Good Morning Gang! :waving:
Those pictures are so beautiful Sherry! I agree with Cam, you should just move there. No sense paying rent at two different places. Especially when you love one so much and come to hate the other!
Cam you must have totally fallen in love with Daturas! I love them too, but really, what don't I love when it comes to plants? :ha:
Jordan, the man I got the stapelia from simply called it the "stink" plant. It reminding me of the one Sherry has so I got some of it. The flower is a little different than Sherry's so I know it is a different type because he did have one blooming. If I am remembering the flower correctly it looks like the stapelia variegata Stapelia variegata | Flickr - Photo Sharing! (http://www.flickr.com/photos/armorelscilly/2204000643/) . Hope that helps!

Hi,
Thanks :) I am looking forward to when it flowers, but then kind of not at the same time :ha:
Sherry, are you sending out my 3 aerogarden sponges when you come back in October then?
Glad you like it there so much :) looks like a very nice place to be :)
My computer is hating me right now. I usually run forums and a game I play, but for som reason the game is slowing my computer down really badly. I am typig stuff on here and it is taking it a minute or more to show up. So I might not be posting much for a little bit. I need to find out whats going on. I don't have a virus or anything, and everything is working perfectly....
Hope everyone is having a nice timsorry for so many typos, the computer is running very slowly and i can't go back and fix them... will be back with a answer hopefully.

I have fallen in love with daturas lol. Ever since my one outside bloomed. I'm glad I have the more ornamental ones. Here is a seed pod on my datura that bloomed last week.

Pretty wicked looking seedpod isn't it? :ha: There will be hundreds of seeds in one pod too.
I cleaned out my Extra Tall AG this morning and restarted some new seeds. One is a Triple white datura. They are pretty old seeds, but I will see if they will do anything. I put two seeds in it. My datura are one of the few things that seem to make the transition from AG to soil very well. Neither of mine seem to have a wilt period like the other stuff I have take out of it. They haven't blossomed for me yet though.

The seedpods look so cool. I probably won't be saying that once I pick them lol. I didn't know there was a triple white datura. I will probably have to grow mine as houseplants, hopefully they will live through the winter.

Datura's are awesome! :ha: I have some seeds for the double purple ones. Maybe I should plant a couple more soon.
The seed pods are pretty cool, I haven't seen one in person though. I bet that it might hurt a bit when picking it :ha:
Stapelia flowers are one of the weirder things I have seen for a while. They stink and kind of look like rotting stuff but then again have some weird sense of beauty to them :ha:
Mom is making CHILI! :goteam:
The problem with my computer was that the java update I did a couple days ago didn't update correctly. So the computer screwed itself up. I fixed it though.
Windows with more of its problems :ha:

The seed pods on the ornamental daturas are not thorny like that. These are from my double purple.
This is what it looks like right after the flower fall off.

Wow Janan those seed pods look so pretty. I guess I'm going to have to wear gloves when I pick the seed pod from my datura. A couple of people are wanting seeds from it on PlantSwap. I look forward to seeing my Double Yellow and Triple purple blooms. The seeds that I planted outside havent sprouted yet, though when I soaked them, they sprouted roots. Chili sounds so good right now. I had some grilled chicken breast on grilled Texas toast with cheese and sauerkraut and some cajun chips on the side. It was really good

Both your dinners sounds extra yummy! I love chili with saltines and Texas toast with grilled chicken! Mmmmmmmm Mmmmmmmmm! You are making me hungry again. I had a dill pickle sandwich on wheat bread with cheesy potato chips for lunch. But it is almost supper time! :ha:
Cam I actually have seeds from the Datura that is growing in the gardens of Ernest Hemingway, did I ever tell you that? I always thought that was really cool! :)

Cam, this is my Hemingway datura that I started from seed in the AG. I like that the stem is dark purple and stays that way. It is about a foot and a half tall right now and I guess I started the seed this past Spring.

