I bought a new computer game and my family was playing it for about 4 hours. Everyone is in bed now except me.

Just posting mainly because I haven't been lately and wanted to let you guys know I've been reading posts, just not posting to much.

Glad you're feeling better, Cam. ;) Good idea Greg, about the 7-up.

Sorry we missed you again, Yug. :(

So how's everyone's Sunday going? Mine's ok. Just got home. Girlfriends are coming over with Chinese food later for dinner and to spend the evening.

Hello, gang! :waving:

My friends just left shortly ago. We decided to go out for Chinese food on this coming holiday Friday, so I made us a late dinner instead. I'll show a shot in the dinner thread soon.

It's the long weekend coming up and I'm likely going to a cottage on the beach, with some pals. Hope the weather is good so we can play some volleyball. Maybe even do some swimming too...my favorite.

So how's the night going? Wow those are some wicked hours you're keeping Yug...no wonder we never get to chat! :ha:

So I took some shots this evening even though I had company. I've known them since we were kids though so it's more like having family over.

I also have some stuff typed out that I didn't have time to post earlier. Chat soon...

Hey Sherry, I'll be passing near by in two weeks. I'm going from my house to Chicago via buffalo. Going to spend a day around rochester. I'd cut through Canadia but I think we need passports now. It is a shame. I would like to have the wife and kids see niagra falls.

The Hollyberry Lady

Oh goody...I was hoping there would be. They're very thoughtful and meaningful. I enjoy stuff like that better than I do T.V.

Actually, I'm not really a huge T.V fan. Rather putter around in my garden than sit around watching sitcoms. Not big on soap operas either.

I do watch a lot of 48-hour mystery and sometimes the cooking shows, to learn more tips and recipes, but my most favorite thing of all to watch are...GARDENING SHOWS!!! :goteam:

I could spend an entire day and night watching them, if they're good. This to me is excitement! :ha: I can't get enough.

So how's your weather today, Greg? Ours is warm and sunny! No rain for a change! :D

Good morning Sherry. I used some fish fertilizer on my plants today. The stuff stinks even though it says deodorized lol. Your orange mint looks so cool

The Hollyberry Lady
06-28-2011, 11:19 AM
Thanks, Cameron. :waving:

How's your Tuesday going so far?

Yeah, fish emulsion is stinky stuff but it's amazing for your plants. Expect lots of growth now that you've applied it. One tip though...

If you're using fish emulsion outdoors, dig small holes around the plant and add the water into the holes, but then cover them back over. If not, the stink of the fish will attract flies everywhere! You need to bury the odor, in a sense. Same in pots too...don't just water it right into them or flies will be all over the place in no time. Make holes and fill them, but then cover them when you're finished. ;)

There are some men on our roof blowing debris and leaves out of the troughs I guess. It scared the hell out me because I was watering a plant in the window and some guy was standing on one of the awnings, staring straight in at me! Who does he think he is!

They're supposed to give us notice when work is being done, and I'm mad that I was not told. I was half dressed and felt like my privacy had been totally invaded. I intend on speaking to the owners about this. Sheesh.

Anyway, hope everyone's having a great day. :D

The Hollyberry Lady
06-28-2011, 12:50 PM
Likely not until the Fall, Zac. :waving:

But regardless, I still live here right now and pay good rent, and we're entitled to notice. I shouldn't have had to deal with some strange man staring through my windows like that while I was standing there in my underwear!

So yeah, the mail strike is still in effect. Gosh I hope it doesn't last the summer! That would be just awful. If it does work out that way, I'll just have to send things to some of you guys in the fall. It's out of our control so we'll see how it works out. Fingers crossed.

Kind of a blurry shot but if you look closely you'll see little white buds all over my 'winterberry' shrublets! This means that berries will follow...

Jananas Bananas
06-28-2011, 02:06 PM
Yes, it is but I enjoy it. It just makes the rest of my day so upbeat. :)

I took a few (not all) of the starfruit seedlings out of their seed starter dome. This is the point that my seedlings usually die - so keep your fingers crossed for me. They started wilting almost immediately. I got them transplanted just as fast as I could. I gave them a good drink, misted them all and covered them with individual soda bottle domes (except for one - I want to see if it can acclimate without a dome on it). I know you will ask, I used spagnum (my Canadian Miracle Grow spagnum :ha:) and perlite for their "soil". :) They all perked back up except for the one I didn't cover - so I covered it too. The must need high humidity. I may try setting them outside a little bit each day. It's very humid out there, but so hot. What do you think I should do?

The Hollyberry Lady
06-28-2011, 02:12 PM
Keep them covered until they recover from transplant shock, but be sure to remove all the covers everyday for 10 minutes until they do...then you'll increase to 1/2 hour for a few days...and then an hour, etc., until they're eventually uncovered permanently.

It takes time, and nursing them like babies, but it'll be well worth your effort in the end. ;)

: )

Willow87
06-28-2011, 02:18 PM
Wow Sherry those are beautiful pictures! I love the lilies. I think I can still smell the fish emulsions from outside lol. My banana cannas are producing baby plants finally. I hope your star fruit seedlings survive Janan.

Jananas Bananas
06-28-2011, 02:22 PM
OK I will give that a shot.

Those Winterberry buds are so cute! Did I read that the little blossoms are white?

Are the little striped Fish peppers big enough yet to photograph? I am anxious to see those little boogers! :ha:

I have to rustle up something for lunch. My stomach is growling!

The Hollyberry Lady
06-28-2011, 02:28 PM
Don't laugh Cam...you could have flies everywhere, very soon!

