Is it the same plant but with 3 different flowers?

The Hollyberry Lady
06-06-2011, 09:56 PM
Nope, it's three totally different pepper plants in one pot. All three have different shaped and colored fruits. Neat, eh? I really like the dark purple ones. :D

Hi Gang! My internet keeps crashing so I can't post tonight - but I am trying to get this out to say hey!

I like the purple fruit one also, that is on the variegated one right? I think that must be half JigSaw and half Black Pearl. Not sure on the other two.

Sherry, those that I posted in the AG thread and the Pepper thread are darned mystery peppers too. I had two of them tagged as Marble and I removed the seeds from the fruit!!!!! As you can see none of them have the purple blossoms. The purple outlined one just seeing the blossoms I would say JigSaw but no variegation what so ever on any of the leaves. Anyway, I just wanted you to know that.

Well, gang it took me two hours to get an email sent off tonight, so I am going to say Bye in this post also. It just gives me such a headache when things don't work like they are supposed to. :03:

No problem JaNan...I'm tired and might hit the hay "early". I was pm-ing a bit with Zac but he's gone to bed too. Mondays make people tired early. :ha:

I was about to have my favorite snack though first...strawberry yogurt with cut up pieces of bananas in it. ;)

Janan, thanks for dropping by. I hope your internet is better tomorrow.

Sherry, you seem to be much more active tonight. Is the finger getting less painful?

The Hollyberry Lady
06-06-2011, 10:27 PM
It's on and off, Tom. I have soreness from all the constant squeezing. I hate those painkillers though and feel like I can't function. It leaks every hour or so and I have to squeeze it. I dread doing it but know it must be done. Plus I'm on 500 mg of antibiotic every 6 hours, round the clock. I really can't wait to be healed of this.

The finger itself does look a lot better though, and the swelling has gone down 95 percent! I still can't use it though because it's too sore still. Have you ever had a finger infection, Tom?

I know it's important to finish the anti-biotic because it could come back!

Anyway, you're up late Tom. Don't let me keep you up with my whining about this blasted finger. :ha:

Right now I just have a gimpy arm. I think I tore a ligament next to the shoulder blade. If I even walk for a bit or do any work with it it kind of hurts a lot. Today it wasn't so bad though. I think it might be on the mend. It has been really painful for about a month now.

The Hollyberry Lady
06-06-2011, 11:02 PM
Ouch Tom...sounds like you could use some of these zombie pills! :ha:

Sometimes I sleep the wrong way and my neck gets kinked and I feel the way you described, for the entire day. I hate it when it happens. I move a lot and toss around when I sleep so it's easy it to happen.

Sure hope you feel better but you should take something if it's bad. Glad to hear you're on the mend. I think I am too...slowly but surely. I dread tomorrow morning though because my finger fills up overnight. Maybe tomorrow will be a lot less...hoping.

So I had my yogurt and bananas and now I think I might hit the sack. It's the witching hour here (midnight).

Talk soon though. Have a good sleep and a great day at work tomorrow, Tom. :waving:

I pulled a muscle in my neck a few years ago... it's just now getting better to where I can move my head all the way around and I imagine it's only healed because I'm still young.

Someone needs to hurry up and make some nanobots that heal anything and everything! :08:

I hope everyone had a good day. I noticed my banana plant outside got sun burned on the older leaves. The newer ones weren't too bad though. There was a black spot where probably some water was. I harvested my first strawberry of the season. It was nice and red.
I also went to the library where they were doing a lecture on eco friendly lawn care.

06-07-2011, 10:50 PM
Well it's finally stopped leaking and it's not so sore today!!! :D I can tell I'm getting better and won't be needing anymore of the zombie pills! Extra strength tylenol can handle it from here. :ha: So glad to nearly be done with this whole ordeal. :goteam:

Hope you guys saw the pics of little Henry in the pet thread, taking a bath...

So how was the strawberry, Tom? Learn anything cool at the lecture?

It's nearly the witching hour. Time for yogurt...

How is the finger today? I bet it feels much much better now that it is on the mend. Did you ever put any aloe on it?

The Hollyberry Lady
06-08-2011, 04:37 PM
Well just when I thought it was over Tom, more crap came out this morning! :( It's actually kinda sore again because of the squeezing. I haven't used Aloe yet, but I have two kinds of polysporin...one that takes the sting out and it's helping.

I've got four more days left of the antibiotic and I'll be finished. I can't wait to be done with it all. It seems like all I do is clean the wound and take pills.

So how's everyone's day going so far? I'm deciding on what to make for dinner. Anything but chicken! :ha: Might just make a homemade sub with the works on it...including hot banana peppers and olives. I got some roast beef, cajun chicken, and black forest ham to put on it.

It's hot and super humid here today. We're talking 102°F!!! That's the humidex reading! I'm staying cool inside.

Sorry to hear about the relapse.

It is supposed to be hot here tomorrow 100F. Today I went to toys r us and bought a pool for the kids 12' by 30". I bought one last year but it had a hole in it so I couldn't use it. I expect tomorrow I'll come home from work and get in the pool for an hour or so.

I am going to hate my water bill next quarter. 1700 gallons of water is going to cost me.

I wish I had the fixing you have. You should definitely make that sub. I want pictures so I can eat it vicariously through you.

Its 2:30 am and its still 80F outside. I dont think the temperature will get much lower than that tonight. It should get to 100F tomorrow here too! Its going to be a hot one!

The Hollyberry Lady
06-09-2011, 04:31 PM
Hi Alex!

It sounds like you guys are real hot there too. It's a bit cooler here today, but still a little muggy. Hope everyone's staying cool. ;)

So yeah, about this damn finger...

It wasn't really a relapse Tom...it just hasn't healed quite yet and I guess it's like the old saying goes, "it gets worse before it gets better".

This morning some of the dead skin started to come away, exposing this really red and raw looking flesh underneath! Of course I rinsed it with more peroxide and applied lots of polysporin. I called the doctor and he said this is normal, and that I am healing. There's no more fluid since the dead skin came off, and the doc said there shouldn't be anymore. No more squeezing...yay!!!

