Yes they arrived fine. I have them planted in a community pot. Once they get bigger I transplant them. Thank you again. I showed my mom the babies and she laughed and told me was I going to plant all of them.

Hope you have enough room for all of them :ha:

Just got Debian installed on my ipaq, so that's solved. Will test it now.

LOL I hope so too. I sprayed them with some liquid seaweed and water. Just enough to moisten the soil.

Thanks Jordan, about Henry. ;) I sure miss that little guy something awful. :(

Hope you guys are having a good night. Heading to Wal-Mart briefly but be back shortly.

Gonna be eating this little berry tomorrow...

Sherry those strawberries look really good. Thats the next thing I want to grow in my aero garden

The Hollyberry Lady
11-02-2011, 06:01 PM
I'm saving lots of seeds from this crop, to share. Alpines seem to do well in the A-G.

Just got home. Hope everyone's having a good Wednesday.

: )

Willow87

Do the strawberry seeds need cold stratification to germinate? A cold front is moving in and I brought in most of my houseplants. Friday morning we may see our first freeze here. I hope not. I'm going to cover the rest of my plants with blankets and hope they make it through the cold temps

The Hollyberry Lady
11-02-2011, 06:42 PM
I germinated mine, outside of the A-G. Although no cold-strat was necessary I did sow them in cooler weather near an open window. I transferred the seedling into the aero-garden later. What a sucess it is. I'd like to grow another one.

Gonna gobble this one tomorrow morning...

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/3rd%20album/IMG_2465.jpg

What a treat to have fresh little berries like this! I grew them for Henry too and I was gonna share them. He would have loved them.

So I was just misting my aero-garden plants. The mites are after things and I want to keep them away. I've been cleaning like crazy. Mites hate bleach and cleanliness.

: )

Willow87
11-02-2011, 07:12 PM
I think my room is still fairly warm but sometimes it can be the coolest room in the house. I bet Henry would have loved the berries. I've never seen mites and I hope I never will lol. I have had white flies and mealybugs before

The Hollyberry Lady
11-02-2011, 08:55 PM
It's because I went away, and couldn't keep as on top of things as I would have liked, when it comes to putting the run to mites. I hate those little bastards! :ha:

I've actually grown strawberries for Henry in the past and he always loved them. I've also sprouted seeds and fed him the sprouts, for the nutritional value. He would have very much enjoyed these sweet little Alpine berries. They're really delicious. Wish I could share with him. :(

I bet you could easily get a strawberry seed to germinate in your bedroom, Cam. You could keep the little pot near the window until you see a sprout.

I guess I spoke too soon, Janan. You asked in email about my little blue plant. It's growing new branches that have buds all over them...some even open! Looking forward to seeing more of those colorful peppers. How's your little blue doing? I forget.

I was thinking of starting some more seeds in some empty pods in some of my A-G systems but not sure what just yet. I gotta go look through some stuff.

Here's an A-G pepper shot I took tonight of 'explosive amber'...

I think I'm going to get a pack of strawberries and try to germinate them or look for some at Lowe's. I had to cover my plants today because we may see a freeze here. I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed and pray that it will be warmer than forecasted

Fixing Greg an all vegetable supper was taking a chance. He is a true meat and potato man. Well I did have bacon in the tomato salad, but not enough meat to count! He liked it a lot though, and I thought it was delicious.

Gotta go grab a few more plants! :)

That's a fun area, Jordan. Enjoy! ;)

Ok so I sowed one of those Miracle Fruit seeds, Janan. Hoping to have success with at least one popping for me. Did any of yours sprout?

I was just finishing putting away my seeds for now. Guess I'm gonna do a lot of aero-gardening over the winter. FUN! :D

Jananas Bananas

I had only one seed sprout. Here it is right now. It started in the LadyBug, but I have moved it to another unit, so I could free up the three pod for our experiment.

http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n580/JaNan16/20111103068.jpg

See how it already has one leaf turning brown?

Sherry, I bought 50 of those darned seeds! And less the seeds I have shared I have ONE plant! I have sowed the others in both the AG's and sterile starter peat. I have been really disappointed in them.

The Hollyberry Lady
11-03-2011, 10:20 PM
So are you saying that many of the seeds you sowed, didn't germinate?

I had one in my A-G before that looked like it would sprout and I thought it was, but then it just turned to mush. It will be interesting to see what happens with the 8 seeds I have left.

The center of yours looks healthy...and that's what's important because new leaves sprout up from there. I think in the end your plant will be beautiful. Take that brown leaf off anytime now.

Congrats on having a plant though. It's cool you grew your own from seed! Hope it keeps growing lots for you over the winter.

Do you find things germinate better in the winter, in the A-G's, Janan?

: )

Jananas Bananas
11-03-2011, 10:35 PM
Yes, I have tried to start all of what I had left. I sent seeds to you first as soon as I got them, to Greg and Jordan and no one else has had any sprout either. I think Jordan may have just started his though.

No I haven't had anything that seems it has a preference. I think I have had as many things germinate in the heat of the summer that I had in the early Spring. Did I have one in the winter? I don't think I did. You had yours quite a while before I talked myself into getting an AG. I would have to look back into the AG thread.

Happy Friday, Gang! :waving:

Thought I'd pop in and say hi!

Ok well thanks for your input, Janan. I guess we all experience the aero-gardens differently. I find things germinate and grow better for me in the colder months.

So what are everyone's plans for the weekend?

