Oh my gawd you have no idea, by the time I'm done with you guys. You'll have more seeds in the fridge than food! :ha:
Yes, please don't think I'm a snob Trina...not joining your movie thread. I will. I'm sick, but what are your excuses gang? Is this any way to treat a newcomer?!
Why I oughta! :ha:
Teasing of course, but it's not as funny in print.
Your son's a cutie, Tom. Thanks for sharing. :)
Did you guys see Henry tonight, checking out my aero-garden plants with me?

No worries Sherry! :)
Hey Henry.. you handsome guy you!

That shot of Henry makes him look so distinguised! :ha: He's such a Pretty.....oops, sorry Henry.......HANDSOME young fellow! :)
Does he ever try to eat anything there Sherry? I just wondered if anything has an enticing smell for him.
The Hollyberry Lady
04-24-2011, 10:16 PM
Thanks guys, about Henry. ;)
Oh no JaNan, I tell him he's pretty all the time...he loves it! :D
Hope you saw the other shot of him in the pet thread...
Yes, I was watching bits and pieces of a movie today Trina, I'll post shortly...

My son like henry. I agree, he does look distinguished. I don't generally watch movies, so I don't think I'll be posting in that thread.

Hi everyone. It did rain off and on all night and there may be some more today. Janan that is such a cool picture. I guess you can practically grow anything in the AG. Henry looks so cute Sherry, he is definitely paying close attention to your AG lol
The Hollyberry Lady
04-25-2011, 01:15 PM
I see you found the Pet thread, Trina! YaY! Your dogs are really nice looking. :)
Sorry I dropped off abruptly last night without saying g'night. I sure am feeling lots better today. I used chili peppers to heal me. Hope you guys will read my latest post in the hot pepper-a-holic thread because it tells a lot of great information that many people don't know about
hot peppers. ;)
So yeah Cam, Henry was looking right at JaNan's "marble" plant because he could see I was totally captivated by it. He gets jealous though too, if my attention is on the plants for too long, and not on him.
He sure is a cutie-pie and I just adore him. He knows it too and milks it for all it's worth! :ha:
It's overcast, rainy, and yucky here today. My mom is moving in a few days though. Yippeeee! :goteam:
She will FINALLY be free of the crap around here! :08:
So I hope you guys have a great Monday. I have a few things on the go but we'll catch up later this evening.
Sorry about not posting as many pics in the dinner thread JaNan, but I don't think you wanna see chicken soup everyday, which is what I've mostly been living on. I'm gonna have a decent meal today though at my mom's.
I have a problem with my picture memory card for my camera. A piece fell off of it (the lock) and now my camera won't accept it. The internal memory only holds one shot so it's pretty much useless until I pick up another card, which likely won't be until Wednesday. I'll still try to take a shot here and there but it won't be the same until I get a new card. It was old anyway. Weird though...my laptop accepts it, just not my camera.
Chat soon...

Im glad your mom is moving from that place Sherry. I bet she is so happy and excited. It rained off and on here, mainly typical spring thunderstorms but later in the afternoon there may be more severe weather. Its definitely humid outside. The rain pounded my poor sunflower seedlings lol. The castor beans are also coming up.
The Hollyberry Lady
04-25-2011, 01:27 PM
Excellent, that stuff is coming up for you, Cam. Don't worry, the sunflowers will stand up again. Just help them a bit by packing the soil tight around them again.
Yes, My mom is so happy...she's bursting! She's all organized and ready...and she's got a cheerfulness I haven't seen from her in awhile. She looks 10 years younger too, from the stress leaving her. Oh I am so happy I won't have to worry about her anymore. :D
Ok, I gotta fly for a bit but I'll be back later. Gotta go to my mom's and help her with a few last minute things.
BY 10:30 am this coming Thursday morning, she'll be completely moved and we'll be sitting on her enormously long balcony, that I'll be loading up with potted beauties for her!
Chat soon...

Good evening, gang. :D
Hope your Monday has been a good one. I'm going through picture withdrawal! :ha:
I can still take one shot at a time though, so maybe I will...
I hear you're getting some bad weather tonight Cam, so you might not be around. :( Take care and be safe...and let us know when it's over.
How's it going, Trina? Did you enjoy your Easter dinners? I kind of had one tonight...well at least something better than chicken soup!
JaNan, what's up girl? I imagine you are hovering over one of your AG's right now? ;)
Tom, you around? :03:
Ok, I'm gonna post a mediocre shot I took last night of my aero-garden in the A-G thread...
Did you guys read that stuff about hot peppers? Who would have thought they're so good for us eh?! I love them.