My own family doctor is away on vacation, but will be back soon. He always wants me to come see him later if I go to any outside doctors and they prescribe meds, so he can make sure things are cool. He's been my doc since I was four, and he's more like a father figure to me than a doctor. He's Chinese and he always has a crockpot of Chinese soup cooking in his back room so that when you're there for a visit, you feel like you're at a restaurant! He won't take no for an answer either, when he offers you a delicious bowl of it. I can't count the times I've sat in his office, eating his different homemade soups. I've even wished at times that I was unwell, so I'd have an excuse to go in and see him. :ha: He's so full of wisdom and great stories and he'll even sit after hours and chat up a storm. He's just the best.

Sorry Tom, no pics of the sub, but if I make another I'll be sure to snap a shot. I gotta tell ya though...it was delicious! I had tomatoes, onions, thin slices of sweet red pepper and cucumber on it too...on a really long cheesey sub bun. It was stacked so high that I put the other half in the fridge and had it for today's lunch. What can I say but...yummy!

So how was the pool, Tom? I am going swimming at my mom's in a week or so when the pool will be ready for swimming. I'm looking forward to it. Swimming is one of my most favorite things, ever since I was a kid. I just love it and I'm like a fish. I can swim super well. I was a lifeguard when I was in my early twenties.

Ok so I've babbled enough, and don't even know if anyone's around? Hope you guys are having a good Thursday. Gotta go put peroxide on my finger, but be back in a few...

To be honest, I've been the sh*ts, Cam! :ha: I'm hoping that will change though soon.

Yes, I love Canna's as well. I have two dwarf kinds and a red stripey one.

We've been having a real heatwave here...sticky & muggy as hell.:(

One of my girlfriends might pop over later briefly. I'm definitely hiding the camera if she does. She might ask to borrow it again! She's also one of these people who likes to take shots of a person when they're not presentable, so you have to turn away from the camera, and all you see is the back of your head in the pic! She did it to me just the other night. I loaded it and posted it in the 'post and image of yourself' thread just because I posted another one before and thought it was funny. I've known her since childhood and there's a whole slew of pictures of me taken by her throughout the years, that show nothing but the back of my head as I turned away. I likely have 15 of them in total. I should make an album.

Well Cam, I guess you didn't have time to read the novels I wrote! :ha: I'll try to keep this short. Just be glad we're not on the phone or you might not be able to get a word in edgewise!

Still having internet issues. It is very intermittent, and I am losing my patience of which I don't have that much anyway!

Agreed Cameron - your cannas are gorgeous!

Sherry have you heard anything on your other camera yet? You need to take a bunch of pictures and load them, so you can dangle some in front of us! I hate it when you don't have a camera.

Tom you know how insistent kids are! Sounds like they had fun!

I sure hope I can load this, but I need to try before it goes off line again!

Hi, JaNan!

Nope, I haven't received the giftcard yet. They said 4 - 6 weeks and I think it's only been 3 so far. Thank goodness I bought a new camera in the meantime. You like the pics from my Sony better, JaNan? This one actually has more megapixels but there's something about my Sony I love and I can't wait to get another one when the girtcard shows up.

I'll try to take more shots but the finger that's hurt is the finger I snap pics with so it's been a bit awkward but they haven't been too bad I hope. I'm noticing tonight that new skin is forming so I really think I'm truly on the mend.

Yeah Cam, I have a finger infection, so that's all I meant. Boy have I learned a lot from it though. I am never sticking my fingers into outside soil again, unfortunately. This is just too awful to risk ever happening again.

Dangle some pictures, eh JaNan? This thing is so gorgoeus right now, I can't take enough shots...

That is one BEAUTIFUL pepper plant! I'm keeping my finger crossed that my last seed will grow. I think that thing could easily win a prize for beauty.

I got my new pump in the mail, so I got my $6 AG up and running this afternoon! I put more of the seeds you sent me in the pods. :woohoonaner: I really love these things. I will get some new pictures in the morning to load in the AG thread.

Oh and Tom...

That's so great that you and the kids were able to enjoy the new pool. Sounds like such fun. I love playing fun games with kids in pools. I have rings that sink to the bottom and they're all different colors and it's fun to see who can get the most. I like snorkels and floating airbeds, and all the other stuff that goes along with going to the beach or a pool. I'm really into beach volleyball too and play any chance I get.

So I bet the kids are thrilled and were anxiously waiting for it to finally be filled up, so they could go in. I like those backyard pools as well that you can sit in and soak, just to cool down.

Yup Cam, we've been super hot the past few days...like 102°F!!! Uncharacteristic for us, but these days we only have two seasons anymore...winter and summer. :ha:

The Hollyberry Lady

JaNan, I told her it was a one time shot deal! :ha: She said she was getting a new one but I'm not sure if she did or not yet. She likes my cameras and says they take better shots than hers. I keep telling her it's because I put out more money and I don't buy the cheap ones. She doesn't seem to take the hint though.

Not to worry...I will not be camera-less again!

I think it's so pretty too, JaNan. It's hard to believe it's real, but it is. I think that aero-garden really brings out the beauty in pepper plants. The leaves actually have a bluish hue to them!

I can easily send you a ton of fresh seeds for 'little blue' again JaNan, so please let me know if you have success with the one seed you have left.

I am AMAZED that you are having that kind of heat! That is Texas summer weather! I promise you I did not send it that way because we still have it! We skipped Spring too - went straight to Summer. We started having 90 degree days the second week in February.

I will let you know Sherry - that is one of the things I like about it so much is that dark navy blue shiny leaf!

How is the little Marble doing? Did any of those many blossoms set fruit?

WOW I can't believe I have stayed connected for over an hour! Better shut up or I will jinx it!!! :ha:

The Hollyberry Lady
06-09-2011, 09:56 PM
I'd gladly give it back, Greg! :ha:

We're all having a tough time with it because we had no chance to ease into this kind of heat. Air conditioning is a requirement, not a luxury. Old people and kids have a tough time with this heat.