All the seeds I put in on the second round did nothing. Than I got a mold problem. Im lost now dont know what to do. I turned it off. Im going to have to start all over. Any pointers on how to begin again, What about the mold ? Thanks for any help.wow I put this in the wrong thread !!!! Sorry Im out of it are was I ever in it ? LOL

The Hollyberry Lady
11-04-2011, 11:55 AM
Good air circulation is a way to prevent mold. Try a small fan blowing off to the side.

Janan, didn't you use peroxide with a q-tip to rid the mold off the sponges? I can't recall but I know you said something about it once.

Don't get discouraged, Greg. ;) Clean your system out with bleach and disinfectant. Even wash the baskets that contain the sponges. Use new sponges and try not to touch them too much, especially with unwashed hands.

Even when you're sowing the seed in the sponge...just drop it inside but don't put your fingers on the sponge. Mold can grow from the bacteria on our hands.

When waiting for germination, take the lids off each day for 5-10 minutes a few times, to discourage mold growth as well. You also have the option of sprouting your seeds in soil, but then transferring the seedlings to your A-G later.

Not to worry Greg...I had problems when I first started too. It's easy to get discouraged but I had the aero-garden site to turn to and people helped me with the minor difficulties I was having. Now I love my A-G and have since bought more systems! You will love yours too, Greg. You just need to let us know what is happening, so we can help you through snags. ;)

I believe these things will solve your problems. Give it another try and make sure everything is clean.

Hi,
My miracle fruit have not sprouted yet.

Are there any other things to spend the bucks on other then threads, username, and title stuff?

I am going to a friends Halloween party! :D And I am going as, you guessed it, a cat! :ha:

They had a cat costume at the store but it showed a bit more then what I was comfortable showing... So I just got some ears and a tail :D

Hydrogen peroxide kills mold, so does cinnamon.

Hi Jordan!

My miracle fruit seed looks swollen today. Let's hope we all get at least one sprout.

I put a geranium plant in one of the empty pods to see how they perform in the A-G. I was gonna start one from seed, but why not get ahead of the game a little bit. It's about to bloom!

Just hanging out and gonna load some shots shortly...

Those are beautiful Cam! I LOVE Kalanchoe. There are so many different kinds and they are all beautiful in my opinion! Such cool succulents and such beautiful bloomers. I have a red/orange blooming right now. There is a picture of it in "what's blooming in your garden" thread.

Keeping my fingers crossed for your Miracle Fruit Sherry! Somewhere, I think you asked if anyone tried starting them in soil. I have only tried 6 in the AG the rest have been in sterile seed starting medium. And yes, I use peroxide to control molds.

Jordan I am keeping my fingers crossed for you too!

Greg, did you ever try starting any of the Miracle Fruit I sent you (any method)?

jreidsma
11-05-2011, 03:51 PM
I am trying mine in soil, they haven't done anything yet. I might dig them up and check on them soon and make sure they haven't rotted or anything.

Got some new cactus seeds to sprout from a nice person on Plantswap :) Will get them planted soon.

Very pretty plants Cam :)

The Hollyberry Lady
11-05-2011, 05:32 PM
I really want to get a sprout on one of those miracle fruit seeds and hope we do. I'm reluctant to sow them all at once because if one method doesn't work, I'll still have some left to try another. One of them has got to do something. :D

Nice flowers, Cam! :goteam:

Great deal you got them for as well! I was gonna buy a little orange tree this weekend but didn't. I'll be getting some plants from Bob soon and so I gotta leave room for them. One of the plants Bob is sending me is a dwarf orange tree so I think I'll wait. :)

Hi, Jordan! :waving:

I hope your miracle grow seeds haven't rotted on you. That would suck! :(

So I'm just hanging out at home tonight. Since Henry died I haven't really felt like going out much and am still grieving him. My poor sweet little adorable bird boy. My mom and I were reminiscing about him again today and laughing at some of the things he would say and do.

He was a bit jealous of Buttons sometimes and he would fly over to his cage, land, and walk right up to Buttons and say 'you be a good boy'. :ha: Henry was the one of course that needed to be a good boy but he'd blame it on Buttons. Once I saw him peck Buttons' nose and I scolded him for it. He flew off somewhere, resentfully squawking at me for interferring. He could be very naughty when he wanted to be...but still adorable and cute even so.

So my plant addiction has taken over since I've returned home. I want to sow a hundred seeds! :ha: So glad I kept coming back each week when I was at the cottage, to water and feed stuff. Everything is thriving and it's grown a bunch in a few months.

I had a question for you.
I noticed at my local stores that you can buy a pellet garden.
How are those and would you suggest I use one before spring to try to grow some seeds? or are they not that effective usually?

Willow87
11-05-2011, 06:35 PM
I hope I can keep the kalanchoe alive. I always seem to kill them. I had one that had an orange bloom on it a few years ago but I neglected it. There were also several flats of cyclamen that were 50 cents a piece

I've been really tight with mine too Sherry! I have exhausted all mine though. I think I will go ahead and order a older bush from eBay, even though I have the baby one. They are so expensive, but so were the seeds considering they were seeds after all.

Sherry did you see my new pink one? I posted it in the cacti thread.

Dangermouse01
11-05-2011, 07:16 PM
I had two miracle fruit seeds that I put into a pot of just plain potting soil about the end of Sept, one sprouted about a month later at the end of October (a little over 4 weeks), the other hasn't shown yet. Both were put in soil less than a day after removing them from the fruit. I had them on a south facing window sill and placed a clear plastic cup over them (like a little green house) and gave them a spritz of water about every three days, so they were kept pretty moist.
I put another in just potting soil a few days ago, same set up. My plant has only one ripe fruit on it now, but some small fruits and more buds.

