I'm having the same thing happening here Greg. Looks like the hungry critters are getting ready for winter.

Willow87
08-17-2011, 02:35 PM
Those look great Greg. Mine had the same issue too. I think I found caterpillars in one of the flowers. I have to block my dining room off with taller pots so that my dogs cant get to the rest of my plants

:( Got another migraine and was in bed for about 5-6 hours (I think) I have been up for about an hour I think.

I just finished my Linux OS :) :woohoonaner: I cheated and used Suse studio online though :ha: O well....

I grew some dwarf sunflowers (the six inch tall ones) last year and something like that happened to mine. But what ever it was ate the whole leaf, and every leaf on the plant. It was terrible.

It ended up being small green worms....

Willow87
08-18-2011, 06:36 AM
I'm sorry to hear that your migraine is back. Have you been under a lot of stress? I saw little green worms on the leaves of my sunflowers, they looked like the little inch worms that hang from the webs. The ones in my sunflower were brown. I'm still waiting for my Russian Mammoth sunflower to dry up completely so I can collect the seeds.

08-18-2011, 08:59 AM
Hi,
Yes, I have been under quite a bit of stress... But this time what triggered it was I went to my aunts house and they live out in the country. So it screwed up my allergies or something.

Ya, I think we have the same pest problem with our sunflowers. I don't grow sunflowers anymore really because I have never been able to get rid of the pest they bring.

I think I grew mammoth sunflowers last year over at my grandparents house. Little grub looking things got in the seeds though so I couldn't collect them.

I don't know what the deal is, maybe nature doesn't want me to have sunflowers? :ha:

Willow87
08-18-2011, 12:56 PM
Thats terrible that your allergies triggered a migraine. I planted a few sunflower seeds the other day. I hope they sprout and bloom before the first freeze

jreidsma
08-18-2011, 02:01 PM
Hi,
The growing season is almost done :( so I can't plant anything more outside.

Hope they do well for ya :) Maybe they will flower fast and not freeze before they do :)

Willow87
08-18-2011, 04:28 PM
Wow I think the first freeze around here is usually around Thanksgiving or later. But this drought and heat kill so many plants. I'm seeing several mature trees dying around here

jreidsma
08-18-2011, 05:11 PM
I don't know when our first freeze is, I know last year it was way early.

Maybe the drought will end soon.

Willow87
08-18-2011, 06:19 PM
I hope this drought does too, but I think its going to continue into next year also.

jreidsma
08-18-2011, 09:33 PM
It has seemed like the last few years have been more dry and hot then normal. Maybe the cycle will break soon.

Just got back from Doc. visit. Got put on some better meds. for sinus infection. Maybe it will go away soon :)

Willow87
08-19-2011, 09:39 AM
I hope your migraine does go away. It probably is a cycle, I just wish it would break soon. I really don't like the heat lol

jreidsma
08-19-2011, 10:06 AM
I wish it would stay about 70-80 degrees :ha: About 70 is perfect for me. I don't like the heat or the cold (Things that Michigan has...)

I am about to leave for camping in a few hours. So if I stop talking in about 3-4 hours I left.

Willow87
08-19-2011, 12:53 PM
70 is he perfect temperature to me too lol. I don't mind the cold as long as its not bitterly cold. Its going to be 107 here today. I hope you have a great time camping, thats something I've always wanted to do

jreidsma
08-19-2011, 01:09 PM
This time going camping its just me, my parents, and my cousin. SO it should be much nicer then last time.

I am going to get a plant I have been eyeing there for a while, as long as it is still there.

107! wow!

It's supposed to be about 78 Sunday, and its supposed to storm tomorrow and today sometime.

I am about to leave, so I don't think I will get another post in.

Willow87
08-19-2011, 01:12 PM
You are so lucky that its only 78. I told my mom that we need to moved to a cooler place lol. I hope you get your plant:woohoonaner:

jreidsma
08-19-2011, 01:17 PM
A couple more post won't hurt ;)

I couldn't survive with anything hotter then Michigan, lol :ha: So I wouldn't do too well in Texas.

The plant I am going after this time is a small ficus B. But it all depends on what else I find ;)

Willow87
08-19-2011, 01:28 PM
I can barely survive the heat here lol. Ficus are very cool plants, I had a rubber plant but an early freeze killed it. It was 4 feet tall and was beautiful for a few months and then it started losing its leaves so I set it outside and then the frost killed it

jreidsma
08-22-2011, 01:27 PM
Hi,
I got my ficus bejamina! :D

I am going to make a bonsai out of it. I will post pictures soon.

Oh ya, and I am back form camping ;)

Willow87
08-22-2011, 01:59 PM
I Jordan! I hope you had great time camping and I'm so glad you got your ficus. I've seen a few ficus bonsai at Lowes, but I look forward to seeing yours

Hi,
Thanks! :)

It's actually six or seven trees bunched together. So it will be more like a clump then a tree. :ha:

Willow87

Wow it looks so nice and healthy. I'm getting some plumeria seeds from a friend. She is going to send me several different colors, so I'm preparing for those. I have to buy seedling soil when I get the chance. I don't know how many seeds she is giving me but she said she will send several. I can't wait to start growing them

jreidsma
08-22-2011, 08:02 PM
The store I bought it from actually takes decent care of some of their plants. But then they are a grocery store.... so there are their faults.

I have never had a plumeria. So I hope yours do good :) Can't wait to see some pictures ;)

I have never used any special germination soil, or seedling soil. I always just plant them right in the soil they would need when they are full grown and then just go from there.

Hope your plants do well, and have a nice day :)

Willow87
08-22-2011, 08:11 PM
I have bought a couple of plants from the grocery stores but alot of them are too expensive for me lol. I already have one plumeria plant that is a foot tall. I'm not sure what color the blooms will be. I've read that they are easy to germinate from seed, so I hope I have some success lol. I'll take pictures once i get them to sprout. You have a great night Jordan

jreidsma
08-22-2011, 08:20 PM
I usually don't get plants at grocery stores unless they are plants I have been wanting for a while, or are extremely cheap ;)

The ficus was only $10 and it's decent sized. It will make a nice bonsai :)

Hope the plumeria do well for you :) can't wait to see them ;)

You have a nice night to :)

Hey, you guys!!!

I just got back from Niagara Falls yesterday. Three days just wasn't enough so we ended up staying for six! I had an absolute blast and even went up in a helicopter over the Falls!!!

Here's one shot at 675 feet high, while in the helicopter...

I actually requested to sit in the front, beside the pilot!!! :goteam:

It was the thrill of my life! :D

So much to tell you guys and I've got tons of shots to share. Missed you all and hope you weren't worried when I disappeared for a week.

I'm gonna load some pics and post them in the Niagara Falls thread. Hope you guys will check it out.

Good morning everyone. Sherry that's an amazing picture! Jordan that's a beautiful plant. I had one of those years ago but I killed it lol

jreidsma
08-24-2011, 10:16 AM
I bought it a couple years ago at a pet store. This was one of the plants that just about killed everything :ha: it had spider mites and I didn't notice until everything had them. I lost my speckled aloes and a cactus by the time I got rid of them.

I haven't had a problem with spider mites so far this year :woohoonaner: I usually would get them every once and a while. I have been a lot more strict on what can come inside though. I quarantine everything when I get it. And that tactic has served me well :)

Willow87
08-24-2011, 10:52 AM
Luckily I've never had a problem with spider mite, but last winter I had a white fly infestation that killed a few plants. Years ago I had mealybugs that killed my 6 foot tall China doll plant as well as my coffee trees. My friend sent my plumeria seeds today and she said I may have them by the weekend.

jreidsma
08-24-2011, 11:33 AM
I have never had a problem with anything inside except for spider mites when I get a new plant that has them.

