Anyone who can grow a banana plant that well [especially through a Canadian winter] gets definite props from me. Good work, it looks awesome! :)
If they weren't so rare, I might almost consider one myself. But as Rmpmnz said, they're "not easy" and I'm still having problems with easy ones, lol.
Thanks for sharing! I'll definitely be watching this thread.

Well even your January photo looks great! I've only been growing bananas [or anything else] since May this year so I still have to deal with my first winter this fall [scary]. I drowned 2 dwarf Cavendish banana plants before I found out they don't live in rivers or ponds. I still have a dwarf Cavendish pup and an Ice Cream pup alive [major luck]. But now I'm wanting more color so I ordered [another] Black Thai and a Rojo Zebrina. Hopefully I can keep those alive [remains to be seen, lol].
Anyway, your project is very inspiring! Keep up the good work! :D

Very nice. The Red Kru banana is definitely one of my favorites. They don't look so majestic and often look horrible but the blooms and the fruit are out of this world in both appearance and flavor. I have some pics of blooms from mine in my gallery as well.
Hopefully you get fruit from yours next year, please keep us posted.
Enjoy them.. they are well worth the wait.

I have a musa kru and is more green than red, while the p-stem is green the leaves underneath have a faint red, there are a few qestions i would like to ask about musa kru.
1 Does this nana get red-er with heat, and direct light
2 why is it every time you sea musa kru,it looks completely different,as the one on this thread has a few red splashes on the leaves.
3 Are nurseries actually selling kru,or something else to customers.

1.with better growing conditions yes that seems to be the reason, also as the plant matures.
2. good question i know what you mean i have seen 2 or 3 other peoples kru's that are green with maybe 1 faint mark of red. perhaps their's may take longer or different growing conditions. or possibly it's a green Kru with no red..
3. hard to say perhaps they can get their hands on the green kru easier then the red. if you buy from the right place im sure they are selling a kru.

I planted this Kru in April. It was one foot tall then, and has been growing like a weed! The stalk is now 3-1/2 feet tall, and the plant is 7-1/2 feet to leaf tip. The leaves have nice wine stains on both front and back. The picture doesn't show it very well, but the stalk is a striking burgundy color.

Thanks for the news flash! I read that banana plants don't need much water in the winter. If it's too tall in October maybe you could lean the pot a little and gently rest the plant against a soft blanket. Best of luck on the March flower! :D

Thanks cory and sherry ! cory, yeah the cooler weather will be hitting us in 2 days , night temps of like 55-59 then after 3 or 4 days go back up to the 60's during the night. we do get bad winds in September through October. storms hurricane like. rain and wind. for winter wise last year we didn't get snow until Dec 10th or something like that, fingers crossed for something even better this year!

Your weather sounds a lot like ours. We're like totally flat so 50 mph winds are common with gusts up to 100 mph sometimes. When mine get tall enough, I'll def need to stake them or put them on a leash, lol! We also had an ice storm that hit around December 10th that didn't melt for over a week. I def hope we have a better winter this year!

Okay so I thought it was time for an update on the kru, Tony's has flowered , looks great , I am very excited ! It stopped growing for a good 2 weeks didn't do anything. But now has its second leaf out since its been inside. It is at the back door, with huge windows up top facing south.
Tony, how tall was your Kru when it flowered? I know I have a ways to go but I think they flower around 7-8 feet of p-stem ?
And Greg, hows yours doing? any updated pics?

Just been reading through this thread today, such a great thread about Kru, creating by Matt, thought I'd share it with the members who haven't seen it.

Matt,
What happened to your Musa Kru?.....Any Updates?.....Just curious!.....
Mushtaq,
Don't worry, I got you!.....Our Musa Kru it's doing awesome!.....Hopefully next spring, she will go to the ground!....By then, Musa Kru should have a big, nice size rootball!.....It should take off growing quickly!....
As I mentioned and some other members as well, Musa Kru it's definitely not an easy Nana to grow!.....And you don't see Musa Kru that often!....But she is definitely one of the most beautiful Nana Varieties!.....Stunning, breathtaking bio-colors!.....Amazing!.....
Pictures from 12/16/2018.....Musa Kru just opened a beautiful and bigger leaf!.....
