The first one is some sort of palm/palmetto.

The next is a flowering tree.

Both are growing in Orlando, FL.

The first picture is Bismarckia Nobilis. Do you have a close up picture of the flowers on the second picture? I can't ID that one.

Steve,

Have y'all had any luck with Bismarckia in LC? I bought 2 small ones at Target a couple of years ago and planted them in a sunny, protected spot. They've made it through 2 winters, and I thought last winter would have killed them for sure. They're slow, but doing well.

The second plant looks like evergreen giant liriope to me.

I've had one planted in a protected spot for 5 years. It made it through our very rough winter last year and has produced three fronds this summer but it doesn't show the vigor it did the first few years. I thought it would be more cold sensitive than my Queens but not so. I lost 6 10-year old queens this year from the 20 degree week in Jan. I'm not planting the Queens back. I selected a slightly more cold hardy palm to replace them, Indian date palm. Supposedly hardy to 15. We'll see.

Sorry, that's the only picture I have. I had guessed, maybe, it could be a Yellow Poinciana and, when I went to google images, it does kind of look like that.

Interesting.

I don't have anything to compare my Bismarckias to, and I've always heard that they're slow so I haven't expected much. Like you I was surprised at the queen palms here, threw mine away too. I figured they'd be the ones to make it and I'd lose the Bismarckias, not the other way around.

Oops! I thought you were asking about the grass in the foreground!

That's a strong possibility. Do you remember what the leaves looked like? If so, did they look Mimosa like?

I think the leaves were Mimosa-like, but not sure. I didn't go up close to it. I was at the Orange County Convention Center, for the Florida Nursery Growers trade show, and as I was passing, the yellow caught my eye.

Without a close up, not really sure. Other possibilities are golden rain tree or maybe a Cassia cultivar.

Thanks guys. It's not really important. Was just curious. In the next couple of days I will, hopefully, post some more pictures from the show.