Hi Sherry, its strange that the post I sent didnt show up from earlier. I dont know what happened but its not in this thread. Luckily the storms died out before they got here, though there were tornadoes to the south. It did rain quite a bit today, I had to bring in my epi cuttings because I was afraid they were going to rot with all of this rain
The Hollyberry Lady
04-25-2011, 06:58 PM
No worries Cam, I've had it happen too, where I thought I posted, but didn't. ;)
I see you're still online, so the bad weather must not have come yet? Cool, you're still around. :D
So I was gonna try to get another shot of Henry near the aero-garden tonight because he was so cute last night there...and yes JaNan, he did try to nibble one of the "Jigsaw" leaves! He doesn't eat my plants normally ever though, unless I offer them to him or take him right up to one. He's really a very good boy and he has good manners too.
I think last night he was jealous of my attention on the A-G growings and knew just how to get me to look at him...by messing with my plants! :ha:
My aunt's male budgie, Willie, is a bad little devil that eats all her plants. He's done a number on her indoor passion flower vine this winter too!
Not my good little well behaved Henry though. :) He leaves my plants alone.
Ok, about that pic I was gonna post...
I'm feeling much better by the way...about 80% well now. :D
: )
Willow87
04-25-2011, 07:05 PM
I'm glad to hear that you are doing better. I dont know if its going to rain anymore tonight, though the forecast calls for a 40% of severe weather.
Jananas Bananas
04-25-2011, 07:07 PM
We are all glad you are feeling better, Sherry! :baloonnaner:
I'm still praying for rain here! We are under a tornado watch until 10 but we are on the tail end of that system and I doubt we will get much of anything.
No not puttering at the AG's. Still trying to decide what I am going to throw together for supper tonight and watching Dancing with the Stars out of the corner of my eye! :moonwalknaner: :ha:
Hey Cam, I read a post of yours in a thread earlier I thought was interesting because you normally didn't post in many others. Maybe that was it!
Trina, I love all your animals!!!! I have some rescues too!

I wish you could get some rain Janan, but not the severe weather. What thread was it?
Jananas Bananas
04-25-2011, 07:17 PM
I knew you were going to ask, darn it!
Yeah, me too! We have had wild fires in 3 out of 4 directions around us. And literally have large cracks in the ground. It is pitiful!
Willow87
04-25-2011, 07:20 PM
LOL I post rarely on other threads. You definitely need some rain if you have large cracks in the ground. I dont know what happened to the storms earlier. There was a solid line and once it reached Plano it died out and then reformed east of here LOL
The Hollyberry Lady
04-25-2011, 07:33 PM
Sheesh, that's all we've had is rain...it's raining now!
Trina is going to be getting a lot of rain too, moving to Vancouver. ;)
So ok I posted in the A-G thread, but I never know if I should post the same shots here too...not sure if you look at the A-G thread and see them already. I don't wanna be a bore. :ha:
I know you see them in the A-G thread, JaNan. :D
I am excited though because my "little blue" hot pepper plant and my marble plant are putting on thier crops of peppers...which means harvest time is coming! Oh I can't wait to harvest fresh hot peppers again from my plants! I'll never be sick again. :08:
So I was gonna post another shot I took yesterday, but not sure which thread yet...

Its strange, we had all of the right ingredients for thunderstorms lol. I cant wait to see my pepper plants sprout. I think the banana peppers sprouted today

Survived both dinners :) Turkey soup tonight!
Digging up some of my perennials to take with.. yellow crown peony, irises, daylilies, delphinium, bleeding heart and as soon as the rest of the garden thaws I'll get my lilies and rose. :D
The Hollyberry Lady
04-25-2011, 08:02 PM
Great Trina that you'll be taking some of your plants with you. No doubt you're busy and excited, like my mom is right now. :D
Those banana peppers will be so ornamental for you too, Cam. You can wait for them to ripen red for the best flavor. How exciting that you're growing peppers too. Aren't they just so cool?
I'm waiting on a pot of Aurora hot pepper seeds to sprout.
So Cam, do you follow JaNan and I's posts in the A-G thread? Did you see my 'little blue' peppers tonight?
So how come you don't post in other threads too, anyway? ;)
I notice you do post once in awhile in the "what'cha got sprouting" thread and the succulent and cutting thread from time to time too. :D
: )
Willow87
04-25-2011, 08:08 PM
I'm glad you enjoyed both dinners Trina lol. I just mainly post on this thread because right now my banana plants arent growing lol. I do post from time to time when I see something interesting. I'll check out the AG thread

WELL, I'm partial but the AG thread is SUPER terrific!!!! :ha:
Actually it is very cool!
Had to go feed the chickens and horses and then us. But I'm back now though I'm taking bites between typing!
:woohoonaner:
I fixed a spicy one tonight, Sherry!
Trina I told Sherry the other night I sure am glad you will get to live in a warmer climate.
Are you still not getting storms Cam or have they gotten there now?
Willow87
04-25-2011, 09:02 PM
Nothing else developed but a cold front will move through tonight and it may bring a chance of storms. There is also a slight chance tomorrow. I think Elkhart was under a tornado warning earlier

Oh my gawd, any temp would be better than that, Trina!
Yeah yeah Cam, you know you just like talking with HbL so you hang out here to chat with
me. :ha: I like chatting with you too. ;)
So I see the hot pepper addiction could be spreading to Trina now too! http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/2nd%20album/emo1.gif Just give me time to collect more seeds and I'll share some for sure.
Oh no Cam, so you don't even know if they're the hot or the sweet variety? That kinda sucks eh? :( I guess you'll know when you eat them. :lurk:
So you read about the hot pepper health benefits in the hot pepper thread, eh JaNan? Now you can't resist giving them a try. I know I could get you to get into eating them.
I have a pair of scissors that I use just for cutting hot pepper rings onto my plate of food. :D
I was trying to find a spot to post this one shot. I guess the succulent thread would be best, or maybe the image thread. It's my Easter cactus, as of yesterday...