Great plants, gang! :waving:
Woops sorry about that Jordan...yup I can mail ya some sponges when I get home. I didn't know you had an aero-garden?
I also have a cool grow bulb for you that you can screw into a desklamp. Remember I told you about it?
We didn't really intend on extending our vacation this long but it's just what we needed. Now the rent is so cheap because of off-season, that it's merely pocket change! This is a little house is what it is, with absolutely everything, even a fireplace!
I would like to move here but I'm not sure if it's realistic. Besides that, winters here will be way harsher than London, being beside the lake. It's just a fantasy really but I'm not sure if it could be a reality. The man I'm renting from did offer for me to stay for the winter however and gave me a good monthly price as well. I've got some thinking to do...
So it's kind of weathery out but this is the best time for pics...I thought I'd head to the lake for a bit and see what I can shoot. Be back later...

I have had a aero garden for quite some time now. Remember I got it at a garage sale for 50 cents, then we set up a little trade for some sponges, the light bulb you had, and maybe a aero garden 3 light bulb. And then once it warmed up I would send you something or maybe order you something from seedrack.com like we did last year.
The beach cottage does sound pretty cool :) Too bad I don't like water :ha:
Maybe if you moved by the lake it would be more Michigan-like :ha: All these goofball lakes everywhere. :ha:
My purple datura had purple stems. It only made it a couple inches tall though :ha:
The datura's leaves remind me a lot of some egg plants and similar plants. But then the purple stem sets them apart ;)
I might be getting a bunch of computer items off craigslist from someone in Kalamazoo :) Waiting for the reply back.

Yes, I think we could arrange that Jordan. No problem. ;) I won't make promises but I'll see about mailing it all out before I return home so you won't have to wait so long.
Going to London tomorrow. It's my grandmother's birthday and I have plants to water and fertilize. Today turned yucky and rainy on us but still warm and not too windy.
Yes, you and your family should rent a cottage Cam. It's too fun and cool. You can swim whenever you want to. Tonight if the rain stops, we might have another campfire and roast some marshmallows.
How come you don't like water, Jordan? I almost seriously drowned, twice in my life when I was a kid, but it didn't change how much I love water and I was never afraid of it. I took lessons and became a great swimmer...even a lifeguard!!!

I just kind of don't like getting wet at all :ha: My friends tease me a bit about being "cat like" in many different ways. Maybe that's why I like cats so much. In fact, my one friend says that "Jordan won't like anyone unless they have a tail and cat ears" :ha: Aren't some people creative?
Back in fourth grade we had a swimming class, and this was back when my acid reflex and panic attacks first started. So you can picture the problem with feeling like you have the flu and having a panic attack about little things. And the teacher would take you to the deep end and shove you under water so you "got used to the water rushing over your face"..... Now I have panic attacks if someone tries to teach me how to swim. Yet another thing in life someone else has screwed up.
I think it is more of a "I just don't like water" type of thing though. I don't like the cold feeling or anything :ha: Hard to explain.... and there's too many people at the beach....
Do you need my address again? It's been a while sense we traded. Once it warms up again we will see what I can find you. Seedrack has more new stuff, or there's ebay/amazon, or a multitude of other places I know of ;) I might accidentally get myself something to :ha:
I have enough chili to last a week! :D And my parents went to Red Lobster (the restaurant) and brought me back a couple dozen of the garlic cheese biscuit things.

Good Morning Gang! :waving:
What a charming cottage Sherry! No wonder you are having the time of your life with such a nice place to stay - let alone right on the beach with all that gorgeous scenery.
Still no rain for me though south of Austin in San Marcos, had a down pour last night. It is supposed to be cooler today and the weather man is saying no more triple degree days until next year. I hope he is right. I have a ton of plants that I need to clean dead leaves off - I had left them on to protect the pups somewhat. I have so many I will probably be busy most of the day. I want to get started fairly early this morning while it is still in the 70's. :) Fall is my favorite time of year.
Greg was able to get the killer raccoon finally. It killed 7 of my chickens before my hit man got him. :2723: I hate having to do that, but it was that or continue to lose my chickens one by one.
Well, I am off to trim my plants! Maybe I can take some pretty pictures of them when I am done.
Have a great Friday, everyone!!!!

Good morning everyone Janan it rained for 30 mins here, the sad thing is that despite the thunder and the soaking rain, you couldn't even tell it rained here last night. The power went out for 10-15 mins too. I hope we are done with the hot weather too. I think the weather pattern may change next week which means rain here. I hope that's right. This year has been really brutal. I'm sorry to hear about your chickens. I found 3 more plumeria sprouts this morning. I decided to bring them indoors since its going to be very cool the next several days. I'll put them back outside when the temps warm up during the afternoon.

