If you are an agriculture student, or researcher, you can order plants for free from the national germplasm repository (GRIN). If you let them know you are a researcher or student in a related field, they will send you the plants for free (shipping included). Here is the link, if you search for MUSA you will find many cultivars.

Thanks for the link Jeff. I didnt know GRIN had a germplasm collection, I'll pick up a few from them for my breeding project. If there are any other researchers, if you dont already know, check out INIBAP's genebank, the MGIS is down right now so you cant view the accessions but once its back up you will see which varieites you can get, about 1,200 available at this point.

I don't think they ship plants, just germplasm -if I understood correctly. Maybe you could TC this?

Germplasm is a confusing word, but when its used in these situations, it just means plants. When you have a collection of germplasm, its a collection of different plants. Its not little cells that you must grow further or anything like that.

Thank for the link, Jeff! It just so happens that I'm an ag student at UT Knoxville. Don't need anything now, but that may come in handy here in a year or two. Pretty thoughtful of them. :gangstabanana:

My pleasure... As long as you let them know you are an Ag student (or some related field) or are a researcher, they will supply the material free of charge. They have a ton of musa varieties and many have photos of various stages of growth. :2223:

I just sent the link over to the High School and hope it is something they can use.. I just wish I was a student or researcher right now..LOL Looks like they had a ton of cool stuff...

Hmmm... I teach at a college, but can't quite come up w/ a statement that sounds like I am studying plants. Maybe something like, "Dear Sirs, I am developing a grant proposal for a Musa root study, and need to research structures from various cultural sources." Would they know I study language?
A friend who trades plants w/ me teaches Geography, including dietary and agricultural practices in other cultures. Maybe he could do better.
Anyway, it looks like a great resource.