If you do, get out the hose and rinse the area well. Next time, take my suggestion about making holes to water into and then cover back over, so you don't have to smell the foul stench of rotting fish! I can't imagine anything more putrid and I can't see your mother liking it one bit either!

So Cam, I just did Sagittarius in the Zodiac thread, but will do Sheep & Rat next. My mom is a Sagittarius and she's so much like the description I posted, it isn't even funny.

Yup, JaNan, I can get a shot of one of the small "Fish" peppers for you. They have white stripes on them!

Yes, the little bell-like flowers on the winterberry shrublets will be white and they dangle downwards. They leave a white berry behind, which ripens red. This plant is actually wintergreen and the berries smell of and contain oil of wintergreen. A very pleasant odor indeed. The leaves can sometimes smell wintergreen-ish as well. :D

: )

Willow87
06-28-2011, 02:32 PM
I will just water it into the soil next time. I just wanted to do a quick foliar feed for my plants. Surprisingly I haven't seen very many flies. The smell is practically gone now since its pretty windy here. My mom said that it smelt like a lake outside after I sprayed. I've also heard that fish emulsion gets rid of pests such as mosquitoes.

Hi Sherry and Janan. I went to Lowe's earlier and there was a large ornamental pepper with purple leaves for $4. I wanted to get it but I already have quite a few peppers. I had to get some PVC pipe for my dragon fruit. Yes Sherry my birthday is Sunday. Congratulations on the new fridge Janan. My mom wants to get a new oven since the one we have now is outdated

Hi everyone. Sherry the pepper was called Purple Flash Pepper. Though it looked more like an Explosive Amber pepper because I didn't see any white leaves. I'll be 24 Janan on Sunday. Wow Trina you have been busy with planting.

Jananas Bananas
06-29-2011, 05:18 PM
:birthdaynana: 24!!!! :woohoonaner: I am trying to remember 24! Your young enough that you don't mind saying your age! Us gals, don't really like to make those kind of announcements unless it is 18 or 21, and we HATE 30! At least I did! :ha: That is actually one of my lucky numbers because Greg, Jamie, and Christian were all born on the 24th of their months.

I had a good friend that I believed was a very old soul. You can see it in the palms of your hands. Look at them and see if you can see any stars made by the lines. That means you are wise beyond your years. I'll bet you are a rock for your Mom and she leans on you a lot! She thanks God every day that you are her son!

Yep I'm going to be 24 lol. Sherry I may get the Purple Flash pepper plant tomorrow. I'm not sure but I really like it. It was very healthy and bushy. I know it has dark purple leaves with lighter purple splotches and eventually it gets some white leaves

Jananas Bananas
06-29-2011, 06:59 PM
Save us some seeds if you get it Cam! I'll have to look and see if any of the ones I go to have it. I think that Jigsaw of mine was similarly colored, but it has tiny leaves and is a dwarf pepper. I think Purple Flash is a larger one isn't it Sherry?

Willow87
06-29-2011, 07:05 PM
Ok Janan. I think I'm going to talk to my mom and tell her if I can get it, even though she told me no more plants lol. It did have several purple flowers on it so the peppers aren't too far off. I think Purple Flash grows to a little over a foot.

Jananas Bananas
06-29-2011, 07:43 PM
Where did Sherry disappear to? Let's see she may have made a run to her 24 hour nursery. I don't know why but I am really jealous of that? :ha:

"If I don't have it, I just won't be happy"...or..."If you get it for me, you'll benefit too"! :ha:

Try these first Cam and if they don't work, I've got some more up my sleeve. :D

Well, photobucket kept seizing earlier and the phone rang off the hook and then my girlfriends showed up!

I want seeds from that purple flash pepper...are there fruits on it already, Cam? I've never grown it and would like to see it.

So you're jealous of the 24 hour nursery I live near, eh JaNan? http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/2nd%20album/emo1.gif

It's only small but she gets in some surprisingly cool stuff and it's all year round. This weekend being Canada Day, they'll get in a bunch new stuff! If I do buy something, I'll have to de-gnat-ify it first! :ha: We'll see...

So yeah did you see the cute little Canada Day frosted cupcakes my girlfriends brought...

Are those little Red Oak leaves? Too cute! Is Canada Day Independence Day for you or do you have another Independence Day? I see the Royal couple (William and Kate) are on the way to see you. I like them together! They are cute. I loved Princess Diana. I thought she was stunning and so full of Grace.

Are you bilingual? Do you speak French? I don't know why that just popped into my mind.

Nope, they're little maple leaves JaNan, like our flag. Yes, Canada Day is exactly Independence Day. It's Friday for us but it's Monday for you. :D

No, I will look now Greg. I'm sorry I missed it...

Oh and I do speak some French but just what I learned in school. I'm not bilingual though.

Hi, Yug. Didn't you already post that before? I thought I was seeing things! :ha:

Those are some wild hours you're keeping and I was saying that it's no wonder we hardly get to chat.

Do you guys have a long weekend coming up, or is it the following weekend? Ours is this weekend, and Friday is a holiday...Canada Day. :goteam:

Be right back...

I only posted it once - maybe the application 'burped'? Should I (can I) go back and delete it?

Hi everyone. I'm on my way to Home Depot now if I don't see anything there. I'll get the Purple Flash and save some seeds for you Janan and Sherry. I didn't see fruits on any of them, just flowers. The fruits are really small like the Black Pearl

Hi Sherry and Janan. I went to 2 different Home Depot stores and there wasn't anything that interested me. I saw some Persian Shield plants but they were sickly. So Tomorrow I'm going to get the Purple Flash Pepper and some potting soil to replant my other peppers in better soil.