Hi Cam! Even though you haven't gotten a lot of rain it is so much more than I have had at my house.
Just watched a coyote running down the fence line this morning. I didn't have my camera or I would have tried to take a picture. They eat chickens too, but we know it was the raccoon because he was caught red handed.
Those plumeria sprouts are so cute. Are those in your floating tray coming up too? That one little plumeria looks just like a big one only tiny. I love seeing sprouts come up! :)
Well, I trimmed about a dozen bananas this morning. But I am done for now. I slept wrong last night and have a crick in my neck going down into my shoulder and it became very painful, so I didn't trim as many plants as I wanted to. ~J

Hi Janan, I guess I should be thankful I got some rain. My mom said she even heard hail and I can see a little hail damage on some of my plants. I've seen so many coyotes around here and some are very large. I've always been afraid to go outside during the early morning or early evening hours.
I love seeing the little plumeria sprouts because they look like little succulents. I planted the ones floating in water in soil and I found more albino seedlings. Those usually don't make it, but I'm giving them a chance. I was only successful with 4 plumerias out of 20. A friend is sending me some more and I'm going to try planting them in cactus soil and there is another germination method by using wet paper towels folded in a baggie. So I may try that method too.
I miss my bananas, but I told my mom if she could get me a couple next year. I couldn't believe how many plants I lost this year, especially my established cannas that I've had for several years. I hate getting cricks in my neck and luckily I haven't experienced one in a long time

I didn't mean a broken down shack :ha: I meant one of the nicer wooden houses. There's some very nice ones around here :)
We got a lot of rain yesterday and still ongoing today. The ran is good, but bad when you have to walk across multiple schools during th day to get to your classes, while carrying a Ipad the school gave you to use....
By albino you mean the white ones right? They don't grow the needed chlorophyll, any at all or maybe not enough. I was thinking one night that it would be cool if there was some sort of way to inject the glucose they make in photosynthesis, because when their white they can't produce enough. One of my crazy ideas :ha:

Those pictures of the waves look so refreshing Sherry. You are so lucky to be near the beach. Jordan that would be a very cool idea, it probably would have saved quite a few plumeria seedlings lol. I talked to my friend and she said that some of her seeds do the same thing, they come out all white. I guess there isn't anything that can be done about it. I know sometimes they will green up but mine havent. I have 2 right now that are almost completely white but the tips have a little green so I'm going to see if they survive.

Yeah, campfires are the best...and not something I would normally get to enjoy, so this is very special to me. I learned how to build a campfire years ago in GirlGuides, and enjoy adding the wood and stoking the fire. It's just such a peaceful and relaxing activity. I enjoy the smell and sound of the crackling wood and embers.
I also love to roast marshmallows, and weiners too if I'm hungry enough. We found these extra giant marshmallows recently that are absolutely huge! They're actually called 'campfire marshmallows'. I like 'em better than the smaller kind.
So I think my nephew and his baby daughter might be coming down next weekend, maybe. The baby is 8 months now and was born on my birthday!!! The mother too, shares our birthday also! Think I mentioned it before, but how incredible is that?! I was shocked when my nephew told me and so was my mom. Like what are the chances of that happening!
I'm now a great aunt!!! Makes me feel old but the truth is I became and aunt at 14 years old!
I might go to the beach at 6:30 to catch the beginnings of the sunset, but it's not dark completely until 8:00 - 8:30. I like getting there early and seeing all there is to see. The sunsets are different each day.
It been raining on and off today but not super hard. Just sprinkling and it's very bright and sometimes sunny out. If there are lots of clouds at the beach tonight though, I won't see any of the sun.
Gonna call my mom too and see how she's doing in London.
Found a much faster way to load shots now so I've been posting a few. :2738: More to come...