Yeah, these are July temps for us. We get heavy humidity here and it can be unbearably sticky, lingering for days. We hopped right into summer with no spring at all...except for a few days.

The marble plant is a stunningly gorgeous plant that is now going into it's second growth spurt. It truly has me stumped though, because it has never produced many fruits...excect for a few. There's nothing at all wrong with the plant and for the life of me I struggle to understand it. I know it's something about the a-g though because this has never happened to me in all my years of growing potted peppers. The foliage is simply gorgeous though and some of the top new growth is now beginning to turn bluish like the little blue.

Here's a fruit on it tonight at the bottom of the plant that's turning orange...

Well, it's the witching hour and I just got home. I went to the 24 hour grocery strore/nursery...but I didn't buy any plants! :(

I wanted to so bad and would have, accept that I'm not doing any outdoor gardening this year so I'd have to keep them indoors. Nursery plants always bring gnats with them though and I don't want them in here. Besides I've got lots of flowers this year that I grew from seed, and they're all blooming for me. Now that I'm better, I'll get some shots tomorrow. I have some petunias that started blooming for me a few days ago and a purple celosia that even has purple leaves. I transplanted it into a purple pot yesterday! I have some others too, not quite ready yet. The petunias smell amazing. They release their fragrance at night.

Still around, Tom? JaNan? Time for some yogurt...

What were you almost tempted with?

Hey Sherry have you ever grown these?

chinese five color pepper - Google Search (http://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1AVSX_enUS387US387&q=chinese+five+color+pepper&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi&biw=1600&bih=799)

They look like Christmas lights!

My petunias are bi-colored. They're light purple with a darker purple in the center! They smell amazing and I've been whiffing them all evening before I went out and since I've returned. They're so sweet smelling. Did you know that hummers love petunias?!

I was tempted by some of the bi-colored pelargoniums and the colorful ornamental grasses...as well as some hibiscus types too. Oh and there was this mixed pot that had all these different kinds of flowers and pretty foliage plants that I would have loved to buy. It was 20 bucks but it was stunning and if I was doing outdoor gardening I'd have bought it in a new york minute!

So how do you like the Natural Health Food Remedy thread? That information is from an amazing book I have called Food Remedies. It's just the best and worth sharing, so I hope you like it. Tomorrow I'm gonna post about bananas!!!

I loved the story you included in the reflections thread, JaNan. That had me bawling in no time. I'm sappy like that and it doesn't take much to get me started, emotionally. That really was so beautiful though and I'm glad it's part of our collection. Hope you liked my two stories also but yours was super special. ;)

Wanna know what I got at the grocery store? Hope Trina's making out ok. Haven't heard from her in a bit but I saw she was logged on a couple times. She's likely just killer busy. Moving is a lot of work.

Did you see the post about mushrooms today? I couldn't wait to do it because I love them so much. How cool that they're actually really good for us. Glad you like the thread, JaNan. I do too and look forward to it growing with more foods and information.

How about the zodiac thread? It's kind of fun and eventually I'll include everyone's signs, including their Chinese sign too. It's entertaining but with some undeniable truth to it also. ;)

I can't wait to post about bananas in the morning, in the food thread. If I had the energy, I'd post it now but too tired. It's pretty cool stuff though.

So I'm all done with the antibiotics!!! :08:

I took my last dose at 11 pm tonight! My finger looks great too, compared to how it did. It's healing super quickly now from the fast-healing polysporin. No more sting or anything. I'm so glad I kept it clean with the peroxide and regularily applied ointments. I still clean it continually throughout the day and night as well, to make sure it heals with no scar.

I grew my nails really super long and I want to paint them, but with this finger the way it was, I wasn't inspired. Now I am. Yippppeeeeee....I'm all better! :goteam:

Yes Tom, I just might do that. I can even bring my own favorite nail polish and they'll use it! On occasion I've gone to get them done but I usually just do it myself. I have this nice shimmery purple color that's one of my favorites, so I might pick that one. I did my toes last night with it. Wow, my nails grew long in just a short time. Kinda like my hair...I have to have it trimmed every couple months. I don't want it any longer than it is now. My one girlfriend thinks I should grow it to my feet! :ha:

Thanks Janan. I feel much better now, I sometimes wake up with a sore throat some mornings. Usually I dont water my Ditch lilies but this year I did. The blooms really surprised me because its never had so many. I found out from a gardening buddy that the variety that I have is an heirloom daylily. I started with a couple of plants from a friend (she passed away from cancer a few years ago) Hers never bloomed because they were in full shade. Now I'm going to have to separate them this fall because the clump is taking over my flowerbed. The flower stems are 39"40" tall, almost taller than my canna blooms.

I've been up for an hour actually, but I've been showering a few more plants. Yes, I am really going to miss these windows, Cam. :( They're a gardener's dream, is what they are...and I can practically grow just about anything in here, with such amazing light.

I have three windows in my living room, two if which face south, and then a third that faces east. One of the three windows is a large picture window and and the sills are like shelves. I have a window in my kitchen and my bathroom....as well as a large bedroom window too. There's 15 plants in my bedroom window, alone!

Good Morning Sherry,
Thanks for the comments. How are you this morning? I hope your new place has plenty of windows. At my old house it had several east facing windows that my plants would enjoy, and in my room there was a huge bay window that had a seating area. I miss that house lol. Unfortunately my bedroom faces the north so I have limited light, though I do have a floor lamp that I used during winter. I miss having plants in my bedroom

The Hollyberry Lady
06-15-2011, 12:45 PM
Oh I can see why you miss your old house with all those great windows, Cam. I will find a way to have just as many plants at my new place too, regardless of windows, because I've got lots of supplemental lighting. Plus I'll have a huge balcony or patio! :D

I doubt I'll have a bathroom window in my new place because it's rare for an apartment, but I'm gonna buy another aero-garden for my bathroom so I can continue to enjoy flowers there. I've had flowers in my bathroom window for so long that I can't give them up! :ha:

So yeah, I was working on another food for the food remedy thread, and I got it done early this morning but had to find a good picture from the internet for the post. I found one and just released the post a few minutes ago. It's about basil. I really like that thread, and hope to cover all the healthful foods eventually.

