Hope everyone's having a great Monday. :waving:

And if you have WiFi you could always use pandora radio :)

And then if you are listening to a song you like, but don't know the name. You could always use soundhound to ID it :)

The Hollyberry Lady

Are those apps, Jordan...Pandora Radio & Soundhound? Sounds pretty cool. ;)

Gonna buy a game today, I think. Wonder if they have chess, where you can play against the computer. If you buy a game, can you play it with someone else on iPod, iPad, or iPhone? Or do they have to purchase the same game as well? Not sure how it all works just yet. I just know I'm loving it! :goteam:

Janan, I haven't picked out a book yet but I enjoy being read to so I know I'm gonna love it.

No package from you yet Janan, but I'll let you know the very day it arrives. Can't wait! :D

Oh and it now takes just a couple hours to load a movie, I figured out. I've got four so far in my library, but I'm planning to buy more. Most of the ones I got were only 10 bucks. Some of the newer ones are 15 and 20 bucks though.

I find it amazing that you can watch your movies anywhere you want, with or without WI-fi. I was watching a movie on the bus yesterday! It was just too frigging cool. :08:

Good Morning!

Hope everyone has a great Wednesday. Hard to believe tomorrow is December! Christmas is around the corner.

Gonna mail those bulbs to you you guys by the weekend, Janan & Jordan. Hopefully you two will join the Sun Blaster Lighting thread and we can post shots of our plants growing under the bulbs. That would be cool.

Ok so I got the iPad editions of Scrabble and Monopoly! They were only 10 bucks each and they're super terrific. I was playing Scrabble last night against the computer for the first time...and I won! :goteam:

So I have a bunch of errands to run today and thought I'd get started early. Just thought I'd say hi.

Oh I just saw your post ,Janan. Yeah but remember what I said...it's xmas time and our mail service is slower than yours as it is. Gotta have patience when it comes to snail mail. ;)

Maybe it'll come today but just don't get your hopes up. I'll let ya know...

I know, I know. You know patience is not my strong point. :(

I've been meaning to ask you how is that little willow tree doing? Wasn't it about this time last year that it was full of it's furry blooms? Also, didn't you have some strawberry (?) tree seeds? Did they ever sprout? Or was it a plant?

I'm home now Janan, to see if it makes it today at 12:30. Sorry it's taking so long.

I just bought Battleship for the iPad! LoL. I was playing scrabble while I was out today on the bus. It was too neat. The games are super cool and worth the money, I think.

I'm trying to reach my mom but I think she's still in bed! :ha:

Sorry I was gone for a while. I had another migraine.

My endlers had more babies :D

Jananas Bananas
12-01-2011, 07:57 PM
:waving: Hi gang! Sorry about your migraine Jordan. :(

Your endlers look a lot like guppies. Are they related? Guess I need to look them up!

Guess it didn't make it yesterday or today, Sherry! That really sucks!

Did you check to see if you have the "Green" channel? They have different programming now. They used to feature shows like Living with Ed and stuff like that. They have expanded. :ha:

jreidsma
12-01-2011, 08:47 PM
The endlers are related to guppies, so closely that the can cross breed. But I highly disagree with it and most others that raise them do also. The endlers are extinct in thew wild so the only pure breed ones left are those hobbyist have.

I get the Green channel, but I don't watch much on it.

Jananas Bananas
12-01-2011, 08:56 PM
How do the hobbyist know if they are breeding pure? Are there distinct characteristics that you can tell one from the other?

jreidsma
12-01-2011, 09:37 PM
Well, I don't exactly know how to completely tell.

Probably just make sure that the breeder you get them from is breeding pure breed ones, and that they have never been in with any other live bearers.

Mine have some black in with them, so I am a bit questioning on them. But they don't show any guppy characteristics other then the color. So maybe mine are just a hybrid or something.

Hi Sherry and everyone. I looked at the forecast and we may see either freezing rain or a wintry mix on Monday. I can't believe it. I just have to dig up my gingers and store them in my shed and thats the only plant I'm worried about. I also looked outside today and my sunflowers are blooming. I thought the freeze would kill them but it didn't. The freezing rain probably will. But at least I can enjoy one last cheery flower. I hope everyone is having a great Friday.

I suppose it's a good thing no one else has posted lately and been suffering from insomnia again. ;)

I'm listening to music...

and checking out some pics I took earlier today of my "Amythest Beautyberry" shrub...

Went bowling with some girlfriends tonight and can't seem to wind down yet. :D

: )

I grew up near Birmingham, Alabama and beautyberry grew wild. I never knew the correct name for it. We called it something else that I wont say because it's an ugly word, but that's the only name I knew. Even my mother would say the word and she didn't use ugly words. We ate the berrys.

Hi Terry. That's too funny it was called a bad name! :ha: I'm curious what it was. I love that shrub and it's super easy to propagate either from cuttings or seeds.

WoW Cam...your sunflowers are just gorgeous! You really grow those beautifully. I still have the brand new packet of giants to send you.

Tommy, that's just great about your lemon tree. I can tell you're excited. Did you get my seeds yet? I have not got yours. I'm not surprised though at this time of year. Don't worry...they'll make it here I'm certain.

So Jordan, I took my iPad back and exchanged it for the biggest one...64 GB. I had a tough time transferring all my movies, music, games, and books onto the new iPad...but I finally figured it all out. Everything is back to normal...except for the movies. I'm getting there though. I thought I was loading them onto my iPad last night but they were downloading onto my laptop. Cool though, so I can watch them on there also, but I'm trying to get them back on my iPad. It's all mostly pretty easy really, I find. I haven't had too much trouble. Thanks for all your help. :)

Hanging out waiting for company but thought I'd say hi. Hope you guys are having a terrific weekend.

Good morning everyone. I looked at the weather forecast and its just going to be a cold rain instead of freezing rain. Its still going to be in the 20s for lows but I'm glad that there won't be any ice

Glad you are getting your ipad set up :)

Just went running around today with grandparents. Got me another "goose-neck" lamp for my plants :)

All of the stuff in my AG is coming up now. So I have micro toms, marble peppers, and little blue peppers in it now. :)