I have heard that they can take as long as 8-10 weeks for a seed to sprout.

Don't give up on them to quickly.

My mom wants to move to another place next year because the price keeps raising on the property. I'm hoping we can move, this place has so many problems. Janan the pom seedlings are the 'Wonderful' seeds you sent me. I haven't seen any of the 'Nana' variety yet but hopefully soon

The Hollyberry Lady

Hi everyone. ;)

Yes, they do look Chrismassy Janan, but they also remind me of Fall too with all the berries on the shrubs and trees. I saw a pot done with nothing but the false sprigs of gorgeous berries everywhere. It was one of the most stunning garden pieces I've ever seen...even though it was fake. Some fake stuff is gorgeous when it's good quality. We have an artificial plant store here that is incredible. Of course I'd never buy a fake plant but I was super impressed with their collection and how authentic things looked.

Anyone ever tried these water globes?

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/3rd%20album/IMG_2594.jpg

My mom picked a few up for me the other day and said they're supposed to water your plants for nearly two weeks. I just used them on the plants that I don't shower each week in the tub. I thought they looked kinda cool and they're made of glass.

I love the tiniest little fella (third). So precious. Yes, I love those shots!

I use them when I am not at home. They work well to keep everything watered while I am gone somewhere. I water everything really well first, then fill up the globes. If your pot is dry they won't last very long. I like them because they are pretty though! :ha:

Hmmmmm. A fine white hair doesn't sound like a plant. Sounds like a cat hair (I get those in my plants a lot :ha:) or the start of that spider webby looking mold.

Well did you use them like Janan said, or did you stick them into a dry pot, Jordan? :ha: Too funny that they worked for Janan but not for you. Maybe you should try again.

Is it ok to fill the water right to the very top, Janan?

Yes, the third shot is cute, but I like the first one best of all. :D

So now the white marigold is standing straight up tall and so is the double petunia seed in my A-G as well. Pretty fun stuff, this aero-gardening is. I'm enjoying it. I can't believe I have grow tail already on my Aurora seeds. I sowed them fresh from a fruit however so maybe this is why. Seems to be unusually fast for a pepper seed. Hope the plant grows just as fast.

: )

Jananas Bananas
11-06-2011, 08:35 PM
Oh yeah, you can fill them to the top because the water will immediately run into the soil into the pot. I fill them to the brim and put a finger over the hole until I stick them in. The only complaint I have with them is the soil gets into the neck part. When you go to refill them you have to clean out the potting soil to get the water back in. This happens even if you use a pencil or something to make your hole first. Which is good to do because you don't want to break their necks. I mean they are glass after all. They will be really good when you go back to the cabin.

I know I really love this AeroGardening too. I get bored with things easily, but I am still fascinated and enjoy the heck out of them.

Have you started anything in yours yet Jordan?

jreidsma

Yeah Janan, but you also have 12 systems!!!

Cam only has one so I bet he has lots of sponges and being that he's in the US like Jordan it would likely only cost 50 cents to send them! :ha:

Ok so I've been worried about my Antonhi peppers because they're supposed to turn white but they look like they're turning chocolate...

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/3rd%20album/IMG_2605.jpg

Guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens...

Yes, they DO look like they are going to be chocolate. Sherry I don't think there is any way those are going to turn white! Has Bob grown them? If so how did they do for him? You are the most knowledgable person I know on peppers (and every other plant for that matter) and if it has you bumfuzzled who knows!!! :ha:

The Hollyberry Lady
11-07-2011, 03:24 PM
"Bumfuzzled".....:ha::ha::ha:

That's the first time I've seen that word. Too funny, Janan! :ha:

Yup, I feel the same and don't see how they could turn white. How very strange. Bob ordered them for me from eBay and they came from some other country. Guess I'll just have to see what happens with them. Hope they're tasty at least.

Sherry I Googled them. Here is a link.

Hawthorn Farm Organic Seeds (Canada) Heirloom and rare varieties, certified organic, farm grown (http://www.hawthornfarm.ca/peppers.html)

Here's a whole bunch of pictures!

Antonhi peppers - Google Search (http://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1AVSX_enUS387US387&gcx=w&q=Antonhi+peppers&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&biw=1333&bih=645&sei=%20mD24TqvkH8_JsQK4muDfAw#um=1&hl=en&rlz=1C1AVSX_enUS387US387&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=mD24Tv3TJuyFsgKUj7nUAw&ved=0CD0QBSgA&q=Antohi+peppers&spell=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&fp=e1e2c732749fa6a1&biw=1333&bih=645)

When I Googled Antonhi mostly yours, mine and Cam's pictures came up. I guess there is not a second "N" in the name.

More mystery peppers! Just what you need, eh? :ha: I don't know, I like the chocolate looking peppers. I like that little curly kind of look to them too. I wonder if they are sweet or hot? Too bad they don't taste like CHOCOLATE!!! My favorite tasting peppers so far have been FISH! What country did they come from?

The Hollyberry Lady
11-07-2011, 08:42 PM
They're an African heirloom, Janan.

Not sure if these mystery ones will be sweet or hot but I suspect sweet because of their size. Guess I'll know soon enough...

So I'm just hanging out tonight reading and fussing over my A-G plants. I just love having berries growing. They cheer me up. Henry would be all over them if he was here.