It just may be Sherry.. :) I only started to appreciate peppers after going to the Caymans. Got hooked on Scotch Bonnet peppers (Hellfire Sauce) and my current addiction is a chili paste named Sambal Olek.
Willow87
04-25-2011, 09:11 PM
Well you and Janan are very friendly. And now I have to add Trina to my friends list :08: I know for sure they are sweet peppers. I think I have 6 of them coming up. My sister told me that she looks forward to bringing peppers to lunch lol

I sure wish you a very safe and successful move and trip to Vancouver. Be sure to write us at your first available opportunity when you get there. ;)

No problem Trina - that's how I have to do it - popping in and out. Otherwise I wouldn't get anything done! :ha:

I usually look at the National Weather service in Fort Worth's website. I also look at the storm reports on Fox4
Jananas Bananas
04-25-2011, 09:55 PM
I pull up the radar from the weather channel but I didn't today.
I watch Fox too only channel 7 here. But we don't hear much about the Dallas area or East Texas. We have enough stuff here they focus on unless something horrible happens, then we hear it!

04-25-2011, 10:18 PM
That's a beautiful boat Trina! How big is it (it looks huge)? My Grandpa always built things also. I miss him and my Grandmother a lot. Are yours still living?
Yes, we have some wild news that's for sure. Big news tonight is another apartment complex burnt to the ground. We've had a lot of fires going on this week. How close was that one up north to you and your family? It was Possom Kingdom or something like that - said over a thousand acres had burned but I think the storms finally put it out or helped them.
YouTube - Jan's Night-Blooming Cereus (http://youtu.be/vL68sBv8fc0)
I think I have two bloom stalks on my Cereus. I'll try to get a shot of it tomorrow! How big are yours?
The Hollyberry Lady

Multi-tasking...:ha:
Yup, I'm always running here or there all over my apartment. I might be heading over to the A-G site to update my aero-garden thread there and show them the shots you guys have seen.
I wanna get a shot for the image thread before I sign off though. Maybe another one of those cool "little blue" fruits will make a good image...
That boat is just too nice, Trina! I love it and you're so lucky to have something so cool from your grandfather. What a beauty that is. I would love to clean it, just so I could look it all

Thanks folks.. The boat is about 2' long and 18" high and no, he is no longer living.. he didn't get a chance to finish the boat before he passed. My grandmother on that side is still with us though. He was a master shipwright, as was his father and all of his brothers. During WWII, they were building 12 boats a month!
Some history if anyone is interested..
Living Landscapes (http://www.livinglandscapes.bc.ca/northwest/boatbuilding/wahl.html)
The last boat he built was for his son.

Its a beautiful color and another one is sprouting. I cant wait until it gets bigger and I can plant it in the ground. Most people consider them weeds but I think they have a unique beauty even if they are poisonous.
Jananas Bananas
04-27-2011, 08:16 PM
I love castor bean plants! I think they look very tropical. I don't have much luck with them though. Is that one of the purple varieties or is that a red or pink? It's very pretty!
Willow87
04-27-2011, 08:19 PM
Uh oh you scare me when you say that you dont have much luck with them. I believe its the red leaf variety. What problem do you have with them?
Jananas Bananas
04-27-2011, 08:32 PM
Don't be scared! Your experiences will be different. Everybody else has really great ones. Sherry will see this and just shake her head! :ha:
I can usually get the seeds to pop but never get them to "plant" stage. If I have an adult plant, it withers and dies. Probably location - I've tried in morning sun, shade, full sun. Anyway no luck.
Willow87
04-27-2011, 09:08 PM
Oh no. I have a few places I want to plant it. one area gets afternoon sun, another area is partial sun.. I want to try one in mostly shade too. I wonder why your plants dont make it. I hope I dont have any problems

Well summer may still be harsh for it. I at least hand water once or twice a week during summer. I really do hope they do well. I want to be able to collect more seeds this year.
Jananas Bananas

Yeah, you're right about that! Usually in the summer we are on water restriction. I have rain savers but haven't had any rain to save! :(

Hey Gang!
Hope all is well. My mom's all moved out of here now, with just a few more things we'll take over in the car later today. Sorry I haven't been around much but there's so much to do when someone moves.
JaNan tells me she did not get the seeds yet and no one else has posted, so I assume they didn't arrive quite yet either? I sent a letter to my grandparents over a week ago and they still didn't get it...and they're in Canada! Talk about snail-mail!
I did warn you guys that things would be slow on account of the build-up of Easter mail. Hoping you won't have to wait too much longer and that they've at least arrived in the US by now. They'll be there though, so please don't anyone worry. ;)
Unfortunately I don't have tons of time today and will have to go shortly. I thought I'd check in though and say hi, and maybe start a new thread quickly.
Have a great Friday, everyone. I should be around a little on the weekend but over the next week or so, I'll be kinda busy. Chat soon...

