Was fishing for pompano in Jensen a few weeks ago when the cell rang. Wife said the bulldozers were clearing out the vacant lot next door. Said which one? Of course, it was the one I've been using for my offsite banana patch.
Got home fast to find half the lot cleared. But the big Saba pup was still in place. When the dozer guy left for the day at 3:30, grabbed a shovel and hand cart and rescued the last pup still attchd to the mama corm I dumped over the fence 3 years ago.
Amazing thing is this guy survived last winter, 30 to 32 deg F for 9 straight days. Wasn't planted either - just sat on the ground. No fert or frost protection - just yard waste mulch.
Replanted it in the other adjacent vacant lot. What the heck. Now I'll have dreams of waking at 7AM to the sound of heavy machinery!!!