Oh yes, my mom will be here. She wouldn't miss a chance to spend time with her grandson and great granddaughter for all the world! This is my brother's son and his new baby that will be coming, and as you know, my bro is deceased. :(
I know what you mean about not seeing certain family members for awhile. Sometimes people think they have a right to take children in families away from other family members when someone dies, as is the case in my own family with certain people. It's sad though, and I hear it happens all the time. Not right and not fair. What worse is that the children are hurt by it most of all, while adults are trying to get back at other adults and using kids to do it.
Ok, I gotta split for a bit but it's not the greatest out weather-wise so I may be back at the cottage before too long. Might not be able to have the campfire either if it keeps sprinklin...but there's always tomorrow. :D
Glad you like the pics. More soon...

Sherry,
When is the best time to visit your area. My company wants me to spend a few weeks in our burlington office. I definitely don't want to go in the winter since I'm not a winter sports kind of person. Is there a better time than others to visit the area?

Tom!
Where ya been stranger?! I was wondering if you were ever gonna come back and chat with us! Nice to 'see' you again.
Ok well, I wouldn't come in the dead of summer...too muggy and hot. Early to mid spring would be a nice time, and so would late summer to mid-Fall. If you love heat though, come in July!!! :2709:
You gonna go see the Falls? :08:
Gotta go for a bit...

Thats terrible Sherry. My dad's side of the family has never liked my mom or me and my siblings. Its really sad. My grandma passed away last week. She was my dad's mom. Me and my family didn't go to her funeral because my mom would have been too stressed out from the long trip over there

Yeah, you really see people's true colors when someone dies, unfortunately.
Sorry to hear about your grandma, Cam! :(
My grandmother just turned 83 on the 27th!!! I hope she sticks around for many years to come.
Well no fires tonight unless it's in the fireplace. Too wet and rainy. Tomorrow's supposed to be nice though. Might go to Mackies for some homefries and eat them on the beach tomorrow. This is Mackies...
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/3rd%20album/IMG_0998.jpg
It's on top of the beach and it's been around for years and years. At this time of year though it's only open on weekends.
So I'm not sure what to do tonight. Someone a few doors down invited me to a big cottage party. I might see if the girl next door is going.
I called my mom in London and she's on her computer playing video games!!! :ha: Too funny.
My nephew called and we're having him and the baby down for next weekend. We're all very excited and might even go for a boat ride. I just can't wait to get my hands on the baby. She's utterly adorable and she looks like my nephew. My nephew is just like my brother. :D
I'm trying to find some shots I want to load...

You are right about death bringing out people's true colors. I don't have any living grandparents now. I hate that you couldn't make a campfire. My mom loves playing computer games lol. I hope you have fun with your nephew and his baby. I'm not an uncle yet lol

Sorry about that but the girl from next door stopped by and asked me if I was invited to the party a few doors down! Too funny because I was gonna go ask her the same thing. People are super friendly around here, and this other lady brought us homemade cookies this morning!
Gotta go get ready because I'm meeting Kayla out front in 20 minutes. I'll sign on later when I get back to the cottage.

Sorry, I got yet another migraine on the way out to eat from the pet store. So I had to go home and stay in bed for a while.
Some of my family has some.... unwanted traits. And then I don't get to see the rest as they stay away too much.
Some of your pictures seem so much like around here, all the trees and hills.

Hope everyone's having a good weekend so far. I was just at the beach and over to Mackie's for some homefries. It was cool and overcast but now it's warming up and the sun's coming out.
Just lounging around the cottage for awhile. My mom is still in London and may spend the night again. I gotta cook a roast beef today, but not to eat. I stick it in the fridge when it's done and we use it for sandwiches. It should only take a couple of hours and I have some of my fresh Bay leaves to use.
Anyone around?

When I was cleaning one of my fish tanks, the puffer fish was gone. He is only about half an inch long so I though he buried himself in the sand. But almost 2 hours later he didn't come out. So we started looking around for him. And we found him behind the fish tank, out of water, and he was there the two hours we where waiting for him to come out. We put him back in the tank and he is swimming around and stuff now, maybe he will be ok. I didn't think he would make it after being out of water that long

Tough to say, Cam. They'll likely bloom but not as profusely, and they'll have to grow new buds once you cut them back.
There's always the option of transplanting them into pots too, keep in mind. ;)