I always have a couple little gnats though. I can never get rid of them but they aren't really hurting anything. So I just ignore the two or three that are there.

Willow87
08-24-2011, 12:58 PM
I have always had a problem with gnats. I usually set out traps of water/vinegar/ dish washing soap around my plants. I also read that using diluted hydrogen peroxide kills soil gnats, so I may try that since I still see a few flying around some of my indoor plants. I spent most of the morning preparing for my plumeria seeds. I bought some potting soil and I'm using old plastic bottles as pots. I set 32 of them in an old aquarium

jreidsma
08-24-2011, 01:41 PM
Hope your seeds do well for ya :)

I have heard ta bunch of different ways that is supposed to help, but none seem to do anything for me. So I just let them be. There's only three anyways in the whole house.

Willow87
08-24-2011, 03:06 PM
Thanks Jordan. I'll have to remember to rinse my plants off before I bring them in. I had brought in several pest last winter when I rushed all of my plants inside

jreidsma
08-24-2011, 03:38 PM
Hi,
It seems if the plants are outside then theres no way to escape pest. Thats why I keep all my plants inside. Except the non exotic, hardy ones.

Willow87
08-24-2011, 04:50 PM
I would love to keep them inside but they do so much better outside with the heat and humidity. Indoors I have limited light so all of my plants are happy to be outside. I only keep the tender plants inside

jreidsma
08-24-2011, 05:13 PM
I would keep all my plants outside to. But the pest are bad, and the weather is stupid here. So they would die outside.

Got to go check out where my classes are at school tomorrow :( I dread school.....

Willow87
08-24-2011, 06:38 PM
I usually don't have to worry about pest eating my houseplants, its just mainly spiders and a few other bugs that come indoors with my plants. I hope you have a great day at school tomorrow:woohoonaner:

jreidsma
08-24-2011, 09:13 PM
School is just torture for me.... I have acid reflex really bad so I feel like I am going to throw up the whole day from getting up early. Everyone there is mean to me, except the teachers most of the time. And I sleep terribly so I get 2-3 hours sleep a night if I am sleeping really well that night. And quite a few of my friends have moved away leaving me with even less people that don't dislike me.

Spiders and stuff like that usually don't come inside that often during the summer. But during the winter they come inside some. I leave them alone as long as they don't pose a threat to anything or anyone. They keep actual pest in control somewhat during the winter. I also see it as they where here before we, humans, where. So the least I can do is provide them shelter with the land we took.

Good evening!

I was just loading more shots from my awesome trip to Niagara Falls. Thanks about the picture, Cam. It's was such a thrill being in the front seat with the pilot.

So I gotta take some shots of a few of my plants soon also. Just busy trying to enjoy the last bit of summer we have left. It'll be over soon.

Janan, where are you? :waving:

:ha: "Awesome trip to Niagara falls" :ha: That's one way to explain something ;)

If I rode in anything that went up in the air I would panic, let alone being next to the pilot  I wouldn't be able to get off the ground in one mental piece!

I know what you mean when it comes to summer almost being over. Then its back to the "Winter water wonderland" that is known as Michigan.... Not really "wonderland"..... More like wasteland :ha:

I am going to order my bonsai stuff Friday, when I get it I will show some pictures of it :) I can already picture the Ficus now.... :ha:

I think for school this year we get Ipads... I hope we get to pick the color :) Even though I am color blind....

I just found out how to change the color of my post! :D Now can anyone name off what colors there are from Left to right? ;)

I recently bought my mom an ipod. I don't even own one myself but she was interested so I splurged and got her a good one. She was playing with it today.

Yeah, some people are very afraid of heights and could never ride in a helicopter. I can be afraid of heights from time to time but the ride was so smooth and secure, I felt really safe and in good hands. What a thrill for people who don't mind heights.

Yes, all the kids are in the stores shopping for back to school clothes. I got my hair done today and good thing I had an appointment because it was packed with people at the salon.

Still loading pics on photobucket of my trip...

Hello Insomniac Gang! :waving:

I've been without internet service!!!!! They had a bunch to do so I just had to get in line. Get this........it was caused from the heat! The technician said our 105 to 108 days were causing the boards to burn up. He said inside the antennae box that is up past the roof is about 150 degrees and that they were dropping like flies. When he replace the board we were up and running again! I just wonder how long this one will last? We have now broken all records for 100 plus degree days, EVER! That record was in the 1925, so it is official that it is the hottest summer since they started keeping records which was in the 1800's. AMAZING!

OK. so I have a lot of catching up to do. Just know if I missed a question or something, just ask me again!

Good morning everyone. Jordan I'm so sorry to hear about your experience at school. My High School years were bad, I got picked on alot. I mainly kept to myself, though I did have a couple of friends

jreidsma
08-25-2011, 10:03 AM
Hi,
Janan, That is extreme heat! You know its bad when your internet fries from the heat. :ha: At least the internet can't freeze form the cold ;)

Every once and a while (maybe like once every couple months) I lose internet for a day or so. They have to do maintenance or something. But its never for long.

I have my charter internet modem box, then that's hooked up to my Netgear WiFi converter to give my whole house WiFi. Then my computer(s) are run into that to get their internet if they don't have WiFi. Maybe I should get WiFi cards for all my desktop computers :ha: then there wouldn't be so many cords.

HBL, what type of Ipod? I have a fourth generation 32GB ipod touch :D It is pretty fun to have when you have WiFi. :)

I try to keep to myself, but that doesn't work that much anymore. I guess there's something about picking on the kid that sits in the corner alone that makes people feel better then they really are.

Back in 2nd grade I got attacked on the bus. Some kid that was in fifth grade decided to try strangling me after calling me a couple nasty words. I almost passed out from it and no one tried to help, they just stood there and either ignored it or laughed. Then in fourth grade this one kid thought it was funny to hit me in random pressure points around my neck, then after he finally got stopped he tripped me on a pencil and it stabbed my hand. Then my 2nd grade teacher pretty much hated me, everything bad that happened she would blame it on me and give me slips to go to the detention place or whatever else there was. Every time I would be called on to present our "writing time" things she would kind of make fun of it in front of every one. And now the other people in the High school just ignore me or treat me like I'm trash.

Maybe this year will be a bit better. Some of the other teenagers in high school are actually figuring out that you don't need to pick on each other for fun.

The teachers last year said they wanted me in advanced classes. So I don't know if I will be in any classes with my couple friends. Maybe if I make everyone look stupid by being smarter they will leave me alone :ha: ;)

I will post what classes I have for no reason later maybe :) I might have some sort of 20th century conflicts or psychology (then I can mess with peoples heads :ha:) and then CPR or art. They make this so confusing.....

(HAHA! NEW RANDOM COLOR!)

Willow87
08-25-2011, 10:13 AM
I think people do pick on others that sit quietly in a corner because that happened to me. Its terrible that people can be such bullies and even worse when teachers are also bullies. I had a few teachers like that. I never acted bad in their classes or even said anything and they would pick on me. Finally I had to go to the principal and he sent an email to all of my teachers about it. I think with one teacher it made her even madder and she still continued. Hopefully this year will be good. The sad thing is life is full of bullies, though you do meet some wonderful people too (Sherry and Janan) :08:

Almost everyone I meet online on these plant forums are great people :) I think it's because only nice people like plants and animals :) ;) Especially you three on here :)

The last couple years at school I have been making origami animals and stuff like that and everyone wants one now :ha: So some people are actually treating me a bit better then what they were. There's just something about small origami cats that makes people happy ;) :ha:

I installed my Linux Distros I made on Virtual box to see if they will auto-update like other distros. If they don't I might have to fix that :ha:

Also cleaned all of my fish tanks. :goteam:That's a work out there by itself :ha: Now all my tanks are cleaner :) Soon I will have to go sell some more of my Endlers Livebearer babies. When each female has about 20 babies each time they tend to over populate :ha:

Hope everyone has a nice day, and talk to you all later :)

Willow87
08-25-2011, 10:55 AM
Thanks for that Jordan. You are a nice person too. I've always wanted learn how to do origami. I would probably make alot of paper flowers lol. I had some live bearers before. I had 3 generations of platies. They eventually died out because I would get more and more female fish and eventually I had all females lol. I have a 30 gallon aquarium with my pet turtle and a weather loach in it. The weather loach I've had for several years. Take care Jordan and have a nice day

Here's a link to endlers livebearers:
Endler's Livebearer - Poecilia wingei (http://www.aquahobby.com/gallery/e_Poecilia_endlers.php)

I have a 29 gallon with two 11 year old giant armored catfish. A 10 gallon with mollies, guppies, ottos, and cory catfish. Another 10 gallon with the endlers. A five gallon with my Dwarf pufferfish. Another 5 gallon with my brackish Bea gobies.

Then I have a 10 gallon with my tarantula. And a 5 gallon with my firebellied newt. Then a small plastic container with my emperor scorpion. And a couple other animals here and there.

Then I have my cats :ha:

Origami isn't that hard if you have the patience to do it. Which many of the kids at school lack :ha:

I make mainly small cats. Maybe because I am slightly obsessed with cats :ha: (Joking, I just like cats A LOT)

Wow those are so cute! I miss my livebearers. You have so many fish! Fish are my favorite pets. I have 2 dogs and 3 birds (2 cockatiels and 1 parakeet) One day I want to have a very large aquarium and have it imitate the Amazon river. I love angel fish, because they are so graceful. Maybe I'll look online about the origami because I would love to make some origami flowers for my room. I'm really excited about getting my plumeria seeds. My friend said she sent the multi color ones.

jreidsma
08-25-2011, 01:22 PM
Yes the endlers are very cute :) And they stay pretty small to.

I would love to have a large fish tank set up like a pond or river :) That would be pretty cool.

I haven't found any easier flowers that turn out right for me. So let me know what you find, I need more choices of what to make :)

Hope the plumeria do well for you :) Sounds like they are very cool :)

Willow87
08-25-2011, 01:35 PM
My floors can't support a large aquarium so I would have to move. There were people on Freecycle giving away free 35 gallon aquariums. I wish I had one. I would love to raise an Oscar. I think it will take the plumeria seeds 3-6 years to reach blooming maturity. Sometimes sooner in some cases

jreidsma
08-25-2011, 01:44 PM
I live in a mobile home so I don't have enough room for anything very big.

I think a lion fish would be cool. But then again do I want a fish that could kill me...

Hope the plumeria take shorter then that :ha: That sounds like how long a Adenium takes.

Willow87
08-25-2011, 02:07 PM
I live in one too. Lion fish are so beautiful but like you said, I wouldn't want a fish that could kill me either lol. I hope it doesnt take my plumeria that long either, they are very similar to Adeniums. I'm also trying to root my Apple Blossom Oleander that the maintenance man chopped it down last year. Its starting to grow taller but it was nearly 7 feet before he cut it down. And the flowers were breath-taking when it was in full bloom. Here is what it looked like before he cut it down.

Wow, how gorgeous, Cam!!! :goteam:

Glad to hear you're back up and running, Janan! pretty wild, about your heat!

Jordan, I'm very sorry to hear about your troubles at school. I hate bullies and mean people. I used to stick up for the less popular kids in school and put the run to many bullies myself. My young shy cousin is currently being bullied and picked on at school and his parents are trying to get it stopped. In many ways, the schools allow and encourage it. :(

Just know that those jerks don't matter and they're all just jealous of you anyway. Hold your head up high and ignore them. I think you're terrific Jordan, and that's why I invited you
here. ;)

So I have another post ready for the Niagara Falls thread. Gonna post soon...

Thanks :)

I was put in a advanced Algebra class  I hope I don't have homework....

Then I am in the regular classes, English, biology. But I am also in civics, economics, 20th century conflicts, art beginning drawing, art beginning design, and cpr, first aid, and more.

Half way through my school year almost all of my classes either change or switch places with each other.... And all of my classes are at two different school and on opposite sides of each school. And I only have five minutes to get to each class AND go to the bathroom......

And then my locker is on the opposite side of my classes, upstairs....

And also to go along with our books (which there will be about five at a time to carry because of how the classes are set up), binders to carry everything for every class, and now we also have ipads to keep up with....

And they can't figure out why the kids are so freaked out! They should have planned the school out better.....

Ohh, and can someone tell me what color this is please?

The Hollyberry Lady
08-26-2011, 10:11 AM
To me it's like a greyish purple or even a shade of mauve.

Yeah, things were crazy for me in highshool too and I ended up switching schools midway through. Got tired of the very strict and very lame dresscode at the highschool I was at. You could only wear blue and white and every shirt had to have a collar. Skirts had to be a certain length. The whole thing just sucked and you got sent to the principle's office for not conforming with the dresscode.

So I'm still trying to load a few shots. I gotta finish setting up my new laptop. Got my mom one too and she still hasn't got hers up and running yet either. My mom recently got me something called a 'click free'...it's a small little unit, capable of backing up several computers at a time. Even if you get a virus, it's all saved on back-up so you can easily start over without losing a thing! It's the latest and greatest and I'm looking forward to checking it out.

Went to the beach yesterday but the weather sucked...overcast, cold & windy. We read for a awhile because the water was too cold and rough to go swimming. Too windy to even play volleyball.

Hi,

We don't really have anything we "have" to wear. But skirts and shorts have to be past your fingertips.

What type of laptop did you get? I might be able to give you a few tips on them :) And then what operating system does it have?

I like volleyball, but I suck at it :ha: I am not too bad at badminton though ;)

I have been to the beach three times this year, and I don't even get in the water or even bring a bathing suit, :ha: I just sit there..... I don't want any leaches on me :ha:

What color is it this time?

They're both Hp laptops. I just need to get the keycode so I can access internet on my new system...I've just been too busy lately to bother and am just using my big laptop for now.

Took this cute shot at a fruit and veggie farmer's market stand yesterday on the way back from the beach...

I just got out of my shower :ha: I dread when I actually have to get up at 6AM....

I had to set up a new user on my desktop computer. The school is giving us Ipads to use but they WON'T use their own computers to back up any of the files or to use itunes on. And I am not giving up MY itunes account that has my $400 Ipod on, just to use something the school is forcing on us.

So I made a second user on my computer and set it up to have separate itunes accounts ;) No one will tell me what to do with my stuff :ha:

They said we can "customize" the case we get with them :D I think I have some extra stickers around here somewhere.... :ha:

Hi Sherry and everyone. I'm so happy today because I got my plumeria seeds. A friend gave me several types : Negril, Curly Temple, Kimo, Ellen #15, Diasy Wilcox, Matecombe Dawn, Hydrangea, Blushing Princess, Loi Kratong, and 3 mystery Thai plumerias They probably won't come true to seed but there is always a possibility. I hope they sprout.

That's quite a list! :) hope they grow well :)

If they don't come true to the parent then maybe they will be some new hybrid or something? You will have your own, unique, type of plumeria.

