ID--queen palm? The trunk is about 7 feet tall or maybe a little more. Not counting the height of the pot.I have been not quite killing this one all summer long since a guy gave it to me in late June with no leaves. Should it take that long for it to grow a leaf or two with temps in the 90's 22 days this summer so far? What am I doing wrong? I've been watering it about 2-3 x a week if it doesn't rain with 200 ppm 20-20-20 once a week and plain water the other days.
Give me some potted palm tips.

It looks like a queen palm and it is normal for it to only make 2 fronds a summer. Mine made one frond this summer so far and its starting to make a second one. There have been entire weeks here with days in the 90s and nights in the 70s. If it didnt have any leaves then it was given to you in bad condition to begin with and it would naturally take at least an entire summer for it to recover. A tip with queen palms is that they love fertilizer and they also love the heat but with water as well on very warm days. I water my queen palm almost every day but there are days that I do let it dry out a little also. Some say they are fast growing palms and they probably are in the ground, but in pots, they arent in a rush to gain any height. Mine was a seedling about 6 years ago and now its 9 feet tall (including the pot which is a foot tall). Thats a pretty good growth rate but if I lived in a place warm enough for it to stay in the ground, it would probably be making seeds of its own by now.

Thanks for the advice. I thought since it wasn't growing like a banana, I must be doing something wrong. Now I feel better.

Sandy, how long has it been in the pot? Was it dug up, potted and then given to you, or is this one that was potted and the damage done while it was in the pot? I have a 16-18' overall height queen that has been in a 60 gallon nursery pot that I have had for three years. I overwinter it in my unheated garage in the winter and bring it out every spring. The first year, we had the "Easter freeze" and I wrapped it with frost cloth (2 layers) and afterward, that whole summer it looked pitiful! It has finally recovered and looks pretty good. Queens are pretty fast growers in the ground, but like anything else, are much slower in pots! If it was dug and potted when given to you, I am sure the root system was severly damaged, so that will have to regrow before you see nice growth! I wish you the best and hope it recovers and grows into a beautiful palm!!!
Here is mine as of last week:

The guy brought several of them up from florida in a truck, balled and burlapped, then potted them all up and overwintered them in a somewhat heated warehouse last winter. So it's been in the pot for at least last summer and overwinter. I'm thinking of using some systemic fungicide on it just to be on the safe side. I'm also going to spray it for spider mites if I see any on it, I'm going to get up on the ladder and check it out.

I would definitely check the pot; as Ante says it could be bad drainage, or underfertilizing. I use epsom salts on my palms to keep them green,in addition to GroMore ornamental formula..
