Can you help Jose (Jose263 on forum) ID this one? I don't think he has any pics of a bloom but he does have a few more pics in his gallery. He lives just north of I-10 near Biloxi Mississippi.

Jose said he planted it near a pile of horse manure. Viva la horsepower!!!!

This growth is from this spring as he said it froze to ground this past Winter.

Jose is new to the forum and I'll send him a link to this post.

I don't no for sure but I'd guess Orinoco. As far as I know all banana plants bloom.

Y'all, I'd say Orinoco too - especially since that's the common pass-along banana of the Gulf Coast. For that fact alone I'd put my money on Orinoco, but it also looks just like every one I've ever seen.

Jose,

My inexperienced eye says that it looks like Orinoco BUT Bananas all look alike to me. Can I say that? LOL I just don't have the skills necessary to ID yet. There are some Orinoco that flowered and fruited this year in Pensacola at a local restaurant. I'm quite sure they receive no care at all although someone did harvest the fruit. They did not wait till it was ripe though and I'm told Orinoco taste better when riper. If it does bloom post pictures of the bloom and it will be ID'ed 100%.

Here they are. July 15,2010