Just ordered a bunch more bonsai stuff :) I got a new pot for my ficus, a concave cutter, fertilizer, and some mesh to cover the drainage holes :)

The Hollyberry Lady

So you're getting into Bonsai growing, eh Jordan? Should be fun.

I almost bought two little African dwarf frogs last night, but I chickened out! Now I wanna go back and get them but I'm nervous I'll kill them! They're so tiny. GreenEarth is selling them for 30 bucks. I gotta research them a bit more before I decide. They are very cute.

So it's a sunny gorgeous day today. Might be going out in a bit.

If anyone laughs I'll kill them :ha: but this shot shows me with major bedhead and frizz to go with it. I just woke up and was chatting with my aunt in Nova Scotia. She recently told me about this amazing Versa Spa spray tan booth and how awesome it is. I went recently and she wanted to see my tan and aksed me to snap a quick shot...

Nobody's laughing! You are beautiful!!!! You always post the comical shots (like you on the potty) it's nice to see your pretty face normal.

That's NOT bed head! You should see mine. I always have a mohawk when I wake up in the morning. It is hideously funny. And NO I will not take and post a picture of it.

That tan is very nice, it does look natural too. I always come out too orange. If I could get all my freckles to run together I would have a nice tan! :ha:

Oh thank you Janan! :waving:

I guess I am my own worst enemy because I think that shot is one of my worst. I like showing goofy bad shots though sometimes...just being real. My hair looks awful though. It's actually really blonde, especially when I'm outside, but the colors are sometimes off with the camera depending on the lighting. Even my eyes look green but they're really more blue in reality.

Yeah, I was totally worried about the ORANGE look but my aunt assured me it was bronze, not orange. She was so right Janan! Have you tried the new Versa Spa though? It addresses all the issues and complaints clients had with their previous system...orange tint, streaking, not long-lasting. It's truly amazing and I love it that I can look totally bronzed like this without spending one minute in the sun!!! :goteam:

Too funny about the mohawk in the morning! :ha:

So I was gonna post a shot of some plants...

No, I have not tried the new Versa Spa. I just don't have good tanning skin. :o

The Hollyberry Lady
08-28-2011, 01:35 PM
Ok sometime I'll surprise you with a decent photo. ;)

I burn in the sun and can't achieve tanned skin until I burn many times over...which isn't good for your skin. I swear if you try it Janan, you'll love it! It has a pre-treatment conditioner that helps the spray stick to you, evenly. I even see redheads with milk white skin using it and they look great. Check it out sometime before you give up completely. I'm only gonna do it in the warm months though because I think it looks ridiculous to be walking around with a deep tan when there's snow on the ground! :ha:

I also bought one of their shimmer bronzer lotions which is really nice at night when you go out. Their products are excellent quality and never fake or orange looking.

Ok so I gotta get ready to go out for awhile. I was trying to load some pics but the phone hasn't stopped ringing.

Hi,

The African dwarf frogs need AT LEAST 10 gallons to live properly. They can't really live in anything much smaller then that, some websites will say otherwise. But they can get rather big for smaller tanks. They seem to like frozen brine shrimp and blood worms, which is what I feed to my puffer fish. Or you could even go the live approach ;)

Here's a decent info page on care:
http://www.petco.com/caresheets/fish/Frog_AfricanDwarf.pdf

If you want a frog that could go in groups, and would come out of the water there are always fire bellied toads. Or fire bellied newts. Both are pretty cool also :)

African dwarf frogs are pretty cool aren't they :) Makes me want one now :ha:

Once I get the rest of my bonsai stuff and the trees in the pots I will post some pictures :)

I wake up in the morning with a extremely curly Afro sort of.... Then my hair is so brown some people just call it black :ha:

My cat Butter gets Bed body! :ha:

I never really liked tanning ;) I have gotten sunburn before I tan. I go straight from white to burnt :ha: and I haven't gotten enough sun to do anything like that for a year or more.

Hi everyone. Sherry I like the picture. I showed my mom and she said you are a very pretty woman. I hate taking pictures of myself. I had an African Dwarf frog some years ago, but he disappeared. I called him "Frogger" but my sister called him Kermit. We would actually argue about his name lol. He was so cute but one day he wasn't in the tank so I don't know what happened to him.

Maybe he jumped out? They do jump out of the water some times.

I hate taking pictures also, in fact, the only pictures I HAVE to allow are school pictures so I can have a ID which we don't use. I don't let myself or anyone else take pictures of me. So the most you will see of me is my hand holding up a plant :ha:

Hi Janan! I hope you are staying cool. I heard that we may see some rain later in the week and cooler temps too. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I've lost so many plants but I gained a few. I have one plumeria cutting that I've had for 2 years and it hasn't bloomed for me yet. Its about a foot tall now. Sorry for the delayed response everyone. I have been playing a computer game with my brother lol. This heat has been terrible and I hope it does cool down (Wishful Thinking lol) My oleander did produce a few seed pods last year before the maintenance man cut it down, but the seed pods were empty and I found out that its a sterile variety. I' am rooting some cuttings in water so I will save some for you. Jordan both Sherry and Janan are right. I need to listen to their advice too. Sherry I love hostas but its too hot to grow them here so I have to admire other's hostas lol. Some of my peppers and my Micro Tom tomatoes have flowers on them.

tbaleno

Good picture Sherry. If you didn't say anything I would never have guessed it was a fake tan.

Oh, and believe it or not, all the sunflowers made it through the storm still standing tall. one of them has to be over 9' tall.

I'll have to take some pictures to show you how they are doing. Also, the peppers in my basement are doing pretty well. I forgot to water them for a week or so and they all wilted. But amazingly once I watered them they started to grow new growth.

Edit: I went down in the basement. Turns out that the plants wanted water. Greedy little things I just watered them last week or so. Anyway, I harvested a carrot while I was down there. My dragon fruit cactus is growing well. I found out, patting a cactus is generally not a good idea.

Oh, I haven't seen fungus gnats down there in a while. I think maybe the fact I'm so neglectful of my plants made them pack up their bags to find more succulent plants.

Yeah, they show pics at the salon of people with real tans and people with the versa spa spray tan and you honestly cannot tell the difference! It's too amazing. There are three levels of color...level one light, level two medium, and level three dark. Of course I went for the darkest they had and I use the bronzer on day 8-10 to enrich the color again.

People shouldn't suntan anymore anyway so this is a great substitute for harmful UV rays. Men and women use it and it's very natural looking. It takes 4-6 hours to set, after you leave the booth. As the hours wear on, you get darker and darker. It's too cool. You also have the option of getting the instant bronzer spray, along with your tan spray, so you see instant color when you come out of the booth. I like this option and you look like you just stepped off some beach when you leave.

There's an air purfication system in the booth and no weird odors. You're alone and the booth is wide open always...you just step in and out of it. It talks to you too and tells you when to turn around. The process is really fun and relaxing and the result is a wonderful even bronzed glowing tan in a few hours. No streaks or orange color.

No more sunburns for me! :goteam:

I've also been using those crest whitening strips for your teeth. Has anyone tried them? OMG they're awesome. I just had light tea stains but my aunt had 20 years of cigarette and coffee stains...both our teeth are white as snow! Mine nearly glow in the dark now! :ha:

Anyone who wants to make thier teeth whiter should definitely try them. My dentist confimed that the product is enamel-safe.

: )

jreidsma
08-28-2011, 09:50 PM
:ha: We can replace UV rays with.... SPRAY PAINT! ;) :ha:
(Joking, it's not spray paint ;))

Sounds like a good idea :) now there's no UV radiation hitting you when you get tanned.