Tomorrow I should be gobbling about four or five of them. Might put them on my cereal.

Ok Jordan, since Cam's not coming to your rescue, I have located three sponges in one of my boxes and I will send them off quickly in an envelope for now, so you won't have to wait any longer.

I honestly didn't realize you were waiting on me like that. Hopefully if I send them by tomorrow, you'll get them by next Monday. Sorry for the wait but at least you can get started. Do you want me to include a few of the Alpine strawberry seeds too?

Oh and Janan...can you help me with my three-pod system? I've lost the manual and don't know how to turn it off at the same time each night. It seems to be different from the others.

Janan, thanks for that link. It was very helpful to me. I had no idea about the plug being the way to set it. Very different from my others. It was coming on in the middle of the night when the other systems were off. Thanks again.

Nope, I don't have a website or a blog, Tommyg. Others have asked me that too. ;)

You can create one for free on blogger.com. I only ask because I do have a blogg and was wondering if youd like to write an article about gardening or any thing youve learned from it. I could then publish it on my site and give you credit for it.
Let me know what you think.

Thanks for the offer and I may take you up on that at some point. Right now I have a lot on the go and am in the process of writing a children's book about my little Henry. Someone encouraged me to do it a long time ago and I feel inspired now that he's passed away. I started it recently.

I could check out your blogg sometime if you'd like, Tommyg. :)

Hey Sherry everything is great. It rained here today which was nice, luckily the severe weather was east of here. I found more poms had sprouted and I'm soaking the Mexican Bird of Paradise seeds Janan sent. I made some Tamale pie in the slow cooker. My family seemed to enjoy it alot. I've been finding more healthy foods to cook in the slow cooker since my family's schedule changes a lot

The Hollyberry Lady
11-08-2011, 06:07 PM
By slow cooker do you mean a crock pot? I like them lots in the summer when it's too hot to have the oven on.

Yes I call it slow cooker because one of my friends didn't know what a crock pot was lol. I made taco soup the other night, which is one of my favorites. My mom and sister and I are going to plan what we are going to cook for Thanksgiving. Were definitely making more desserts this year. Last year me and my sister made a homemade cheesecake with raspberry sauce, this year she wants to make apple dumplings which are really good. My mom never could find my aunts recipe to bread pudding, she passed away several years ago and the recipes on the internet aren't even close

The Hollyberry Lady
11-08-2011, 06:22 PM
Oh yummy I love old recipes from Grandmothers and aunts. I come from a long line of good bakers and cooks.

So that taco soup sounds delicious. What's in it?

: )

Willow87
11-08-2011, 06:59 PM
Yes my aunt was a great cook and so was my grandma. We lost a lot of their recipes unfortunately. Taco soup has ground beef, kidney beans, black beans, corn, taco seasoning, onions, Rotel and diced tomatoes. I think there were some other things in it but you put sour cream and chopped green onions on top. The juice from the corn and beans makes the soup part. Its very good. I think a previous recipe used Italian dressing seasoning instead of Taco seasoning. I remember seeing your pictures under the what's for dinner thread. My mom is looking through the Southern Living magazines for recipes right now. My sister wants to make some type of alcoholic drink too. I remember the Strawberry Daiquiri she made last year with fresh strawberries. It was really good

The Hollyberry Lady
11-08-2011, 09:07 PM
Does that ever sound delicious, Cam. I wanna make that now too! :ha:

Good afternoon everyone. Sherry I found some crock pot recipes for chili that I want to try. I can't seem to chose which one though lol. The Tamale pie has been a favorite of my family now. I've cooked it twice already. Sherry I posted some pictures of my Thanksgiving cactus bloom in the Succulent and Cacti thread. Yug are you up working somewhere?

Cam will be up soon I know he is an early riser. That is a gorgeous blossom on your Thanksgiving cactus! I have a few tiny little buds on a few of my plants - they are some I bought after they put them on sale last year so I don't know the color on them yet. I hope I don't have blossom drop, if I don't I've got one that has a bunch on it. I will try to get a picture this morning.

So how's everyone's day going? I think I might make sticky honey garlic spareribs tonight. Just hanging out taking some shots right now. Here's a good one I got today of one of Janan's marbles...

What day is your birthday, Janan? Hope you have fun at the party! :birthdaynana:

Good morning gang! So nice that Bob has joined us again in the aero-garden thread! I finally got him to get his system going again and join us. He's gonna grow all hot peppers this time around. Can't wait to see his stuff.

So I yook the little pot of colorado blue spruce tree seeds out of my freezer. Can't wait for sprouts!

Happy Saturday gang. :D

It's sunny and gorgeous here today...and no snow!!! :woohoonaner:

Happy surprise party! :D :goteam::woohoonaner::birthdaynana:

Patience is a good thing ;)

No snow yet either :D :woohoonaner:

The Hollyberry Lady

Snow is only good in December...after that it's useless! :ha:

So I sowed a Filius Blue in my A-G today. It's gonna be one cool pepper plant with purple/blue fruits that ripen red.

We agree on something else again! :ha: Snow is only good in December for the holidays. After that its worthless.