So I'm around on and off, cleaning my apartment and packing up more stuff. I'm cleaning things before I pack them...ornaments and china dishes, etc. It's a lot of work but I don't want to bring boxes of dusty things to my new place. I'll be shaking the dust off my feet when I leave here, and not looking back. You wouldn't believe the goings-ons around here lately, but it's too negative to get into. Predictible anyway, and I'm not allowing it to affect me even one bit. ;) When no one reacts, their game is no fun and boring, so this is how I handle it.

So it's sunny here today but not super hot or muggy, thankfully. I think I might have a petunia that's gonna be pink or some color, in the pot with the purple ones. I could have sworn I sowed all purple ones, but these look like they'll bloom pink! Kinda cool because I was wishing I'd planted more. Waiting for them to open.

Hope your day is going well, everyone.

I definitely do miss windows but they can be a blessing and curse. The few south windows that I have let in so much heat during summer. I'm so glad you will have alot of room at your new place, you will probably inspire others to garden as well. When I lived in an apartment for a while, my patio looked like a jungle. I would have random people ask me about my plants and what I used to fertilize them because they were so lush.
Unfortunately I lost practically all of them in a freak hailstorm (this was years ago) I love basil, especially sprinkled on top of spaghetti.
I need to save up for one of those aerogardens lol. That way I could have plants in my room again lol. I just love your purple petunias. I want flowering plants in my house LOL.

The banana in the picture is an SDC.I think I was told the pups have to be a foot tall or so before you can seperate them. When it is I am going to give one to my coworker. He likes growing fruits and vegetables too. He is stuck in an apartment, but the banana plant should be a good container plant for him. It probaby won't take too much space.

I know that's right Sherry (your apartment growing!). Just finished eating pizza for supper with a humongous strawberry for dessert. I took pictures to post in the dinner and strawberry thread. I haven't loaded them onto my computer yet.

How's everyone doing? It's hot, hot, hot here. Somebody told me that bananas didn't grow if it's over 90 degrees, so I guess I won't see anything out of mine for a while. 104 today and it may be more when the remainder of the reports come in.

I have to feed the animal children here soon and water the outside plants, but want to let my supper settle a little bit first!

Yeah, I posted a few pictures this afternoon. Have a few more to post, later.

I ate ONE for dessert tonight Tom! They are sweet, sweet, SWEET!

You had asked about separating pups on your SDC in the Pup thread. I think a foot is a stretch. From experience, I have separated them at just a couple of inches tall and they have done just fine. They have a tendency to throw a lot of pups out and I personally think it saps the Mother of strength so I usually only leave two at the most on the Mom. That's just my opinion and my experience and I am sure there will be a lot that disagree. :)

We don't even have a chance of rain here, Cam. The forecast is identicle from day to day - 103 days 79 - 80 + nights. I really need to move someplace tropical again. (somewhere that isn't expensive!!!) :ha:

The Hollyberry Lady
06-15-2011, 09:42 PM
I think JaNan's right. ;)

Sometimes too, the pups don't just zap the mother of strength...they kill her altogether!!!

This happened with my original SDC plant, and the plant I have now is a big pup that overtook the mother.

I was emailing with Markku a little while ago and he told me the pups don't even have to have roots to remove them and they'll still be ok. He said if I want the mother to continue to thrive and perhaps flower, I should remove the pups that develop.

Very, very interesting indeed. :goteam:

Alright JaNan, I want to see the dinner that went with those strawberries!!! :ha: Damn those look too good! :08: I want one.

So who's winning, Tom? Hockey is a huge sport here in Canada and if you don't like it, it's like you're from outer space or something. I like live games as opposed to watching it on T.V. ;)

So I'm around and bored! Everything is done. I even changed my a-g water tonight and added nutrients. I also had to do some pepper plant pruning so the other plants in the system that are just getting started can have a chance to build themselves. Things are looking fantastic. :0517:

Ok, so who's still around? :waving:

Yes, I suspect it's going to be a long night for me too...I'm not tired at all.

I was going to post a couple shots in the dinner thread later of my supper and dessert...if JaNan ever gets around to posting hers first! :ha:

Not sure what to do with myself but I'm working on some information for Pisces for the Zodiac thread.

Any requests for the food remedy thread? I wasn't sure which one to pick next.

Yeah that's kind of mean about the guy not taking the chocolates but there's also 2 sides to every story and who knows...maybe she's a psycho! :ha: At least someone enjoyed them. It would have been more mean to throw them in the trash.

Too funny about shaving your legs. I gotta do mine tomorrow morning. ;)

Ok then, so does this mean they'll be no pizza shots in the dinner thread and I should just go ahead and post mine? I had a yummy supper tonight. :goteam:

Hi Sherry I'm just trying to stay cool today. How are you?

The Hollyberry Lady
06-16-2011, 03:19 PM
Hi, Cam. I'm kinda feeling like the weather...gloomy and depressed. :( It's raining here. Not really super down, but I miss my mom being next door. We talk a lot on the phone but it's just not the same. I hate it.

I was trying to think of what to make for dinner but I think I'll just have leftover steak and onions with something or other. Not feeling real hungry just yet. I released some more information I typed out for the Zodiac thread. It's so much fun finding out peoples' signs and describing them. Do you know what your Chinese sign is Cam? I think you're a Cancer though, right?

So JaNan, are you around too? I haven't taken any new shots today and now it's all dark looking in here.

Oh, I did collect some seeds from the marble and little blue plant today...and the table tomato plant as well. Lots for sharing.

