A member PM'd me awhile back asking what we use to de-hand the bananas from the bunches and I sent him some photos of the tool we use. It finally occurred to me that others might also be interested in seeing this tool, so here are some photos. I didn't make this, but purchased it in the major commercial banana growing region to the south of us, so I take no credit for the unique design.

From the title of the thread I was expecting an announcement of a new orthopedic surgical device!

Charles ---- I didn't want to spread your pics around. Thought it best to leave it up to you. Have been searching specialty tools for something with that bend radius and think I found it.
A post hole digger. Cut off 4 to 5 inches of the blade tip and put an edge on the cut end. Find a tool with a T-handle shaft. Make the bends. Weld together. Pad the handle ---- and whalla! A handy dandy naner hand dehander. Say it fast 10 times!

"A handy dandy naner hand dehander" ??:08:
Dan, sorry I didn't clarify for you.... but perhaps you didn't read SaltyDad's post?
You weld this up and you'll have your very own "new orthopedic surgical device"
You must not be getting enough balut?

Charles --- I can eat stinky fish out of a can with capers, crackers and cheese. I can eat any raw fish as long as there is wasabi, good soy sauce, pickel ginger and daikon shred. Also beef raw. Very stinky corned spare ribs and kraut. Chicken feet and tripe from the Dim Sum cart.
But I draw the line at balut. Do you want to tell the forum what it is? Not me, I'll barf! I'll never forget the look on my Russian friend Harry's face when he told me about the balut his new Philipina wife suggested they have before dinner.
I love all things poultry, but balut --- forget it!
Sorry - I don't see the orthopedic connection!? Like the cuff shaped brace on a walking cane?

A balut is a nearly developed, fertilized duck egg that is boiled and eaten in the shell. Mostly available from street-side vendors here in the Philippines where it originated, it's now available throughout Southeast Asia as common everyday food. It is popularly believed to be an aphrodisiac, but since I've never personally had a need for such things, I have no need to try balut. Plus, I'm like you Dan, I'll barf if I get very close to this food, even though I see the vendors with them everyday calling out "Balut!" :03:
If anyone wants to see images, you'll just have to Google that for yourself, I'm not going to sabotage my own thread with that!
Orthopedic surgery or orthopedics is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system.
Hence, if you wanted to remove the hand of someone's body instead of your banana bunch, you might also be in the market for a de-handing knife. :ha:
