Excellent! I just planted a baby one the other day from jimmy.

I have to give jimmy props as he was great to buy from. He stayed in almost constant communication and the plants he shipped arrived quickly and in great condidtion.

Well 200 is much better than no fingers, especially in the midst of El' Nino.. Congrat's Tony. :^)

Mushtaq - my 1000 fingers flowered in 10 months from planting and it took off immediately it was in the ground - the fastest of all the varieties we have - I guess we steamed it out!!!

Hi Cassie!

Yours definately took off running out of the gate. I've heard of many variations of vigor between this same plant from different locations. It's either hit or miss I guess... I presume they have something special that they like that makes them take off wherever they are planted. What do you think?

Jarred - who knows, but this is very interesting as the 1000 fingers that did so well was planted close to the ladyfinger that disappeared underground for 3 months until it finally sprouted a pup and grew up. Similar conditions but vastly different reactions. Guess this is what keeps us focussed!

I think if mine were in partial shade they would have given the dwarf namwah's a run for the $$. Mine are 4ft 3ft p-stem in 4 months (from T/C's). (The Dwarf Namwah in partial shade crapped 2 pups and is taller than my Cali gold.) :^)

Mine should get planted into the ground any day now. Crazy how were were 100F just a few days ago and I'm not even sure if we hit 80F today and it's 62.4F at 9:10pm. The bananas do better when it's warmer than this at night.

I will now receive a seedling :woohoonaner:. I guess I'd better keep it in pots during the winter, which is mostly cloudy and humid, and plant it outside at the beginning of spring.
What do you advise a newbie?
Thanks.

No problemo, Jalon. :)

Your climate seems similar to mine and I think you could go either way at this time. If you purchase a pup that is at least 18" tall you could plant it in the ground if you've got nice warm weather for two more months or more and it will get large enough to withstand the winter weather. If you receive a small pup or tissue culture plant (especially), it would be better off to pot it up and over-winter it where it has protection and plant it after the soil has warmed up next spring (not too early in the spring, as I've learned from my own experiences). Good luck!

I wonder why it has so few fingers compared to my other plants. It gets the same treatment as my other Bananas and has one of the sunniest locations in my yard/

How long has it been in this location? The only thing I can think of is if it encountered some form of stress (maybe even winter?) when the flower bud was being formed. I'm pretty sure my California Gold is smaller because I transplanted it about 10 weeks before it flowered.

Well Tony you showed us that this one was a freak. Maybe the 2 is just the tip of the iceberg and you'll end up with 1002. :^)

This is the original location, has never been moved. Only cut one pup and that was over a year ago.