Any seeds yet, guys? I hope they're at least in the US by now. Depends on how fast we shipped them out, I suppose.
My grandparents still didn't get their letter from me yet.
Here's a cool shot of my dwarf keylime buds on my cutting that hasn't even grown leaves yet! :ha:

Oh and JaNan, I thought I'd let you know...I'm picking up a new memory card for my camera today so I can take more pics. It's so time consuming only being able to take one at a time and then if it's blurry having to retake it. With the memory card, I take many pics and then just pic out the nicest ones. Looking forward to getting back into the picture buisness again soon! :ha:
So I should still be around on and off and hope you guys pop in and say hi. Happy Saturday!
Trina, what day do you move? Did you get all your plants dug up? Sure hope you have a safe move and trip. ;)
JaNan, Tom, and Cam...how's your weekend going?

I'm back at work today. I'll probalby keep refreshing this website as I will have very little to do.
The good news is I don't have to work tomorrow and Tusday so if I get a certain envelope I will immediately get some seeds in some containers. I'll probalby keep refreshing this website as I will have very little to do.

Hey folks.. hope everyone is having a great weekend! :D
Sherry - we vacate this home on the 13th and leave town the following day.. heading down the highway cramming all of our belongings in a motorhome, uhaul trailer, jeep and utility trailer.. along with 4 dogs, 3 cats and 3 people! :) We are scheduled to arrive at our new home on the 20th in order to close the deal at that end. Have dug up all but two plants.. still waiting for the ground to thaw enough so I can dig up one of my lilies and rhubarb which I will split taking half and giving half to friends.

Ok so you're not moving until the 13th. I bet you can't wait. I'll surely send some seeds your way so you can have a nice garden, Trina. ;)
Sorry Cam & Tom that you didn't get the seeds yet. Not to worry, they'll be there sooner or later. Boy I hate holidays though in Canada, for mail service. It just sucks!
JaNan, you around? Did you get the seeds yet.
Might be going out later, but not sure when. My mom is fully moved into her new place now and she's totally happy. :D
Hope you guys have a good Sunday, if I have to go suddenly.

Yes, it's very cool that my mom's moved now. Her place is totally beautiful and I think I'm going to be moving into the exact same building!!!
It's rainy and dark here, so I don't think I'll be hitting the beach today. My mom and I were gonna take a shoreline walk today but it's just too cold and yucky out.
I'm hungry now and was thinking of making some grub. Not sure what yet...maybe soup.

No Sherry, no seeds yet. I'm hoping tomorrow since my others came on a Monday. And I am SO glad you got a new memory card!!!
Trina, I have made moves like that, but add on a horse trailer and two trips with it because it was a two horse trailer and we had thee at the time that we had to move (and subtract the motorhome). Always an adventure! :ha:

I'm disappointed, but my camera wouldn't accept the new memory card either! :(
I'm getting it replaced but I could be without Camera for 4-6 weeks!
I think I might look into renting one until my new one arrives though because I can't go that long without having one. In the meantime, until they send me the shipping box, it's back to one picture at a time.
Sorry you guys, but that's how it goes sometimes. At least I'm not without a computer! :D

It's looks like a real nice one, Tom. Be sure to show it when it blooms. Love the purple pot! ;)
I think it would be a much bigger pepper plant JaNan, if I didn't have 3 of them stuffed into one tiny pot. It's not a dwarf plant though. The one beside it has identical fruits but they are a much lighter green color. I bet they'll be great tasting and super hot...just what I'm looking for.
I'll definitely have to freeze some of them because I'm going to have a lot of them very soon.
Well, I just printed the shipping label to mail my camera back free of charge. I can ship it back to them anytime but I hate being without a camera. Are there places that you can rent a digital camera from? If so, I'd like to go rent one and them ship this one back.
They said they'll let me know when they receive my camera, exactly when the gift card will be mailed out so I can go and "re-buy" a new camera to replace the old one. So weird to me, but I guess this is how they do it. I'm just grateful to be gettng a brand new camera. I don't even think there's anything wrong with this one really, but I think the little lock from the old memory card is stuck down inside the slot from when it fell off. Now the card won't fit properly.
Last night too, I bought a way bigger memory card and an adorable pink camera case that's the exact same color as my camera. Being a girly girl, I love matching stuff like that. :D
So how's everyone's Sunday evening going?

Hey Tom, I have a Raja Puri that I nursed through the Winter,( outside) and didn't let it Freeze and after only five leaves it is rewarding me with a Fruit Flower, which means Ripe Fruit by August! My question is that while watching Video of a Commercial Plantation down in South America, I noticed that they placed a Plastic Bag over their Fruit Stalks that allowed air to circulate, but prevented pest to get at the newly forming fruit. I had a problem with that last year with my Cavindish, after five or six Hands the Honey Bees, Yellow Jackets and other Bugs showed up and the new fruit started dropping onto the ground. So, do you know where I could purchase some of those Bags, or where I might look?
Thanks, Kirk.....

Oh, I see you have to send the camera to them. That sucks! So you think it is something on the inside too.
Sherry, the only tall pepper I've ever owned is my Black Pearl. Maybe it is a sport of that and the little chili pepper one. It looks like the fruit will be long and slender. It sure didn't get any of the purple coloring did it?