Does everyone have microtoms now? They are awesome :)

Everything is terribly dry now. The heat is back and my peach tree doesn't like it... Looks like another year with no peaches. Last year my peach tree got some weird disease that looked like black spot on roses. But it didn't have it this year, but now it has some sort of spots on the peaches only... :( Maybe some year I will get peaches off of it.

tbaleno, I have found also that touching the needles on a cactus when they are being replanted is not a good idea either :ha: On golden barrels there are tiny needles around the roots and THEY HURT!

I am definatly going to try not to touch the horse crippler cactus I got from a trade in Plantswap.net. They are just sprouting. Also got some fish hook and thelocactus setispinus.

I am getting very excited about my bonsai stuff :D Can't wait!

My problem is fear, I can't get nerve to tell my parents about anything.... Which I need to start doing soon or else I am going to go nuts...

I wanted to rent a beach cottage for a week and today I went and looked at a gorgeous one that's practically right on top of the beach!!! I rented it for this coming Wednesday at noon, until the following Wednesday at noon...1 week!!! :woohoonaner:

This coming weekend is the last long weekend of summer and it's gonna be so nice to be at the beach! It's a totally gorgeous, fully furnished spacious 2 bedroom cottage house, that even has a fireplace! It's also got a deck, yard, and bar-b-que. The best part is you walk out the front door and take about 20 steps and you're on the beach! How cool is that?! :08:

So tomorrow we're going out for lunch then spending the day packing and getting ready for our beach vacation on Wednesday. There's internet at the cottage so I can still keep in touch with you guys and take lots of pics too. Our cottage is called the "Honeysuckle". Oh I'm so excited!

Just got my concave bonsai cutters and fertilizer :)

I just got done putting my ficus in their bonsai pot also. (Insert word here).... they didn't cooperate as well as my umbrella tree did :ha:

The ficus didn't have ay branches in the right places. In fact; I don't even think they had many branches at all! All the leaves where coming off of the trunk.

So I went along the route of this youtube video:
Morph movie: from pre-bonsai to a simple bonsai Ficus benjamina - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LVUueNKh0I&list=FL3mSWQiVcLXSdHOgr9f8u4w&index=2&feature=plpp)

I cut them back and once more, smaller, leaves come I will take off the full grown ones I left on. I hope mine turns out as nice as the one in that video! I hope mine doesn't take two years though :ha:

I ordered two quarts of tropical bonsai soil and didn't even use quite one. There's maybe a cup of soil left in one and the other is brand new. Maybe I will start getting into bonsai more now ;)

I am also getting to have some friends over tomorrow. :D I guess the last couple days have been pretty good.

I would like to do some sort of flowering bonsai. Maybe a bougainvillea?

I have the extra soil, so if I find something else all I would need to get would be the pot for it. So I will be keeping an eye out for new "pre-bonsai"

Willow87

I've seen so many bougainvillea plants for sale this year. A couple of years ago they hardly sold them. I guess they are growing more popularity. My friend has a salmon color bougainvillea. I may try to take a cutting once it gets bigger

Hi everyone!!! :waving:

I just got back to London a little bit ago, but we're still staying at the cottage. Tomorrow is my brother's death anniversary so we just came home to prepare for that. :(

We're supposed to be leaving the cottage tomorrow by 4 pm, but have decided to stay one more
week!!! :goteam:

It's just too amazing and beautiful there. Most evenings and also days that are overcast, you have the beach all to yourself...or at least a large section of it.

This picture will speak volumes about why we decided to stay another week...

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/3rd%20album/IMG_1017.jpg

Tomorrow morning I will be up at the crack of dawn, taking shots of the sunrise! So looking forward to
it. :)

Sorry guys, but internet signal sucks on the beach. I'll write when I can over the next week and will be back next Wednesday, the 14th.

Hope you guys are enjoying the last of summer. ;)

Chat soon...

Sounds and loos nice there! :)

Hope you have a nice time there :)

School just starts tomorrow :( And now some of my classes have been changed....

The school put me in general biology, which is for the people who constantly have F's or other bad grades. And I should be in advanced Biology. So I had to call the school and they put me in advanced biology and changed a couple of my classes around.

The Hollyberry Lady

When I get back Jordan, we'll have to discuss why you're getting F's...you're far too smart for that! ;) Glad you got some of your classes changed. :)

Hope you have a great first day back to school. :2738:

Oh and Cam...

Today I am going to place an order for you from aero-garden so you'll have what you need to go with the system Janan and I got for you. I was planning order you a bag of 120 sponges, some fertilizer, and I have the bulbs already which I'll send when I get back from the beach.

You too Jordan, I have some goodies for you! I'll send things when I return.

Won't be home long but thought I'd check in. Have a great week, everyone! :goteam:

Looking forward to getting the stuff from you :)

Hope you have a nice week to :)

I knew it was crazy, thinking of you with F's!!! :ha: I'm just rushing around and guess I read it wrong. Sorry.

Looking forward to sending the stuff to you also. ;)

Ok, gotta go back to the cottage soon...

Hi everyone. How are you today Sherry and Jordan? Sherry I didn't know you had a brother that passed away too. I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm so glad you are enjoying your vacation, even here the weather has been nice, though dry. The highs this week are going to be in the 80s and the lows in the upper 50s to 60s, so its really nice weather. I just wish it would rain. One of my plumeria seeds sprouted a root so I'm happy that at least one will be growing. I also have several blooms on my datura, so hopefully I will have pictures of the blooms. Thanks so much for the aero-garden supplies, I saw some lupine seeds that I want to grow in my aerogarden. My Love Lies Bleeding seedlings are slowly growing, but at least they are alive lol

I woke up at about 8:30AM and it was 45 degrees outside. It is only 67 degrees right now!

My poor basjoo banana.... it had three or four nice leaves and then today the coldness killed all but one leaf :( I moved the basjoo inside and it looks better sense this morning though :)

If I wasn't so un-motivated and stressed out I could have 100% in everything school related. But I just get about 90% and that's just out of instinct :ha: I guess I am lucky when it comes to it.

Hope everyone has a nice week :)

The first day of school SUCKED!

Yesterday was the first day, and it was so stressful that I ended up with a migraine when I got home. That's why I haven't posted in a day or two.

Today was a bit better....

My lunch at school is some milk and a small cookie..... There's nothing left by the time I get up there. And my classes are so far apart I am almost late to every single one! I was also told by the teachers that my binder wouldn't work. I have always had one binder for the whole day. And I just divided it. They said I had to have a separate binder for each class.... So we went and bought five more binders. And had to buy more school supplies, as my school just now told us what we needed. And I have no time to go to my locker, so I have to carry everything to every class.......

How is everyone doing?

Found mealy bugs on my indoor plants... so I just spent all day treating all of my plants.

My peaches are almost ripe though! :D I am going to plant it on my hill next year, it isn't liking being in a pot any more :ha: And then I am going to dig up my hostas and move them on my hill and plant my basjoo where they where.

:ha: I already have a lot of work to do when spring gets here.....

Morning Gang!

Well, it has been H E L L down here keeping a close eye on all these fires. One is 4 miles from my daughter's home. There are 8 other fires going on and the really big one in Bastrop. Only one of those is 100% contained with the big one still raging with only 30 % containment. The Bastrop one has wiped out 1386 homes and has burned over 34,000 acres.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Hi everyone. Jordan I'm so sorry to hear about your school day, hopefully it will get better. Janan I have been watching the fires on the news and I was worried about how close they were to you. I have an aunt that lives in Roundrock. My aunt in Palestine said that there was a small grass fire near the dogwood trails and that she can smell smoke. Every morning here I can smell the smoke. I'm wondering what is starting the fires? The bad news is that La Nina weather pattern is going to return which means more drought.