I'm sorry that you are feeling depressed, i'm feeling the same way but the heat is making me feel worse. I wish it would rain here. Hopefully you will be near her soon Sherry. I had a hamburger for dinner lol. I'am a Cancer and my Chinese Zodiac sign is the Hare. I think I'm the luckiest of all the signs LOL. My sister is a dragon, my mom is the rat and i think my brother is the ox which really explains alot. Its scary how both zodiac signs describe me accurately lol.

I found out it's Patty's sign as well. I'll be posting information about Cancer later too that you haven't seen.

Thanks, Greg! ;) I'm feeling better now. We all have our days, I guess. I was just missing my mom earlier and us being neighbors like we were. We will be together again though, I know.

So yeah, Henry is a cutie and I'm glad it comes through even in pictures. Nice that you guys love him so much too. I'm looking forward to you getting one, Greg. Don't rush though...it takes time to find the right one for you. You can teach him all kinds of words and phrases and even songs. They whistle tunes amazingly also!

Henry knows how to make a raspberry sound too and if you say something he thinks is funny he'll spontaneously make the sound at you like he knows you're just being silly. :ha: It's hysterical when he does it. He "caws" like a crow as well and it's insanely cute. My aunt's budgie "Willie" barks like thier dog! Gosh I love birds.

One of the funniest things Henry does is in the morning when I take the sheet cover off his cage and he blurts out really loudly and really enthusiastically "HI"!!! It's just the way he cheerfully bellows it out and how he looks. I love it. What a special little fella he is.

Some of the signs of your family Cam, I've already done, but more are coming soon. I'm sure enjoying that thread and finding out people's signs. It's so fun.

How beautiful, Cam! :goteam:

I think that's 'Lemon Queen' but I'm not totally sure. How tall is it and is there just one flower on each plant? Look through my seeds and tell me which ones I sent. I know I sent the 'fashion mix' but I can't remember what else...

I am totally impressed with how fast you got those up and growing, and now blooming! The leaves look really super healthy and beautiful. Most people's sunflower leaves are ratty and torn looking...yours are gorgeous!

Take note Cam, of what grows super well around your house and then focus on growing lots of those particular plants there in the future. Sunflowers are obviously a real success story for you. That thing looks perfect! How utterly cheerful and uplifting, just to look at it. Thanks for showing us. I love it. :D

Good morning Sherry, I just got back from window shopping at the mall. I think it is the Lemon Queen one because its only 2 feet tall and has one bloom on it. I love it and I can't wait to collect seeds from it. I want to plant some on my side yard which is hot all the time and gets full sun most of the day. I will definitely look for more sunflowers next year to plant. I want a flowerbed with just those in it. I've been feeding them with Miracle Grow and foliar feeding once a week with Hasta Gro. Its in an exposed windy area so I'm very surprised the leaves aren't tattered lol. I wish I had more so I could bring cut flowers inside. But Sunflowers are definitely going in my garden again.
I hope you slept well.

The Hollyberry Lady
06-18-2011, 11:10 AM
LoL, Yug! :ha: With a user title like that, you walked right into it! ;)

I slept ok I guess Cam, but I woke up in the middle of the night and posted a bit. I'm feeling better rested now.

I'm re-thinking the Lemon Queen though because they're usually much darker in the center, and they look different than that one. It was the middle of the night and I think I was groggy-eyed when I guessed 'lemon queen'! :ha:

It could be a type from the beautiful fashion mix I sent but I'm thinking, now that you've told me it's 2 feet tall, that it's a "Sun Spot"!!! Lemon queen is multi-branched and has more than one flower on each plant and blooms continually over the season, but yours only has one bloom. I really think it's a "Sun Spot" sunflower, based on the description and look of
it.

It's just gorgeous and you should plant more of the sunflower seeds I sent, right now! They grow quickly and lots of people enjoy late summer and even fall sunflower blooms. They obviously love it there so take full advantage and show them off all over your yard. :D They are bright and cheerful and can be seen from far distances too. :08:

I'm gonna post in a few threads...

'm glad to hear you got some good rest. I'm feeling kind of depressed today lol.
I think you may be right about it being Sunspot, though this flower is small, maybe 4 inches across lol. I'm going to look for more seeds next year to plant along the sunniest side of my house. I especially want the taller ones. I dont have anymore of the sunflower seeds that you sent me, So I will have to go looking some Garden Centers next year. I hope you are having a great day

A woman, while at the funeral of her own mother, met a guy whom she did not know. She thought this guy was amazing. Answer:

She was hoping the guy would appear at the funeral again. If you answered this correctly, you think like a psychopath. This was a test by an American Psychologist used to determine if one has the same mentality as a killer. Many arrested serial killers took part in the test and answered the question correctly. If you didn't answer the question correctly, good for you.

Thanks Sherry I really do love sunflowers. I have a few more that look like they are about to bloom. How is everyone today? Unfortunately the Castor beans didnt make it. I think next time I'm just going to try my luck and plant them in the ground so I dont have to transplant them. Or use sterile soil LOL

Sucks about the castor bean Cam...I know how excited you were about growing them. :(

So it's rainy and overcast here today. Here are a couple shots I took yesterday of a blooming shrub and Blake's "Chilly" chili plant...

Hope everyone's having a great Wednesday, so far. Henry is chirping happily, playing around in his bird pool. He now even says 'go get in your bird pool' because he's been hearing me say it so much. :ha:

He used to take a couple months before he'd repeat something new, but now he's become such an expert mimic that he'll come out with new things sometimes within a couple days if I say them enough, but usually within a week or two, I can get him to say whatever I'm teaching him. He's as smart as a whip.

So I'm not sure what's on the agenda for today just yet, but whatever it is, it'll be inside. Too miserable outside to go anywhere. I think it's going to rain all day and night.

I gotta shower and fertilize a few plants this morning...one of which is my siam ruby with two pups. It's doing well but it needs regular & consistent showers to keep the mites away.

Chat soon...