I was just mentioning you to JaNan the other day and wondered where you disappeared to. So great to 'see' you again and please don't be a stranger. :waving:
I haven't actually returned it yet Tom, and I'm reluctant to, until I can see if I can rent another one first. I hate that I will be without a camera for a bit. Makes me want to just go buy a cheapy one, for times like this when I might need it. Not sure yet when I will ship it, but I'll see what I can do first about still having use of a camera while I'm waiting for the gift card to go buy the new one.
I'll be so bored with no camera...it'll be no fun for me either. Hoping they'll be fast. Yes JaNan, I think something's jammed in there and that's why the card won't fit in the slot now. I can't get it out and the guy at the store tried to and failed also.
I'm gonna go take another picture...while I still can. :ha:

Hey Ladies,( J-Nan and Sherry), sorry about that, but I have been busier than a one legged Man at a "Butt Kickin". We had our first Freeze on the first of Dec., very early for here and it lasted for six nights straight. I was able to get my Bananas protected, using several different methods to see which worked best. I lost my Five little citrus Trees though, but have replaced them with Hardier varieties. I have also put in thirty new Thorn-less,( Bush Type) Black Berries,( 20 "Natchez" and 10 "Ouchitaw's"). Oh and while I was resting I installed a "Micro Mister" Irrigation System, "Timer" and the whole nine yards. Now I can get back to my Morning Walks, as opposed to setting out there for Hours Watering plants. A little further into Summer we will get our "Rainey Season", where it Rains just about every afternoon,( an average of five days a week), but right now, only once every week or two.
If that wasen't enough Florida electede a bunch of Idiots that are trying to Gut Education,( along with everything else) and I still have two Grand Children in High School, so I have been out in the Streets with Signs , raising hell and Calling legislatures and giving them a piece of my mind.

Just still trying to get a good shot of these mystery yellow hot peppers, but they're either over-exposed or blurry and I'm getting annoyed. :(
I wanted to post them in the hot pepper thread to compare them to the darker green ones. Yes, they look like they'll be slim and pointy, JaNan. You mentioned this somewhere. I love hot peppers of all kinds so I'm sure I'll enjoy them.

I'm going to try looking later today to see if the seeds have come. I went to Lowes to get some sterile potting soil and humus and I found these pretty sedums on clearance. So I had to get them and they look nice by the blue spruce sedum.

Sherry should get a commission for all sales today. I ended up going for bird netting so the birds don't steal the sunflower seeds. I ended up buying a venus flytrap and pitcher plant, some poison ivy killer, some perlite, some stuff that is supposed to repel insects (ceder chips I think is the main ingredient), and a new seed starting tray with heat mat.
I also made an appointment to get my headlight cleared on the way back. None of which I would have done if a certain envelope didn't appear in my mailbox today :P
The stores around here owe you big time, and so do I for all the great seeds you sent. Is that ornamental pepper edible at all? That would be an added bonus. I think somewhere someone said you could eat it even though it is an ornamental.

Cam, I'd only need two small stubby short pieces of that sedum to make a plant. The cuttings root easily and quickly. Whenever you can spare a couple small pieces of it, I'd sure appreciate it. I love it!:goteam:

It should only cost a couple bucks to send some small pieces but if postage is a problem Cam, let me know and I can send a pre-stamped envelope.
So how's everyone today? I just finished dinner and now I have a huge plant job ahead of me. I'll be back and forth, from bathtub to computer. I have to shower a bunch of plants and water some others. It's a big chore but someone's gotta do it.
I just finished re-doing the xmas lights on my trellis with new ones, because the old ones were done. Nice to see it lit up again.
So I got the chocolate mint re-potted into a chocolate colored pot I bought just for the purpose. It looks great...and the smell is so nice. I could hang out by it all night. Can't wait to have enough leaves to dry them for tea.
Anyone get any seeds from me today?

I'm just taking a break, but the job's not even half finished! Some plants are draining in the tub and then the next bunch will be showered when they're done. I at least want to get all my living room plants done tonight but the rest are smaller and easier.
I can tell today that a couple of those Aloe Polyphylla seeds really are beginning to germinate, because I can see green!!! :08: This is the Aloe that spirals in two different directions. I had five seeds total. Hoping the others come up too.

I just finished now!
Wow that was a lot of work, getting everything showered, but I'm done nowl. I like showering my plants at night or on overcast days so the sun doesn't burn them while they're wet.
Tomorrow I'll do the rest of the plants in my other windows, but that's enough for tonight. I'm tired now.
I suppose Tom & JaNan are off sowing seeds somewhere. :ha:
Yup, I will show shot soon Cam, of the Aloe Polyphylla. It's just that they're so tiny so I know the shots will be blurry, and without a memory card it'll take too long to get it right.
Speaking of which...I'm gonna send my camera back soon so I'll be without a camera for a bit, unless I just can't stand it. If that happens I can go buy one, but I also have a webcam that takes a decent pic. Just remember, absence makes the heart grow fonder, and I'll sure love getting a new one soon. I'll takes a hundred pics when I do! :ha:
So what did you sow, JaNan & Tom?
Cam, I sure hope you don't have to wait a solid week to get yours. I know you're patient but it would still suck. We'll see.
Trina, I'll get some seeds off to you soon. I have your list.

So when does the aloe start spiraling? Is it a fast grower? I hope I dont have to wait a week either but its very possible that I will LOL. I looked outside today and in my pot of sea onions I found 2 Texas mountain laurel sprouts. I threw the seeds in the pot when I thought they wouldnt germinate. Well they did after 3 months LOL
The Hollyberry Lady

I think they begin to spiral within a year, Cam. I can't wait to grow them and see what they're like. I guess they're nearly extinct and only one guy in California grows them. I feel pretty special to have something so cool like this. I hope they grow well for me.