Jananas Bananas

Hi Cam! I am about 30 minutes from Bastrop - not that far, really. Yes, I have been watching the other fires too because we have lots of family and friends in East Texas. My daughter and Son in Law have been on standby for evacuation since Sunday and they will come here if they have to. I am just praying that the wind doesn't blow until they can get all these fires out.

Yes, I heard that about La Nina too (sucks). ~J

I just rescued that adenium from the grocery store :) I hope it flowers soon, I have been waiting patiently for a very long time to see one flower in person. And none of mine are very big yet :ha: so I bought this one.

Should I repot it into something bigger, or keep it root bound? I have heard that keeping them root bound makes the caudex get bigger.

My datura got to about 2 inches tall.... but two days ago it just up and wilted to the ground. Maybe it was a bad seed or something? It was doing great then just up and died....

Maybe I will have to try another. I guess that's the good thing about growing stuff indoors. You can sprout stuff all year round.

Can't wait to see yours open :)

I enjoy growing stuff from seed more also. But I just didn't want to wait three or four years for my adeniums to get this big. So I rescued one from the store. :ha:

Willow87

I planted several datura seeds and only one came up. They seem liek difficult plants. This whole time I thought they were drought tolerant but everyday the plant wilts and drinks a lot of water. I'm planting some in a shadier location next year. Did you see Janan's variegated adenium? Its beautiful. So many people are growing adeniums and that seems to be the main plant I hear about. I'm going to take pictures of my plumeria seedlings once they get a little bigger. Only 2 sprouted and the rest rotted.

I have some others also but they are solid colored, one with pink flowers and the other with darker borderline red flowers. I like them a lot. They like being root bound and crowded in their pot. Yours looks like it still has plenty of room in it's pot so I would just leave it where it is. :)

The ones that have peppers on them are both varieties of Cayenne pepper. All of my other peppers including the fish pepper have flowers on them. I also have a tomato on my Micro Tom. I love Micro Tom tomatoes. I look forward to tasting one. My datura didn't open up last night but I think tonight maybe the night. The blooms have a yellow hue to them but the tips have a purple edge so I'm not sure what color the blooms will be. I planted lavender color ones and the white flowering ones but I think it may be the flower variety. The flowers are a lot bigger than I thought. I had a couple of plumeria seeds sprout. The rest rotted, but a friend is sending me more and I'm going to try a different tactic for germinating them

I have done quite a few trades. Have gotten quite a bit of my stuff from trades.

I am not good with naming stuff :ha: the only pets I have that are named are my two cats. I just seem to call stuff by what it is.

Maybe I will take suggestions for names for the adenium? ;)

I am going to be gone a couple days. I am going camping once again over the weekend,

I got a mysterious package from a name and address I didn't recognize today.... So I opened it in my bathroom and it was from Janan! :goteam: Thanks! :D

It contained a climbing aloe, some dragon fruit cuttings, some stinky flower cacti (carrion flower?), a little prince banana, and a un-named aloe looking succulent. Along with some seeds I will have to look at after I do my homework.

:woohoonaner::goteam::woohoonaner::goteam::woohoonaner:

The package also came with miracle fruit seeds, sunrise cactus seeds, spoon tomato seeds, and Cheriomoya seeds.

My only problem is where am I going to put a dragon fruit indoors..... I will just have to put it by my window, hope it gets enough sun there, and keep it trimmed up a little bit. :ha: I have always wanted one though, so I guess that saves me from buying one somewhere :)

Thanks again Janan! :woohoonaner:

Do I just treat the dragon fruit like a cactus then? I am new to them and have no idea right now :ha:

I am going to have to keep mine up on a shelf somewhere. My cats would get into it if it was on the floor.

Willow87

Dragon fruit is a jungle cactus that needs a little more moisture and richer soil than a regular cactus, but they still need well drained soil. You will also need something for it to climb on since it can grow several feet high. If you keep it trimmed you will never see flowers or fruit on it because dragon fruit has to be a certain height before it produces flowers. One vine can take up a lot of space. Once they start developing roots, they grow fairly quickly. Mine was a small cutting that I received in April and now its 4 feet tall. They need plenty of light indoors. I don't have experience growing them indoors yet, but this year will be a test. I have mine in a large pot growing on a PVC pipe. Also if you cut it down, it will branch out

jreidsma
09-15-2011, 05:35 PM
Sounds like this might be a bit of a challenge....

It probably could get about 3' maybe 4' and then it would hit the ceiling. And the top 6" wouldn't get any light if it reached the ceiling... And I don't have much room for it to spread out much.

How tall is the minimum to get flowers?

Willow87
09-15-2011, 05:48 PM
I'm not sure how tall it has to actually be to flower but some sites said 5 feet or when the plant weighs 10lbs I think. It has bendable stems so maybe you could train it to grow outwards instead of up. That's what I'm going to have to do since mine reached the top of the PVC pipe.

jreidsma
09-15-2011, 06:42 PM
5 feet might be manageable... I will have to see what I can work out.

About how big of a pot would a plant that size need?

Willow87
09-15-2011, 07:23 PM
I have mine in a fairly large container. I think most people grow theirs in 5-10 gallon containers. but they do have a shallow root system too so I think they need a pot that is more wide than tall. But right now you shouldn't need a big pot because it will hold too much moisture for the cutting. I kept mine in small pots for a while and now I transplanted them into a more permanent container. I think there is a thread on here for dragon fruit. Harvey C and Sunfish would know alot more than I do.

Once I get back form camping I might jump into the dragon fruit thread you are talking about :)

Hey Gang! :waving:

Wow, it's been awhile. Still at the cottage! We're now getting it for half price so we're staying a few more weeks. It's too gorgeous here and we can't pull ourselves away.

I now have internet access here so I can chat and post shots when I'm not swimming at the beach. I took this shot of the sunset a few evenings ago...

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/3rd%20album/IMG_1179.jpg

Hope everyone is well. :nanadrink:

Cam...

Aero-Garden screwed up the order and sent it to me instead! I will either place another order or re-mail the other box to you...whatever's convenient. I'll let you know when but likely Tuesday of next week. I apologize for the delay, but they screwed up Bob's order too and forgot to include sponges and fertilizer! He had to wait two weeks before he could even get his system started!

Guess what I brought to enjoy, here at the cottage? Janan's 'Marble' hot pepper plant! Here it is...

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/3rd%20album/IMG_1166.jpg

Gorgeous, eh Janan? :goteam:

Oh and I heard through the grapevine that Cam and Janan are ok, with all the fires in Texas...but that it's very scary. I bet! So glad you guys are alright.

So very sorry to hear about Patty. I'm gonna post in her thread soon...

Hi Sherry. I'm glad you are having a great vacation. That picture is beautiful. I heard about Patty from another plant forum. Sherry you know how patient I am lol. I was looking for the package earlier in the week and got worried about it, but I can definitely wait longer. I appreciate you doing that for me

I find they make a lot of mistakes and screw things up...however they do correct things when you tell them what happened. Just sorry they sent it to my address when I gave them yours Cam, and specified that it was a gift and to ship it to your address. It was sent to me though, as a gift from you! :ha:

I will correct it asap. Not to worry Cam, you'll have what you need soon.

So I've really missed you guys, but now with internet service, I can chat and post pics more.

More shots when I return from the beach shortly...

Lol I appreciate you sending me the aero garden supplies. Its been a little quiet here lately. Just me, Jordan and Janan. I got my plumeria seeds today so I'm trying a different technique. I'm floating the bottom part of the seed in water with a little hydrogen peroxide. I hope I have more success this time.
How is the weather there? It finally rained yesterday and it felt so nice with the cooler temperatures

Just got back from the beach...