Wow, that's so nice of you, Cam...to save JaNan and I some seeds!

Sorry about that...I had some computer problems. Think I fixed it now. :D

So yeah, a bar-b-que would be cool, even if it was just hamburgers and hotdogs...although a thick juicy steak would be cool...or even some meaty ribs!

Alright, I'll stop. :ha:

Birthdays are always full of surprises and wonderful things...I've always loved them, even if they're not my own. :birthdaynana:

I especially love to surprise friends with gifts they don't expect...like the time I had two concert tickets for a friend who thought she couldn't get them. Boy was she happily shocked. :D Just seeing how excited she was and how happy I'd made her, was like a gift right back to me!

Mmmmmm...a chocolate chip cake sounds yummy. Do you think she'll make it for ya?

JaNan, did you see the shot of the little variegated "fish" pepper I showed in the hot pepper thread for you? It's so cute. ;)

Hi Sherry. I got the pepper plant today. The more I look at it, the more I think it is mislabeled. It looks more like a Black Pearl Pepper, if it is, then its still aright. I repotted all of my other plants and I took pictures of another sunflower bloom. I don't know which one this is.

I really like it alot. I have it inside by a sunny window, along with my other pepper plants. I was really hoping it was Purple Flash but I should have known better. Lowe's usually mislabels its plants. I think there are a couple of small peppers on it already. I think you are right about it being the color fashion mix sunflower. I really love the look of it

The Hollyberry Lady
07-01-2011, 09:55 AM
You have really outdone yourself with sunflowers this year, Cameron! I couldn't have shared my seeds with anyone better! I love all of them.

Thanks so much Sherry. Next year I'm going to have to expand my front flowerbed because the sunflowers are competing with each other and Russian Mammoth is shading all of the others. Its nearly 6 feet tall now. I'm so glad you gave me the seeds, I really like sunflowers alot now. I really do like the Black Pearl and hopefully I will have seeds to share with friends. So far I don't think I have any plans for my birthday which is still alright lol

I think your sunflowers are the best and you really keep surprising me every time you show a new one bloomed. There's something so downright cheerful about sunflowers, eh?

Well, today is a holiday so the girls and I are going out for Chinese food. I'm really gonna chow down, and we were joking about wearing elastic waistbands!!! :ha:

Congratulations Greg. I have a feeling every store will be crowded anyways on Sunday. I like to stay home though last year I did enjoy going to a restaurant for my birthday. I'm really impressed with sunflowers, I never would have thought I would grow them. I know a man several years ago had acres of sunflowers and the city made him cut all of them down because they considered them weeds.

So glad you got it, Cameron!!! :goteam: We thought you might.

Now look, I only paid for half of it, but JaNan did ALL the work. She is the one who put this all into action. I mentioned to her about getting you one and she said she was thinking the same thing, so we agreed to pay half each. We were hoping you'd get it for your birthday so that's just great.

Now, even though it's used, it'll work like a charm. JaNan bleached it and worked hard to clean it. Don't worry about the slight discoloration...the plants will grow and cover it anyway.

Now you are an official aero-gardener! :08:

Let's wait for JaNan to return and partake in the festivities! Oh she'll be so happy! Now do you see why we were teasing you about a secret and about your getting an aero-garden?! :ha:

Happy Birthday, Cam. Hope you enjoy. ;)

Now I can grow plants in my bedroom, I'm so happy Sherry and Janan. I can't thank you both enough. I wish I could invite you over. I'll take are picture of it. Thank you again. I really look forward to the mint. I appreciate what you both have done. Even my brother is showing interest in it and he doesn't know much about plants lol. I know you are probably in bed by now and Sherry is watching fireworks, but she will probably pop back in after while.

Fireworks were great! :goteam:

So yeah, Cam, why don't you grow some marigolds this cycle? Get that dill out of there! :ha: Who wants to waste a pod on dill when they could be enjoying blooms!

We just wanted you to have the sponges but you can remove the seeds in them and sow what you want. ;) It's your aero-garden so you should choose what to grow, like JaNan and I did with ours. You don't have to grow what came with your kit...I think JaNan mentioned too.

Mint is invasive and it's better in a pot. I say you forget about mint also and grow something more cool in there that's not going to hog all the food away from everybody else! :ha:

Mint's nice but wouldn't you love to see something more colorful, with fruits or flowers? Not trying to take over your A-G, but rather to plant ideas in your mind! ;)

Just some suggestions. JaNan and I changed our minds 20 times before finally deciding what to grow. Wouldn't those blue cornflowers be adorable in the A-G? Hint, hint. :ha:

Jannan and Sherry thank you so much. This morning when I woke up my thoughts were of what you guys did for Cam. I really thank you guys for that. Its nice to hear good things. This land is full of allot of bad. Sometimes I donot even like to hear the news are read the newspapers at times. Its great to hear good things people do. Thank you. You know it made me feel real good when the missionaries came and dug the new gardens for me I was thinking of how nice that was and ask why me ? and than I rememebered somthing. Back in the day before cancer I went and did makeovers for peoples property for free , me and my brother would go and help sick people and mow and clean there yards up. I have to remember what goes around comes around I somtimes forget that its like the circle. Many blessings to you guys and again thanks.

Hi Gang!

Well I got home last night because we got rained out and my girlfriend got sick. I think she has food poisoning! Figures today would be nice and sunny but it rained all of yesterday at the beach and last night it was thunder and lightening showers.

Gosh Greg, that's so nice of you to mention JaNan & I like that! Doing good deeds for other people is something we both enjoy very much. One thing I've learned in life is that to give, is actually to recieve...because of the good feeling it gives you. I think it's great that you're getting back what you put in for others, and now people are doing good things for you also. I'm a firm believer in 'what comes around, goes around'. You are so welcome, Cam. ;)

JaNan has been reduced to tears from it all and she's so happy. What a sweet lady she is to make this all happen like she did. It's easy to mention an idea but putting it into action is what really counts...and she sure did!!! :D

I love it that you're happy, Cam. This makes it so worthwhile to us. You deserve to have it and I hope you enjoy it lots and reap many bountiful harvests from it. ;)

A suggestion...

You could also plant the basil outside or in pots too and use that pod too for something more exciting. I just think herbs grow so easily in pots and the aero-garden is special and should be used to grow special things. You can certainly use your system any way you like though Cam, so don't let me boss you. :ha:

Oh and I posted a really long post in the aero-garden thread but please read it. It will put ideas into your mind and give you a few tips and pointers. You're lucky because you won't have to make any of the mistakes JaNan and I have made.

Not to worry about losing any of the herb seeds. I can replace them all for you. Now that our mail strike is over, I'll be sending out stuff to Bob, JaNan, and you Cam first, but I need to wait a couple weeks because they are prioritizing the mail right now on account of the strike. Things should be back to normal though in a couple weeks. I'm going to send you seeds for 'little blue' hot pepper, Cam. I think you really like it and you saw it in my aero-garden. Oh and I still have your white thanksgiving cactus as well. ;)

I can't wait to grow more ornamental peppers. I guess I'm addicted to them lol

Thanks guys....it was just windows updates that needed to be done but I had to shut down afterwards.

So tomorrow is a holiday for you guys...the 4th of July!!! :goteam:

What are your plans?

Cam, you're so welcome for the aero-garden...JaNan and I are just tickled that you have it and that you're happy. :birthdaynana:

Don't worry about getting that seed kit to start your own seeds...JaNan and I are already
on it! ;) For now though, you've got three pods to grow your own stuff in...where the mint, dill, and basil used to be? Then you've got the wonderful pepper varieties that JaNan included in your kit. Will this keep you happy for this cycle? I'll be sure to get the sow-your-own seed kit out to you shortly though, so no worries. It comes with more fertilizer packets too.

You're good to go. ;)

How are things looking in the unit? It takes a few days for the peppers. JaNan & I both know the waiting can be awful so just keep browsing through the A-G thread to keep you going until yours come up! :ha:

Oh I can't wait to see your stuff grow too, Cam. Will you post lots of shots with us in the A-G thread? :D

I'm glad you are back Sherry. I don't have any plans for tomorrow, my sister is going to have drinks with a friend and my brother is probably going to be on his computer after work lol.
I keep checking my aerogarden every hour or so, I just can't help it lol. You and Janan are so sweet but you have already done so much for me and you don't have to worry about getting me a seed kit. Like you said I have plenty to grow right now. In the place of the mints and dill I have the rudbeckia and cosmos along with the pepper plants so I'm very content. So far all I see is the condensation and the pepper seeds look a little swollen. So hopefully I should have sprouts soon. I just love my aerogarden and I have looked through the aerogarden growers site to look up more info. Its just very interesting all the things you can grow.

The Hollyberry Lady

I never ever do things because I have to, or out of obligation...only because I want to. :) The truth is we wanted the A-G to get to you by your birthday so it didn't give us a lot of time. There are many more things I'd like to share with you though...like more seeds to grow in your A-G and in your gardens. I'm sending some plants and cuttings to you soon anyway so don't be surprised if one of those seedkits shows up in the box as well. I just have to go to a store to buy A-G supplies but it seems you and JaNan have to order online.

I was the same way Cam, when I first got my system...checking every 10 minutes! :ha: I wasn't gonna miss a thing...no siree! You'll see little white grow tails first, sticking out of the seed. The process is so fun to watch. Normally seeds are under soil so you wouldn't get to watch how they germinate. It's so interesting and fun to see. You're really gonna enjoy yourself, Cam. :D

So did you replace the basil too, or did you decide to keep it in there? Still going with the cosmos and what was the other one? Annual seeds usually sprout really quickly. A good 3 to four days and usually something is popping so just be patient a little while longer and you'll soon see...

: )

Willow87
07-03-2011, 08:52 PM
Well I appreciate all that you and Janan have done. I need to save up some money so I can send you some cuttings of the Dragon's blood sedum and the Blue Spruce sedum. I told my mom that I have a pepper farm now because the sunny window in the dining room has 2 tables of pepper plants LOL. I can't wait to see the seeds germinate, I love watching things grow, and since my plants outside are in survival mode due to the heat, its nice to have something growing normally indoors. I replaced the dill and the mint but I still have the parsley but I may replace that too, but I don't know what to replace it with. I may have to keep the cosmos trimmed if they sprout faster and grow faster than the pepper seeds. The other one was the Black Eyed susan I think.

The Hollyberry Lady
07-03-2011, 09:27 PM
We know you appreciate it Cam, and you deserve it, so enjoy. ;)

You don't have any of the seeds I sent you left? Yes, I'd sure love some of that sedum. It shouldn't cost a fortune to send them in a little pill bottle, in a bubble wrap envelope, so no worries.

Cosmos is super tall and it's an annual so it'll sprout and grow fast. I just worry it'll become over-run and too tall for you. Good planning is everything and you'll avoid frustration later. But if you feel strongly about it, that's ok too. We learn from our experience.

Something else to consider...