Sorry if you're overwhelmed by all the seeds, Tom. :ha:
I just didn't want them to go to waste, but you don't have to necessarily sow them all this season. They're all fresh so you can plant them in a 2-5 years even, and if you store them in a cool and dry area...likely even longer.
Did you sow the white kind, as well as the dwarf french petite mix? You'll just love those white ones, Tom. They are one of my all-time favorite flowers. Just wait until you see! :goteam:

Sherry you know I'm patient, I have so much growing right now lol. This is the most things I've grown from seed. From past experiences I stayed away from seeds but some I cant believe how much success I'm having. I'll send you some of the sedum cuttings when I can and when it warms up there, even though I think they would be fine. I just love your pepper plants. I cant wait until mine produce fruit. Each one still has two leaves so I dont know when they will develop more. I checked my Fishtail palm seeds and found out they are producing roots. I was pushing the soil back because I was making sure they werent rotting and 3 seeds had roots. I just covered them back up and said sorry for disturbing you LOL.
My mom is still mad at me because when I was rushing to bring my cuttings inside from the rain, I brought a caterpillar indoors. I was taking a nap and I heard a scream and my mom woke me up yelling at me about a caterpillar on one of my plants lol. I still havent heard the end of it

Thanks, about my pepper plants. I'm glad you're enjoying them. They grow pretty quickly so don't worry, but if they're not growing much above soil, the roots below the soil are developing first. I even noticed buds tonight on that "Jigsaw" plant in my aero-garden!!! Wow that was fast.

No need to be envious Cam...I will send all you guys the "little blue" variety as well. I just need to collect some seeds, which as you can see, won't be a problem.
Just give your pepper plants lots of sunlight and fertilizer Cam, and they'll be loaded with fruits before you even know it. If they're indoors, keep them showered from mites.
I'll send you "Aurora" and "Explosive Amber" later too, and if JaNan doesn't get around to it first, I'll send ya "Marble" as well. You'll have some very cool peppers to grow, by the time I'm through. ;)
Ok well if that mystery "jigsaw" plant is a cross JaNan...I love it!!! :goteam:
The fruits remind me of "purple tiger"...a gorgeous type I grew before.
I'm growing Blake's chilly chili too and it's got open blossoms on the plant right now. The fruits are super long and purple when they start out. Wait until you see! My "Black Pearl" plants are developing buds now too.
I have the first couple fruits on my "Jimmy Nardello" sweet pepper plant now as well. :D
No big deal about Dean not getting his seeds yet...I expected he wouldn't. It's just Easter that slowed things. Everyone will have their seeds in the end, so don't worry. ;)

I have read that Epsom salt is good to use for peppers and tomatoes. I was wondering if you used it when watering your pepper plants. I wonder if it helps with growth or just fruit production? I have all of my peppers outside in partial sun right now. Should I wait to fertilize them? Explosive Amber is another one I like

I've been using epsom salts on my plants for years now. It's magnesium. It can help with blossom drop on peppers and tomato plants. I even use it in my aero-garden's water basin.
Epsom salts also brings out the rich color of plants, and keeps them from looking dull. Don't over-do-it though with seedlings, Cam. ;)

JaNan, sorry I didn't have too many Goji Berry seeds to spare...I'm waiting on a new order right now. The three seeds I sent you though, are very fresh and viable so I wouldn't be surprised if all 3 of them pop for you.
Goji Berry shrubs are incredibly appealing to pests, so be extra careful to keep them showered and clean of them. You are very lucky to get those ones from me, as only a select few ever have. ;) They're berry special :ha:
Cool you're growing a 'Fish' and a 'Black Pearl'. You're gonna love "Fish". Ever grown a pepper plant that has variegated fruits as well as leaves?!
So I just can't believe how many peppers that 'little blue' plant is setting! It's crazy but I love it. I am so excited about eating my first one..."little blue" is super nutricious and full of vitamins! I love the heat too. ;)
I have faith in the marble plant as well JaNan...I know it will pull though with lots of fruits in the end. There are a few new ones already.
How did you grow yours before...it was outside, correct?
I have a 400W MH lamp, Tom. :D It's in my bedroom. Wish I could have a 1000W system like you, but it would set my bed ablaze! :ha:

You can water with either a weak, diluted solution of fertilizer mix, very weak though, or you can water in some epsom salts. Epsom salts aren't really necessary right now but if you want you can apply 2 tablespoons of it, per 2 litres of water, until they're bigger.
Don't go killing your seedlings though Cam, by over-doing a good thing. When it comes to seedlings, less is better. ;)

Yeah, the seedlings are good for about two weeks after germination occurs, before they need some nutrients, Tom. ;)

Have any of you guys eaten or tried Miracle Fruit? I wonder if they are hard to grow from seed? Sherry, do you know much about them?
And Desert Rose, also. I have heard that those are tough from seed.