Got all of my sacred water lotus dug up and cleaned up. Because I don't have a place where they wouldn't freeze, they are going in a tupperware container in my refrigerator ;) :ha::ha::ha::ha::ha:

I thought they would be more like a single root system them the leaves came from that. It was more like some weird vine underwater that spread for feet! :ha:

I got arch linux installed on my ipaq, and it works! :D

I didn't know it though and the Arch Linux OS has no graphics or desktop at first boot..... I had to install every single little thing I wanted! Oh well, it looks how I want it to now ;) I installed XFCE for the desktop. Then clamav, chkrootkit, rkhunter for security. And then libreoffice and a couple text editors

The Hollyberry Lady
11-12-2011, 06:40 PM
That's the tuber, on your lotus Jordan. Handle with care because it can be very brittle and if it snaps, the lotus will die!

I was looking through old pictures tonight and I came across this utterly adorable one of Henry. Remember this one?

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/2nd%20album/DSCI3195.jpg

He was tired after a shower and decided to have a little nap while I was toweling off and brushing my teeth! :ha: I think it's my favorite shot of him because it's just so utterly precious and cute.

Gosh I miss that bird.

Very cute pictures, yes I remember it very well :D

The fact that you still remember him and miss him shows how good of an owner you were :)

Just got a sago palm from the store :D its cute :D Will show some pictures later.

I was very careful with the tubers of my lotus, don't worry :) Only one did end up in half and that was because it rotted a bit in the middle.

Where I was in the ER Monday and didn't get a chance to get them inside they froze a bit and rotted in a couple places. Overall they look ok though :)

The Hollyberry Lady

I have a blogger blog also! We should follow each other! :D

Mine is Exotic Michigan (http://www.jreidsma.blogspot.com/)

Heres my new sago palm:

It was just so cute I had to get it ;) And for only ten dollars it wasn't that badly priced either :)

EDIT:
Hmmm... for some reason I can't follow your blog, and quite a few of the things on mine aren't showing up correctly. Maybe they will tomorrow.

The Hollyberry Lady

Yes, we should follow each other on our blogs...that would be cool. ;)

Hope everyone's having a great Sunday.

If you read my thread I just made on the palm then you know what happened....

The store took such bad care of it that it had rotted, and was moving onto the inside of the plant. I cut it off and am going to try to root it with rooting hormone.

This is exactly what happened to my last sago, the store I bought it from over watered it drastically. this one looks a bit better so maybe it will root and be ok.

The Hollyberry Lady
11-13-2011, 07:33 PM
Sure hope it roots for you, Jordan. That would be cool.

Just loading some shots and thinking about sowing some seeds. I'm in the mood to germinate some plants. I was thinking of sowing another blue cornflower seed because I accidently killed the one in my aero-garden! It was gonna bloom soon too. I snapped the base of the plant while showering it. I knew I should have supported it more, but it was too late. :( Now I have to start over.

Hope your party went well Janan. :D Are ya hungover?! :ha:

Jananas Bananas

Hi Gang! :waving:

Well, yes I guess the party went well for the most part. No I am not hung over, I am not a drinker. :)

The guys spent most of the afternoon, working on plumbing. Due to the drought the ground shifted again and busted the water line coming from the road to the house. They had to locate and make repairs. Then today, we had another one and Greg and I had to do the same thing. :( So we have been very busy and have had our hands full!!!

Sorry about your new Sago Jordan. A lot of stores do that to plants. They have one person per shift assigned to "water the plants" - so often they are watered at least twice a day whether they need it or not - no matter what type of plant.

My birthday is on the 16th of the month - same day of the month as yours Sherry! :)

I haven't had a chance to do any update pictures. Everything is doing pretty well though. Put a few plants back outside because we are in the mid to upper 80's again. They seem to like it out there more than in the house.

Greg was going to take me out of town this week for my birthday, but with the pipe issues we may have to postpone it. Oh well, not anything we can do about it, sad to say! :(

I think supper is ready, so will check back in later! ~J

The Hollyberry Lady
11-13-2011, 08:35 PM
Great the party was a success. Hope the food was good and you had a piece of cake for me too. :ha:

Oh yes, I forgot, our birthdays are both on the 16th but on different months. So your b-day is in a few days! :birthdaynana: Please don't tell me you're buying another aero-garden for a present! :ha:

Hope you have a good dinner, Janan. Maybe you'll post what you're eating in my thread...since the rest of the snobs on this site never do.

Ok, gotta go sow one more seed in my aero-garden...

: )

Jananas Bananas
11-13-2011, 08:49 PM
Just you and I are the main picture posters on the dinner thread, but we sure do get thanked a lot for posting them and I'll bet make a lot of people hungry doing it! :ha:

I had chicken and dumplings tonight (not home made - but still very good - I was in a hurry tonight), which I didn't get a picture of. But I have taken a few pictures for posting to the dinner thread that I haven't yet so I will try to get a couple of those posted this evening.

I will take a picture of our dessert tonight though. Pumpkin Pie with whipped cream on top! :)

If I ever make or get anything decent looking I will post it ;) I usually eat Ramen noodles and macaronis though :ha::ha::ha:

tommyg
11-13-2011, 09:07 PM
ramen is decent with a little cayenne pepper and fresh scallions, small amount of curry powder too. It eat that from time to time.

Jananas Bananas
11-13-2011, 09:15 PM
Did I ever tell you how hubby fixes Ramen? He will cook the noodles as usual, but will pour all the water off. Use Ranch dressing stirred in with the seasoning packet. It is really good like that and it makes it like a noodle side dish. Sometimes with the chicken flavor he will serve it over a chicken breast. We eat a lot of Ramen also. :)

The Hollyberry Lady
11-13-2011, 09:48 PM
Never heard of those noodles but they sound yummy. I had honey garlic chicken with rice and snow peas but I forgot to get a shot tonight.