There's a sailboat race today, so I was watching it. Plus I went for a swim too. I also went to 'Mackies'...famous for their homemade fries. They're only open on weekends now that summer is nearly over.

The weather has been fantastic here. Some cool days but mostly warm enough for swimming. I love watching the sunset every night. Here's a pic from last evening...

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/3rd%20album/IMG_1199.jpg

It's so peaceful and relaxing here. One of the best (and longest) vacations I've ever had. I love being a hop, skip, and a jump away from the beach...

It sure was fun swimming on this day...

Sorry to hear about your dad too. My dad passed away as well, at the young age of 52!

Death really sucks. :(

So yes, we have been having lots of fun here. Nothing but swimming, long beach walks, hiking, bonfires with roasted marshmallows, bar-b-ques, beach picnics, good movies...and shopping! :ha:

Here's some more shots I took yesterday evening...

I love the sunset photos. Its been cloudy here for most of the day but the sun is coming out. A friend sent me some Double Yellow datura and Triple Purple datura seeds. I was only expecting some white datura seeds but they sent me the 2 other varieties. I'll have to grow them as indoor plants but I have plenty of seeds for next year

The Hollyberry Lady
09-17-2011, 05:01 PM
I picked up some assorted cactus seeds and some more huge sunflower seeds that I'll pass onto you, Cam.

Tonight I'm going to a beach party but it's not until 9 or 10 pm and will go all night. It could be a late one. :nanadrink:

The Hollyberry Lady

The party was pretty fun. I'm not a big drinker though so I didn't stay too late. There was a huge bonfire and lots of good tunes. :D

So I was about to head down to the beach for a swim. It's a gorgeous sunny day here. There's also a cool restaurant/bar here, right on the beach. Today is their last day of the season before they close up for Fall & Winter. They're selling their food today at 70% off so I thought I'd go get some natchos and wings or something later.

Kinda bummed today a bit and need to cheer up. It's my brother's birthday and I miss him. :(

I'll be on later for sure. Hope you guys have a great Sunday. Chat soon...

:waving: Hi Gang!

Hubby took leave so we've been away for a bit.

Sherry those pictures are gorgeous! My two favorites are the foaming waves, and the sunset with the sun showing in the middle of the picture. Those could be post cards!

Yes, that marble is finally showing it's true COLORS (pun intended :ha:)! It looks beautiful.

Cam that is very ingenoius with your floating plumeria seeds. I will be watching to see how it works out for you. Very clever!!!

Jordan I am glad you got your surprise box. I hope everything handled the trip well. I know the names of everything in case I missed a label or two. I believe the little aloe looking one is called Haworthia Gasteria cross. The small dragon fruit is American Beauty and the large arm (which you can cut into thirds if you want to) is Guyute - Hylocereus undatus (from Viet Nam).

Gotta run. I have some new pictures to take!!! :)

Looks like everyone is having some fun :)

Looks like a great beach hut your at Sherry :) Looks like a great place more a needed vacation.

Hi everyone. Jordan I hope you had a great camping trip. Janan I looked today and some of the seeds are already developing roots. I put them in purified water with a cap full of hydrogen peroxide and I put a small aquarium heater in the water and I already have seeds that are about to germinate, after only 2 days

jreidsma
09-18-2011, 02:44 PM
Hope they keep up the good growth for ya :)

I had a decent time camping. Mom didn't get mad a lot this time. But I am now sick yet again.

And here's one more thing to make me hate school; you can only miss ten days of school for every half a year. So for half the year I can only miss ten days. If you go over that amount they give you a D- on your final exams in every class.... Instantly making it so every collage won't want you pretty much because you had a fail year.

And when you are sick as much as me that worries you.

I just got done cleaning a fish tank :) My brackish water bumble bee goby tank :) It was staying clouded up for some reason, and I found out that it was because the frozen food was getting stuck in the decor and rocks.

So I threw out everything that would hold food. I replaced the rocks with sand, and got it all set up again. They seem to like it :)

Also got a post threw in the dragon fruit thread.

Wow, busy day :ha:

Jordan, I wanted to tell you that I put all of my dragon fruit cuttings into a hanging basket. I may not ever get fruit, but I like plants that have a draping look to them. They are still in that hanging basket now two years later. I will try and get a picture for you.

Here is a link to the guy I got my original cuttings from:

2 RED+2 WHITE+2 PURPLE DRAGON FRUIT(PITAHAYA) 3 in 1 | eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-RED-2-WHITE-2-PURPLE-DRAGON-FRUIT-PITAHAYA-3-1-/260855542152?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cbc33b188#ht_9760wt_1247)

The American Beauty I got from SuperMario off here at bananas.

I really want fruit off mine. But if it will be too much of a hassle or they won't then I will just keep them trimmed and a bit smaller.

Thanks for the link :)

I have found so far that the dragon fruit will need a five gallon pot, and about 5' tall to produce fruit. I will just have to see what I can do and go from there.

Hope you don't stay bummed for to long Sherry :)

I'm hoping mine produces fruit next year. I fed it quite a bit this year and at first it took it a while to grow but now its growing fast. I still need to get a T shape PVC pipe at the top so I can drape the dragonfruit over it. I'm really happy about my plumeria seeds because everyone of them seems plump and about to push out a root. Janan I ended up getting some double yellow and triple purple datura seeds from a friend. I wasn't expecting those but they sent extra seeds. I'm going to bring them indoors during winter and try to grow them as houseplants

Cam, I really like the look and the leaves of Papaya also. I haven't tasted many, but the ones that I did try to me tasted and smelled like vomit! I know that is so gross. I think they need to be mixed and blended with other fruit and sweeteners in a smoothie or something to get the health benefits from them. But they have been really easy for me to sprout and grow.

Jordan the dragon fruit flowers are huge and open at night and die the next day. I hope mine blooms next year. Cam I saw that you had that huge red cell right over the top of Plano yesterday evening. I was thinking about you! If you saw my weather picture thread, I can tell you we didn't get a drop at my house. If you look closely in the last two pictures I was actually taking pictures of the rain as it went by but not a drop on me. :( You can just see my front yard and the folks across the street. Nothing but brown. It is so ugly, and we are on water restriction too.

Sherry I miss you too! Greg went back to work this morning. He is in a use it or lose it because he has too many vacation days. They told him take a week last month, a week this month, a week in October and November, and two weeks in December. I just love your deer shots!!!! They are such beautiful creatures.

My pachypodium brevicaule just went dormant the other day :) Hope it does well and maybe it will flower when it comes back in a couple months :)

This plant has been a bit tricky so far. A bit picky on what it wants, but nothing too hard yet. Just a bit more maintenance and baby-ing.

The same grower on ebay that I bought mine from is selling a larger one for over $200. Maybe mine will make it to that size in the future.

Some of my baby cacti just made some needles! :D CUTE :ha:

I think I may have a plan with the dragon fruit. Maybe if I can keep them more compact then they won't hit my ceiling. Maybe spiral them on something instead of going straight up? Or maybe (like suggested on the dragon fruit thread) drape them over once they reach a certain height. I got my self all excited about them now and I really want flowers :ha:

Burns are a part of life. If burn would stop us then how would we react to something bigger..... Like a paper cut! :ha: (Joke intended there)

Oh and Cam...

I re-ordered your stuff yesterday afternoon from Aero-garden. They said the order will likely go out on Thursday and you'll get it in 5-8 business days after that. I got you a bag of 125 sponges and also a 50 pack of nutrients too. I have the bulbds at home but you won't be needing them for awhile so I'll send them when I get home from the cottage in a few weeks, along with the seeds I got for you also.

