I picked this up down in Summerland.
They called it a dinner plate plant.
Internet searched did not yield its real name or latin name nor could I even find it.

Any ideas?

I believe this is a kalanchoe and this one with the very large leaves is commonly called "flapjack" around here. The more sun they get the more red will be in leaves. Here is a google search link:

flapjack kalanchoe - Google Search (http://www.google.com/images?um=1&hl=en&rlz=1C1AVSX_enUS387US387&biw=1600&bih=797&tbs=isch:1&sa=1&q=flapjack+kalanchoe&btnG=Search&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=)