Yes, I thought so too. It is an old tree and that is just one tree, not a cluster. Here is a little one close to it that may or may not be the same kind. The leaves or fronds look similar, but you can't see a trunk on the old one.
http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n580/JaNan16/IMG_20111015_144120.jpg
Does it look like a little palmetto? I don't know much about palms at all. It is hardy here. There are a lot of dead palms around here after this last winter, but you can see this one looks really thick and lush.
Willow87

Sherry thats a beautiful beach picture. Janan I don't know much about palms either I just know windmill and pygmy date palms lol. They both do look similar, but the smaller one does look like a palmetto, though I'm far from an expert lol. I think there is a palmetto native to Texas so maybe thats it. I have seen quite a few large windmill palms dead around here. That one week in February with record cold did most of them in. I had one years ago but it died

Yes, a knockout picture! I love the beach and I haven't been all summer this year. I usually go at least a couple of times every summer.
I got some of these too Cam. Enough to share of these. They are Burr Oak if you would like some. The leaves are huge and they are suppose to be the largest acorns on any oak. Though I seem to remember Olaf posting some somewhere that were huge, he picked up overseas somewhere. I can't remember what thread though.

I've never been to the beach, but I would love to go, though I would probably stay out of the water. Wow those Burr oak acorns are huge! I would love to grow one but I've never had luck growing acorns. Seems like those grow at the park, but I'm not sure
Jananas Bananas

I watched a couple of You tubes on how to get them to sprout. The guy put a whole bunch of them in a large pot then was going to transplant them when they came up. He said there was no reason to put one acorn in it's own pot when you can sprout a bunch. I thought it made sense so that's how I am going to try it.
These were just on the ground around the tree. I picked up every one I could find. I just thought that tree with those huge leaves was beautiful!

Ohhhhhhh! Sherry, I thought you were talking about those stubborn Miracle Fruit seeds. Are you starting them in medium? I never have been able to get any Hot Marbles to germinate. Either in the AeroGarden, seed starting medium, or damp paper towel in a ziplock. Zip, Nada, Zilch. Little Farts!!!! :ha:

Miracle Fruit? They have a very short embryo life Sherry. If you haven't already started any they won't be any good. From what I've read about 3 weeks to a month from picking. They won't even store in the fridge from what I've read. I think that is why they are so expensive.
The Hollyberry Lady
10-20-2011, 02:28 PM
I guess we'll see then, Janan...about the miracle fruit seeds.

Jordan it is not my business or anyone else's, so don't worry. It just makes ME worry that's all (just that Motherly instinct kicking in). Just remember what ever you share online be it here or facebook or anywhere else, the world can read. :)
That sure is true Sherry! I remember all those fermenting tomato seed links I sent you! :ha: And if anybody can get a seed to produce you can, I don't have any doubts about that! :ha: I think that may be why they are rumored to be difficult to grow from seed though. As soon as I got one to sprout I thought wow, that was easy - but then I have not got another one to yet. So.....I don't know. :(

Do the Cherimoya and sunrise cactus seeds need planted right away also? And then whats a good way to do them, or are they just like other seeds?
I don't really know what the cherimoya are, I will have to google them and find out. I know they are a tree, but that's all I could find last time.
Hope everyone is having a nice day :)
Jananas Bananas
10-20-2011, 07:36 PM
Cherimoya, in my opinion is THE BEST fruit in the world!!!! You probably don't know what a Piña Colada tastes like, but that is what it tastes like to me. I LOVE them. I have read that if kept dry they will store up to two years. I have read they are really easy to sprout, but they have been hard for me. That probably wasn't the most practical of seeds to send you but thought you might like to try to bonsai it.
I would think the cactus seeds would store well also, but I am not sure. I have the plants so I haven't tried to germinate the seeds.
Those darned Miracle Fruit seeds are expensive too. $2 per seed! I have been very disappointed with them. I should have just bought a bush instead! :(
jreidsma
10-20-2011, 07:54 PM
:ha: Maybe I will keep the cherimoya a while and see if I get more room soon or something. I just got a bunch of adeniums and might be gettign quite a few new pachypodiums soon, so I might not have room to grow them right now.
Can't wait for the dragon fruit you sent me to start growing :) They are very stubborn right now, the one doesn't even have roots yet.

