I got these beauties today at a local nursery. I just went there to check out what they had growing (especially since they do carry some banana varieties....though always marked as vaguely as possible (like 'false banana'))...not really intending on purchasing anything. I managed to find these for a BOGO deal (buy one get one) for $12!!! I didn't NEED any more plants, but I simply couldn't resist for that price. I told the cashier that I needed someone around here to talk me out of such things LOL.

You scored a great deal! :woohoonaner: I often feel the same as you when driving a nursery, even big box stores, I have this urge to stop and just check it out, NOT intending to buy ANYTHING, we all know how that usually turns out. :ha: Last time I went, I saw a citron (Buddha's hand), the ONLY one among millions of citruses, of course I HAD to buy it. Maybe Buddha had something to do with that.

Any suggestions on care for these? I've read shade and moisture are what they like. Anyone have experience with them?

I just planted some Alocasias. From what I can tell is lots of H2O. I'm not sure about the shade because one of mine is growing towards the sun.

Dean's right about the H20.. Mine like it wet and I can only imagine how much something that big could draw.. :^)

My 2 Alocasias are indoor, in large pots. I water them maybe once every 2 weeks, sometimes 3 weeks. They're looking very healthy. The pots are in a room with lots of windows, getting both direct and indirect sunlight.

My Alocasias are in sun until around 2 PM. They seem to like it.

Borneo Giant has been a 3 year disappointment to me. Most nurseries have rated this plant to Zone 9 but it's not. It will survive a year or two, never reaching it's advertized size and slowly evaporate into nothing during a cold winter. It will need some protection during the winter, even in zone 9; at least a deep south zone 9.
