I was unloading the truck from the Santa Barbara Horticulture Societies annual plant sale (sold a ton of bananas and tropicals :)) and noticed my unknown ornamental has a huge variegated flower. I'm not thinking it's the new Santa Barbara AeAe! It's just cool. The flower is huge and the yellow bananas appear to be three to four inches in size. The plant is compact, 6 to 7 feet and a good clumper. Anyone have one of these and what is it? Thanks!

That is a 'Dwarf Cavendish', it's actually an edible variety, not just "ornamental". That streaking is normal, it's not chimeric variegation like in real variegated bananas, but just just normal pigmentation for this variety. Congratulations then on the bunch I suppose!

Wow, it seems like the answer to all the questions today are 'DC'. :ha:

Thank you very much! How about these two please? They were sold as Dwarf Orinoco. One is 12 feet tall and the other is 14.

They are next to each other.

That is so true! I just want to get them identified (please again). I hate having plants that I don't know what variety they are. These came from a very large and reputable wholesale nursery in California. I paid for dwarf Orinoco and got something else.

I thought we saw those photos somewhere too, no?
The first one is an 'Orinoco' (tall) and the second one looks like a Pome of some type, likely 'Brazilian' (tall). Do you have any more photos of one on the right which is more developed?

Thanks Gabe :)! Yes I did post these two plants a few months ago. What type of pictures would you like to see for the taller plant on the right?

If you can get a photo of the full bunch with the bud, that would help. Also, a close up photo of the freshest male flowers that had fallen on the ground will help. If you have already removed the bud, it will be harder to ID, but still get a photo of the bunch as it is now.

Hello Gabe and All,
I had to get a ladder to get close ups as the other bunch (Tall Orinoco) was in the way. I hope these photos help. I have had some Brazilian fruit and they look similiar.