The Hollyberry Lady
10-22-2011, 10:10 PM
Thanks, Jordan.
Not long enough, Cam! :(
He was only six but he could have lived for many years. I feel so cheated, losing him this soon, with no warning. The hardest part is not really knowing what happened to him. He got the best of care from me and I always made sure he was comfortable and well looked after. That's what makes this even more baffling. It's why I just had to have the autopsy done...to answer a lot of questions and solve the mystery. He was too special and important to me to not know what happened to him.
I miss him horribly and hate the silence now. Greg took Henry's death quite hard. He really loved him. I know you guys will miss his pictures and the stories.

Sherry, I read the pet thread and saw your autopsy results for little Henry. I am so glad you can have some piece of mind over it. I am still thinking about you and he every day. I love the LED hangars you got.
Jordan, when I sent your tomato seeds, did I put them in a pill bottle? I have looked everywhere trying to find your MicroTom seeds and wondered if I might have put them down in there together with the seed tomatoes. They are gone and I haven't sent anything to anyone else recently except Cam and just sent his this morning. Anyway, I am baffled.

Hi, guys!
Not to worry...I'm ok. ;)
I'm just sad that Henry is gone, but relieved that it was 'natural' causes. I worried that he might have got cold here and died of pneumonia but this wasn't the case.
Thanks about the hangers, Janan. Aren't they just too adorable. I had a few others I didn't have yet, ordered in. They arrived today so I'm going to pick them up within the hour.
I'm still at the cottage but going home today for good, later this afternoon. I have everything all packed up and ready to go. Gonna make one last trip to the beach.
Yesterday I saw some Canada Geese...
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/3rd%20album/IMG_2573.jpg
Looks like my vacation has come to an end. We could stay longer but it's time to get home. We've been here for over two months. Might come back for Christmas. :ha:
Hope you guys have a good day. Hard to go home without Henry. :(
I'll post some more shots before I log off...

I'm glad you are ok Sherry. I know its going to be hard returning home without Henry. I love Canadian geese and I've seen a few around here. I fed a whole flock of them in high school and they just circled around me and I got scared and just threw the bag of bread down and walked off lol. They are so much larger up close. There was one mean one in the group and he would bite the others to get to the bread. He was the one I was afraid of

I am not a member of gardenweb. I am rather busy on all the forums I am on now :ha: Bananas, plantswap, unusualplants.net, computer ocean, linuxforums, moonos forums, kororaa forums, and quite a few others.
If anyone wants the baby mother of a thousands just let me know :) Including you Cam ;)
The first place I joined was the UBC forums. But then we had that swap up of moderators and a bunch of stuff happened. It got me mad and now I don't even log in that often. I haven't posted for years on there.
Mom is making chili again! :woohoonaner:
Very cool picture Sherry :) Glad most of the trip was ok. Sorry how it ended though.

Hope all goes ok, and hope everyone has a nice day :)

I barely post on plantswap. I just like lurking for the most part lol. I love chili. Tomorrow since its going to be cold, I'm going to make some taco soup in the slow cooker. I think I wasn't giving my mother of thousands enough light and that may have caused its death. I didn't know anything about it then.

Thank you for sending them out. I almost forgot to plant my goji berry seeds lol. I'm so glad you sent some passiflora edulis seeds because mine had died earlier in the year. I definitely want to grow an edible passion vine. I'm also glad you sent the dwarf poms, I think I have the regular variety but the dwarf variety is better since it takes up less space. I'll be sure to post pics when things start sprouting

Hi, gang!
Made it home safe. Just showering some of my plants and taking a few shots here and there. I've been mostly unpacking my stuff from the cottage and getting settled in. Still have to dust some things.
There's a disturbance upstairs and it sounds like someone is angrily pounding on someone's door, over and over again. It's super loud and kinda scary. I thought it was the police because of how loud it is but there are no cruisers in the lot. Weird. My days of going out to investigate are over. I'll let the cops handle it if necessary. It's stopped for a bit.
Sad to be home but in another way, grateful. I missed my bed. I miss the beach though too. The weather is cold and gloomy here today. Staying in, cleaning and unpacking.
Chat soon...