That's what I'm waiting on now JaNan...miracle fruit and goji berry seeds...among a few other special fruits seeds too. ;)

I'm trying Cherimoya seeds right now. I ate one for the first time a month ago and it was super delicious. I saved all the seeds and have been trying them one at a time, but haven't had any luck sprouting. Both in my seed starting domes and the AG. I am going to have to re-read starting them to see what I am doing wrong. Do you know Sherry about them?
Willow87
05-05-2011, 11:21 PM
Seems like Miracle fruit has to have very acidic soil. I think i read that somewhere. I saw one plant for sale on an online nursery. It was $7 for a 4 inch pot i think. I could be wrong, Sherry help me out lol
The Hollyberry Lady
05-05-2011, 11:30 PM
Nope, don't know about them, JaNan. Wonder why they're not coming up. Did you sow them fresh from the fruit?
Not sure Cam, but that price sounds about right.
I think I'm hitting the hay early tonight...I'm sleepy. I need a good night's rest and tomorrow I'm doing some more packing. Can't wait to get out of here!

Good Morning!!! :waving:
How's everyone's Friday going, so far?
The sun is coming out here and it's looking like it might be beautiful day. All my plants are thriving, and I've got them all showered and cleaned recently. It's a big job each week, but someone's gotta do it. :ha:
I was gonna take a shot or two this morning. I'm sending my camera back on Sunday or Monday, whenever UPS can pick it up from me. I bet it will only be a couple weeks I'll be without one, so don't worry gang. ;)
I've never eaten a miracle fruit before but looking forward to trying them. Not sure how long the plant will take to produce fruit when it's grown from seed. Guess I'll find out...

Good Morning Sherry. I mowed my lawn today and foliar fed my plants. I'm covered in mosquito bites though lol. I hate those things, they are already bad, especially since it rained. I even have bites on my scalp, they made it through my little hair lol.
The Hollyberry Lady
05-06-2011, 10:26 AM
You should really wear some protection like "OFF" or something, Cam. You don't wanna contract west nile virus from those disgusting things!
Great you got some stuff done. I just have one more plant to feed and then everything's done. Now it's just packing, which I intend to do this afternoon a little bit. If I keep at it everyday, I can get it all done in no time.
I sure miss my mom being gone. :( I can't wait to move near her again. We're close and spend lots of time together, so it sucks being further away for awhile. I'm going to try to get a place right in her building though...which means I'll have either a groundfloor apartment with gardens, or a huge enormous balcony to grow stuff on in containers. It a terrific place for gardening.
: )
Willow87
05-06-2011, 10:33 AM
I have some OFF but I hate spraying it on me because the smell stays on me all day. I have some with no fragrance but I have to look for it LOL. My yard has always had lots of mosquitoes. I sprayed three times last year and it only helped for a little while. Plus I'm a mosquito magnet. I sat outside with a friend by some citronella candles and they didnt bother him at all, they just bit me.
I'm happy that your mom moved from that place but its sad that you cant be close to her now. So the balconies are large? That would be so nice. When I lived in an apartment the patios and the balconies were small but the groundfloor patios were large enough for me to put several houseplants in and build a mini flowerbed.
The Hollyberry Lady
05-06-2011, 10:56 AM
These balconies aren't just large...they're HUGE!!! The run the entire length of the apartment. I'll even be able to enjoy hanging baskets too. Plus there's a pool they said I could put plants around. There's three elderly ladies that do the gardening for the building there, so the place is really nice, with potted plants and gardens everywhere.
Sucks about the mesquitoes really taking a liking to you, Cam. All the more reason to get that unscented OFF so they don't bother you. Plus the itchy bites must really be horrible. :(
I'm hungry. Gonna have some greek salad with feta cheese for lunch, with a Portuguese bun...
: )
Willow87
05-06-2011, 11:03 AM
Thats amazing, I've never seen an apartment balcony that huge. Its neat that they will let you garden around the building. Sounds like a really nice place.
Both me and my mom attract mosquitoes. Dean said that I should eat more garlic and that should repel them for the most part. Alot of the bites are painful and last a for a couple of days. I remember Zac came over to my house and we were talking outside and when he got home he emailed me and said how bad the mosquitoes are in my yard and how they leave nasty bumps.
I'm eating some Jalapeno carrots that my mom made yesterday. I dont even like carrots and these are really good. Its a mix of sweet and spicy.

So cool that you got the seeds finally Cam! Hope Dean gets his today too. I think his garlic suggestion is great, and garlic is also really good for you. If you've got any girls around though...be sure to brush your teeth. :ha:
What are you gonna sow today, Cam?

Yes Zac lives in the neighborhood that I use to live in. He isnt that far from me, and I've done a couple of trades with him. He is very nice. I havent heard from him in a while though.
I definitely love garlic, i want to try roasting some in the oven, I like eating it raw too lol.
I just got in and I have everything planted and labeled. Thanks so much Sherry i really appreciate this. I saw that you gave me the variegated pepper, I really look forward to that and the Jerusalem Cherry I put poisonous on the the label, so I will know. Trina, I intend on mailing your seeds off by Sunday night. ;) Let me know if you want anything else, other than the list I have.
So I was trying to get a shot or two but they're coming out too blurry. I'm gonna try to get a shot of my dinner...making pork loin shish kabobs with garden salad on the side. It sucks my mom's not here to have it with me though. :(

In fact, if she were my neighbor, I'd be finding a whole whack of excuses to knock on her door at dinnertime! :ha:
If I had any ripened hot peppers, they would have been on the kabobs too. Soon I'll have lots of them.
I love stuffed peppers, Cam. :goteam:
If you make them, be sure to take pics. I make mine differently than most people do. One day I'll show shots and give out my own personal recipe. :D
I'm still waiting on some pepper seeds, but they didn't come yet. I was going to post in my new thread called "what new seeds did you get". Maybe next week.
Not sure how much longer I'll be with you guys. Going out with a friend for a bit but hopefully be back later. Where's JaNan these days?