Here's your order # in case you want to check on things. They assured me that the package will go to YOUR address this time...

# 100141747-1 :08:

I placed the order on September 20th at 5pm. Let me know when you get it. Shouldn't be too long.

Ok yesterday I was in London watering my plants and topping up my aero-gardens. I have Aurora pepper fruits forming in one of my A-Gs. All my plants are thriving in there now. Think I will have yellow Hahms Gelbe tomatoes soon too!

We gotta do laundry today and pick up a load of groceries too. Ran some errands at Wal-Mart yesterday and picked up some Shaw's ice cream too. Shaw's has the best ice cream around and my favorite kind is peanut butter chocolate.

Wow Jordan. I think its going to be in the upper 50s tonight. A cold front moved through and there were a few drops of rain behind it. I look forward to the cooler weather. I am guessing by "wow Jordan" you mean how cold it is, right?

It would be a lot easier if the plants would go dormant wouldn't it :ha:

Maybe I should be getting everything ready for my lotus and elephant ears. The lotus I will just have to cut the leaves off and put them in a very large jar in my fridge or something. They can't freeze, and they can't grow inside as they are too big, so in the fridge they go :ha:

My elephant ears I guess I just let them go until the leaves start dieing, then I cut them back to just the bulb and keep them dry or something.

I wish the lows were in the 40s here. I'm so tired of the heat. I like snow but not ice, though it does make some pretty formations. The only plant I have that goes dormant and doesn't need light, is my plumeria. It looks like a stick in winter time lol. I don;t think my lotus plants made it. They stopped growing and died back when the temperatures were well into the 100s. Maybe they are dormant? I hope they are alive. I have them in a tub right now and I don't see any growth. Maybe tomorrow I will check to see if the rhizome survived. I love elephant ears. I had some at my old house, they didn't get that big but I loved the tropical look they created in my yard. My plumeria is going dormant right now. Its losing a few leaves

My eyes are very, very bright blue, and they are very sensitive to the light. And so the snow really hurts my eyes. And I hate the cold :ha:

Sounds like the plumeria are pretty easy to care for in the winter then :) my Pachypodium brevicaule is dormant now and it just lost its leaves. It still looks like a small blob with spikes coming out of it :ha:

I can just imagine someone that doesn't know what a plumeria, coming into your house and asking why you have sticks in soil. :ha:

My elephant ears are pretty large. Their leaves are a good couple feet long and wide. Then they also have several pups I think coming next to them.

Janan, do you know what stapelia these "stinky star" succulents are? There's a couple species of them that actually smell nice.

I don't mind the cold weather, but i don't like when its bitterly cold. I would rather be cold than hot lol. I know some people have problems with spider mites when they bring their plumerias indoors but I've never seen one and I hope never to see one lol. My mom thought my plumeria was dead but I told her its just dormant. I may try putting it by a sunny window to see if it still goes dormant. There was one interesting elephant ear that I saw in a gardening magazine called 'Coffee Cups' its so interesting

The weather is wacky around where I am. With Lake Michigan right next door a couple miles away. And then the other Great Lakes surrounding the rest of the state.

With the wind chill last Winter we had some days in the negatives.

I only have my two elephant ears outside, and my one inside. The African Mask one that is flowering almost constantly now. It's pretty cool looking. Maybe I will get some seeds :D I have it indoors.

I love the heat the hotter the better. I get so down in the winter. It gets to cold here even for me. I donot know how some live in the snow. I could not stand that for sure. So im grateful for are winters. But I would love it if it was warm all year round. I was born in the wrong state.Im grateful we have no snow here.Ok had to vent LOL

Its funny Greg, because I love chilly and dreary weather, for some reason it brings my mood up. I guess I'm strange lol. I saw a picture of your African Mask plant, I had one of those several years ago, but I couldn't keep mine alive.

I wish it was about 70 Degrees all year :ha: But that would be a little bad for some plants.

I agree with you, Greg, once winter gets here (or when ever the snow comes) it just screws up everything. Makes me feel kind of sad also. I guess I am in the wrong state also :) Michigan can get bad for those of us that don't like snow and ice :ha:

I don't like heat though :ha: I guess I am rather picky....

I wish my African Mask would make some pups :) Or maybe even better; some seeds from these flowers it keeps shooting off! There's three flowers right now and if each would have seeds... ;)

70 degrees is the perfect temperature for me. I hope you do get seeds from your African Mask. I planted some of my plumeria seeds in pots today. Some have roots on them.

We are talking about the aroid one, if you do a google image search for "African mask aroid" it will show up.

I did a quick search and found out something new :D When I re-potted mine last year I noticed small nut looking things on its roots. And just found out they where baby tubers :) Maybe when I replant it again I will look and see how many it has and what to do with them.

Glad your plumeria seeds are sprouting :)

I think I lost a few seedlings but as long as I have a few live, I'm alright with it. I want to try cuttings when I get some money

Hi, Gang!

Hope everyone's having a fabulous weekend so far. :woohoonaner:

By the way Cam...I got an email from Aero-Garden saying that your stuff was sent out on Wednesday, not Thursday. You should get it next week for sure. :D

It's a super beautiful and warm day today. I'm just heading over to the beach for a swim. Be back soon...

Hi Sherry! I got the aero garden supplies today, I was so happy to see it. I planted my 3 different types of datura in it. Thank you so much for the supplies. How is your weekend? I went out today with my family and ate lunch and got ice cream then we stopped by Half Price books and I picked up a Houseplant Encyclopedia for $4. Its very warm outside but at least its not in the 100s

I have multiple house plant encyclopedias and a bunch of other plant books.

I just found out today that the computer I built the beginning of this year is now outdated...... The integrated graphics are too low speed to support anything.... So now one of my computers is running on "fallback" mode in Gnome because my integrated video sucks... And video cards aren't cheap! I think one that would work would be about $60-$70+ I will just have to hunt around a little bit and see what I can find.

I spent all day doing stuff to my computers :ha: Just to find out that its too outdated to properly run what I have on it.

Craigslist! :ha:

I had a few houseplant books but I gave them away because they were really outdated. I wish I knew more about computers.

I have some houseplant books from 1915. I don't go to them for info though :ha: Once they get older they turn into more of a antique collectable then anything else.

I wish that it wasn't so expensive to build computers. I had all the parts online to make a decent computer with decently new parts and it was still going to be about $300-$400 dollars. And it wouldn't be able to do any high definition gaming. It's still a lot cheaper to build one then to buy one though. The computer my family bought from Best Buy was about $1000 I think, and I could build one pretty much the same, in fact a bit better, for about $500+.

The one I posted about in the last post I built with $120 maybe a bit lower because I got more then just that one computer. I bought like 5 computers at a garage sale for $20, took out the parts I could use, then traded what was left for more parts I could use, and a dell computer from 1998. I got the case at a garage sale for $3, and then all I had to do was get the rest of the more complicated inside parts that I couldn't find anywhere local. Then I put two DVD burners and a floppy drive in it :ha: Floppy disk are useless though most of the time.

Maybe later I will post some screen shots or something of what they look like running.

One of my small cacti are turning a funny color:

Then here's my other three UN-IDed cacti:

If any one knows what species they are please tell me :) I have had the last three 5-6+ years and still don't know what they are.

(You can see the carrion flower and haworthia in the background that Janan sent me :) )

Wow those are nice looking cactus plants. I don't know much about cactus species unfortunately. I wish I could build my own computer the one I have isn't too good lol