I'll be moving out shortly, Cam. I've never had a use for unscrupulous types, and living around them really isn't fun. Luckily my apartment is a way to get peace and shut it all out for now, until I move.
This doesn't just sound like a fight though...more like domestic violence!!! Just a few minutes ago, it sounded like someone was kicking on their door! I might have to call the police. This is insane. My first day back and I see it's business as usual around here. Nothing's changed.

I'm glad you will be moving from that place soon. There always seems to be something bad happening around you. I probably would call the police. Your hollyberries look so pretty. I've seen several holly bushes around here that are producing berries. I love the hollies that just produce berried on bare branches, i think those are the prettiest. Thanks Jordan, I finally got something to grow in it after several failed attempts lol

Yes, I agree Cam about the fruiting bushes being the prettiest...but don't forget that a male with no berries is needed to pollinate the female fruit-bearing shrubs. ;)
Jordan, I wouldn't even send my dog (if I had one) after the hoods in here...because they'd likely kill it! Or STEAL it! :ha:

Yeah for awhile there it was really crazy. It's this guy above me...he has a friend who drinks a lot and then comes over. He once banged on my door...too drunk to realize he was at the wrong door. It was ridiculous. I also once saw him fall down a flight of stairs, trashed out of his mind! :ha: Some people.
He's up there now though at his buddy's place and every now and then I can hear him fall down! Like sober up already.

tbaleno, I actually just ran into a question :ha:
I just installed Bodhi linux, which uses enlightenment instead of gnome of KDE. And I installed docky, but how do I enable compositing on enlightenment? And then also for some reason I can't run Avast AV as it won't run avastgui?
Ok, so I found the compositor, but now it gives me the following message:
"Your screen is not in 24/32 bit display mode. This is required to be your default depth setting for the compositor to work properly"
I have multiple computers, one has windows 7 and the rest are linux :ha:
Thanks for offering help :) I am kind of new to linux, only been using it for a couple years. But I have quite a few sudo codes down now and can install what I want without resorting to google that much.
So it was drunk door attackers :ha: "like sober up already" :ha::ha::ha:
It's hailing here, looks nasty out and we might get snow later today or his week!
I already said my Halloween plans :ha: Turn the lights off, take off somewhere or either sit and eat everything :ha:
tbaleno
10-28-2011, 04:32 PM
Your screen is not in 24/32 bit display mode. Look for where you configure your video card. You are proably using a generic VESA driver instead of one for your card. Then you can set it to run 24 or 32 bit most likely (I am assuming your video card isn't ancient)
What happens when you try to run avastgui from a shell prompt?

Sounds like it is a tad out of date. I am going to guess it won't be able to handle the graphics of enlightenment. from a shell type glxinfo and look at the top where it says Direct rendering. I'm going to guess it might say No.

I built one, with 2004 parts and a P4 processor.
I have a imac g3, dell inspiron 7000 laptop, 2004 Compaq laptop, my windows 7 newer desktop, and just bought a couple more computers today :)
I just bought a hp620lx palmtop pc for $15 and now I am charging it, and both my hp660lx palmtops. And I also bought a ipaq desktop today at a garage sale. It has a pIII processor, 384MB RAM, 20GB hard drive, and has Windows XP right now. It is pretty fast for such low specs! I think Linux will be going on it though.
I might install a different type of linux other then Bodhi then. If enlightenment might be too much for it.
My African Mask alocasia just up and got webs all over it and white specs all over it :( So I guessed it was spider mites again. I treated every single plant I have twice, once today and once yesterday. Also just to find out almost all of my adeniums, pachypodiums, and jades had some weird type of root rot/root problems. I haven't watered some of them in weeks either, so I wonder why they did that.... I am trying to root them now though so maybe they just got some bug or something.
My parents bought me two bags of sour candy and a bag of hersheys kisses :ha: :D That's my Halloween, lol. It last a while though ;)
Zeeland and Holland here have a parade for every single little thing they can. We have the "tulip festival" which is a large parade with tulips as their main point.

Hi guys. We just got power back. It was off for about 16 hours. We ended up getting a foot of snow. The bad thing was that most of the trees didn't drop their leaves yet so the snow built up on all the branches. I now know why some trees lose their leaves in the winter. Lots and lots of downed trees. My back yard looks like a hurricane went through. The tree removal companies are going to clean up, pun intended. I took a picture of my plum tree and posted it in the images thread.