That is so neat Sherry. I want to try growing mints again. At my old house, i had several lemon mints. They grew everywhere. I was giving away big zip lock bags of mints
The Hollyberry Lady
05-07-2011, 09:57 AM
JaNan's got me completely obssessed with chocolate mint and when I saw it, I just had to get it. The color on such a young plant was really impressive.
I noticed this morning as the shoot is drying more, the back of the leaves are becoming bright purple...just like lemon balm does. Here's what I mean...
This is how my lemon balm dries, with a purple hue on the back of the leaves:
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/2nd%20album/075.jpg
The mint is drying much the same way and the chocolate color on the back of the leaves is now turning purple. How totally cool and appetizing, eh?
If herb leaves turn black when they're drying, they're good for the garbage! The key to drying them properly, is to make the bundles small so lots of air can circulate. Keep them in an airy spot, but not windy. Shade is best when they are drying. I dry mine inside in shade, but near an open window. I'll show the chocolate mint shoot when it's dried.
Did you guys see my "Table" tomatoes this morning?

I'm gonna save lots of seeds from the "Table" tomatoes. I gave so many away last year that I desperately need to replenish my supplies. Doesn't look like that's gonna be a problem though. :ha:
The thing I love most about the "Table" variety is that it's perfect for indoor window growing, and it doesn't even require a whole lot of sunlight! Even 1-2 hours of sun a day, will be sufficient for this plant! It thrives in bright light and it doesn't like a lot of fertilizer, unlike other tomato varieties. It only grows 10" to a foot tall...or even less sometimes. I keep mine in a 6" pot because it packs on a much higher yield when it's rootbound.
It's classified as a cherry tomato plant but some of the fruits are the size of a golfball! They're very tasty too and rich in flavor. I can share seeds later when I collect and dry some.
Too bad you didn't make tea from your fresh mint, Cam! It's out of this world. If you ever have bad heartburn, drinking a cup of mint tea, will cure it. It's just delicious. Zac sent me some chocolate mint tea leaves that he bought and when I opened up the tin, the scent was incredible! I still have some left and the tea from it is just delicious. I can't wait to try some with my own freshly dried leaves...yummy!
Hope you guys have a great Saturday. I'm going out soon, but not sure exactly when. It's a gorgeous spring day out there and the sun is shining brightly.

Wow a tomato plant that doesnt need much light, thats amazing. The little Micro Tom tomatoes you sent me are starting to grow. They have their first true leaves, I cant wait to try one of the little tomatoes. I may grow it indoors once it gets bigger to protect it from the pests. Yes it is a shame. I don't like to grow mint directly in the garden Cam, because it's extremely invasive and can take over a whole entire area in no time flat! I only like it in pots, where I can control it.
If it's grown in pots, mint can be a wonderful thing...in the garden though, it's a nightmare! :ha:
I hope to let some of my chocolate mint produce flowers, so I can collect some seeds from it and share them.

You will notice the quality of your seed-grown plants, as opposed to nursery plants that are more about quantity. Looking foward to seeing your stuff grow this season. So what are all the pepper plants you're growing this summer?
So cool Trina, that you're moving to Vancouver Island. I have family out in B.C. and spent an entire summer there once. It sure is beautiful. So glad you're moving somewhere you can actually grow something! :ha: I bet you are too. ;)

I think I figured out why my marble pepper plant wasn't setting as many fruits as it should have been, JaNan...if you ever return to us. :waving:
Time will tell but I think I've solved the mystery. I'll let you know when you come back...
Not sure how late I'll be up until tonight because I'm not tired yet. I was just going to check out some of my dried chocolate mint and see how it's doing. The orange mint cuttings have already rooted!
I did some researching about orange mint and it said it smells like Earl Grey tea and orange Bergamot. That is what it smells like, and now that I know what it is, I like it. I love Earl Grey tea.
Mint cuttings root super fast. I'm gonna root the tips of my orange cuttings for Greg because he's gonna share his apple mint with me. :D

Thats so nice that you did that for your mom. I've never rooted mints from cuttings before. I want to dig up some bee balm a friend is trying to get rid of. I wonder if i could take cuttings just in case the plants dont make it?
The Hollyberry Lady
05-08-2011, 11:42 PM
Yup, you sure can take cuttings...and they'll root easily too, Cam. ;)
Mint is just awesome...when it's in pots. :ha:
I'm a huge tea drinker, so that's why I like it so much. If you like the smell of Earl Grey tea and orange bergamot, you'll like the 'orange mint'. It's really growing on me (no pun intended :ha:) now that the scent has been indentified.
Wow, that little chocolate mint shoot is completely dried and the smell is even more intense! I gotta taste some in a minute. I think I'm in love with this plant. it's growing so nicely in my window and I bought a cute chocolate colored pot for it.The scent is just so rich and chocolately. :D