Janan, I am gonna send out some seeds your way in a short time. I thought you might like a few of those Filius Blue hot peppers. I sowed one in my A-G.

I was munching a few berries tonight and they were so tasty. I'm just tickled to pluck them from my little plant.

I'll also be eating these within a day or two...

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/3rd%20album/IMG_2828.jpg

Not to worry...I'll save some seeds Janan! :D

Jananas Bananas

Ramen I think are usually found in the pasta isle Sherry, or maybe by the Asian food or soups. The are like 20 cents or so a packet. It's usually a staple for college kids. :) They have different flavors like chicken, beef, shrimp, they have a spicy pepper one too you would probably like. The flavor packets taste a lot like bullion cubes to me.

What size are the Halm's Gelbe - a cherry tomato size? They sure are a beautiful color.

tommyg
11-13-2011, 10:05 PM
yup they are not healthy at all, but great when on a serious budget. Mostly I like the size and texture of the noodles. Perfect size for soup. Sometimes i'll make a hearty soup and put the noodles in there.

The Hollyberry Lady
11-13-2011, 10:26 PM
Oh you mean..."Mr Noodle"!!! :ha:

I didn't know what the heck you guys were talking about!

Yeah I don't eat them but I used to when I was younger. I don't like salty fake packets added to my food and would rather make my own homemade sauces and broths. Sometimes you're in a hurry though and can't take the time.

They are a large cherry tomoto size Janan...the Hahm's Gelbe. They are from Darr and she's a member here but I can't recall her screenname offhand. I think I sent her some pepper seeds in exchange. The plant is really pretty and I'm so glad I'm growing it. I have a feeling those little yellow balls are gonna be yummy.

I don't think my miracle fruit seed is gonna sprout. It's always covered in white fuzzy mold and I'm sick of cleaning it off. Today I was so mad I dumped peroxide on top of it! :ha:

I'm gonna try sowing a miracle fruit seed the good old fashioned way and a way I know best of all...in soil! :D I bet I can get one to germinate in soil.

There's hope yet for the banana passion flower seed. It's looking fat and swollen. I'm looking so forward to seeing it come up. Hope it does. I'll grow it as long as I can in the A-G and then pop it into a pot until Spring.

: )

Jananas Bananas

I knew you knew what it was!!! :ha: Yes like Tommy said not healthy, but quick easy and cheap! :ha:

I tried them in sterile seed starter soil too Sherry! Good luck! I am trying the damp paper towel and baggie right now!

I haven't had any luck with passion fruit either. I had that one forever from the two year old seed in one of the AG's and just loved it there. I just let it grow and grow and I tucked it around the other units. It was gorgeous! Spider mites got to it while I was traveling though. Wiped it out pretty quick! :(

The Hollyberry Lady
11-13-2011, 11:02 PM
Yeah, the plants really gotta be showered and misted regularly to not get overtaken by mites. I hate those buggers! Now that I'm back home, they don't stand a chance.

Ok yeah, I'll try two in soil and 2 in a moist paper towel Janan...the miracle fruit seeds. There's gotta be a way to get these babies to sprout.

Time to take some shots of some seedlings...

Ok I will check it out, Tommy. I did three new posts on my blog last night as well. How do we subscribe to each other's blogs? I'm new to all of this but love it.

Will we gets emails when someone posts something new on a blog we're subscribed to?

Jordan, what's your blog site address? I liked your suggestion earlier about following each other. I just don't know how to do it yet.

See my Venus Flytrap?

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/3rd%20album/IMG_2880.jpg

I've kept it going for three months now. Two of those months it was at the cottage. It's even caught a couple gnats. It's sending up new traps from the center of the plant constantly.

Willow87
11-14-2011, 02:46 PM
LOL yes its unusually warm here, I'm ready for the cold weather. Your venus fly traps look great. I had one of those a few years ago and I killed it after a couple of weeks

The Hollyberry Lady
11-14-2011, 03:01 PM
Thanks, Cam. I sure hope I can keep it going over the winter too. I kept one alive once for over a year. I give it nothing but spring water.

Wonder if a venus flytrap plant would thrive in the A-G since they naturally grow in bogs. Now there's an idea. I'm afraid to kill mine though so not sure if I'll try it until I come across a 2nd plant somewhere.

Glad I stayed home today because it's raining now. Tomorrow is supposed to be super sunny.

The Hollyberry Lady
11-14-2011, 03:17 PM
It is pretty happy right now, that's for sure. I have it in a deep glass vase with a lid over half of the top. It's such a cute plant. I try not play with the traps too much because they die quicker if you do and it takes a lot of the plants' energy. It's caught a few gnats I noticed a couple times though. Must be why I never see any around.

I'm reading my camera manual and loading pictures...

Willow87

I saw some for sale at Lowe's the other day. I need something like that by my houseplants because I'm starting to see gnats again. I read that peroxide and water kills the larva in the soil so I'm going to try that to see if the gnat population declines

The Hollyberry Lady
11-14-2011, 05:26 PM

Sherry, my Little Blue is only an inch and a half tall. Should I pinch off those buds? Surely it cannot make peppers that tiny can it? I am so worried about it, since I have really had to struggle just to get one past the sprouting stage!!! It hasn't grown taller though it has put on a few more leaves.

That Venus Fly trap is very cool. I have had them before but I always kill them.

I believe it got to 89 here today. We are actually supposed to get some rain tomorrow!!!!

ya you can't post unless you sign in. That depends on the blogger's settings.
On my blog below my picture it should say join this site.