Did you know that you can put an already existing seedling or plant from a pot, and transfer it into your aero-garden to begin growing immediately?! You sure can. Maybe you should put your micro-tom in there. I wouldn't waste a pod on parsley...but then it's not my aero-garden so the choices are all yours Cam. Think about later though, as things are growing and maturing...what will hold your interest and be exciting to grow in your system...that's what to choose. :08:

Ok so you're sticking with the three kinds of hot peppers....is this correct? That will be very exciting and colorful. Plus you get to eat 'em!

Sorry Tom, we're all a little aero-garden-happy here! :ha:

Next, Tom will be buying an A-G for the Fam! :goteam:

Hey, that's not a bad idea! ;)

Hey Tom, did you know that today is Cam's birthday? Yup, it is, and I started a b-day thread for him.

I used up all of the pepper seeds and the dumb grasshoppers ate some of my sprouts outside. I didn't know you could transfer plants that are already growing into the aerogarden. Maybe I will try my new potted peppers instead of the cosmos and Black Eyed Susan. That way I just have peppers growing in it. I want to see if one of the Fish peppers grows better in it. Thanks for telling me that option. I think the color of the peppers will hold my interests more than the parsley lol. I have the mini jalapeno, the Red Fire peppers and the Super hot purple peppers.

LOL that's true. I'll collect the cuttings of the Black Pearl tomorrow to fill in the last remaining pods. Is there anything special that I need to do?

Jananas Bananas
07-03-2011, 10:24 PM
I haven't done it with peppers, but it worked for a tomato branch that I broke off accidentally and a Penta. I just made a fresh clean cut and stuck it down deeply in the pod. You may have to split the pod some (I used a serrated edge knife) to able to get the stem down in there. Sherry may have some hints for rooting.

The Hollyberry Lady
07-03-2011, 10:54 PM
Stick that baby down into a sponge and watch it root. It's as simple as that! Although I haven't rooted cuttings in the A-G yet, I've done it many times with soil which is much more difficult.

I told you you'd change your mind 20 times before deciding, Cam! LoL. JaNan and I are seeing ourselves, in you.

Oh yes, I recall that some of your seedlings were eaten before. I can surely send you more seeds to grow in your a-g. You'll have to choose some from the seed trader's thread.

Oh you're welcome about telling you about the Fish pepper option and putting it in your A-G. It will love it in there. So did you do it yet? Hope you read my post in the aero-garden thread...

Ok now again, this is only a suggestion because you are the boss of your A-G so you get to decide Cam, but...

Why waste two pods growing the same plant. The black pearl variety is fairly large too, so having two of them will be extra crowded. However, what about growing the marigolds you wanted to...or even sticking another pepper variety altogether in there?

You could take out the wilted black pearl and put something different it there. It takes time to plan a good garden so don't worry about changing your mind about things.

You could also be wishing I'd just keep my suggestions to myself because you know what you want to grow in your own Aero-Garden! In which case I'll stifle it immediately! :ha: I just thought I'd point things out that you may not have thought of yet.

Great shot. Love the little Fish. :08:

Have you joined the Aero-Garden Community Forum, Cam? :2738:

Janan and I are both members there too. I just finished a new thread there for my 2nd system called "My Rainbow Jungle". I have another thread for my 1st aero-garden called "HbL's 1st time personalized aero-garden"...or something like that, and then a third thread showing my plants not in the A-G's.

I don't spend a lot of time there but I usually copy and paste my posts from here. You'll see a lot of great pictures of the things people are growing Cam, so you should check it out. One lady is even growing cucumbers!

Another lady's dad is growing gorgoeus coleus and zinnias and she showed pics that are breathtaking. A guy even grew a watermelon!!! For real..and he ate it too!

The Hollyberry Lady
07-04-2011, 04:52 PM
Oh yes...I forgot I sent you FireCracker!!! :08: Now that one would be gorgeous variety because it would trail down the side of your aero-garden. How stunning it would be. Then you'll have 7 different kinds in there with none the same. :D

Just tell your mom that designing an aero-garden is a work of art in progress and it takes time to develop a masterpiece! :ha:

It's true though. Sometimes you don't realize until you get stuff in there, what it will be like and it's ok to change your mind. At least when you do finally decide on what you want, it'll be only the best of stuff and it'll be well planned and thought out.

Glad to hear you'll join the aero-garden site. It's cool there but a lot of them grow the aero-garden seed kits whereas Janan and I grow our own stuff. I like being creative and designing my own garden instead of what their seedkits contain. My seeds are better! :ha:

Maybe you're thinking you'd like to use one of your pods just to germinate and root stuff for elsewhere...like the garden or pots. You can use your system for just about anything you want to. It's very personal and everybody has different ideas of what they want to do. I'm really just trying to give you ideas but I think you know what you like and want, so please feel free to do things completely your way. ;)

But do let us know what you decide on...and show shots! :ha:

Alright Janan, where are you and where are the pictures?! :ha:

Good morning. Pineapple is still scared. He just sets on his pearch. Not sure if he is eating. We left yesterday and went to my sisters. He may have ate than. Im sure he will be ok. Tomorrow they are going to be working on the power lines. We are going to be with out electric. Were going to my sisters and im taking Pineapple hope he will be ok with that.
We had fun at my sisters. We barbq hot dogs and hamburgers. Than me and my sister rode bikes. Man that was fun. Than we had fireworks tell 11:00 im tired today. Sleepy.

It took my birds a while to get use to me and my family but we took small steps with them. Me and my sister first started petting our first bird with one of her toys and she loved it, eventually she wanted our fingers to pet her. Me and my sister also nuzzle her with our noses and she loves that too. In my opinion its easier for birds by themselves to break out of uncomfortableness. Since there are no other birds, he should soon consider you part of his flock. You have to be persistent with birds or you will never get anywhere. But right now he has to get used to seeing the same people over and over again. My first bird did the same thing of not eating. It also helps to put birds in areas where you and your family congregate so they can feel they are part of your family since they are social animals

Here's the thing though Greg...when you have a new bird who's just been brought home, you have to treat them differently and more sensitively than a bird who's been in the family for years.

Right now, Pineapple is truly terrified! So the more quiet you can give him for now, the better. I would keep him in a quiet place for the first week, away from too many people and lots of commotion, which will only scare him more at this point.

I wouldn't take him to your sister's yet either. It's too soon, and he's barely used to you or your home yet. Give him time and be patient. A day at home in the peace and quiet while you're at your sister's will actually be good for him right now and he can have a look around and get used to things without fear of too many strange people around. Leave a radio on for him with soft classical or easy listening type music playing low.

I kept a cover over 3/4's of Henry's cage for nearly 4 days when I first brought him home because too much visual stimulation at first can be more terrifying for them. I talked to him the whole time on and off though, and sang songs to him so he could hear my voice and get used to it. Then when the cover came off for good he was pretty relaxed and not so frightened.

They love high pitched, enthusiastic, excited, tones of voices so talk to him almost like you would a kid or a baby. Be very reassuring and encouraging. Say "it's ok buddy" or "it's ok Pineapple" a lot to him. This will make him feel safe and secure...and one day you'll hear him blurt it out! :ha: Henry says 'it's ok' all the time!

Don't try to overwhelm him with too much at once. Birds like things to go slowly, and they don't like sudden fast movements. If you take it slow, he will become an amazing pet for you. Cam had some excellent things to say and very good tips I agree with.

Of course he's your bird and you may handle him the way you want Greg, but getting an education about birds and the way they like to be treated will make it much easier, for both him and you. I know you love him and want him to be happy. Don't worry, he will be. Just give him time.

I was telling Henry today about Pineapple and how he was a cute little yellow birdie. Henry was so excited and he was looking all over the place. I think he thought Pineapple was coming over for a visit! It was so cute how he reacted when I said the name Pineapple. His head snapped right around and he looked at me as if to say "well where is he then?"!!!

My birds have been driving me crazy lately with alot of screaming lol. I try to give them alot of attention but they want more and more lol. Its amazing how much personality birds have. I will never forget a family friend's African Grey parrot that would actually carry out a conversation lol. He was a beautiful bird. I saw a Sun Conure at Petco a couple of years ago that needed to be adopted, if I had money I would have adopted him. He was very friendly and a beautiful bird

The Hollyberry Lady
07-05-2011, 06:25 PM
Yeah, most people have no idea how much personality birds have. It's unreal. I've had cats all my life and they can have enormous personalities but birds' are even larger!

At first when I brought Henry home, he was unresponsive and didn't talk or even chirp much. I was practically crying to my mom, that he would likely never talk and all the things I'd been trying to teach him would never be repeated. Boy was I so WRONG!

I just spent a lot of one on one time with Henry, and kept repeating things over and over again to him. I think he learned to say many things before he even revealed them to me. Oftentimes, he even repeats things I didn't know he was listening to...so I'm careful what I say around him.

He was extremely shy at first and wouldn't talk unless the T.V. was on, or music was playing, or I was out of the room altogether. I kept encouraging him though and now he talks whenever! Sometimes it's bone quiet and I'll walk by him, to water a plant or something, not even noticing him, and he'll bellow out real loudly and cheerfully, "HI"!!! It shocks you and makes you laugh all at the same time. He's just too adorable.

All day today he's been flying around saying "be a good boy, Henry"!!! It's just hilarious and everyday he picks somethings he wants to say a lot. I tell him stories and read to him too. He loves to sit on my shoulder while I read to him and show him the pictures.

Birds are awesome! :goteam:

Willow87
07-05-2011, 07:13 PM
My sister's bird was the same way. She didn't eat or even chirp. She would sit on her perch puffed up with a serious look on her face. Now I can tell her chirps and screams from the other birds. She even gets facial expressions that make me laugh, especially when she hears a strange noise, she gets this cute puzzled look. I really do love birds, more than dogs and cats lol. I mainly love fish, reptiles, and birds. I have a turtle named Scuba, he is a Western Painted turtle. He has a Weather Loach tank buddy.

The Hollyberry Lady
07-05-2011, 07:32 PM
Oh yeah Henry too, has facial expressions and if he hears a strange noise he makes a raspberry sound and his eyes are wide as saucers! It's totally hilarious. He even laughs too...my laugh. It's too funny when he does it though.

I can tell just what kind of mood he's in by looking at his face. When he's in a bad mood too, he'll look at me right sternly and says in a mad tone "be-shoosh"...which is his version of
"shut-up"! :ha:

He means it too and if you try to be cute with him and talk to him he'll jut his beak at you to warn you that you could get a bite! He usually never does bite though, unless he's extremely angry, which isn't too often. He's mostly super cheerful and happy.

Yes Henry screams and squawks too, but I scold him for it and he usually stops. If he doesn't, he goes for a time-out in his cage, where I close the door and the top for 10 minutes. He hates it though so he usually stops screaming and being demanding, and I open the cage again.

He's very jealous of my plants and gets mad if I fuss over them too long. Some days he's cool but recently he freaked out angrily and was bomb diving all over the living room and kicking his feet off my head! :ha: Boy was he pissed! I had to put the plant down and give him kisses to reassure him.