Sherry that shrub is beautiful! Is that Spirea 'Anthony Waterer'? I have Bridals wreath spirea. We got another round of storms here last night. Its so nice to see rain again though we did have some severe weather. Next week its going to be hot and dry unfortunately. I wish my birds could talk lol. I bet Henry looks so cute in his birdie pool.

I'm not exactly sure what it is but it's gorgeous!

Great, you got a little rain, Cam! You sure need it. I think it's supposed to rain for the next three days here.

Yeah, Henry is just too cute in that bird bath. He loves it and gets right in it, first thing in the morning. I was enjoying watching him today, with a cup of green tea. What a little cutie pie he is.

So I'm still trying to get some shots loaded that I took this morning...

Ok Sherry. I've been giving them a weak solution of fertilizer both soil drenching and foliar feeding.

The Hollyberry Lady

They should surely pick up for you but keep them in good sunlight, while keeping the roots fairly cool. Check to be certain that no pests are bothering them either. ;)

Willow87
06-22-2011, 03:10 PM
I still have them in small black pots and they are receiving quite a bit of sun but its been hot too. I wonder if that's why they are taking so long to grow.

The Hollyberry Lady
06-22-2011, 03:16 PM
Yes, if they're over-heated, this would definitely cause distress and stagnate the growth.

Maybe put them in bigger pots? Show me a picture later. A picture says a thousand words. ;)

: )

Willow87
06-22-2011, 04:11 PM
Ok I wonder if I should grow them indoors in a sunny window. The pots are a pint I think. The ones that small annuals are in but the roots havent filled up the pot yet

The Hollyberry Lady
06-22-2011, 04:54 PM
Pepper plants can handle being a little root-bound so it shouldn't be a big deal even if they were in too small a pot. Most of mine are in 4" - 6" pots!

Just finished typing out some info about wine for the health food remedy thread...it's actually good for you...so feel free to get bombed! :ha:

But no posting when you're three sheets to the wind! :ha:

So are you ever gonna post in the zodiac thread...Cam and JaNan? Can't remember if Zac did already but I know Greg did. ;)

I've completed all the requests now so you can pick a sign I haven't done yet.

So I showered a bunch of plants today, and things are looking amazing. I now have a "Blue Princess" hybrid female holly shrub indoors again, with a grafted male "Blue Prince" branch. It's a two-in-one because it looks like one shrub but it has both female and male. I got it from my garden.

Let's just say that one by one my plants and shrubs have been disappearing around here and I knew my hollies and beautyberry shrubs were next, so I beat them to it one early morning at 5:30 am. :ha: Nothing but ugly bare holes remain.

It's very unfortunate that the tenants and myself all have to miss out because of one evil and jealous person, but as the saying goes, "one bad apple spoils the whole barrel".

At least I got what was mine before a thief did. ;)

Willow87

I brought all of my peppers inside. The Cayenne peppers are doing the best but I went ahead and brought in those and the Jerusalem cherries which have several leaves now. I've heard about wine being healthy, too bad I don't have money right now to get some lol.
I guess I need to check out the zodiac thread. I love holly Shrubs but mainly the Yaupon hollies that have berries on bare branches. Its unfortunate that you had to experience that with the crazy woman. I'm just glad that you dug up your shrubs to take them with you. I've been keeping a close eye on my potted plants since I dont have a fence. Its sad but people will steal just for the heck of it. I hope you had a good day, it was cooler today though humid.

I FINALLY got some rain today Cam!!!! First since October! Other parts of the country are flooding badly, and we are on fire. My ground has cracks in it nearly a foot wide. They have banned selling fireworks for the fourth in my county and several others and anyone caught shooting them off will be taken to jail. They won't even have any displays this year that the firefighters put on. Are you going to get to have fireworks there?

Tonight we are having Chef's Salad. Nice an COOL! :ha:

Willow87
06-22-2011, 07:34 PM
I'm so glad you got some rain. I can't believe its been since October since you last saw rain. We have been lucky here to not be in too serious of a drought, in fact parts of Collin county northward aren't under any drought conditions which is strange because here we have rainfall deficits. I think Plano is still having fireworks because there is a large sign across the field were they have the firework show. I've heard about the burn ban further south. Even with all of the rain here, there are still large cracks in my yard. I've never had Chef's Salad before but it sounds good

Jananas Bananas

Hi Sherry, your holly is so beautiful. Hopefully it will recover nicely. I may have to transplant my Pomegranate seedlings soon. I have only 3 left and they are starting to get larger. I will have to bring them inside because I don't think they would be hardy in a container outside in the winter

The Hollyberry Lady
06-23-2011, 09:08 AM
Thank you Cam, about my holly. ;) I actually have two in here but one is going to my mom's place.

I'm pretty sure they'll both be just fine, so I'm not too worried. It just sucks that I likely won't get to enjoy the new crop of berries but someday soon I will again, so no worries. I'm just going to keep it happy in here until I move to my new place where it will once again thrive outdoors. :D

Gosh I love Hollies...surprise, surprise! :ha:

Is your pomegranate a dwarf variety, Cam? I once grew a dwarf type "Nana" and it produced fruits indoors over the winter but I had to hand-pollinate the blooms. It made a beautiful houseplant though and they grow a lot over winter, inside. :)

Good luck with yours.

: )

Willow87
06-23-2011, 09:23 AM
My Poms are the standard variety. I got them from a friend who has a 10 foot tall tree. I wish they were the dwarf variety but maybe I could train them to be dwarfs. I don't know if I should bring them in too because they aren't growing very fast

The Hollyberry Lady
06-23-2011, 09:33 AM
Well what does your friend do with their 10 foot tall tree? Is it in the ground and does it return each year?

