Thanks for the report and pics, Archangel. I had a Saba but it didn't come back after I replanted it outside from the winter. Have to get another one! Yours looks great!

Very nice, and very jealous!!
Here in Europe they're hard to get.
I've ordered a few from Florida and they died due to direct sun to soon (wasn't home when they arrived.)
Ordered again and now customs is moaning for a phyto certificate,....and I haven't got one :( (I took a risk, and last time it worked, this time apparently not)
I guess I'll give up for now :(
Good luck on yours anyhow! Enjoy it!
Kind regards,
Remko.

Wow...looks great! Impressive as sabas usually are. :ha: You might have to move it farther from your house, though....looks like leaves are gonna be jabbing/scraping at your siding.

I noticed your Saba in "most recent photos" but hadn't realized how large it is. That's one fast growing banana plant. Good work! If I lived in zone 8, I'd be tempted to try one myself.

I moved one the other day. I'm not kidding when I say I could hardly move it - it must weigh close to 500 lbs. It's rather tall, about 8 to 10 feet. I managed to get a huge portion of the corm with it.
It didn't wilt after I moved it to it's new position and planted it.
I also was able to get 2 pups from it, one of which is in a pot, the other I moved to a place to be in the ground.
I found that leaving the dead trunks (cut to about 4-6 feet) from winter freeze damage seems to have aided in their growth this year (a constant water source) because all the previous summers I had removed all the dead trunks and they grew very very slow. So it's partially an experiment to see what happens. And now I am convinced to leave a majority of the dead trunks for the new season to help grow the pups.
This year they've managed to outgrow the Orinocos.

It is my favorite Musa of all i believe. Huge leaves, beautiful jade green p-stem and grows rapidly,it loves the sandy soils mixed with peat moss. :D

I'm starting to wonder about this 'it grows fast' thing. Think maturity of the corm might have something to do with it? Until this year, they've always been way slower than Orinoco.

Do you keep it moist? dont let it dry...