So you've been lurking and reading my novels, have you?! :ha:

I think Greg's away for a bit but he'll be back later I'm sure. Isn't that just the cutest name JaNan...Pineapple?! :D I love it.

I've still been telling Henry about him...he loved the word Pineapple as soon as he heard me say it. I tell him about my aunt's bird 'Willie' too.

The story Henry loves to hear though the most, is the story about how I went to the petstore and brought him home when he was little, and how he was so popular with all the other birds. He will sit absolutely captivated as I enthusiastically tell him the story and remind him about when he was a baby at the petstore. It's too cute as he sits on my finger, with his beak practically pressing against my lips, as I tell him about it. He loves when my mom sings to him too and he could sit and listen for hours to her many children's songs that she knows...of course his favorite is "there's a hole in my bucket...dear Henry, dear Henry"!!! :ha:

Yes, Greg's bird has gorgeous colorings, JaNan. He's just a total sweetie. I hope we can see lots of pics, but not now while he's scared. He needs time to adjust.

I didn't think to show him his picture yet JaNan but I know he's already wondering about who this 'Pineapple' character is and just when he's gonna show up! :ha:

I have shown him pics of Willie, my aunt's bird, and he immediately looks away and pretends he doesn't see him, but keeps peeking at him and then back at me. It's adorable. My aunt's bird is white, blue, yellow and green...and some colors in between! He's super pretty and has patches of colors all over him. He's a little bugger though!

Janan I hope you feel better soon. The heat nearly drained the life out of me today. There were some thunderstorms just east of where I live. I was really hoping for some rain. The only thing my bird knows how to do is imitate a telephone ringing and he always starts screaming when someone is on the phone. Its like he either has incredible hearing or he has a 6th sense lol.

Hope you feel better. Yes Pineapple does have some turquoise. Hekept coming up to me at the pet store. I spent along time just looking at him.

Well I tried to go to bed, but I couldn't fall asleep! :ha:

I'm going now though.

Yes Greg, now that you have Lemon, it's a whole different story! Pineapple won't be nearly as afraid as he would be alone because they'll have each other. You should definitely take them to your sister's place on account of the heat. ;)

G'night gang...for real this time! :ha:

Can't sleep? There's gotta be a number of channels where some speaker with so little energy (like one foot in the grave) is droning on in some sonorous monotone on some topic that would calm even the most wound up coffee-addict. Maybe even the financial section of the newspaper.

Good morning everyone. Sherry I saw your Explosive Amber pepper, its beautiful!:woohoonaner:

Too funny, Yug! I had pepper fever and couldn't get to sleep! :ha:

Thanks, Cam. That is one stunning type, isn't it? The leaves can get every bit as black as 'black pearl' but I like that the fruits are bright purple. How cool is that?! They turn red later but no colors in between. I intend on saving many seeds and sharing them. ;)

Hope you guys are having a great Wednesday so far.

I think I'm going to start a 12-step program for chronic pepper-a-holics! :ha:

Imagine though, being told I must abstain from pepper plants?!

I'd get the shakes and go through serious withdrawal! They'd have to put me in a straight jacket!

Glad you're excited, Cam. You're gonna have some beauties! :D

I check all of my peppers several times a day lol. I guess I'm a bit addicted lol. My Black Pearl pepper outside is doing well, though it dries out very fast lol

Good, you'll be the first to join my new group, Cam! :ha: Pretty sure Janan'll be there too! LOL!!!

Keep the water level topped up so nothing dries up, Cam. It's very important and can make or break your seedlings, plants, & cuttings. I just topped both my systems today.

Gosh I'm shocked about that strawberry plant. It's about to go absolutely crazy with new growth! It's going to be awesome!!! :woohoonaner:

I filled up the water in the tank yesterday, though only a little had evaporated. I let the water sit overnight so the chlorine evaporates and its room temperature. I'm amazed at the growth of your strawberry too

:waving: Hi guys! I started a new thread, so dig through your pictures and stick them in there for me, PLEASE! :ha:

I think leaf pictures can be so artistic. I just stuck some of mine in there that I took, but I am going to dig through some old shots and put them in there too. Maybe even my avatar picture - it's one of my favs!

It took me forever to dig that one up Janan, but I'll post another one soon. Great thread and awesome shots!

Janan did you see my strawberry plant? I was showing Cam pictures. The growth is amazing and it's about to explode! :goteam:

Cool Cam, that you're keeping things under control. I was just checking out my zinnia bud. Janan did you see the post about it being yellow? :(

I just hope yours turns out a prettier color.

Sherry, I did see your strawberry growth and your yellow Thumbelina. I think mine may be yellow also. I see some yellow on top, but it may be stamens showing, like you said earlier. I am not quite sure yet! :ha:

Wow great Greg! That's very significant. I always put a finger out and say "Step Up" and my birds will step on my finger. Birds don't do that unless there is some trust involved. I let my birds perch on my shoulder and my sister's bird loves to climb up on my head and peck at my hair. I will look up at her and then she will look down at me, its so funny

That could be a reason. Regardless its a very significant step with birds. Hopefully Pineapple will start doing that more frequently

Cam and Greg, did they or do they ever poop in your hair? I am amazed that little Henry is cage trained. I have always read that birds don't have control over that so it just happens.

I wanted to take one of my pretty little pullets and have a house chicken. But I have two house cats so it was just a thought.

Willow87
07-06-2011, 08:15 PM
I've had my bird poop on my shoulder before but my sister's bird usually flies off when she needs a restroom break lol. I checked the pods and no sign of a root yet. I hope things are alright. It worries me a little

The Hollyberry Lady

Although I'm sure Pineapple is happy you got Lemon for him, I think he jumped on your finger because he's used to the people at the petstore putting their hands in the cage everyday for feedings and cleanings. Henry was kind of used to fingers and hands when I brought him home too.

I say 'up' to Henry and he hops onto my finger, but most of the time I just put my finger near him without saying anything and he gets on. He likes to be on my shoulder when I'm tending to my plants and aero-gardens so he can keep an eye on me. :ha:

So are you planning to mate Pineapple & Lemon, Greg? What will you do with the babies?

So how's everyone's night going? :waving:

Actually Lemon was all my mom. She wanted him to have a girl. I will have to deal with the babies when the time comes I guess. Ive had two before and they never had babies. I had two cocateils Ricky and Lucy they never mated. I dont know why. I took them in the garden today they loved it so much.

The Hollyberry Lady
07-07-2011, 03:44 PM
Looking good, Cam! :08:

Not to worry, they'll be up...but make sure your sponges are moist and the water level is where it should be. Anyday now you'll see something. Even tonight maybe. Check every few hours. ;)

I'm gonna post in one more thread then I'm going to change both my systems' water and nutrients...plus shower the plants. Shouldn't be longer than 10-15 minutes. I enjoy doing it though and find it kinda fun. Plus you can see your plants responding to the fertilizer within two days time. :08:

It's been a week for me too, Cam. Hoping something else is germinating by now...

I have got the tastiest tea for Sherry whenever the mail strike ends, and for Cam I successfully separated some of the little prince pups. :)

My family went to Florida without me last week, and when they got back they started rearranging everything in the backyard - I went outside to see all my plants in the shade!

If anyone wants an Ice cream banana (i know Cam wants one), I'm going to attempt to break up my mat... there's six all packed into a spot meant for one. :08:

Willow87
07-07-2011, 05:56 PM
I'm so glad the LIttle Prince produced pups for you. The last pup that lived is now deceased lol. They did so wonderful the first year I got them and then the subsequent years they were weaker and weaker. Maybe the shade is best for your plants with all of this heat LOL. I have some dragon fruit you can take since I have too much of it. I don't want to bring in several huge DF vines because I dont have room.

The Hollyberry Lady
07-07-2011, 06:20 PM
Gotta go for a bit but the mail strike is over, Zac! They're prioritizing the mail right now though so I'm giving them a couple weeks to get things back to normal. I still haven't got AmberNicole's seeds!

So I hope you guys have a good night, but I should be back later. All the time I can spare for now. ;)

Hope you're enjoying Pineapple and Lemon...and your new aero-garden, Greg!!! :D

Thanks for thinking of me Zac, with the tea. We'll chat about sending stuff soon.

Yes, Cam the strawberry plant is getting huge, as you can see. I just added new nutes tonight too, so it's really gonna take off over the next several days. :goteam:

I'll leave you guys with this shot I took earlier...

How's everyone's Friday going so far?

G'night Cam. Hoping tomorrow brings sprouts for you. I have a feeling it might. ;)

Where's Tom these days? I made a few wisecracks about him getting an A-G and he hasn't been back since! I hope everything's cool.

I was about to have some strawberry yogurt with bananas in it, and check out my A-G for new developments. Well, It's 11 now, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow. My systems turn off at 11pm.

So who's stil around? :waving:

: )

Jananas Bananas
07-08-2011, 10:10 PM
No you weren't! :ha: Like I said I usually don't watch a lot but this one was about a woman that had been married 14 times! She always married soldiers then drained there bank accounts. She had 9 kids by 9 different men. And then a preview of the Diane Sawyer special this Sunday about JayCee Dugard. I have the DVR set to record that one. I'll be watching that one too.

I am so impressed with your speedy strawberries! It's like time lapse photography! :)

I really love my petunias. I only left one plant in the pod to grow and ith has draped down the edge of the AG and the blossoms point up to the lights. So pretty!

The Hollyberry Lady
07-08-2011, 10:19 PM
I watch 48-hour mystery a lot, but sometimes the stories bother me and I have to take a break from watching. So horrible the things people do. :(

Your petunias are so beautiful and I love how unique they turned out to be. Seems like they bloomed in no time flat.

I thought maybe I was taking too many pictures of my strawberry plant but that thing shocks me everyday! In fact, I was looking at it earlier, real closely, and it looks like that crown is developing other plants at the base! It looks to me like if I separated them, they'd grow into new plants!

I'm just gonna leave everything alone for now and see what happens by I bet it throws up berry buds in no time! Oh I can't wait Janan! :goteam:

: )

Jananas Bananas
07-08-2011, 10:27 PM
Be sure and save seeds for THAT one. I am anxious to hear how they taste too! You need to stick a picture of it every now and then in the strawberry thread too! I think it has been a while since you posted there! Some people may view that one and not the AG thread. I used to read every single post, but I don't anymore.

No seeds yet eh? I know you will tell me as soon as you get them, but I guess I got spoiled by the package at Christmas! :)

The Hollyberry Lady
07-08-2011, 10:44 PM
Nope, nothing yet. They're prioritizing the mail so only bills are showing up! :ha: They're on time with no delays!

I will surely save seeds from the Alpine, Janan. I grew them years ago directly in the garden and they had an intense and extremely rich strawberry flavor. Oh I can't wait to see them again.

Ok I'll post a shot of my beauty in the strawberry thread...

Hey, I have to take some pictures of the pepper plants. Some of them are starting to flower. Do you think I should replant them from the starter cubes :P