I grew my dwarf pomegranate from seed but it took 3 months to come up! Oh boy when it did though, it grew like crazy in my south window. The branches were pink. I pruned it a bit so it became really full and bushy. I have a pic of it with fruits on it and have posted it on this site...just can't recall which thread. :ha:

Anyway, it makes for a great houseplant if you've got good light so I can't see it being a problem if you bring it in for winter protection. Hope it works out for ya Cam, one way or the other. ;)

Gonna post shots of my dinner later, along with dessert. I don't always eat dessert but lately I have been a lot. As long as my clothes still fit and I don't look like two-ton-Annie, I never worry. So I wonder where JaNan and Tom are...Zac for that matter too! It's been kinda deadsville around here lately...partly my fault. Let's try to chat more...

Cam you really are excellent at growing perfect sunflowers! I've never seen them look so
nice! :goteam:

Usually the leaves are all torn and tattered or the plants are drooped over...but yours are perfect specimens. If I had any idea that you were going to turn out to be the king of sunflower growing, I'd have sent you tons more seeds! I will soon though. ;)

So Cam, which one is your favorite so far? They're all so lovely but one must appeal more than the others? I'm curious, so I can make sure to get you another packet of your very own, before they put the seeds aways for the season. I still have lots left but I thought I'd get you your own because you're so terrific at growing them and could use lots of seeds.

Change of plans...it's raining out. I took some shots but I wish they were a bit clearer. I should have used the flash but didn't. :(

Just hanging out. Oh and Cam, I did the Rabbit (Hare) already in the Zodiac thread, so I hope you had a chance to look at it. Hope too that JaNan sees the recent excerpt I included for her.

So what are everyone's plans this weekend? I'm likely just taking it easy since next weekend is the long weekend. Might go to the 24 hour grocery store/ nursery later tonight. No, I won't walk there JaNan, so don't worry! :ha:

Oh and Cam, recently in a post, you mentioned 'going to work'...did you get a job?! Now you'll have some extra money and can save up for stuff! :goteam: I wanted to congratulate you about it. :D

: )

Willow87
06-24-2011, 07:31 PM
Thanks Sherry, I'm really surprised that the leaves aren't torn because they are in a very exposed site. They are a very cheerful and tolerant plant, maybe next year I will plant alot more along the house. I've never been called the king of sunflower growing lol but I really enjoy the color, which is unusual for me because I don't really care for yellow flowers. So far my favorite has been the Russian Mammoth even though it hasn't bloomed yet. I love the large leaves and of course I love tall flowering plants. Now I'm just waiting for the flower. I wish one of the Fashion Mix or Ruby Glow would bloom but I can't tell which ones are which lol. Dean and I were talking about the Sunzilla sunflower that gets 16 feet tall, or maybe you told me about it.
You are so lucky to be getting rain. Its going to be very hot and dry here into next week. Hopefully you will get some nice weather, I wish we could trade. I read about the Hare and some of the things do describe me lol. I help my mom clean houses and we have a job tomorrow. Part of the money is going to my early birthday present which is pvc pipe for my dragon fruit and maybe some fish emulsions.

The Hollyberry Lady
06-24-2011, 08:00 PM
Oh well that's just great that you've got yourself a little part-time job...so you can have some things you want. :08:

I got my very first job at a clothing store when I was 14 and I loved being able to buy nice things I wanted and have the means. All my friends were broke and I would always encourage them to do the same thing as me. Not having money sucks, and if you're able to make a bit of cash for yourself...why the heck not! So good for you, Cam. I think it's great. :D

Yeah, I'm kinda bummed about not being able to mail anything to anyone. This is the time that I wanted to send stuff but I didn't anticipate us having a full-blown mail strike. I just hope it's over soon. :(

Whatever you are doing to those sunflowers Cam...they're loving it! :08: I'm not a big fan of yellow flowers either but sunflowers are definitely an exception! There's no flower so bright and cheering. ;)

So you love the Russian Mammoth's, eh? I'm gonna get you your own packet of them...maybe even tonight if I hit the nursery. ;)

Wow...a 16 foot tall sunflower! Nope, it must have been Dean that mentioned them. Omg that's huge! You'd have to stake them, I'm sure!

I'm looking forward to adding some information to the Zodiac thread and glad you related to some of the Rabbit characteristics.

Willow87

it's always nice to have a little cash LOL. With the sunflowers every 2 weeks I fertilize them with Miracle Grow and I foliar feed them with Hasta Grow every 7-8 days. I would definitely love to grow more Russian Mammoths and create a screen. I saw quite a few pictures of Giant Sunflowers on Gardenweb, one man had one that surpassed the roof of his house. I don't thing he even had to stake his.
I think my peppers love the cooler indoor temps, though they aren't getting as much light. The Fish peppers have a little bit of variegation on the leaves, its so cute LOL. I read my sister the Libra one and it perfectly describes her.

The Hollyberry Lady
06-24-2011, 08:31 PM
I enjoy Librans and seem to always attract them more than any other sign.

Wow...I knew your sunflowers looked so green and healthy, so this must be attributed to all your fertilizing! Good for you, Cam. I think they're so beautiful and I'm absolutely tickled at the success you've had with them. :D

I wanted to pick up a multi-grain baguette, olive oil, and some parmesan cheese...oh and milk too. I looked at their plants but not for long because I was getting too tempted to buy some.

I gotta still load the shots of my late dinner I had too...for you guys to see. Of course you know I had lemon meringue pie for dessert and will be eating it for the next week! I love icy cold lemon pie. Yummy.

So Greg, are you around too? Feel free to butt right in and chat with us any old time you feel like it...you're more than welcome here. ;)

OK well I was about to give one of my Bay trees a shower. All 4 of my trees that I have here are putting on new beautiful growth, with super large leaves. Terrific about the sunflowers, Cam. It slipped my mind to look for the seeds last night but I'll be going back again in a day or two and will surely remember them for you. I have lots anyway but think you could use your own, so you can plant lots of them all around. You sure are great at growing them. ;)

So yeah, I'm gonna get some shots loaded shortly of my lunch today. People can show their breakfasts, lunches, and snacks too...not just dinners in the dinner thread. I really like that thread but wish people would show more pics. I especially wish we could see some foods from some other countries too, and know what the favorites are in other lands also. That would be cool.