Making a blog is simple with blogger.com Everything is setup for you as templates, but you can also go and edit the code if you want so it is very flexible.

Sherry, make sure to activate google analytics so you can see when you get traffic, from where, what times, where they are viewing ..... It is a google product. So you use the same login as you use for blogger.

The first blossoms may fall off anyway Janan, so don't worry. All pepper plants get buds on them when they're "too small", so don't worry about it and just watch the show. The plant will continue to grow and get more leaves, branches and buds. It sure is a cutey, Janan.

Oh I thought you were on the same sight as Tommy and I are on, Jordan. I find it pretty easy and straightforward for the most part. I'm just new at it but I'm learning as I go along. I like how easy it is to post shots too.

Ok Tommy, I'll check it out. Not sure I know exactly what you mean yet.

Cool that Bob posted in the aero-garden thread today, eh? He's growing all of my hot pepper varieties I sent him. I gave him one called Fluorescent Purple, Janan....but I lost track of it. I'll get some seeds back from Bob for us. You'll love it!!! :goteam:

Google analytics is a powerful tool to see how your site is viewed in cyber space. Blogger has its own tracking service which is probably good enough for most people.

I myself am learning SEO, Search engine optimization , and finding ways to create more traffic to my blog and my website.

I'd say disregard my google analytics idea unless you are trying to make a business or money from your blog. Sorry about that.

tommyg
11-14-2011, 08:30 PM
The great thing about us having blogs and working on them is that we can create a small coalition. We can each offer somewhat expert advice from experience and refer "our readers" to each other to learn more about gardening. The more followers, the more views, the more views the more comments, the more comments the more eye balls on our sites, and the more of that the more we can actually help others out there garden themselves. So a win, win for everyone.

The Hollyberry Lady
11-14-2011, 08:33 PM
Nope, I just did it for fun...and to share information. :D It's like having your own little site.

Hoping you guys will all create blogs on the same site as Tommy and I and we can all follow each other's. That would be cool.

11-14-2011, 08:40 PM
I'm going to check it out.
yes blogs are fun if you keep up with it.
Over time you get readers who come back to see what you're up to.
Or people searching for information on something specific and land on your page.
When i did my fruit and plant research about 70% of the information I found was from blogs, a lot on forums and some on company sites looking to sell and educate at the same time. Blogs are a powerful resource.

It's true because I've been using this screenname for a long time and sometimes when I look up certain plants on the internet, my name is there with links to garden sites and my pictures are shown too! It's pretty neat.

: )

tommyg
11-14-2011, 08:52 PM
There are two other good things you can do to get more visibility to your blog. When you are posting pictures in your post click on the picture. This will give you more settings. I think one says caption. You can add a caption that is directly linked to the photo. This way when someone goes online and types that name they may find your picture. The search bots can not identify images unless they are named. So try that out on your pictures. Name them and with enough hits they'll start popping up on search engines as an example of the word you chose.

I know when I go online I want to see what a fruit or plant looks like I type the name and the picture pops up. Without a label it is just a jpg file or whatever.

Another tip. Under every post (when editing) you'll see something that says label and a place to enter stuff. This is a good way to organize your posts so people can search for what they want. So if you write about germination, and tomatoes, you might want to type those two words there. Then someone viewing your site can click on tomatoes and it will pull up all articles with that label or "keyword" in it. So if you get into a habit of adding labels to all your posts that helps the viewer find the information they are looking for.

Just some tips. Hope that helps.

If you look at my blog on the right I have a list of tags. Those are all my labels.

See what I mean?

The Hollyberry Lady

Although it was difficult at first, I finally posted on your blog, Tommy! Maybe you'll post on mine sometime...so I don't feel so all alone there. ;)

Wish you'd join too, Janan. I'd join your blog if you had one and post lots. We have the same interests. :D

Ok so yes those tips do help very much, Tommy. Thanks for being so helpful. I like people like that. ;)

I seem to recall it didn't take too long whenever I mailed your seeds before Jordan...within a couple weeks. So glad you got the baskes and you'll be good to go.

Funny that some braindead moron was implying that I don't pull through on my seed mailings! An absolute joke among jokes because I'm known on many gardening forums for my generosity and endless seed sharing. Not that I need to defend myself to someone who is obviously speaking directly through their arse, but it just makes me laugh. :ha:

Thanks for the pics, Jordan! Love that first one!

I love sky pictures.

Wow I think you commented on my blog Jordan! You're so nice...thank you. ;)

If any of you guys start a blog, I will post and follow it as well. It could be really fun and our blogs could be educational to lots of people trying to get good gardening advice...other than lame internet links and textbook advice. Actual gardeners who have hands-on experince...like we all do. :)

So I was thinking of taking a shot or two in a few minutes. Tonight I am eating my first Hahm's Gelbe tomato from my aero-garden! :goteam:

Haha.. maybe I don't know. I'm going to start using flash when taking my pics in the afternoons, much better color although the shadows are deep.

Today I found a small sprout growing in my bunching onion container. I doubt its bunching onion and just wondering what it is and what seed was in there. I guess I'll have to keep an eye on it.

Also, I posted an update video last night of my banana plants on my blog.
Check it out.

Hey you guys! :waving:

Sorry, but I've been a bit busy. Hope all is well and you are enjoying the weekend. The sun is shining here today and it's not snowing so this is a good thing.

I just thought I'd post and show a few shots, but I'm going shopping for a new winter coat today and gonna get an iPad too.