I am cringing to think that will be us in just a few short weeks.
Oh gawd I miss it so bad Janan! I keep picking up the phone to call Gord and let him know we'll be back within the hour! :ha: He'd have us back anytime and offered for me to live there for a great price. I've never lived in a small town before but I could get real used to it I'm sure.
Just a few minutes ago I was scared out of my wits when I heard some drunk guy yelling obscenities under my window and getting violent with some other guy just walking by. It was crazy and the police showed up to take him away.
I am shocked at the goings on here now. It's truly frightening. I just hope tomorrow night doesn't bring anymore craziness around here as I'm planning a quiet night at home. Hope I don't see or hear that guy again, whoever he was.
I hate this drama and would prefer to be on the beach right now, watching the waves. I enjoy the peace and can't stand crazy drunken fools who disturb everyone and make scenes. Boy that was a scene if I ever saw one. I had just finished sending you that email Janan, and it started. Sheeesh.

Nothing like enjoying the great outdoors. It looks like you have a very nice place to grow and produce much of what one would want. Nothing is as good as home grown. Thanks

Haven't heard from you in a while Blake :D
Hope everything calms down Sherry, I would be freaking out and getting more locks!
I am dreading the snow :( Hope it isn't as bad as what it is for everyone else!
My new ipaq desktop is giving me troubles. I am trying to install Debian XFCE but it gets to the install part and starts flickering and I have to turn it off :(
Hope no one loses their power again.
Hope everyone is having a nice day :)

Nice gourdes, Blake. What will you do with them all?
Sorry about the frost. :( The eggs are too cute! :D
No worries. I'm back home and all is well now, Cam. No one is around and it's quiet and peaceful. I just got a great new ceramic pot on clearance...

Morning! :waving:
Cam are you still thinking about starting some other pods in your AG? Just wanted to let you know that the Goji is really an easy one to get started. I have started one seed three different times and all three sprouted for me. I will post a shot of my youngest one over in the AG thread.
If I think of another one that should sprout really fast for you I will let you know.

I have Xubuntu and Debian to try, I was told Xubuntu would be much slower than Debian though so I was wanting to try Debian first and see what it was like.
I will try Xubuntu when I get the chance.
Nice pot Sherry :) ;)
Glad everything has calmed down now :)

I should have saved a couple of Goji seeds for my AG, but I have them planted in soil now. Maybe I will try some of the peppers. One of the zinnias fell over

Happy Halloween, gang!!!
All's peaceful & quiet on the homefront...everyone's out! :ha:
Just hanging out enjoying a quiet halloween at home this year, but I do have my LED light-up jack-o-lanterns lit up in my windows.
Just loading a couple shots. What are you guys up to? Who's eating candy? I have Shaw's peanut butter and chocolate ice cream! Omg it's delicious. Gonna have some later.

Me and my mom and sister love watching horror flicks. I remember the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. My all time favorite movie is Carrie. I could watch that movie over and over lol. Is that a burning bush?

It does look very similar to Burning Bush. The fall color hasn't reached me yet, though its mainly yellow or brown.

Yeah, it might be a slower, however, on the plus side packages are created quicker for xubuntu. The plus of debian is it is more solid. So either way. If you get debian installed I wouldn't waste the effort of installing xubuntu.

Hi,
I tested the HD and RAM, both are fine.
I am going to try doing some different things with puppy linux if it will boot from it.
It won't boot from USB either, so I can't go about it that way....
Nice pictures :)

Good Morning!
I was just showering all my aero-garden plants and changing the water basins, plus adding more nutes. I find when you change the water regularly, the plants grow better.
So did you guys see my many strawberries in my aero-garden? Here they all are this morning...

Make sure you have enough ram. I had that problem once. System crashed during the install. The system doesn't set up a swap partition until later on during the install.

I swapped the HD with a different 20GB I had. I installed puppy linux 5.3 slacko. And today I decided to give debian install another try.
I put in the debian xfce CD and went to the help screen and tried to find some info. I ended up pressing enter and it is now installing the distro on the computer I think! :woohoonaner: Hope it works, whatever I did.
Nice strawberries :) Sorry once again about Henry, he had have a nice life and one of the best owners one could ask for :)