Neat, that you have some wild sunflowers Cam! :08: You can mix them around with mine too. You'll have the best sunflower display around, although I think you've got a lovely bunch right now too. I'm sure you are very much enjoying their beauty.

When I was a kid, I had a thing for sunflowers and eating their seeds. People that we knew grew many large ones and they used to let us kids eat the seeds from right off the flowers! I loved it and just thought they were the prettiest flowers ever.

Hi Greg!!! :waving:

I've been wondering if you were ok. Missed ya. ;)

Um...sunflowers will bloom even in mid to late fall and they grow super quickly so no, it isn't too late to plant some, Greg! When everyone elses' are dead, yours will be just starting! They won't have time to develop seed though and some large types take awhile so be sure to check out the estimated bloom-time so you can judge from there, the best ones to sow now. :D

I'm just loading my lunch shots now for the dinner thread...

I appreciate the Zodiac info Sherry. I'm definitely a shy person lol. I think I will try to collect some of the wild ones as soon as the flowers fade. Most of them have several blooms per stalk and there are fields of sunflowers in my area. They are still thriving even though they havent been watered. I wanted to collect some Blanketflower seeds, they grow wild around here and this year there were so many that several fields were red from the many blooms. I think I found my new flower for color every year (Sunflowers) I love eating sunflower seeds.

Wow, it sounds like things are going well for you Greg! I'm so happy for you and you totally deserve it. :) Please don't over-do-it though in your gorgeous gardens...I know how you Arians can push yourselves too hard. ;)

So nice that you have time off and things are stable...and what a terrific son you are, caring for your mom the way you do. It's really nice to read about. Mmmmmm....more Japanese food. I do like some stuff so I can see why you guys love it. Hope you enjoyed and had fun. Sounds like you're having a good day. :)

I got some more information typed out for the Zodiac thread...about Cancer, which I'll post shortly, Cam. I took a shot of my supper tonight as well so I'll post it in the dinner thread. It's neat looking back at the pics of meals you've made and remembering them. It'll be cool when the thread gets to be a couple years old. Anyway, tonight's dinner was pretty yummy.

So I'm just hanging out tonight. My girlfriend showed up earlier before she went on a date.

Oh and I was trying to get a shot of these new little adorable baby "Explosive Amber" and "Fish" peppers but they were too small and the shots sucked...horribly unclear. I got frustrated and gave up. I will show soon but I did manage to get a great shot of my mini bell peppers that are so cute right now.

Yes, I figured you'd be shy Cam...a lot of Cancerians are. Goona load the info I type in the Zodiac thread now. :D

:03: Oh Greg, that sounds like so much fun! I love the circus. I always love all the animals especially the horses! (I always hated the clowns though - never ever liked them even when I was little - and I never watched those scary movies about those mean clowns so I can't blame it on that) And parades! I always loved those too. Though I don't like the big drums, they always feel like they are beating in my stomach. Yeah, yeah, I know I am a wienie. Ah, but I digress.

Sherry, we appreciate all your hard work in the Zodiac thread! It's really interesting and fun when you can see yourself in the descriptions!

How can you tell if the sunflower seeds are ready to eat? Is it just the big giant ones or what?

Is anyone around tonight? :waving:

Hi everyone, I was watching movies with my family. Thank you so much Sherry for the zodiac info on Cancer. It pretty much sums up my personality for the most part. My sister was wondering if you could find info on the Dragon for the Chinese Zodiac

The Hollyberry Lady

You know when the sunflowers are ready because the disk looks black and the seeds look fat and swollen. The birds'll tell you when they're ready also. :ha: Yeah the large types are better if you wanna eat seeds.

Nope, I'm not big on clowns either JaNan and I know a lot of people who feel the same way. They're freaky and eerie looking.

You're welcome for the information in the Zodiac thread JaNan and thanks for mentioning it. I also find it very entertaining and fun. It's neat finding out about people and seeing what they're like.

Cool you're watching movies, Cam. I enjoy a good movie with a bowl of popcorn. Yup, I can do Dragon soon too. ;)

So I was loading some shots for the aero-garden thread...

Hi Sherry! Hi Cam! I was wondering if everyone was out on a hot date or something.

Hubby and I had to shop for refrigerators today. Our other one went out, but we found a really nice one and got a good deal - so we are pretty happy.

Then we turned it into sort of a date evening and splurged on a fancy dinner. It was nice, because we have had a rough week.

I hope everyones Saturday was great! :)

Great you got a new fridge, JaNan! :D

I'm just hanging out loading some shots. No dates for me, although I could have. I'm just not in the dating mood these days.

So I just released some shots in the aero-garden thread. Now I'm gonna post another somewhere else...

Hope you enjoyed your dinner out. You can see what I ate today for lunch and dinner in the dinner thread. ;)

Keep working Cam, and you'll get everything you need eventually. ;)

I 'need' a few new things too but I'm waiting until I move before I make any other purchases. I'm getting packed...slowly but surely.

Might log off soon. Tired tonight.

Yep. Sherry's right Cam!!!

Too bad I don't live closer to you Sherry! I would have you packed up in no time! Are you on a waiting list at the new condos? Seems like this year is just flying by. Half the year has already gone!

I had something to ask you here Sherry and I've already forgotten. I'll remember it in a minute.

The Hollyberry Lady

I'm not on a waiting list but I'm waiting for an apartment on the south or east side because of my plants. I'm packing slowly because I'm washing and dusting things before I pack them up...the long way.

Yeah, you can't get ahead in life without working and earning some bucks. I always worked all through my mid teen years, 20's and early 30's. It's the only way to get ahead. I'm hoping maybe at some point your sister can get you a job at the place where she's at, Cam. Having family that already work there will get your foot in the door before anyone elses. ;)

Ok I gotta get some sleep. I'm tired tonight and need to go to bed "early" for a change. It's already after midnight here.

G'night gang. :waving:
