View Full Version : question for Ae Ae growers
How much red does your Ae Ae have? I have seen pictures of Ae Ae with a red lining on the stems and trunks. But also seen pictures of Ae Ae without any red at all. I have heard that the real Ae Ae does not have any red. Any info would be awesome. Thanks.

Sometimes the purplish colorations in the edges of stems and leaves of monocots are an indication of phosphorous deficiency. Just want to know if you have adequate available P before concluding that it is a new sport.

Mine changed depending on the time of the year in relation to temperature and growth speed. Sometimes it would have lots of red on the pseudostem and petioles and around the leaves and then other times it would be solid green and white. I doubt ones with red are a new sport, I think that in some growing conditions it shows and in other it just doesnt.

I've noticed the same phenomenon as Gabe. Sometimes, I see quite a bit of red, or maybe more better described as dark pink, and other times no red coloration at all. The pups don't seem to show any red or pink whatsoever; just the larger ones.

I have also noticed the same thing, although I am not sure if it is because of fertilizer that I have thrown down or climatic conditions.
Thanks for the info guys. The new leaves would have no red but as it ages the red develops. I had a feeling it may be due to environment but have spoken to a few others, one particularly in Florida that swears his never had any red.