Hope to be on later and show you some more pics. I'm gonna start a new thread later too with some new photos, but I'm working on more. :goteam:

Hope you guys have a super day. ;) Miss you all. Chat soon...

I hope you can find some too Janan. I love Thanksgiving cactus plants too, I saw one called 'Aspen' when I was searching Google. It had a very frilly flower on it.

Jananas Bananas
11-19-2011, 06:34 PM
I really don't need any more. I think I have about 8 or 10 plants. But I want a blooming one. I just went to check on mine and I do have one that is fairly close to blooming. It might make it by Thanksgiving. The others are all behind the big one. So if I don't find a new one that I just HAVE to have, maybe my old ones will fill the bill! :)

A frilly one sounds really pretty Cam! What color was it?

Willow87
11-19-2011, 06:47 PM
I wish my red TC would bloom but I don't even see any buds. Its developing new segments. The Aspen one was white with a pale pink center.

I've had a busy day...shopping. :ha:

I did not find a winter coat yet and have to go back out tomorrow. I did get an iPad though!!! I haven't checked it out yet but it's wickedly cool and I can't wait to use it. There's no keyboard at all...it's all touch screen!

So yeah the winter coat selection was pathetic. Totally depressing colors...mostly blacks, greys, and browns. Yuck. :(

Your cactus blooms are gorgeous, Cam! Thanks for sharing. ;)

Does anyone else have an iPad? Omg they're totally awesome!

I gotta go back out shopping today because I had no luck finding a winter coat, and snow is a coming! I could just wear my coat from last year but I want a new one. Hopefully I'll find something today.

How's everyone's Sunday going so far?

Tommy, I'll be mailing your seeds off late tonight. They won't go out until tomorow morning anyway, so I've got the day.

Jordan, hoping your seeds arrive next week for you. ;)

I have my own ipod touch 4th generation 32GB. And I have an ipaq 2 16GB from school. We all got one in high school this year to use.

They are pretty cool! :D ;) :)

Makes me want one that is actually mine, my ipod touch looks tiny now.

I found this cool thing coming out next month called an "raspberry pi". It's a tiny computer about the size of a credit card! And they are selling them for $25-$35! I will be getting one.

Hi gang,

I got the iPad 2, so it's the latest. I got 32GB but I'm thinking of returning it and getting the 64GB.

This thing is way too cool. I'm loving it. I was using it today at the grocery store because it had my shopping list on it!

I got the black one, not the white one because the salesguy told me the white one tends to turn yellowish over time. I also got a black leather case for it.

So happy I picked one up. Apple is awesome. I gotta get some more apps but I'm just reading the manual still.

My mom has an iPod touch. I bought it for her in the summer. She loves it and uses it all the time...especially for music.

Ok Tommy, just to let you know, I mailed your seeds off today so you should get them within a couple weeks. Our mail service is slow. I meant to mail them last night but it was just too late by the time I got home. No worries, they're on they're way. :)

The Hollyberry Lady
11-21-2011, 09:32 PM
No, do not be concerned. They'll be here. It's just that our mail service is slow and they take their sweet time sorting and delivering them.

Keep in mind, we're in different contries. I'll let you know the very day they get here though. :)

So do you use your iPod a lot for tunes Tommy?

: )

tommyg
11-21-2011, 09:45 PM
My ipod? Yup it is almost permanently in my car. I have tons of music on it.
I used to do more with it, but I enjoy my tablet (samsung galaxy) for internet, and all other media. I'm curious why you are interested in getting a larger capacity tablet. Do you put a lot of videos on it? A ton and I mean a ton of music will only fill about 8 gigs total. Apps are tiny maybe 500 megabytes if you have a lot and music, with a lot about 2 gigs.
But, whatever works best for you.

Jananas Bananas
11-21-2011, 09:45 PM

I always used my IPod for audio books. I could take it anywhere and still listen to my books! I haven't used it in a long time. Mine is OLD compared to all you guys'!!!

The Hollyberry Lady
11-21-2011, 10:08 PM
Yeah I might go a little nuts with videos and movies and don't want to have to worry about space. It's only a hundred bucks more to double what I have now.

Cool that you have an iPod too Janan. My mom loves hers. Maybe you should upgrade yours.

jreidsma

My ipod stays pretty much in my Ihome speaker thing most of the time. Unless I am playing some games or something.

I always go for the most space I can get ;) Even if it is not needed. I stuck with the 32GB though on my ipod because I didn't have the extra money to get the 64GB :ha::ha::ha:

I might look around ebay and amazon some and see how much it would take to build a netbook or laptop with the raspberry pi I am going to buy ;)

Good news, my micro toms in my AG are sprouting. The new root is coming out of them. Maybe tomorrow they will be poking up our of the sponge and I will be able to get a picture of them.

Oh, and also I have this week off of school for Thanksgiving. I go back Monday though :(

The Hollyberry Lady
11-21-2011, 10:34 PM

I'm pretty pumped. Just learned of a new gardening place that's close to my house. They are supposed to have tons of gardening equipment. And a lot of seeds and things like that. I'll have to visit this weekend and see what kinds of things they have. I think they have aero gardens, trellises, hanging gardens, atc. They are called worm's way and I believe they are in a couple states. Has anyone been before?

No luck yet on the miracle fruit seeds, Janan. Not even the ones in a moist paper towel on my heatmat are coming up. Blasted things. I want one real bad. Gonna keep trying...

I keep getting nothing but yellow chard coming up! I just continue to pull them out and start another seed. :ha:
